Visited today for coffee and lunch with my husband and dog. We were shown to a table in the side room which is dog friendly and it was fine, if compact. We had a toasted sandwich and a normal sandwich. The bread was fresh, plenty of cheese filling but would have liked more ham too. Nice side salad to accompany the plates. However no salt or pepper on any of the tables and no-one asked if we wanted anything or how our meals were. Coffees were fine. What I don't understand is why a family of 4 without a dog were showed into the same area rather than the other side of the cafe, so it did get very claustrophobic.

Popped in here with my wife for a cup of tea and a fruit scone and whilst the scone was reasonable the tea was the worst we have ever had. Normally you would expect the flavour and colour of tea in your cuppa but no matter how much I stirred the pot no colour or flavour could be extracted...which makes you wonder if we had been given second hand teabags a la Ernie Wise (he used to hang them up to dry before reusing them)! I know I should have said something but life's too short....oh and yes the tables required someone to actually clean them a little. It's not much to ask...

There’s not a lot to say about this garden centre cafe, other than it seems to be resting on its laurels. I’ve visited quite a number of times over the last few years, not because there is anything special about it (there definitely isn’t) but because it’s a handy in-between point for catching up with a friend and grabbing a bite to eat at the same time.Whilst it’s always been okay, if not gastronomically exciting, our last visit on 15th May was pretty dire. It was the day of the planned Lancaster Bomber fly past, which we were excited about seeing, so we were prepared for the cafe being much busier than usual. However, the fly past ended up being cancelled due to weather conditions. Although my friend and I were disappointed, we decided that we would still meet up for lunch at the cafe. What a mistake.Service was slow and lacked any kind of sensible coordination. Instead of one member of staff serving one customer, there were several members of staff resembling a human chain as they passed the plates down the line, each one adding a portion of something or other before passing the plate to the next staff member. This process seemed to take absolutely ages and, inevitably, by the time we came to eat the food, it was only just luke warm. It might have helped if the food had been served on to hot plates but the plates themselves were cold. The quality of the food was poor with tasteless vegetables, fatty meat and gravy that had less taste than the water that comes out of my tap.Service was poor, with many tables being uncleared and customers having to move piles of dirty plates, cups, glasses before sitting down to eat their food. I can only surmise that all the staff were behind the counter practising their bucket brigade routine. It wasn’t overly busy at the time and I cannot imagine how the place would have coped had the fly past not been cancelled. I won’t be going back for sure.

Always have a drink and snack in this cafe. Prices are reasonable. £1.95 for pot of tea that gives you 3 cups. Coffee is same price or £2.50 for unlimited drinks. Plenty of seating inside and out.

clean and fairly stark place to eat, light bites or full hot meals. We chose to have paninis, very early lunch time so not busy, staff very friendly and helpful, but could see they would be overstretched when it got busier. Lunch nothing special and a few limp salad leaves not very inviting. Expensive for what we got. Only two toilets within the cafe area, not very clean - others outside.

Me and my friend came here to treat ourselves to some cake after completing a big walk around the Chatsworth fields. We ordered a slice of lemon tart and a chocolate flapjack. We both really enjoyed it! We took our cake away, so cannot comment on the cleanliness or service, other than that the girl serving us was quite slow, so I imagine if we had come during peak lunchtimes, we may have got a little impatient.

went here for breakfast and a hot drink. breakfast nice then we notices the offer for free refill of tea or coffee with ANY hot drink. A nice lady came to our table to clear our plates and i asked her about the offer. i asked if we could have a coffee if our original drinks were tea which she said yes and said it didnt matter and the lady left with the tray of pots. my husband went to the counter and asked for 2 coffees to which we were told no we would only have tea. we said ok and tea was fine. we then were asked for our original cups to which we said someone had just cleared then away. we were then refused a refill and the girl rudely just walked off into the kitchen. such a shame and left feeling very disappointed.

Food here is always good whether it's just a jacket potato, light bite or a roast lunch. Service is quick and friendly and prices are reasonable. Jackets are interesting and have unusual fillings and the roast lunches are a generous plateful. Handy location to walk your lunch off at the garden centre.

A cold, wet January afternoon can be cheered up with a visit to the restaurant.Good selection of food at a reasonable price spoilt by the food not being hot enough though it,s under lights on a hot-plate.Really friendly staff.

Given how much everything costs we expected better crockery and cutlery and for the tables to be clean, especially as it wasn't busy. I was disappointed that my Mocha didn't have cream on top of it. My husband had a pot of tea which was so awful he couldn't drink it, and the small jug of milk which came with it had a huge chip out of the rim. He advised me not to visit the toilets as only one was working and it had a broken soap dispenser, grimy taps and was very scruffy.

We visited for Sunday lunch at the end of Oct 2017 with two friends. The restaurant was busy but not packed. The experience was very entertaining and amusing but very frustrating too.The girls on the food section servery were so disorganised it was hilarious to watch and we had plenty of time to watch because we were in the queue for food.No one appeared to be supervising, each girl took an order from one person at a time and proceeded down the counter asking which meat, which veg, do you want Yorkshire pud, gravy, Drink? etc and then made drinks too leaving all others in the queue to queue and wait !At times there were no trays, no plates, no tea cups or coffee cups, no clean glasses, the cutlery was hidden behind a screen and not visible from the checkout (which the same serving girl operated) it was like watching a scene from Fawlty Towers.Tables were not cleared for ages, trays weren't collected, No ONE was incharge of the place. The food was OK when we finally got it BUT the entertainment was great and we would visit again. So long as they don't get themselves organised and become quicker and more efficient :)

We took my mother for her birthday to both the on site garden centre and the Vines Restaurant. Both were extremely enjoyable. My mum particularly liked her lunch saying it was one of the best she had ever had. I must also agree that the carvery is nicely cooked and full of flavour plus a good portion.

This is located within the garden centre on the Chatsworth estate, it has its own carpark or park in the grounds and walk along the river before you eat. You have to walk through the garden centre to reach it which, at times, can get really busy but it's worth it. You can sit inside or outside where you are surrounded by lovely plants and wildlife. There is a good choice of hot and cold food, from breakfast, lovely sandwiches to a full roast, depending on the time of day. They do an excellent smoked salmon mousse with freshly toasted ciabatta and salad. The staff are very polite and friendly, the food is displayed well and presented well, the whole area is very clean and well managed. They serve a really good afternoon tea from 2.30pm a lovely reward after a stroll around the wonderful Chatsworth grounds or if you want to venture further you can walk to Baslow, Beeley, Rowsley or if you have the time over to the Haddon Estate, the views are spectacular once you get high up and well worth the effort.

Just returned home from a fantastic day out in Derbyshire starting with one of our invitations to view Pollyanna Pickering's art exhibitions at her home at Oker near Matlock. The theme of this exhibition was Antartctica and the gallery was filled with countless paintings of Polar Bears, Penguins and all things Polar. There were also many more original paintings based on PP's countless trips to the four corners of the Earth. Pollyanna is always on duty to speak to visitors and talk about her past and future expeditions. Fantastic!! On to The Vines restaurant within Chatsworth Garden Centre for the Pensioner's Special lunch. The 2 roasts of the day were beef and turkey but the beef was not included in the 2 course special but was on the normal lunch menu of course. As alternatives the choices were mushroom stroganoff, beef bourginon or local sausage with red onion gravy. Accompanying vegetables were cabbage, mixed veg, new potatoes and roast potatoes, Yorkshie pud with the beef. The inclusive dessert was Summer Fruit sponge and custard but a huge selection of home made sweets and pastries were available on the main menu all made by one of the ladies on servers duty. Yum yum. I found the sausage well seasoned and with high meat content and my wife thoroughly enjoyed the stroganoff and rice. If you fancy something a little less wholesome there are a selection of Light Bites. As a carvery style service there was little queuing and there were a few vacant tables to chose from including several outside in the rose area. Good wholesome food, good portions and real value for money I.e. Two x 2 filling course meals and 2 diet Cokes, a tad over £20. That's why we keep going back there. Really worth a visit folks.

Regular visitor to this Restaurant. The food is absolutely wonderful, served by happy and cheerful staff. It's very clear that this Restaurant has a large number of repeat local customers, when you see the staff on first name terms with so many of them. That's always a good sign to me. The food is well presented, attractively priced in beautiful surroundings. Well worth a visit.

I recently had quite a good tuna roll and coffee but the elderly lady on the next table discovered a long hair in her meal. What really surprised me was that no manager seemed to deal with this problem. She reassured me that they were going to give her a fresh meal but personally I would have left and found somewhere better to eat. I was only pleased that I had finished my meal because I don't think I could have continued eating. I left shortly afterwards and only hope that things were sorted out to her satisfaction. I will certainly not be returning to this establishment in a hurry. The Vines is at the Chatsworth Garden Centre and does not appear to be run by the Chatsworth Estate. The Vines should not be confused with the nearby Chatsworth Farm Shop Restaurant which I will review in the near future.

Waited 25 minutes for two light breakfasts. They arrived on plates swimming with grease, the mushrooms were cold and much of the rest luke warm at best. The staff seemed to loiter about with no sense of urgency and some staff training would'nt come amiss. The whole set up for ordering and serving hot food badly needs reviewing. A very poor Chatsworth experience not to be repeated.

Loved this place ... it was supposed to be for a quick coffee but it has many marvellous ideas especially at this time of year regarding decorations, gifts for all the family, plants and homeware. Do visit if you have the chance ... ps great coffee and cakes too !
