Unhelpful staff. They were rude and disrespectful. Food is uninspiring and of the cheapest quality. Good variety on the menu but I would avoid.

My wife and I visited this business on Sunday for a drink. It was a wonderfully warm day. We experienced a very friendly and helpful service. At the time, I was accidentally overcharged. Had I asked for a receipt, I would have immediately detected it. Following our visit, I became aware of the error. I rang the premises and spoke to the owner, Babs. She apologised for the mistake, and told me that if I were to pop by, she or a member would reimburse me. Today. I returned with my wife. Babs was in attendance and immediately remembered our telephone conversation, and without my having to provide further evidence, offered to refund me the overcharge. Instead, we were given drinks of a higher value without having to pay the extra. We felt very welcome there. Babs is a very friendly and understanding person. We will certainly return. Whilst there, my wife enjoyed her squid in chili sauce

Hoped for a jolly lunch. In stead a sour atmosphere of overworked staff whinging about not having a day off. The views of the quay were pretty through the windows, the food was fine. The white wine was room temperature. It was joyless.

Great position lovely view of the river. Really good menu lots of fish and also steak. Good variety of gluten free options. The crab salad with chunky chips was a great choice. The young lady serving everyone outside today was doing a great job on a very hot day and was so helpful.

We planned a day at maldon my wife myself and our dog after a walk along the prom we thought we would see if we could get a table as we have read about this restaurant we got a table and on top of that it’s dog friendly so dogs can go in with you we had drinks straight away and myself and my wife each fancied the sharing ploughman’s and sharing seafood platter we asked if we can have both dishes but for one each no problem I asked no whitebait and the waitress asked if my wife wanted ham the dishes turned up very full although my wife thought the ham was going to be extra she was a bit upset there was no cheese and I still had whitebait my wife had the white bait I had the ham the meal was to our satisfaction we will pop in again when we are next in maldon

They have a good position so maybe feel they don't need to try which is a shame. I wouldn't recommend or return. .........

We had no booking, but made exceedingly welcome, shown straight to table. Order taken promptly and meals served without undue delay. Good choice or real ales and many fish options on menu (also non fish). We had crab salad + portion chunky chips….. and seared tuna steak….both 5*. This was only quick ad-hoc visit, but need to return to work through starters and more mains. Standard of food was way beyond ‘pub grub’.

Called in today for drinks and lunch when meeting up with family. Staff friendly and helpful, good selection of drinks on offer, only two real ales on offer but one was very good so no problems here. Most of us had fish and chips, very nice fish chips okay but nothing special, nicely presented with plenty of condiments didn’t have to ask for anything as it was all there. Venue was nice and clean nothing not to like, we were even allowed to bring our small dogs in as they are dog friendly and even have a dog food menu.

Fabulous variety of seafood, served beautifully by staff that could explain the food and made you feel you were the only customer they were serving.

We went to Fish on the Quay for a family meal on Xmas eve at 4.30pm. There were five adults and a baby. We had delicious food and fabulous service. I’d love to come back in the summer to see over the Hythe on a sunny day.

Monday last minute decision to visit for lunch with three friends and was pleasantly impressed. The lovely bar staff informed us that it was Thai food menu on Monday’s so different to what we had in mind so thought why not. The menu was simple but interesting and did not disappoint, very nicely presented and perfect portions and very good value. All of us thoroughly enjoyed the food and would definitely go again. Perfect.

It is not often that you celebrate your Mammy's 86th birthday, so you better get it right, especially when all three sisters, other half's, and giant grandsons are attending. From Verity's assistance in juggling a table for 11, to the stunning seafood and excellent wine selection, we had a ball. A stressful day for the staff with some grumpy guests holding the management responsible for the local traffic chaos, but my clan will be back for sure.

Firstly would like to say staff member Wendy was lovely and friendly manager Babs and bar staff friendly and helpful. So first we had to walk through the grubby staff room and kitchen to get to our room but thought OK it's an old building, opened our room door and was not impressed on first impressions again OK its an old building, then started looking around, the room was filthy, tea stains on furniture, kettle was so filthy with scale we wouldn't use it, stains up the walls, the shower and tiles was grubby hair in plug hole, the waste on sink was so bad it made me heave. Bed time and I then realised no pillow protectors on pillows and pillows where not very clean so I couldn't sleep knowing other people had slept on these pillows, dribbling, and bad skin etc God knows what but I couldn't use them, then husband used the toilet and the noise was unbelievable shook whole room apparently it was the macerator, next morning hubby showers the shower tray fills up with water and started over flowing then the toilet filled up with water aswell, the staff member said she's not dealing with it its not her job so I couldn't shower and we had to use toilets downstairs in the bar. The lino was all ripped and luckily I took slippers but my husband didn't and his feet was black from the dirty floor. Also I dropped an expensive earring and it went under the bed so hubby had to move bed to retrieve it he basically said to me don't look under there it was so bad he felt sick, the under bed must never ever been cleaned. Honestly it was a joke, so OK we thought let's just have our breakfast and checkout, well if your happy to eat breakfast while listening to the kitchen staff swearing, f__k this and F__k that I could not believe what I was hearing thankfully no kids in the restaurant. So now the breakfast the mushrooms smelt like they was on the turn so didn't eat, scrambled egg had all black bits in it like the burnt bits of the bottom of the pan and bacon smelt funny aswell. We planned on having lunch here and making a day off it but instead packed up and left straight away, I would initially have asked for up grade to our room but apparently our room was there best room Never would stay here again infact it ruined our 1 precious night away. We was not shown any emergency fire exits and to be honest if there was an emergency tackling all the boxes of food and bags on the floor through the staff area and kitchen we would have been lucky to get out without injury. I don't know how this has been passed as a safe b&b or even have its health and safety certificates Please read reviews first I wish I had.

Went here with husband and two grandchildren for lunch. Husband asked for crab sandwich and was told had ran out but more expensive crab salad was available. Ordered salad and was amazed to find served with bread! Seems very odd that there was no bread for a sandwich but available for salad. Although the salad was good it left a feeling there was some up pricing had taken place and left us feeling we had been mislead. Childrens meal was good.

Can’t find a better service and of course the best fish and chips visited with family of four from London. It was the highlight of the day to have lunch at this pub. With beautiful views and atmosphere we highly recommend the service of all the staff and the big portions of food.

Hi All. After a very disappointing visit some time ago the owner, Babs, invited my wife and i back for a free lunch as compensation. This review is a true and correct assessment of that event. On arrival the place was very busy and chaotic with uncleared tables. Went to the bar and purchased pint and a half on beer £7.10p. Must say excellent work in the cellar. Sat down and introduced ourselves to Babs. Good to her word we were offered a free seafood platter £31 to share and a bottle of Chablis with a £10 discount served in an ice bucket and chilled glasses. Happy so far. Ordered another pint and half whilst waiting for our food £7.30p ???. The dish arrived consisting of mackerel, smoked salmon, shrimp, prawns, cockles, dressed crab and sourdough bread with a dip. More than enough for two and overall quite tasty except for the crab, filled out with what can only be described as tasteless goo (could do better). The prices charged were too high for the level of service but Babs did her best with a lack of well trained staff and a very busy pub. It would be good to see the menu include fresh fish dishes (plaice, sole, halibut Etc) I personally would pay a higher price for a more fresher choice We thank you Babs for your kind attention. We will return but in the winter when the place is less busy.

Went to this pub today had a crab sandwich. They mix the crab with something which I didn’t like and I couldn’t eat. I happened to mention this to the manager. Babs the manager offered me another sandwich whatever I wanted and give us a free drink. Unbelievable the service was 2nd to none, I would recommend this place, what a good service. What a very attentive manager unbelievable in this day and age. She didn’t give it a second thought before offering amazing will definitely be in there again.

A lovely lunch with our grandson. A pop up Thai kitchen on Monday and Tuesday lunchtime and kids eat free if adults have a main. Good choice on the children’s menu, beef burger with cheese and chips went down well. Delicious stir fried sweet and sour chicken. If you are in Maldon it’s certainly worth a visit.

Went here on Friday for a wake and they had closed the pub for this occasion ... The staff were just lovely and friendly and couldn't do enough for you. The food was absolutely gorgeous and well presented. The occasion was a sad affair as we had lost someone who meant the world to us but honestly I couldn't think of a nicer place and setting to end the day. Truly amazing!!

We recently celebrated our wedding at The Bull, Troston and what an unforgettable experience it was! From the moment we arrived, we were met with impeccable service that made us feel truly special. The evening meal was beyond amazing—every dish was cooked to perfection, bursting with flavour, and beautifully presented. The attention to detail and the warmth of the staff made the dining experience even more delightful. Our stay at the Pear Tree Inn was equally impressive. The rooms were not only beautifully decorated but also provided the perfect blend of comfort and charm. It was the ideal setting to relax and enjoy the weekend, and equally fabulous breakfasts. Overall, our time at The Bull and the Pear Tree Inn was nothing short of fabulous. It was a weekend full of wonderful memories that we will cherish forever. We can’t thank the team enough for making our special day so perfect. Highly recommend to anyone looking for exceptional food, outstanding service, and a cozy, elegant stay.
