Waited 25 minutes for two light breakfasts. They arrived on plates swimming with grease, the mushrooms were cold and much of the rest luke warm at best. The staff seemed to loiter about with no sense of urgency and some staff training would'nt come amiss. The whole set up for ordering and serving hot food badly needs reviewing. A very poor Chatsworth experience not to be repeated.

After waiting 1/2 hour in a queue for coffee . We struggled to find a table that wasn't full of dirty dishes. Eventually we seated ourselves only to drink possibly the worst coffee we have ever tasted . We looked at each other and decided just to leave it and leave !!!! Won't bother again

We had the regular ( one of everything ) breakfast for £8.95. It was all delicious and satisfying. My poached egg was perfectly cooked just as I had asked. The staff were friendly and helpful. Special mention for Amanda, who took our order, and made us feel so welcome. It's no exaggeration to say we really enjoyed it all and are pleased to recommend it.

Good coffee but mixed standards on the cakes as the vegan chocolate and hazelnut cake was like dust and therefore inedible. The staff were apathetic and people were waiting for around 20 minutes in a queue before being told food was no longer being served due to low staffing levels.

We have always enjoyed this restaurant and took family guests with us on a Christmas shopping trip. So disappointed. They seemed short staffed. Very slow clearnce of tables. Our guests ordered at the same time as we did, but we had amost finished eating when their's arrived - cold baked potatoes, which had to go back! We were not offered any compensation, although staff did apologise. Our meals were also disappointing in various respects. Perhaps just coffee and cake another time?

This was a very disappointing experience. The café had run out of all jacket potatoes and only had one type of soup, supposedly leek and potato. After making compromises on our choices there followed a 25 minute wait. Had the delay been advised at the till I doubt we would have waited given the limited choices for lunch, even though it was not yet 1pm! Sadly the food did not justify the wait.... The leek and potato soup was unexpectedly orange and so salty it was unpleasant. My husband fared no better with his bacon, brie and cranberry sandwich which was far from "freshly baked".

Why Chatsworth have not done something about this place beggars belief. We haven't been for a while, previously food has been great. Which is why we didn't look at the reviews, more fool us. Went today and after ordering we waited 40 ,minutes for the food. Hubby had the fish and chips, which was ok. I ordered the festive sandwich with salad and chips. Breaded turkey, cranberry, brie, fried egg, gherkins and leaves. The only good thing about this meal was the chips. The worst was the turkey. I think it had been deep fried as the breadcrumbs were rock hard and the turkey dry and tasteless. I managed to eat the egg and cheese, This was all between 3 slices of toasted bread, which definitely came from a sandwich loaf. I asked the young waiter if he would let the kitchen know it was inedible. He was very polite and said sorry. No one approached as we finished our drinks. I went up to one of the servers at the counter and complained when we were leaving. All he said was 'sorry about that'. Enough said, they clearly have no regard for customers.

I understand the cafe was busy, but we waited almost 40 minutes for 2 jacket potatoes and a panini. When it arrived one of the orders was wrong, so it had to go back, leaving me and my daughter to eat our lunch alone. We had almost finished by the time my husband’s lunch came back. I raised this matter and complained, and all the staff member could say was sorry. There was not even an offer of a complimentary hot drink to smooth over their error, which I would have at least expected. A shame because the food was nice but the family lunch experience was spoiled.

Very disappointing visit though I had sympathy with the staff. There were too few to cope with the amount of customers. Taking orders, payment and making hot drinks is too much for one person and created quite a queue, and we saw only one person serving. It was a half wait for our food which I expect was simply due to lack of staff. The food was average at best and overpriced for what we got. Lovely pot of tea though.

No where near the food offered at the stables or the new Rowsley Chatsworth café, the ham salad was plastic ham and the beetroot and carrot salad had no flavour, the potatoes and feta salad was probably yesterday roast potatoes mixed with beetroot and no flavour. Such a shame, poster on the till says no scones but there were, the almond and cherry was yummy but need a few more cherries. Staff are miserable, not smart either and no smiles which is such a shame for such a gem. No competition for the other cafes that Chatsworth offer.

Myself, my wife and our three daughter went for a lovely walk around Chatsworth as we do on occasion. For the first time we decided to pop into the vines restaurant to grab a snack for the journey home. Went to the counter where cakes are served where we were met by 2 members of staff, 1 of which was standing chatting and the other was doing a little cleaning. After waiting for a few minutes of being ignored by the two staff members, my wife asked the ladies ‘are any of you serving’ which was met with a stale response of…..I’m cleaning out!. So after a few more minutes and more people in the que becoming more agitated, we were then served. The ladies seemed more interested in the conversation that they were having rather than the customers in front of them. There is no need for rudeness, I’d happily wait if we were met with some half decent customer service but unfortunately this wasn’t the case on the day. Other than that, the cakes were alright and the child’s dinner box was great. But unfortunately we won’t be visiting the restaurant (cafè) again.

It’s horrible to watch a restaurant that you’ve enjoyed going to for many years change. We love travelling to the Chatsworth area, mainly on a weekend, where most trips include a lunch stop at the Vines. There was generally ample seating, the food and staff were great, and the wait times were very reasonable. However the experience has changed over the last few months. Pre-covid, there was a clear distinction of counters for people who wanted a relatively quick coffee & cake, and for folks who wanted bigger, cooked meals. I’m assuming that the building was designed with that in mind, and the great utilisation of space made it all work very well. Initially, and presumably as a social-distancing measure, they wisely disallowed people from snaking through the ‘carvery’ section, and made it such that you ordered and paid at that till, but there were still two tills in-use. Then, a sign started to appear directing everyone to the tea/scones till where the queue can build-up rapidly. Maybe it’s a staff-shortage thing? On one recent trip, a sign said that equipment had broken which made waiting times inflate anything up to an hour, so we did a U-turn and headed down the road to eat. We don’t feel that the food quality has necessarily deteriorated, and we’ll keep occasionally visiting the Vines, but it’s no longer our go-to place.

Dining on 27th October 2019 @ 1pm. What a let down revisiting this pub. ( Had two good previous meals served by Vicki who was friendly and attentive). However the person on Sunday serving needs to take a page out of Vicki's book for she was scatty, and no customer skills. We ordered roast dinner, not very hot came without cutlery. Had to ask for them. Fish and chips with peas tossed on the plate. Chips looked like left overs (previously served as chunky chips in a wired basket, delicious). They were just as though they had been left standing. Complained, and grumpy young waitress took them back. Almost 10 mins later they came back almost inedible. Chips were greasy and the battered fish so hard had to dissect it to eat the fish, which was sadly dried out. Then asked for tartar which was taken off the plate obviously while heating up the food and forgotten to serve it. We didn't re-complain ,staff appears uninterested so we cut our losses. Went to the bar to order coffee(not asked while sat at the table if we wanted desserts or drinks). So nervously we carried 2 cups to our table striding over well behaved dogs spilling in the saucers, luckily not on the dogs. We had to ask for the other 2 cups to be brought to our table, then at that point we give the girl our plates. Poor dining experience, whether we were served with caviar or chips would have had the same unpleasant experience. We actually recommended the Anchor to a large party but since last Sunday everyone has found somewhere else to dine. Won't be returning for food. A real let down.

Visited today for coffee and lunch with my husband and dog. We were shown to a table in the side room which is dog friendly and it was fine, if compact. We had a toasted sandwich and a normal sandwich. The bread was fresh, plenty of cheese filling but would have liked more ham too. Nice side salad to accompany the plates. However no salt or pepper on any of the tables and no-one asked if we wanted anything or how our meals were. Coffees were fine. What I don't understand is why a family of 4 without a dog were showed into the same area rather than the other side of the cafe, so it did get very claustrophobic.

Really poor. Save your money and go down the road 5 mins to the Old Smithy Beeley for your moneys worth, time and quality. £13.50 for a full english breakfast which was nothing better than being in a Wetherspoons. Portion side is horrendous and coffee was disgusting. Both taste and how it was made. Looks lovely and welcoming both inside and out so a real shame really. Expect better
