Pretty average food at Quality Restaurant Prices. Silly beer prices, £6.00 for a pint of average keg fizz ? The kids did their best to serve, bless 'em (lad behind bar stated that he couldn't 'do' wine, as they had run out of wine glasses !!). Two young ladies waiting on table were good, but really had no idea about, perhaps, offering desert after main course, or asking if 'everything is ok?' or offering a bill ? Not really surprising, as no evidence of any management. Nothing to stop us from just walking out after eating, except our honesty. Dingy, run-down feeling generally. Not recommended.

Having visited this cafe a few times over the past year or so, and been happy with the food and service, I found today's visit very disappointing. Even allowing for the fact that the place was busy, there was no welcome, tables were not being cleared quickly and after around ten minutes waiting for service and seeing a couple who had just arrived being attended to, I was left with the distinct impression that my custom was not welcome. In the end, I walked out and found an alternative artesan bread shop on the market place which did a delicious, freshly-made sandwich and cafe latte at a reasonable price. I think today's wasted effort at Birds in Ashbourne will be my last.

Bright and cheerful décor and furnishing. Warm welcome and good service. Interesting short menu. Excellent coffee. Good food at sensible prices. Well worth a visit.

Visited today for coffee and lunch with my husband and dog. We were shown to a table in the side room which is dog friendly and it was fine, if compact. We had a toasted sandwich and a normal sandwich. The bread was fresh, plenty of cheese filling but would have liked more ham too. Nice side salad to accompany the plates. However no salt or pepper on any of the tables and no-one asked if we wanted anything or how our meals were. Coffees were fine. What I don't understand is why a family of 4 without a dog were showed into the same area rather than the other side of the cafe, so it did get very claustrophobic.

We were looking forward to finishing our trip to Derbyshire with a lovely breakfast at Chatsworth kitchen. We normally go to the farm shop cafe. We were so disappointed the cafe was cold staff were welcoming to be fair The eggs Benedict didn’t seem warm . Our server told us that it is served with cold sauce and that’s why . It’s one of my favourites and I’ve never had it served with a cold sauce so beware. Very little ham and didn’t seem very fresh. Sadly trading on the Chatsworth name and not the quality we expect for the price . Would return to farm shop cafe in future just up the road .

Waited 25 minutes for two light breakfasts. They arrived on plates swimming with grease, the mushrooms were cold and much of the rest luke warm at best. The staff seemed to loiter about with no sense of urgency and some staff training would'nt come amiss. The whole set up for ordering and serving hot food badly needs reviewing. A very poor Chatsworth experience not to be repeated.

Such a lovely hotel & pub. We stayed for 2 nights whilst exploring the Peak District. The hotel is walking distance to the grounds of chatsworth and a short drive to Bakewell. We were warmly greeted by Rachel, who let us know we had a complimentary upgrade to our room. We were travelling with our dog, who also got a little treat packet, that she was very happy with! Room was beautiful, with plenty of space and a secure courtyard that made it so much easier with the dog. Breakfast had a good choice of hot & cold options, and our evening meal with lovely. (We recommend the pie!). We would definitely stay again!
