Such a lovely hotel & pub. We stayed for 2 nights whilst exploring the Peak District. The hotel is walking distance to the grounds of chatsworth and a short drive to Bakewell. We were warmly greeted by Rachel, who let us know we had a complimentary upgrade to our room. We were travelling with our dog, who also got a little treat packet, that she was very happy with! Room was beautiful, with plenty of space and a secure courtyard that made it so much easier with the dog. Breakfast had a good choice of hot & cold options, and our evening meal with lovely. (We recommend the pie!). We would definitely stay again!

We enjoyed a fantastic dinner with brilliant service from Emily. The restaurant is set out beautifully and the food reflects the setting. We also stayed overnight, and were absolutely thrilled to find such a gorgeous place to stay at the last minute. Will definitely return and recommend to everyone coming this way. Complete gem.

A great place to eat with friends. We were all pleased with our different dinner choices, and I was delighted with the gluten free meal. There's a limited choice of gf, but the slow cooked lamb shepherd's pie is simply delicious. Service is knowledgeable and helpful. Only point to beware of, and it's a strange one, you must write your car registration number on the clipboard as you arrive and also remember to sign out!

Disappointed to be told at 7.15pm that we couldn’t order food even after they had taken our money for drinks and given us menus. Not hospitality at its finest- shame as the bar staff are great but probably like many places, ruled by the kitchen Prima Donna 🤣. Thankfully lots of alternatives in Baslow.

We stayed for a few days to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Fantastic stay in a quiet room with private terrace. Great food choices at breakfast and for evening meals. Staff were all very welcoming and helpful, especially Rachel and Lisa. It's the first time that we've eaten of an evening where we're staying, every evening. The inn is dog friendly and you can even borrow wellies and umbrellas if necessary, for you not the dog ;) Only minor downside was WiFi. You have to access via the Cloud.

Very disappointing. A sign at the entrance asked you to wait to be seated if you had booked a table, so we stood there…and stood there…. The service was very slow and the food poor. The restaurant was NOT busy and neither was the pub. Suggest the chefs taste their food.

We had the pleasure of a lovely late lunch here yesterday. The staff were so friendly and service was impeccable. We both had fish and chips, really enjoyable, and trust me my husband loves his fish and chips, so they definitely passed the tasty test. Would definitely recommend, especially sat outside in the lovely beer garden, we were blessed with the weather but inside looked lovely too. Thankyou for a lovely time Xx

Called in for lunch . When we finally found our way in to the bar ,no-one greeted us or showed us to a table . We had to ask at the bar for menus and the girl behind the just pointed to where they were & left us to it. We found a table and then ordered (& paid in advance.)Presumably so if we had any complaints they had already had our money. We waited a very long time for a ploughman’s lunch & a club sandwich. The ploughman’s was not as described on menu . No apple or beetroot ! The farmhouse bread was just one small slice of toast. It was served on a very old dirty wooden chopping board ! I would have preferred a nice clean plate ! Nobody came over to ask if everything ok ? When we had finished eating , no-one came to clear our table or ask if we wanted anything else ( which we certainly didn’t anyway) Walked out , never to return again.

Went for lunch with a friend staff were pleasant but the food was very poor, we waited a very long time before it arrived and when it did it looked like it had been under a warmer for quite a while, soggy lukewarm chips and fish that had obviously been cooked several hours ago. Will not be returning, much better places in and around Baslow for food.

Drove over for a Fathers Day lunch. We’ve been several times before and had a gorgeous meal. It’s changed hands and is now brewery owned. Prices high, food poor and cheaply prepared, portion size poor. Yorkshire pudds were frozen ones, ‘roasted carrots’ were just sliced carrots. Staff lovely and very apologetic. I’m afraid we won’t be going again.

Lovely pub, nice traditional decor with a modern twist. Good, friendly service. We were a group of friends meeting for a celebratory lunch. The menu was limited but varied. Coconut prawn curry looked and tasted delicious. Pie and mash, fish and chips and sausage and mash also got very good revues from our table. Unfortunately I ordered the Korean style chicken burger as the description made it sound like a nice fusion of flavours. How wrong I was. Firstly it was the most beige meal I've ever been served. When I asked about the Asian style slaw, having expected a pot on the side, I was told it was on the bun. All I could see were five slivers of onion or cabbage, hard to identify as no taste whatsoever. The chicken was supposed to be sesame coated but again completely tasteless and the brioche bun was so dry. The burger sauce on the side added some moisture but again no taste. It was honestly the blandest burger I've ever had and in no way justified the price. Had I been on my own I would have complained, but I didn't want to spoil the atmosphere. My friends would probably have given this revue a 4. But this dish definitely needs a rethink or removing.

We had booked this hotel for an overnight as we had a cookery class booked with Coghlans cookery school at the nearby Peak Village, shamefully this business(nothing to do with the Peak Village) has ceased trading without informing its customers personally.. Luckily I'd found through another source what had happened & we decided to still go ahead with with our stay at the Devonshire & take the Bus into Bakewell for early evening drinks instead. We're so glad we went ahead with our booking. The pub has a really good friendly atmosphere. Lisa(Manager) is a very warm & friendly person which rubs off to her whole team in ALL of this establishments areas. We ate here before moving onto Bakewell, choosing 2 serving platters for the four of us. All fresh, tasty & of good portion size. Our room(2) was adequate for an overnight stay, but perhaps a little small if staying longer. We did have an Excellent Nights Sleep. Breakfast was very good, cooked to order, tasty & plentiful. We would definitely recommend the Devonshire for both food & a stop over.

Upon arrival thought what a lovely place - sat outside with the dog - ordered drinks at the bar when asked for the beer to be topped up as don't like a thick head on it, we was told "I'd get the sack if I do that" by the barmaid! Snacks 4 for £24 what an absolute rip off !! Wouldn't mind if they were of decent portion I've never seen anything so small. Wouldn't recommend sadly.

We always book with Devonshire Arms in Baslow when visiting Peak District. We booked and our table was ready for us in seconds, despite arriving 45 earlier. Food, mains and desserts, was delicious. I had a vegetarian roast dinner with very tasty butternut Wellington. Children enjoyed sausages with mash. We were served by Ruby, who was very friendly and helpful. We weren’t rushed and spent nearly two hours at the place. Devonshire Arms is quite informal, and the atmosphere is always great. We will be back again!

Lovely setting but food was not great at all for prices. The fish and chips was a real let down; it was all batter and very little fish. So much so that we could same see issue on other plates when leaving restaurants i.e. with the excess batter scraped off/left on side. It really wasn't good at all, even the batter wasnt very nice. I give this 2 out of 10 and would avoid! Veggie squash Wellington decent but veg overcooked. 4 for £24 starters were tasty but really, really small portions. Staff were friendly,;cask ale very nice.

This has always been our favourite place to stay in the peak villages. The staff are absolutely wonderful; very welcoming and can’t do enough to help. The restaurant also has always been good. Up until now. This time we had taken some friends with us as we’ve always said how good it was. However, the restaurant was really disappointing. The prices have increased massively and yet the portion sizes have become stingy. I ordered Frickles as a starter which turned out to be 1 gherkin chopped into 4 slices with some mayo on the side…. For £7.50. The food was average at best for the whole weekend. A real shame as it’s always been the highlight before.

We visit Derbyshire every year and the Devonshire Arms is our go-to place for a Sunday roast. Unfortunately, this year was extremely disappointing. We had the 4 for £24 bar snacks/ starters which were very tasty but the portions were ridiculously small for the price. We were a party of 4 and we all ordered the roast dinner, chicken and beef, which was diabolical. It was clear that our meals had been ready for some time as all of the potatoes and vegetables were cold. They were also unseasoned and the meal as a whole had very little flavour. Not to mention the parsnips were completely raw and we were all unable to cut into them. I am genuinely shocked that they made it to the plate. The side of red cabbage and cauliflower cheese was nice but the portions were laughable for the price, even if it was for just one person (see pictures attached!) Overall it was hugely disappointing and we won’t be returning. The only redeeming factor is the staff who were very friendly and helpful. After complaining, we were brought new vegetables but they were clearly blasted in the microwave as they were too hot, and still, flavourless. We got 25% taken off but it’s not about the money, we were all just left disappointed and hungry.

Small plates to share as a starter were tasty but the portions were not enough for the 4 of us to have one bit each £24 for 4 - that was very disappointing. The pie was delicious but a side of gravy (on 3 plates) had been near no heat at all, chips were average. The mushy peas came in a very small pot commonly used for a side of dip and were luke warm. All in all what we had was nice quality but very poor value for money because the portions were so small. The staff were welcoming and friendly and rectified our complaints promptly but they should not have to apologise for the measly portions. Probably won’t give it another go.

This is a nice pub and the staff are great, sadly the food lets it down, we ordered a couple of starters one of which (chicken strips) although tasty was minuscule (three very small strips) for £8, I ordered trout for the main which was about a quarter of a fish with three prawns, four small roast potatoes and three pieces of sad looking tender stem broccoli, it wasn’t the warmest when it arrived either and the presentation was poor. The staff carry the place but the food and tiny portions are a real let down.

This was our first visit to the Devonshire Arms after a walk in the local area. We were left feeling disappointed by the portion sizes and quality of the food for the price we paid. At £17 for fish and chips you expect a reasonable sized meal of good quality food, not a handful of chips and a small piece of greasy fish served with about a tablespoon each of mushy peas and tartare sauce and a tiny wedge of lemon. We were left still feeling hungry and not tempted to try anything from the pudding menu as we didn't think that it would be worth it.

Very disappointing lunch here today with family. Left hungry. The portion sizes are just far too small. The ‘sandwich and soup’ for £11 is laughably small - one small piece of toast and a thimble of soup. For the burger and chips, they scrunch up the paper into the bowl to give you a half portion of chips. Nothing wrong with the service despite the ~50min to 1 hour wait for food, and the little food was nice enough tasting. Just expect to be massively underwhelmed by the portion size. By comparison, paid the same prices for an incredible meal in a little pub in Bretton yesterday - shows what’s possible.

For me, there are just a handful of eateries in Derbyshire that I feel confident going back to again and again. After experiencing a pretty sorry Sunday lunch at another Devonshire in the area the week previously we decided to do Sunday lunch again at this Devonshire as it always delivers. Beautiful, medium rare roast beef, light crispy yorkshire pudding, lots of lovely, meaty gravy - say no more. You get everything on the plate like a Sunday roast should be, not meat delivered first, then vegetables after in a separate bowl - I hate that! But I can't stop there. I have to mention the other 2 courses. Starter was buffalo mozzarella with marinated tomatoes, pesto oil and balsamic. An absolutely delicious summer dish. For dessert, not so summery but equally delicious, sticky toffee pudding. I've eaten sticky toffee pudding at The Sharrowbay Hotel where it's supposed to have been invented - I can tell you now, this was better.Staff are always friendly, helpful and polite. Whoever took over this place knows about food and what has to be done to provide the public with a lovely dining experience without silly prices. Long may it continue.

The decors lovely, staff friendly and attentive and food really good. Previous reviews are either written by the owners friends or these people are visiting a pub in a parallel universe. Yes, it's good, but not as good as the last 3 reviews........

Waited 25 minutes for two light breakfasts. They arrived on plates swimming with grease, the mushrooms were cold and much of the rest luke warm at best. The staff seemed to loiter about with no sense of urgency and some staff training would'nt come amiss. The whole set up for ordering and serving hot food badly needs reviewing. A very poor Chatsworth experience not to be repeated.

Felt like we were in the way by arriving, brought the wrong food. Clearly agreed to let us split the bill then refused when we went to pay. Sorry for the inconvenience, we won't bother you again.

Visited today for coffee and lunch with my husband and dog. We were shown to a table in the side room which is dog friendly and it was fine, if compact. We had a toasted sandwich and a normal sandwich. The bread was fresh, plenty of cheese filling but would have liked more ham too. Nice side salad to accompany the plates. However no salt or pepper on any of the tables and no-one asked if we wanted anything or how our meals were. Coffees were fine. What I don't understand is why a family of 4 without a dog were showed into the same area rather than the other side of the cafe, so it did get very claustrophobic.
