Greggs in Maldon

Went in there and no hot food in the hot food counter, I asked the staff when will it be ready she said 11oclock so I came back at 11 then she said that they haven’t put it on yet and to com bk in half hr, and yes you guessed it half hr later still not ready, had my time wasted 3 times. Staff are generally rude speacauly the women in there

Poor shop, seating area and floor dirty, along with the dirty toilet and sinks, need to improve their standards of house keeping

We visit many times ,we don't drink coffee, was so surprised today they had run out of tea bags, would think they would be well stocked up in a place so busy and lots of tea drinkers,couldn't they go and get some from a shop ?

High Street, can’t fault in area aspect. Staff are great. Black water shop is the most unreliable shop in Maldon, always short staffed and the employees that do hack it, take constant abuse from customers because of its unreliability. Greggs in the High Street totally different ball game.100% High St. 2nd rate at Blaxkwater.

Got to say this is our favorite Greggs. The staff are fantastic so kind and helpful and caring. I wish people who served the public were all like these guys. Also your bacon rolls are the best that we have experienced in all the greggs branches that we have been to. And believe me we go to greggs a lot. Keep up the good work all of you x

Just the job- exactly what I'd expect from a Greggs. Very hot sausage, bean and cheese melt exploded and scolded my face though!

Large size Gregg's with a few tables at front and a large area at the back with toilets . At the top of the high street . Parking behind . 2 hours costing under £1.50 but have to pay by card in machine or phone . Friendly service

Called into Gregg's in Maldon today. Quick very friendly+helpful staff. Went to the trouble of carrying my tray to a table as I was trying to manage on one crutch. Hot tea lovely hot sausage roll+a delicious chocolate doughnut. Very welcome on a cold wet day. Everywhere clean, tables wiped.Definitely go there again.

Awful run of the mill bakery. Meant to be cheap and cheerful but bland is what it is wit terrible coffee.

Although not big fans of Greggs, we called in for coffee and cakes and were pleasently surprised. The staff were friendly, the place was clean and it has a deceptively large seating area. There was a good range of cakes and the ones we had tasted fine. Good prices. Better value for money than some of the "posher" tea rooms in Maldon.

Greggs, 34 High Street, Maldon, EssexJust over a year since we were last in Maldon – it was cold, damp with an over-cast sky and that feel of Autumn well underway. Yesterday had been equally as cold, but the sky had been blue and the sun was brilliant - SE Essex looking its best from the road; trim-looking fields with the stubble cultivated in readiness for drilling winter cereals later in the month, pristine colours across the landscape from the high road between the Crouch and the Blackwater and tidy-looking houses/communities everywhere.Driving into Maldon the next morning more than half the houses along the country roads seemed to have scaffolding stacked alongside with extensions, renovation and/or maintenance underway. Then, at the point where you meet the roundabout that takes you around the town bypass – Limebrook Way – there was this enormous new housing development on what, a year back, had been farmland. Check out Maldon’s housing development proposals for 335 new dwellings between South Maldon and Heybridge. The impact from the road is impressive.It was much the same wandering down the High Street in Maldon proper – the pastel colours, the clean lines of the 18th century townscape, the buildings leaning one-into-the-other with traffic negotiating the narrow two-way road. How long before this part of High Street becomes a pedestrian piazza with pavement cafes, fountains, potted plants and play areas?We’d parked in the White Horse Car Park at the rear of the High Street (GB£1.00/first hour and GB£1.30/two hours – and, obviously, opted for the second) with an appointment due opposite the defunct police station - boarded-up and with a ‘Sold’ notice fixed to the door – now that was a surprise. The appointment did not materialize as planned and, walking back, there was Greggs Coffee shop-cum-bakery to one side. It was 11.00 and what’s not to miss with a mid-morning coffee? Inside the shop/café was warm and inviting, with a dozen or more customers spread around the two dining areas – room for >50 at the rear, and half that out front; the serving counter is mid-shop facing you as you enter – you walk around the counter to access the additional space at the rear.We ordered at the counter and scanned the delicious-looking selection of pastries beneath the glass counter: ‘Two cappuccino and we’ll share a croissant please’. Coffees came almost immediately (one with, and the other w/o, dusting chocolate) and the croissant followed us out to our table. We’d been refused a knife but provided with that additional friendly table service with one croissant in two halves on a tray. The waitress had been efficient and prompt.Both coffee and croissant were large and more than sufficient. Croissant was fresh and tasty but the coffee, although hot, was insipid. Sure, there’s no telling with personal choice, but we’ve enjoyed coffee in all manner of places over many years (including the occasional Greggs) and know our preferred choices/flavours/strength. We could not recall the last time we could describe our coffee as ‘insipid’ (usually it’s too strong). This was a considerable disappointment. We’d thought of confirming things with that friendly waitress but didn’t. So, the coffees were a disappointment then.We’d not noticed a traditional ‘expresso/cappuccino’ type coffee-making machine behind the counter. There was‘push-button’ design machine however and, fixed to the wall above the working area, a large sign: ‘Every coffee freshly ground to order – just for you’. And therein the predicament/unknown? The cappuccini had been delivered immediately; normally there’s a short wait – you can see the barista making your coffee, etc. Whatever, we’ll probably never know the source of our coffee – until/when/if we return and life’s too short to speculate. Anyway, the coffee was terrible. We paid GB£4.90 for our coffee/snack (GB£1.90/cappuccino) - turned out to be poor value too.So, great-looking café – modern décor/decorations, warm, friendly, popular, clean toilets, spacious seating, good croissants, etc. that would normally figure ‘Very Good’ by TripAdvisor ratings. But … the quality/pleasure of the coffee is a key feature - and this one had failed to satisfy … and thus that ‘Average’ rating.Peter SteeleChelmsford06 September 2019

This establishment can be found at the top of the High Street & can provide you with some lovely pies, such as chicken & steak bakes & sandwiches etc & some delicious cakes & coffee for a very reasonable price.

You can find Greggs at the top of the High Street, close to the church. You can eat inside or take advantage of the take-away service - which is what I did. The snacks were fresh and the coffee was good - however, the whole ambience lacked sparkle and the staff appeared to be rather rushed off their feet.

Basic but good food with good and quick service.

This cafe can be found at the top of the High Street opposite the church. You can either eat & drink inside the restaurant or take out, they have some great snacks such as steak bakes which are very tasty & they can provide you with a great cup of coffee & all for a very reasonable price.

Blueberry muffin and chocolate chip cookie was ok as was the coffee but a serviette instead of a plate and a twig instead of a spoon. Even the worst transport cafe will have a spoon and a plate. 👎👎👎

Greggs is always good, the value is excellent - two Americanos, a flat white a steak slice and a London cheesecake for less than £10 - and the staff are always helpful.

Was happy to find this Gregg's open early on Sunday morning. Out for walk in the peace and quite that defines Sunday morning. This made a nice break to our expedition to Maldon. The coffee was good and the food hot and tasty. The service was good, the staff attentive and friendly. The restaurant was clean, warm and welcoming. Have been many time before and will definitely go again.

If you like a nice cup of coffee & a tasty snack then this is the place for you. This outlet can be found at the top of the High Street on the left hand side. They have recently revamped the seating area & tables so they can accommodate more patrons & is far nicer now. Very friendly staff & nice atmosphere & very reasonably priced produce.

Popped into Greggs for a coffee with my elderly mother. I was served by a pleasant, friendly lady who offered to carry the small tray to our table. I declined her kind offer because I could manage. She then said if our lattes were too strong, we could come back to the counter for a top up with milk. It's great to see that the snacks are labelled with a calorie count. Well done Greggs.

The Greggs engineers are exceptionally good in this branch. If you've never experienced Greggs then you're in for a treat here. Why do cheese and bacon turnovers taste so good after sitting under a heat lamp for 10 hours?
