Super friendly staff who make you feel like part of the family, serving home cooked, super reasonably priced, mahoosive delicious breakfasts…what’s not to love? Child and dog friendly, it’s everything you could ask for and more!

A friend suggested we had lunch here. Although though the staff were rushed off of their feet, the welcome was warm and genuine, the service was well placed and the food was fantastic. Special care was taken for my complex issue with diary - complete confidence in eating here with allergies/intolerances.

Perfect little village pub, staff are friendly and full of friendly locals aswell. Lots of different events each week and a nice garden.

This is the best place to be in the whole Dengie! Friendliest most welcoming, child and dog friendly pub, serving homemade, fresh, super tasty meals…what’s not to love? Can definitely recommend their hearty roasts, and their lunches (my personal favourite is the prawn mayo jacket potato!). Thank you Red Lion Latchingdon for always going the extra mile, and making our lives so rich! We may be moving in!!!!!

Never sure when to attempt to pop in for a drink as the opening hours are inconsistent. The landlord shuts whenever it’s too quiet. I appreciate you’re running a business, but many people who would have used the pub regularly have now opted to go further afield rather than keep getting kicked out because it’s not busy enough. So long term you’re actually losing money as people can’t be bothered to go there anymore. Such a shame as the drink is good, and the staff are lovely. Just a shame the landlord is only interested in £££.

The food was shocking, Both mine and my partners chicken burger was rock hard and had been done in the microwave. There was also a small hair in my chicken burger. The lady we spoke to seemed lovely but unfortunately the food was just not great at all. Would not go back.

Nice pub with friendly staff and locals, and a gorgeous pub dog. The pub and facilities were very clean and dog friendly. We had smashed lamb shish kebabs in a burger bun, with salad garnish and chips, really tasty.

What a fantastic local pub. The Management team and staff could not be more friendly. Every amenity catered for, from Sky TV, pool table, dart boards, gaming machines and juke box. High quality food and rooms also available. If you are in the area, you MUST visit.

Up and coming pub with loads of various events. Bands, singers, quiz nights, music bingo etc. Publican wants everyone to have a great time. Not just for locals. I'm told quality dining is on the way too. Will update as things progress

We booked a table for 4, short notice, but managed to get a table at a busy time of year. Staff were friendly and made us feel welcome and comfortable. The chef from ‘uncle bucks’ came and introduced himself, shared some menus and discussed briefly what was on the menu. The food was fantastic, really tasty. Flavours were delicate, and moreish. We had burgers, and dirty fries (chicken tikka and the other was lamb kebab). My cod in masala/curried type batter burger, with spicy sauce on the side was a ‘chunky’ size portion. The batter was crispy yet light and dry, and subtle, and the cod was cooked perfectly. We will be returning. Food was good value. Great service. Trainee waiter ‘Freddie’ was attentive but not intrusive. (Well done). Highly recommend.

Was by far the best burger I have had for a long time, I would recommend over and over.

Where can the current menu be found ? **Update 6/12/23** Called in for lunch yesterday around 13.30 had trouble finding a parking space, luckily a couple who were shopping across the road, not from the Red Lion went back to their car and vacated the space for us to pull into. That was one hurdle over, walked into the pub expecting it to be packed solid due to the volume of vehicles in the car park only to find a handful of locals at the bar. Tables and chairs were plentiful, but no sign of any food about, being eaten or otherwise, no sign of cutlery, condiments or anything else that implied food was for sale. Previous reveuwee’s state nice food and give high scores , fail to understand this. To all intense and purposes this was a pub and nothing else even though there was a sandwich board at the roadside,needless to say we left and had a nice all day English Breakfast at The Cabin B o C. So really you did us a favour.

The Red Lion never disappoints! Great atmosphere, friendly staff, great selection of drinks, great outside area and now amazing food too! The pool and darts equipment are all top notch too which helps if you’re terrible like me! They host awesome events like quiz nights, karaoke bingo and live bands as well. All in all a fantastic place to visit.

Finally freshly made delicious food in Latchingdon!! And sorry to anyone that offends, but as a vegetarian it was so great to have veggie and vegan options, that actually had flavour and felt part of the menu (not just an after thought). This coupled with the most friendly and welcoming atmosphere, where everyone is made to feel part of the family! All served with a fresh cold pint, or a glass of nice wine, literally the best combination in the world! Thanks to Uncle Bucks and the team at the Red Lion for the perfect Friday night, we can’t wait to be back already!!👌🏼 🍔 🤤

Only Larga and Guinness sold here, very disappointing. No food was available on my visit due to kitchen refurbishment, so can't comment. I only stayed for 1 beer as I'm a real ale drinker.

Had the pleasure of staying here for one night in the Yellow Room. Clean and Tidy.Great amenities very welcoming in the bar very friendly staff. Found them on AirBnB would recommend and definitely stay again.

The perfect combination of a clean, well presented pub, but with dartboards, pool, TV and a friendly pub dog. At the moment the kitchens are being renovated so there is no food, but I will be back to test that as soon as the work is completed.

Brilliant night at music bingo

Honestly I have never had a more revolting beer and Ian the landlord, who is unprofessional and rude, has worked hard to create an uncomfortable vibe in a pub that used to be great.

The drinks taste like the lines don't get cleaned and Ian the landlord is unorganised, rude and is more than happy lying to the clientele and messing them about if he thinks he can get away with it. Basically the kind of pub you won't feel safe in unless you yourself are someone that makes people feel uncomfortable.

Atrocious pub that's been run into the ground by new ownership. Dirty, bad beer and even worse management. Very few people go here now and with good reason.

Beer tastes disgusting and terrible management, do yourself a favour and drink beer out of a toilet to replicate your experience here for a fraction of the price

Save yourself a few quid, get a straw and drink a puddle in a squat house. The experience is about the same and the company will be better.

Had great sausage and mash. Very friendly Mine Host, who even lit the real fire for us. Recommend the Pink Gin.

I really wanted to like this place because the waitress was so nice but we were dumped in an empty room. Limited menu and nothing for those on a diet. We waited AGES for the food and whilst the scampi and burgers were nice, the lasagne was rock hard. Very underwhelming 15th birthday lunch.

Food delivered wasn't what I ordered and also cold the burgers half cooked and done in a microwave . I was physically sick. Then I phoned them and they were too busy to sort it out. Not happy I had to fork out again to get food somewhere else. I at present still have not got my money back.

I placed an order through the new just eat delivery service tonight. The order was confirmed & we were given an approximate delivery time. My partner and I were really looking forward to our burgers, only to receive an email 5 minutes before the delivery was due that the order had been cancelled as they weren't able to deliver within the stated time. I would have prefered a phone call asking if it was ok to deliver later rather than just cancelling the order. I tried calling to speak to the pub directly but the line was permanently busy. We were left with no option but to order from elsewhere

We stopped at this pub for a quick drink and ended up ordering Sunday lunch. The roast beef was excellent, served with a huge homemade Yorkshire pudding and a large selection of freshly cooked veg. Everything on the plate was homemade and freshly cooked. Couldn’t fault it. We were served by a lovely lady called Laura who made us feel very welcome(nothing was to much trouble). Wish we lived nearer so we could sample the takeaway menu.

Visited with a friend and will return as you can see the new owners are trying to revamp the old place and we want to support local one man bands. The young lady that showed us to her table was polite but could try and engage in conversation bless her she looked petrified of taking our orders and was keen to give us our bill. The atmosphere from the bar was very welcoming and friendly and the food and drinks came at a good time. Our baguettes were tasty but the prawn sauce could have been thicker as it was quite runny and could have had some crisps or garnish on the plate. Generally worth a visit and lovely views to the rear of the pub. Well done to the new owners.

we had a table of 9 booked for 7 on a saturday and were swiftly seated to our table. the waitress was clearly new but done a good job of dealing with 9 guests. the food came out and was of a good standard with big portions for everyone. if you want some classic pub grub this will certainly hit the spot. The scampi came out with around 12 pieces which i thought was very good.

Superb liver & bacon. Couldn't fit in syrup sponge so coming back for coffee & pudding. Nice beer. Wibblers.

Thankfully we only booked a one night stay here. The room was basic, with a double and single bed so crowded. Shower room was cold, no way of heating, the shower ran hot for a short while then cold, warm and cold again, so went to bed unshowered. If I had showered the towels would have provided excellent exfoliation .The lighting in here was so bad it would have been difficult to shave. The shower room door needs some WD40. The cupboard for clothes is behind a mirror so awkward to use.. The only positives were a tv, fast internet and a plentiful supply of toilet rolls. Way over priced for what is provided. I know the people have only been here a short while , hopefully they will work on improving the accommodation. The website photos are not like the reality.

Great pub very friendly atmosphere- nice tradition touch putting seafood and cheese’s out on the bar - the whole team very friendly and polite - we each had a small portion of Lasagna with halloumi fries - very very nice indeed - along with a nice fresh side salad. Coming back from Devon looking for something to eat popped in for a roast very warm welcome nothing to much trouble had a large chicken and large beef roast came with a massive homemade Yorkshire pud beef cooked well nice and tender chicken list and succulent veg cooked to perfection would definitely come back for a Sunday roast

This lovely little pub does what it says on the tin. Really friendly welcome, comfortable and clean rooms and super attentive owners. Dave and his wife were delightful hosts. We stayed there as we were attending a wedding at the Three Rivers and was convenient for the location. Great little find, very reasonably priced and a breakfast cooked to order. Highly recommended for value and friendliness. Thank you will definitely recommend. Also Doris is a delight!!

Always a worry when everywhere else is packed and this place was empty. Food very mediocre.

We had the pleasure of popping in for a drink at this dog-friendly establishment yesterday. A warm welcome awaited us and we subsequently decided to sample the food menu. The portion sizes were were very generous and everything was cooked to perfection. The pub has come on leaps and bounds since the new owners have taken it on and is well worth a visit, but don’t take my word for it, give it a try for yourself!
