The best restaurants serving Indian food in Uttlesford East of England

The food was excellent - very different from the standard UK version of an "Indian curry". The presentation was also excellent, as was the value for money. They were very quiet (Sunday evening) and the owner who served us the whole time we were there was disappointed that more of the local population don't eat there, rather than the "UK Indian" round the corner which was, we were told, often very busy despite serving poor food (his description). In fact, he told us quite a lot during the meal with family and didn't seem to get the messages that we didn't really want him to be chatting to us the whole time we were there - we wanted to talk to our family, not him. If this is his normal bonhomie, perhaps he could look inwards to wonder if that might be what is putting people off coming to his lovely restaurant? We will certainly think twice about coming again if we have to listen to him all evening.

Really lovely meal at the Balti Spice! Staying at Stansted before flying so booked a meal here; the food was great (best naan bread I’ve ever had!) and the service was excellent! Would recommend to anyone in the area looking for a good quality Indian meal!

Had a gluten free base pizza which was deliciously made and staff really friendly and overall great food. Highly recommend 😁

Myself and my wife have eaten here once a week for the last year and will continue to do so, the food is amazing, the staff are faultless and friendly even when its busy! Highly recommended! The best place in Essex for a curry!

I don't leave bad reviews, I am always as fair as I can be and give businesses every opportunity to make things right, but Bombay Butler wasn't interested once they had my money. My Bombay Byriani arrived with no lamb inside and 3 tiny pieces of chicken. It was also cold. I rang them and explained calmly that I didn't receive what I ordered. They said, no worries, come in and we'll sort it out. I explained I was at the airport with no means to get to them. They said, well there is nothing we can do and hung up. Here's a little tip. You could have delivered me a lamb skewer. I was 2 miles away. It would have cost your business £10 to put right. You already had £17 of my money. If you want a successful business, it is moments like that which make the difference. Karma is real. You might also want to improve the quality of your mango chutney, it looked the colour of something that came out of Chernobyl. However, I doubt you will do that because the boss is obviously more interested in short term bean-counting than long term profitability. Good luck Bombay Butler, with that guy at the helm you are gonna need it

We highly recommend Raj. The food is delicious. It always arrives piping hot. The delivery driver is friendly and always smiling.

We use India Villa regularly for the Sunday Buffet and also for take away. We love the food and really enjoy going there. Last Sunday 23rd February however we had booked a table for 6 - then increased the booking to 8 guests. our table was booked for 1pm and we arrived on the dot! the restaurant was totally empty apart from us. We were shown to our seats by a new member of staff who was rather annoying with his rush rush approach and his 'London Boy' accent. We had only been seated for 5 minutes when he came and told us to go get our buffet as he is closing at 2pm? I said the Sunday Buffett usually runs through to 3pm? his answer: "not today it don't!" We hadn't even received our first drink! all through the meal he was hovering and making silly comments (trying to be funny - which he wasn't). We had no time to order a dessert or coffee because at 1.45 he was at the table AGAIN beginning to clear our plates - some of us were still eating. He totally spoiled the family get together we were all looking forward to, and if on my next visit to India Villa I spot him waiting on tables we will immediately leave. What a shame - its usually so lovely.

Waited two hours for delivery, after several attempts to ring to find out where our order is i finally got through. I was told it was on the pass. 20 min later and still no sign of my order. We will not be bothering to order from here again.

Tried to refuse to serve tap water.

The food was delicious, there was 11 of us and not a single complaint about the food or service , my mum who was convinced that she does not like Indian food has now been converted. The staff were happy and polite. We will return.

Service was at their leisure the food was nothing to shout about the only thing going for it was that the food reasonably priced but not the drinks!!!!

We had the tandoori mix grill it was lovely great service as well would definitely recommended

Good option getting off the train at 10.30 to pick up supplies for a late supper. A good house biryani.

Ordered a takeaway and I ordered lamb rogan - it was so tender and delicious things have improved no end - will definitely order again

Place was empty I was new to area went in ordered 2 fish and chips They had screens up (covid screens) so went to pay with card rude lady just said “ain’t you got cash” Chips were under cooked and still hard but fish ok Won’t go back again
