Pretty average food at Quality Restaurant Prices. Silly beer prices, £6.00 for a pint of average keg fizz ? The kids did their best to serve, bless 'em (lad behind bar stated that he couldn't 'do' wine, as they had run out of wine glasses !!). Two young ladies waiting on table were good, but really had no idea about, perhaps, offering desert after main course, or asking if 'everything is ok?' or offering a bill ? Not really surprising, as no evidence of any management. Nothing to stop us from just walking out after eating, except our honesty. Dingy, run-down feeling generally. Not recommended.

We met for a family meal , the service was very slow, only two people doing everything and it took 2 hours for 2 courses and it wasn’t even very busy, we wanted coffee but at 8pm we were told someone had turned the coffee machine off ! The food was lovely no complaints there, and there was a service charge to ?

The hotel closes at 10pm on a Sunday night. We arrived back at 10.02pm to find it locked & barred. Having attracted someone's attention I asked to pay off our day tab, adding a glass of red wine as a bedroom nightcap. The manager, Chris, would only accept our credit card payment but refused to add a glass of red wine to the payment. To repeat, this was at 10.02pm. Appalling customer service, we had thought of staying here again but now no longer, and it should be avoided.

Popped into The George, Tideswell for lunch with our granddaughter. It was very quiet when we entered which was just after opening time 12 pm. The staff were very friendly, especially the waitress who was polite and helpful. I had the fisherman’s pie, my husband had bangers and mash and our granddaughter had the chilli con carne and nachos. My fisherman’s pie was very tasty, perhaps a little less mash and more fish would have been an improvement. Hubby enjoyed his bangers and mash, especially the sausages. Our granddaughter was unable to finish her chilli as she found it a bit dry compared to what she has in Australia. We enjoyed our visit to The George and will definitely visit again.

Pleasant afternoon here whilst visiting the area. We had booked for lunch as the George was convenient for the family. Large spacious old pub in need of a spruce up. Service was average with quite a wait for food although they were busy. Overall Ok if your in the area and want to eat although there are some other options if you seek them out.

We sat outside in the sunshine. There were plenty of tables in front of the hotel. I can't actually remember exactly what I had to eat but I know I ate everything and made a mental note to write a good review. I think I had a sandwich and salad and it fulfilled my needs as a midday meal. My husband had chips with whatever he had and I helped myself to a few as they were the best I've ever had.

The chef’s homemade beef and ale pie was one of the best I’ve ever eaten. Tender beef, not too much pastry, a jug of extra gravy. Heavenly. The vegetables were not over cooked as well. All in all if you’re a fan of this pub classic I don’t think you’d be disappointed.

Stopped here for lunch mid-hike over the weekend. Staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere was pleasant. Pub has a nice feel in general. There were no local ales, which was slightly disappointing, although there was a good range of drinks. Menu was fairly standard, and we chose jacket potato with cheese and coleslaw (for me) and a cheeseburger (for my husband). The jacket was slightly too well done for my liking, as the skin was almost inedible. Coleslaw tasted watery and cheap however, and the salad didn't look or taste very fresh. Husband enjoyed his burger, although it was slightly overdone, and the fries appeared to be the frozen variety. Prices were very reasonable, and there was free WiFi, which was a bonus. There was certainly nothing to complain about, but by the same token, we wouldn't plan a second trip here. Overall, a fairly average pub - well situated, with great staff, but the food is nothing special.

My wife was going to have the pie but we were told they had run out, so they both had the curry which they said was nice. Yes the beds are soft and squidgy but ok for a night. Be warned that you may be on the side next to the church which unfortunately has a bell that goes off every quarter of an hour and I didn't sleep much past one. Also being above a pub you expect noise however by 11.30 it was clear they were having a mini nightclub scene and the bass from the house music was quite frustrating. We did eat here as had booked a table. They were very busy in the bar area and perhaps a bit short on staff, after waiting nearly 40 minutes for dinner we were quite hungry. Food was tasty though and hot and the staff are friendly with a good atmosphere.

Visited at the weekend for lunch and the food was excellent, a lovely meal that was very much enjoyed and for a great price too! Shame we don't live in the area as wewould certainly be back!

Purchased a 99 and one for my partner from the van £10 what a rip off when challenged answered very arrogant it is Bakewell and I pay £40,000 for pitch. Rubbish ice cream and even worse service. Never again.

Really poor. Save your money and go down the road 5 mins to the Old Smithy Beeley for your moneys worth, time and quality. £13.50 for a full english breakfast which was nothing better than being in a Wetherspoons. Portion side is horrendous and coffee was disgusting. Both taste and how it was made. Looks lovely and welcoming both inside and out so a real shame really. Expect better
