Decided to treat myself to a piece of Red Velvet cake which looked sooo yummy in the window display. This was to be my later in afternoon sin and at £4.25 per slice was it so. Sadly that is as far as the good points go... mediocre red sponge covered and interlayered with rock hard 'frosting'. All of it way too sweet. Recently had this in Greece and it was soft, rich and superb so what has happened to the UK version? Altho the cake was an uncut whole and should have been fresh it obviously isnt. Dear Owner, please take this item off sale right now - I cant be bothered to hoof it back to town and give it back or ask for a refund as I am so racked off. I notice several other stale cake reviews for earlier months - oh yeah and intersperced with rave reviews from new contributors.Hmmmm.

I’ve visited quite a few times since the new owners have taken over and had a great experience each time, so pleased to say the Hilton Brook is my favourite local again, finally! Most recently we had a surprise visit from extended family so we took our chances and hoped we could get a table for lunch. The staff couldn’t be more accommodating for all of us and the food was absolutely spot on, all came out piping hot, really well presented and absolutely delicious, especially the fish & chips and the surf & turf!! Lily and Jess were wonderful and we will definitely be back!

I had a bad experience at this costa today, I was in line and the people in front of me allowed me to go in front of them as I had cold food and they all were waiting for their hot food. When I was served (by the manger I assume) she was very condescending and tried to explain to me how a que worked (sarcastically of course) and then when I later purchased a panini she undercooked it by 3 minutes (as a costa worker myself I am aware of how long they go under for) I then return the panini without a refund and left. Just because she was older than me doesn’t mean she should have spoke down to me, I hope her service improves so she can be an example to her staff, and not an example of bad customer service

I felt it was quite an awkward place. You have to book in advance for afternoon tea when in reality it was dry, cheap bread with probably aldi ham in the middle and dry cakes. Upon arrival the owner was leaning over the counter playing on her phone. No customer service. Once the food was placed in front of us I noticed that a hair was in one of the scones. She then replaced it with a small shop bought one. The other scone was very hard and dry. The cups were dirty and we had no spoons. The milk was a little off as if it had been sat on the table all day. Overall not a great experience. I think the whole afternoon tea was chucked together onto a cake stand, put on top of sticky tables, costing a couple of quid but charging people so much more. The whole experience was very awkward and it didn't feel very welcoming in there at all which is sad because it's not the service you would expect from a small local coffee shop. Costa provides a better experience!

Been fairly regular for the past 7 months, and never had an experience like today. My friend and I went in today around 4 o’clock, she ordered a salted caramel frappe no cream with coffee, the staff member « Amy » promptly forgot these requests, and had to be reminded as she was putting cream on (not sure if she did actually put coffee in), we both wrote it off until I was served, I am lactose intolerant, and asked for an oat latte with vanilla, at first she had the regular milk jug for steaming and I had to interject and then when pouring my coffee shot, she attempted to use a takeaway cup that had been face down in the water/coffee/milk mixture in the tray of the machine (as it had been taken apart for I assume cleaning 3 hours before closing), I then asked her not to use that cup as not only do I have allergy to milk it’s also really gross, the whole time they were being standoffish, and then when I got my drink there was no vanilla as she had forgot that too, although she apologized and corrected the error, it just felt really uncomfortable to ask for what I paid for to be made safely and properly, the rude demeanor took us both off guard, I have never had anything happen like this before but it’s just disappointing and below standards.

When my husband and I tried to order there were around 6 staff talking and laughing so loud and shouting across the preparation area, I had to repeat my order to the cashier a few times as he could not hear me and I couldn't hear him. This was Wednesday 24 July at 4pm. I had to shout at all of them to keep quiet so I could order.
