The castle restaurant / cafe in Hinckley and Bosworth

Absolutely will visit this cafe every time we go to Hinckley! Great food and affordable. I have had several items off the menu and the steak burger and chips were beautiful and probably one of the best burgers I’ve had in a while. Staff are friendly and nice, if you want to pay more for your food, go somewhere that will charge you more. Thank you, from a repeat customer, you definitely don’t deserve a 2.5 on trip advisor

Whole place smelt of stale chip fat, table was visisibly dirty and sticky. When I went to order, staff members looked at me like I was dirt on their shoe, and was served by a girl with rolled down trousers exposing her mid section, great for a night out but maybe not for serving food. Numerous times the staff grouped to one corner to gossip and just the whole place was quite disgusting. Its a shame because it used to be ok.

My wife and I were wandering around the shops in Hinckley, a town we don’t ever remember visiting, even though we only live across the M1 in Leicester, and decided to find somewhere to eat. Now I did something I never normally do before writing a review, and that is to read some of the other reviews. I try to avoid doing this so that every word of my review is from me and my experience, and not something I remember from another review. Before I start writing a review I always find the establishment first on TripAdvisor to make sure that the place is on the website and I’m not writing a review I can’t post, but this time when the web page opened I was rather intrigued by the low scores that this place had attained, so I was drawn to reading why so many people were finding it necessary to mark the place down, as our experience wasn’t all that bad. Anyway, we were attracted by the really cheap prices, and a couple of people sitting outside already had their meals and they looked fine. Now the place could definitely do with a little TLC, but it looked clean and tidy, so we initially sat down outside, but soon moved inside as we couldn’t get a table that didn’t wobble about. We chose a table by the window and had a quick look at the menu and decided to have one of the fish and chip specials and the steak burger special along with a couple of soft drinks. I went to the counter and was immediately served by a very pleasant young lady, who was polite and proficient. I sat back down with our drinks and in no time at all the meals were brought to the table. Now I had paid the princely sum of £11.70 for the whole meal – yes you read that right, so wasn’t expecting too much. Surprisingly the portions were quite generous, the meal was hot and tasted not too bad at all, so very good value for money. If you want a cheap meal, that is served hot to your table and tastes fine then this is the place for you.

What a sad experience. Food was hot, but tasteless, overpriced, and poor quality. Staff were apathetic, slack and more interested in chatting than serving. Cobwebs on the drinking glasses, grease on the walls, tables not cleared.

Food was as great as usual however, out of the 3 young girls working and I use the term very loosely, one one was actually working. No tables have been cleared in the hour I was here. 2 of the girls were too busy on their phone's. One set of customer's had a refund and left. I witnessed one being rude to a customer telling her not to come back and slamming the till.

The only good thing was the people eating nice and friendly. Now to the restaurant only got one drink others missed had to go back in and ask for them at least the food was hot that's the only reason it gets 2 star's waiting staff to busy playing on their phone to bother with the customers Tables left uncleared,when they finally bothered to bring the drinks over the attitude of waiting staff was down right disgraceful was left to feel like we where a nuisance to be there. DON'T BOTHER WITH THIS PLACE YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !!!!

Popped in here today for lunch tables were disgusting service without a smile and the sandwich we had was pathetic will not step foot in here again

This place is awful. Sitting here at 12.39 on Friday 26th of July. Most people have had to send their orders back as wrong including me. I was missing a sausage and a hash brown from my standard breakfast. It took 40 minutes to come. And now I've sent it back it's taken 40 mins and I've still not had a hash brown and sausage just chucked on the plate. Not only that but when asking for my food and where is it. It get snotty and rude replies. Now they've stopped serving food and are turning people away. Avoid like the plague. Useless at service and food. And rude.

£3 full english brekky....unbeatable!

Thought I would go with 5 stars as this cafe is cheap and cheerful with a well proportioned good standard of food. For a 5* star review I would recommend an extra clean on the menus, condiments etc. Also an upgrade on the cutlery would be great.

First visit to this delightful cafe/restaurant, I have rented a studio flat opposite this place and wondered is it a real cafe, too my sprise yes it was, the young lady who served me was polite, courteous and an exceptional smile. Ordered an all day breakfast which in my opinion was delicious on the bacon was not a whole rash having said that it was nice mealish after shopping. It was very much like the old school BBC servery in London. Will definately go again and tackle their BELLY BUSTER BURGER. Both me and my brother ordered sausage egg and chips, Waited over half an hour, when it arrived, no sausages, they said they will do some be a couple of minutes, nothing came, other people's food was coming out, we had eaten the egg and chips, or been cold, the man next to us had been waiting ages, I said if they ever come, you can have em, and we left, rubbish place

Had the mushroom omlette with a pot of tea. Can't fault the food, service or price.

They misheard my order and brought a tuna mayo salad, not a sandwich (I wondered why it was more expensive) but the person who received it was happy to have it. The prices seem to have gone up a bit too. Would still recommend it as it's easy access for a pram or wheelchair. Nearest carpark is in Britannia centre. Good choice of food.

£6:90 for poor quality singles rather of bacon, 1 sausage 1 egg, slice of toast & a ton of beans & chopped tomato. Probably not the worst in Hinckley but one of them.

Best Tuna cheese panini tasted!

This is a really nice traditional cafe with lovely staff. We had coffee and hot chocolate with a waffle and all of them were great. Prices are very reasonable and I was tempted by some of the other breakfast options!

All food was clearly deep fried in the same fryer. Shame really as I don’t get to have food with my wife often due to work commitments. Would totally get it if the food was cheap but it’s expensive and you don’t know the prices until you hit the till as all signage doesn’t have a price list. Avoid this place like the plague, I will be adding this to many social media groups and pages to get the word out. Food standards need to really take a look at this place, shame for your staff to have to serve this up. Disgusting!

A locals cafe with a good selection and reasonable prices

I have walked pasted many times! Though on this occasion l stepped it. At first slightly out dated decor. Menu offered many different appetisers. Ordering just a simple sandwich did take long and a hot drink, service to order was quick and very welcoming. Did seem a long time though worthwhile, my sandwich came toasted? Unexpected and also a side salad? Definitely not expecting that, considering it was a breakfast sandwich. I have to say the food was very nice and enjoyable. As we can't always predict who attends a location. You have to make it worthwhile while you are there. Chef: the food was enjoyable. Staff polite and service with a smile. Worth a drop in and experience the food.

Place is very dirty and need of a good clean, cobs webs and tables are sticky and their was snail track on the stairs near the toilets and the top eating area is more like a store room, hate to imagine wha the kitchen is like and a refurbishments. Painting it ect ect.

Shame its so small. Perhaps the parking charges for a car make the items too dear compared to free parking offered by supermarkets. Councillors seem blind to this drawback killing town centres

The breakfast was served on an ice cold plate, the beans and tomatoes ran into each other looking and tasting disgusting. The fried egg was over cooked and dry. Altogether a really disgusting experience and I will never go there again.

Comfortable town centre cafe with decent menu and service, but remember it is a cafe, not a restaurant.

Not so good here recently,long wait for food to be prepared, although not very busy,another customer,complained how bad her meal was,had a new meal prepared and that was unbeatable,no apology or refund.

A blast from the 70s and 80s. Or at least the decor hasn't been updated since. Huge room with no atmosphere. Very little clientele,and half of them seem to be partners of the waitresses. Had brunch which consisted of bacon egg chips and beans. No sausage as you'd expect. Bacon was solid and tasteless. Chips were basic frozen chips deep fried to within an inch of their life. Eggs were fried in a cup and contained half of the shell in the bottom. Milkshakes were nice but that was the best bit of the meal. Never again.

Visited this cafe whilst on the road a few days back. Food excellent and the large pot of tea did not disappoint. The two female staff were really friendly and helpful. They tolerated me sitting working on my laptop for 3 hours before I left too! Thank you to the most patient ladies' in the world!

Went to this place yesterday morning service was good. Food ok nothing special, £8 for a full English was expensive tbh.

Very friendly and comfortable place, wonderful destination for charming atmosphere and good comfort food. Maybe I'm biased by having my first post-pandemic full English breakfast here, but it tasted absolutely heavenly.

Chicken and bacon pannini was rubbish...very poor almost non-existent content, flat as pancake and looked and tasted like it had been deep fried... Awful!!!

Everytime I go into Hinckley I drop in here. Good portions and excellent value. If they opened for Sunday lunch, I'd definately go! Recommenmded.

I like the omelets they are very good, with generous fillings and do pots of tea.

We were sat outside for 20 minutes looking at a menu to order, multiple staff walked past and no one thought to tell us that they had just closed. Absolute waste of time!

no table service during covid rules and people come and go wearing no masks. coffee is the cheapest cash and carry instant and disgusting. loyal following with locals who know no better , hasta la vista Castle cafe

Old school cafe first class service

First visit here and probably last too!! Asked for jacket potato with cheese and beans and asked young girl serving if got salad with it, she wasn't sure but then said yes so I ordered potato, cheese with salad and latte.I wasn't offered half price discount from the government due to them not knowing it was applicable. The food when it arrived was very basic, potato was microwaved and not particularly great, some grated cheese and hardly any salad. On top of that the latte was in a small mug and was machine made and was very milky and didn't taste like latte.Overall not worth the £8.20 paid for it. The table surface was very sticky too and I noticed the owner giving staff instructions and keeping an eye on them but he should train them properly and leave them to it.Sorry this place doesn't cut the mustard and needs to improve its quality, quantity and customer service.

The worst family breakfast experience ever!! The owner served us and we changed a couple of breakfast items on the list as I’ve always done at any cafe or restaurant and never been an issue.Then when the breakfasts came out, mine was correct and the other person was still missing a sausage, so the owner came over to us and we said we was still missing one sausage.. instead of. Saying sorry I’ll just go get one for you...the owner tried to take the extra sausage off the correct plate and put it on the other plate that was missing one! I said don’t touch my food with a disgrace look on my face! The chef came back with 2 hash browns and an egg??!... this is not what we asked for after just saying again we asked for a sausage. The chef said “be quiet” as though we didn’t say a sausage, the owner came over shouting his head off saying your all banned!! Get out of my shop!! We was so shocked and even the girls behind the counter was shaking there heads at the manager agreeing this was bang out of order!! Because of his shouting and swearing he upset a 4year old boy And the mother was so disgraced of this experience she started shouting back because the owner had just upset the little boy telling us to get out of my shop whilst the little boy started eating his breakfast. You say we are banned from your shop! Guess what, we will never be returning to your shop ever again and everyone we know locally are disgusted with the owner’s behaviour in front of a little boy!!!! This place is a nice cafe with plenty of food choice for breakfast and lunch. There are plenty of places to sit, and the place is nice to meet up and have a chat if you want to sit down and take a rest with a bite to eat. Will be visiting again.

Great food and friendly welcoming staff

Visited just before lunch today for a half term treat. The sausages tasted strange. 2 of us left them but my teenage daughter ate them. She felt ill shortly after and was sick in the street an hour later. The other person who ate with us called later to say they had an upset stomach. Never again!

Been coming to the Castle for many years and I'm never disappointed, foods always cooked thoroughly, prices are reasonable, clean and staff are always friendly and helpful, to be honest I cant find any faults.

i had never been to this cafe before so gave it a try i wish i hadn't bothered i ordered my food along with my family and told him what we wanted paid and sat down the food came 2 out the 3 meals was wrong i told him off this issue and went of to change it as you would expect for him to return with less items on the plates this owner start to raise his voice at at me i ask him very politely not to raise his voice at me he (the owner) lost it started shouting at me and my partner telling us we are wrong and he is right so my partner said that we would like our money back ? we was told in so many words was told you can have your $*&%$*$ money back and told never to come back and that we was not welcome with some strong words from the owner i got my money back by the way this happened in front of 15- 20 people shocking we then left why he was still shouting insults to us also the place is not clean dust everywhere sauce bottles was caked in old sauce dirty tables and it says its got a hygiene rating of 5 more like a 2 i will not return and advice others not to there are other places in hinckley that have better customer service and better food and is clean

We decided to pop in here to have breakfast. The place wasn't busy with only a handful of tables with people sat at. We sat down and had a look at the menu and noticed that the menu was slightly different from the large ones that they have on the windows. I went up and ordered a pot of tea which was only small but was reasonably cheap at £1.50 and I also order the 'all day breakfast'. This was two bacon, beans, fried egg, chips and fried bread. The food wasn't too bad it was ok for a cafe.There are a lot of cooked breakfast options which only have a slight variation with what is in it which is confusing and would be better if there was on 3/4 options. Overall the staff were ok, the place seemed clean, it could be more inviting especially looking at the place from outside. the food was ok for cafe standard nothing special really. The tea was ok, a bigger pot might be good or a pot of hot water along side to top up the tea pot. Unsure to recommend or not

Nothing amazing but the food is good and the atmosphere is decent, happy to eat here again some day.

Popular cafe with friendly staff. Food is generous and tasty for the relatively low cost, all freshly prepared to order. Many "cafe food" items on the menu, so something for everyone. More seating around the back than can be seen from the road, with an outdoor patio area too. Would eat at again.
