Crystal Cafe in Maldon

Outstanding liver and bacon was cooked to perfection daughter hoovered up all the mac and cheese and she is fussy so well done cheap but excellent food totally recommended

This is the best cafe in Maldon for English food. I and a few friends have been going there for lunch every week, the meals are excellent for the price, the place is clean and bright and the manager is helpful and friendly.

Absolutely disgusting environment! Filthy floors and tables. Food is below average. Kitchen is mucky. And the manager is crazy! Saw him being horrible and shouting at a man outside this afternoon! Not a friendly environment and will not be returning.

Stopped off after a stroll down to the river for cup of tea and a snack. Ordered a salmon roll but they had run out of rolls so had a sandwich which was OK. Cheese French stick was OK but in reality a bit pricey for an average cafe.

My partner & I visited here today for the 1st time (Sunday, 9th May, 2021), we ordered two breakfast, I also had a hot Chocolate & my partner had a coffee, EVERYTHING was cooked PERFECTLY. I would have found a problem if there were one but everything was just how we like it. The female cook did a great job & was friendly, the owner was very friendly too, we WILL be returning, if we had more time I would have returned for the Cherry pie with custard, nice area & great cafe so I'm looking forward to our return & my Cherry pie. 10/10.

Archetypal cafe with a huge menu. Everything cooked to order and tasty. Friendly staff. Worth a visit even though it looks a bit unprepossessing.

Located in pretty High Street, this cafe provides good clean friendly service. Having found it difficult to park, we were in desperate need of a cuppa. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly, and we were able to have a chat with them before leaving. There is a varied menu and orders are taken promptly. Thankyou Crystal Cafe.

Great lunch today - can't believe the low prices across the board. Drinks so cheap - wine by the glass £1.80 to around £2.40 Staff and Chef very friendly.

Cheap and nice food but disgusted with the way the manager was treating the waitress who was doing more than everyone there. She was doing a brilliant job and kept being spoken to rudely and shouted at, to the point where I was so upset for her and couldn’t keep my eyes off it.

Me my wife and son ordered 3 burgers n chips and cokes we got 3 cans of cokes people were complaining of the wait that we wasn't warned of by staff after having how order confirmed 4 times the last ifwe want cheese after 40min then worked out they had not even started how order we paid for the cokes and left still hungry the food may be good but be extremely patient

Ordered a breakfast suited to what i wanted. Smaller than the set breakfast's on the menu. Charged £1.50 more. Toast had mould on it. Milk was off in the tea. The owner seemed more concerned with sitting on he's sofa and what was going on outside than the customers. Avoid.Bad atmosphere!

Me, my partner and little boy have been here a number of times, best breakfast for a very good price! Never once had a problem, service has always been excellent! Would (and have!) recommend to anyone

We used to come here regularly on the weekends as it’s only local but we will never return again. I was served toast with blood on as the boy in the kitchen had cut his finger. As soon as I noticed I made sure to tell the manager. Because of this I then decided I didn’t want the breakfast anymore which I think anyone would do the same. But with that I was told ‘fine then’ by the manager and he took our plates away with no apology what so ever. Extremely disappointed and will not return again.

Popped in yesterday morning for breakfast,absolutely delicious sausage bacon egg chips and black pudding full up tummy’s on leaving Very friendly service great value outstanding

Working in the area one day, decided to try their food. Very nice. Pretty fast service and very helpful. Nothing seems too much trouble either. Would definitely go there again, and would highly recommend it.

Excellent food at great value with friendly staff on Sunday- we will be back! All day breakfast and veggie lasagne were particularly good and we were disappointed that we were too full to test the traditional pudding menu. Ladies having Sunday roast on another table were treated like friends not customers.

Im a regular in the cafe. The owner Costa is a true gentleman and the staff are considerate to your every need. I refuse to go elsewhere as its so good here regards Julianna

I went to the till to place my order but was told the order would be taken at the table. We were kept waiting for a few more minutes before our order was taken.

Maldon car show weekend so every eatery was going to be busy...we decided on Crystal due to views.....it was chaotic to say the least and it wasn't even busy...wrong food orders galour, food orders going missing....we eventually got our breakfast which was not what we ordered.....we just got on with knowing it was going to be along wait for what we had ordered....turns out we had other two blokes breakfasts....the owner actually called us out in front of everyone...how the bejingers were we to know amongst the chaos...the shouting from the kitchen because of the chaos was awful...people were asking for refunds as their for either turn up or was so long coming.....and then there is the loos.....poo all around the loo...this was first thing so no excuse...awful place and food was over cooked.....avoid.....

I went to this cafe on the weekend and had a great breakfast - would highly recommend and will definitely be going back soon!

Visited this cafe at lunchtime today, admittedly it was a busy day but , as I saw they took cards, thought we'd pop in for a coffee and sandwich. Sat in the outside area and within 10 minutes our order was taken and soon after the coffees turned up. After half hour we were beginning to wonder what had happened to our order when shortly after the same lady came back and re-took our order as said it seems it had been lost. Our order finally arrived after 40 minutes of arriving at the cafe, my husbands sandwich was good but my prawn roll was not, the roll had obviously been defrosted and was very hard as had been over defrosted - I ended up putting the prawns on one piece of roll and throwing the other half away but I wouldn't have complained as generally I don't as accept people have off days. When it came to paying the bill, I was behind a lady at the counter also paying and the same lady had no idea what she was charging her for as had a handful of orders but couldn't find this particular order for this customer standing in front of me so she had to go through all that she had just had. When it came to me paying for our food, again this lady couldn't find my order (which she had taken twice), so I had to tell her what I had. When I said I was paying by DEBIT card, she said she was going to have to charge me £1 for using a card. My bill was about £8. I asked if she was sure she charged for debit cards as had never heard of charging for a debit card and there was nothing on the window saying they charge for cards, only that cards are accepted on a sign in the window. I am fully aware that there is sometimes a fee for using a credit card in some places but have never heard of charging for a debit card. A sign by the till was misleading as seemed to indicate there was a minimum spend of £1 when using a card. The lady said she'd been told to charge for cards so took my card and swiped it even though I'd asked her to check it applied to debit cards. To be charged £1 for using my debit card after having terrible service, not brilliant food and now the mess up with the bill did not please me at all. It is more the principle of the matter and I know if it was my cafe I would have apologised and certainly wouldn't have then charged the customer £1 when it is down to them what they charge on top and their reason was that it was a busy day - the customer shouldn't have to suffer for that. I'm sorry but there was an event on at the prom so it wasn't that it was unexpected so should have employed more than one person to serve. If this was my cafe and I'd kept the customer waiting for 40 mins to get their food, I would have offered a complimentary coffee for the inconvenience whilst waiting for our order that had got lost or not charged £1 for a debit card as I don't think they get charged for debit cards. - I will not be visiting this cafe again.

I've been a few times whilst working in Maldon and good food for breakfast,lunch and afternoon meals.

5 star cafe food is delicious would defiantly recommend ! Good value and portions are big! Service is outstanding!! Must try!!

My friend and I go to breakfast every Tuesday and this by far the bast cafe we have found both for quality and quantity.

Pop in this cafe every now and then and always get a decent all-day breakfast. Took the family and we all had varying versions of an all-day breakfast and as always it was tasty and reasonably priced. Will be going back soon

If you are looking for a bacon and eggs type of cafe then eat here. Its clean cheap and great value for money

If you can get past the fat fryer smell as you enter the premises, then this is a brilliant place to eat. Reasonable prices, huge menu choice and pleasant staff. The all day breakfast was piping hot and a decent size for the price - I chose mushrooms, bubble and squeak, tomatoes, bacon and egg, all served with 2 rounds of toast. Also the latte was lovely, resulting in me having a second cup!! Don't go on the outside appearance, as the food and service exceeds your initial expectations. Highly recommended and far better value than lunch in your 'chain' cafes and coffee shops!
