Revamped menu doesn't provide the extensive choice previously provided. We sat outside which was poorly maintained and looking pretty sad. When the food came it was presented on paper plates, chips in a polystyrene tray and fish and chip style wooden knife and fork! No condiments were offered. Food was basic. Lovely location beside the canal serving great pies. We also had the fish and lasagne were just mediocre. They did a sausage for the dog which he ate so guess it was ok. Only dog friendly in the garden or downstairs room, which smelt damp with dirty old furniture. Toilets were dirty with surfaces covered in thick dust and grime around sinks, despite the sign saying checked and cleaned regularly. Garden run down with rubbish and a marquee that has seen better days. Could be lovely with some tlc

Whether you are having a summer wedding and decide to use their lovely marquee or hire the cosy room downstairs with its lovely log fire, the lime kilns is a great place for celebrations. Our wedding reception was great, Gary the landlord coping with over 40 guests and ensuring everything went smoothly. It is also a favourite for sunday lunches and evening meals. Great food, friendly staff and the extra bonus of over 10 different traditional ciders and being able to watch the canal boats sail past. Highly recommend.

A fantastic welcoming pub. Great selection of drinks, especially a wide selection of ciders and Ales, some brewed on the premises. An excellent menu of finely presented meals. Great roasts and everything else you'd expect in a traditional pub. Located next to a canal, the beer garden is a relaxing place for a tipple and to watch the barges go by - or moor up and come in for a pint, if you happen to be boating along the Ashby-de-la-Zouch canal.

We were made to feel very welcome in the pub as we entered and our table had been reserved as requested. Our food was served very quickly and it was delicious. We had the diced lamb and a rump steak followed by pudding. The beers are really well kept and the landlord even sells his own brews which were superb. This is a pub pub. Nothing fancy (apart from the superb home brew!). The service was fantastic and the prices are incredibly reasonable. Two mains, two puds and drinks for £37. Highly recommended!!

Called in for drinks and meal with dog. Asked about dog told yes allowed but down stairs please, fair comment I thought. Having passed through warm, cosy bar, atmospheric room we went down stairs and found the barren dog room, bare bricks and dust, concrete on floor, building board against wall, no heating, no pictures, no music, no atmosphere more like a dungeon. Just one notice, keep dogs off furniture. Told by staff it had just been decorated !!!. Given dirty menu not the same menu as upstairs, felt why should we eat in this bland, dark, dingy room for the same price as upstairs, just because we have a well trained dog. Left pub without buying anything, wrote a firm but pleasant review by email to help them that night with how we felt, this has been ignored no reply. So here we are, Lime kiln Brew Pub not for dogs lovers, would never go back there, their loss of over £60. Landlords not in pub at time, we asked, staff members realise the state of room, not there fault.

I had read bad reviews on the pub but it looked lovely on their website so we went anyway we thought maybe the other people may have just been overly fussy. The first thing that met us was the smell of bird poo, and the scattering everywhere of geese down (feathers) and geese poo. We should have left then but we decided we would have a drink because we had travelled and we were hot and thirsty. We had never heard of the beer but it didn't look good and tasted even worse than it looked it also had bits floating in it and sediment on the bottom of the glass. We sat there for a bit I think we were a bit shocked by how horrible the beer was and on looking into our beer and seeing all these bits floating up and down and all the sediment on the bottom we decided to threw our drinks away and leave.

Their advert published that month talked of local foods and a ‘deli experience’ with home cooked foods to dine in or take away. No such thing exists. The downstairs cellar (available for private hire or if you have stupidly brought a dog!) is cold and and lacks any atmosphere. The ale selection was fair and the bag of scratchings a highlight. After a very enjoyable afternoon with my wife we decided to pop by a local country pub for a refreshing beverage. Upon arrival we were greeted by a very friendly member of staff but found the bar poorly stocked with only one brand of bottled beer. When my wife asked for a Gin and Tonic she was told there was only one choice of Gin and only Britvic Tonic available. The staff then couldn't provide cucumber for the drink. How can you provide a classic G&T without cucumber? With G&T out of the question, we asked for a Mojito which was also denied. At this point, the locals were sniggering behind their drinks. Peasants. Feeling frustrated Camilla then asked about the choice of wine, we were shocked to find they didn't offer any wines from the Stellenboch region and could only offer one type of wine in single serve bottles. Finally settling for a pineapple juice we retired to the quaint garden by the canal. Once we found a table clean enough to sit at, we were accosted by chickens until we could take no more. In all, a very poor choice of beverage for the more discerning consumer.

So it was a bag of crisps each for my partner and me. The staff weren't exactly rude but they were off-hand and behaved as though queuing customers were a nuisance. And to make our visit even worse, I then had a problem in the small car park. I had parked in a marked space but another car was then left sideways on, a few feet in front of mine, the landlord (I assume) stood beside it, for some reason with a calor gas container, and made no effort to help me leave the tight parking space. Dreadful.

Where do I start I know even giving it a one rating is to generous. We went for a special family reunion and what a disappointment. Was lovely looking out onto the canal but the chickens running round wasnt very hygienic. Should have left at that point. There was 9 of us, 2 ordered the chilli big mistake. It at best resembled chewed up and spat out dog food looked disgusting tasted even worse. The colour of it was a very pale beige not a red chilli colour. You could tell it had been defrosted and Luke warmed up as you could clearly see the rectangular outline of the Tupperware container. The worst was yet to come when we very kindly took it back inside not even eaten and pointed out the lady (think she was the owner?) was so defensive and rude it was unbelievable. I work in hotel management and id be horrified if any of my staff spoke to a customer like that. She was right we were wrong her exact words were 'well it's one of our most popular dishes if it's not to your liking I can't help that!' Seriously, not even a sorry yet alone an offer to replace it or take anything off the bill. We ordered more drinks and could see in the kitchen no one was wearing gloves, again not a good sign. When it came to paying the man at the bar was a bit more helpful than the lady then again that wasn't hard. And after a bit of tooing and froing he did take a nominal charge off the bill, but it should never have got to that point. The food was brought back uneaten that speaks volumes. I'd happily hand my hard earned cash over for good food and service but I begrudge it when both are not warranted and chancers think they can get away with it. I can not see how anyone thinks this is a good eating establishment. Do yourself a favour and go to the lovely harvester down the road, better food, better service, better value for money. DONT EAT HERE.

Definitely not a modern gastro-pub!Quite a lot of indoor seating as well as canal-side picnic tables, this pub offers quite a range of inexpensive dishes - including many different pies. We had a beef pie and a risotto. The presentation of the risotto was rather unusual and came with chips! Service was very much take it or leave it - but then you get what you pay for.

Went here with my friend for our fortnightly catch up, we like to try different places round where we live. The welcome we got was far from friendly it seemed as if it was too much trouble. We both had our favourite fish and chips the meals came out very hot and quite quick it was nothing special however we did eat most of it, other customers came in while we were there and they never even got a smile. I don't think we will return.

Well the Limn Kilns has lost my business forever. After popping in for lunch today at 13-55, the bar staff were busy serving food. When he returned at 14-01 he informed me that food stops at 14-00, despite me saying I had been waiting for 5 minutes. Rang the manager tonight who wasnt interested and put the phone down on me. CUSTOMER SERVICE at its best. Shame cause food is lovely.

We were here for a birthday meal for my partner. I don't think I've been here before, I was pleasantly surprised. They catered for 16 of us (including three children), we all found something we liked, the food was absolutely wonderful, very fresh and extremely tasty. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, they even gave us plates so we could serve up the birthday cake that we'd brought in. I would 100% recommend the Lime Kilns to anyone, even the view is brilliant, right on the canal.

Having called in for the occasional drink we thought we would try the Monday night curry. Great value at three pounds and good ales to wash it down with. The pies are also good but some of the other meals appear to be from the freezer. Still a great pub and we'll be back.

Visited this pub for Sunday lunch in November. We were served by a hairy biker looking man who I can only describe as very unwelcoming. He was quite abrupt and both me and my husband felt we were being a nuisance to him for wanting to be served. Pub was very quiet considering it was lunch time and possibly his attitude was the reason why. We both had roast dinner which was fine and served by a lady who was thankfully a little friendlier. We will possibly return as we are not easily intimidated and it was quite an experience as felt like we were in a scene of Fawlty Towers being served by Basil. My husband summed him up nicely by reminding me of the saying 'under every pony tail you will always find an a@#ehole

Visited for Monday's Curry Night for £3.00 per head - lovely meal, ordered Lamb Rogan and husband ordered Chicken Balti, friend ordered fish cakes - curry plates were cold and consequently rice spread out over cold plate was cold also when it came to the table and thus the curry was not hot (temperature wise) either, having said that, everything was tasty and served by friendly staff and, yes, I would come again. I like this pub, been coming for over 20 years now and it has a good layout and allows you to have good tables for good conversations - thank you ☺

So after reading some negative reviews on here we still decided to come and have a meal here. And from the moment we walked in we were pleasantly surprised the staff were very helpful and couldn't do enough to assist, food was delicious. We both had 1 of the pies and was very tasty and good value for money. We shall be visiting again. Thankyou very much.

Ok it was a cold 8c November day. We parked up alongside a canal. We climbed stairs to the Bar. A quick glance at a chalk board revealed a list of pies. Another chalk board..a list of real ale. On the bar another menu revealed most of our favourite pub meals. We sat beside an open fire. It had been 20+years since our group had visited this pub. We agreed not to leave it so long. The food, staff and ale are excellent. The A5 is busy. The pub is worth putting your blinker on.

Good food and good value. Much used by locals and canal folk. CAMRA winning establishment. Wonderful selection of different pies. Restaurant is on first floor which is level with main road (A5). A little limited in size but plenty of tables outside - if good weather. So suggest you book in advance.

This place is situated right on the A5 and next to a canal, we didn't see much of the canal as it was dark we went but the photos in daylight look nice. This is quite a small place to eat with a local feel specialising in real ale (I am not much of a drinker so can't comment on this aspect) and home cooked food which was excellent and great valve, most of the meals are £8.25 and the children's menu is less than £4 for a big enough plate of food to keep the hungry monsters happy. There is plenty of parking here which is down at canal level but you have to use steps to access the main pub which is at road level. The toilets are also downstairs.I would come here again without a second thought but our second day is a Sunday and they don't seem to serve food on Sunday evening. One final thought is that they also have lots of specials on each day of the week but I would say that a good home cooked pie is the highlight of this place.
