Considering it was garden of the year 2023 I was expecting a lot more. On a par with some of the smaller Blue Diamond, Dobbies outlets but even then lacking in choice. Not cheap either. We actually went for Sunday lunch but as we had the dog with us we would have had to sit outside on the veranda. As it was cold and raining we declined their generous offer. Fortunately we found the very pleasant Hirns pub in Ashbourne that could accommodate us. In hindsight I suspect the Fairlawns did us a favour.

Lovely garden centre, plenty of parking the only disappointment for me was the price and portion you were given on the Sunday Carvery, the carvery was almost £13.00 and only had a small portion of peas, carrots, parsnip, small roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and a ball of stuffing with two slices of beef or turkey with gravy which was put on the plate by the young girls. It won't stop me from visiting the garden centre again but won't be using the café.

I love the garden center - it’s my happy place - but always feel the cafe could do better. It’s loud and needs more soft furnishings to reduce the echo. There are outside tables and when we went it was a lovely day. Unfortunately there wasn’t a single clear table. Everyone had dirty pots left on them. When our food came out the server walked passed all the dirty tables without picking up and clearing a single table as she went back inside. I’ve run cafes before and always have a no empty hands policy. The soup wasn’t very hot and the baguette was very dry. I know it could be better. The tea and coffee was good.

I visited with a relative who has a broken leg, I called beforehand to check wheelchairs were available (we do not have our own). On arrival there were 4 wheelchairs of various designs, all looked extremely old, dirty with rusty joins, definitely not suitable for a tall 6' 3" male. Please consider replacing them with new, modern, safe wheelchairs that are suitable for all. We travelled a long way and only stayed for 5-10 minutes as my relative felt uncomfortable and unsafe. We hoped to eat while there but changed our minds. Unfortunately we will not be visiting again.

We would really appreciate a small dog friendly area near the terrace entrance. I have emailed Fairways twice but was ignored. The problem is when its cold or rainy we have to sit on the terrace. A very pleasant terrace but not if its a less than nice day. When the weather gets better everybody wants to sit on the terrace so we cant get a table and have to come away disappointed. There is so much space in the restaurant to give a designated dog area. Please give this some consideration.

Love the garden centre but have marked it down because whilst sitting on the cafe balcony noticed it was adorned with hanging glass jars which am assuming were full of a liquid to entice wasps. All of them had wasps in which were fighting to survive but were drowning in in what was a slow and disturbing death. Was upset and shocked by this as not only are wasps good for the garden but it was cruel and not what I would expect to see in a garden centre. It was bad enough for me to see but could be very upsetting to children. Very very disappointed by this cruelty.

Due to the C word it's been a while since we visited Fairways, I was slightly concerned after reading the last few reviews but we were in the area so decided to drop by. There was a good selection of perennials, rockery, roses, trees and the like, bit early for colour except for the usual for this time of year. Good selection of compost, bark, slabs etc, there is still some building work going on, it's been a nightmare trying to get a job finished in the last eighteen months so allowances made, not that it interfered with our visit though. The indoor areas are nicely set out, clean and tidy, beautiful garden furniture, at a price, lighting etc. My pet hate is garden centre clothing, bath bomb brigade and the prepacked food items, I understand the need to diversify but feel this type of merchandise misses the mark. We were enticed upstairs to the café by the smell of the Sunday roast, the café is a lovely area, bright and airy with an outdoor area for better weather. We were welcomed by the lady serving hot food and had a chat as she served our lunch, we opted for a small bottle of Chardonnay and a Thatchers cider to accompany our meal. Portion size was acceptable for the price point and the roast beef was absolutely delicious, total cost £24 and abit, i would have liked the food to be hotter and the plates reminded me of school dinner but that's being picky, we enjoyed our lunch and staff were friendly and visable. I've always felt Fairways prices are a bit on the expensive side and my view on that hasn't changed. Overall I think it's been a very difficult eighteen months or so for this type of business and I imagine it's not easy to find a balance, that said I do hope Fairways will move forward and look to the future and entice people to return again, by the same token customers need to see the bigger picture, if you're not happy then tell them, politely, constructive criticism is healthy. Overall we enjoyed our visit, thankyou Fairways.

It's always been a regular meeting place for me and my extended family and we went at the weekend for a coffee and a piece of cake for the first time since the first lockdown. The restaurant layout had been completely changed and frankly made no sense! There seemed to be 3 serveries, each with different offers and none of it clear. I had to fetch cakes and scones from 3 different areas to get 4 people what they wanted (which was only 2 x scones, a flapjack and some toast plus coffees) which meant I had to queue 3 times during a busy period. Then the cashier said it was cash only and when I said I had no cash she let me pay contact less as she said it was just that the management wanted to take cash (the contactless machine was right in front of me on the counter). Completely confusing and unnecessarily complicated. I hope you get your cafe offer sorted as we won't be visiting again and I'm sure others will stop coming too which would be such as a shame as we all want your garden centre to be a success.

We did visit the Christmas dept. but such a shame that you have to go out of the main building to see it. If the sign was there on Friday then we both missed it and when I drive into the carpark I'm not looking what's at the top of the yard.
