Raj Mahal in Uttlesford

Service was at their leisure the food was nothing to shout about the only thing going for it was that the food reasonably priced but not the drinks!!!!

Me and a group of three others came into the restaurant and we are asked whether we would like poppadums. I said yes, but I never got them. Secondly, one of us asked a member of the waiting staff how long our food was going to be as we had to leave shortly, to which he replied rudely “Can’t you see that there are lots of people in this restaurant?” (there were probably about six or seven tables.) When the food did arrive (I ordered a butter chicken and pilau rice) the butter chicken was in a sweet and rather sickly sauce, and whilst the rice was well made, it leaves no excuse for an hour long wait accompanied by a rude waiter who was standing behind the bar vaping.

Me and my wife visited this evening for a dinner treat on arrival we had to get the attention of whom we assumed works the as he was wearing a baseball cap tshirt and jeans no identification he took us to a table from what was anyone off the empty ones as no one else was in at 730pm I politely asked him about draft beers and got a abruptly response no its bottles I then asked for a bottle of wine for my wife before I could ask for anything else he walked off came back with the win I then said could I get a jack Daniel and coke please he made some comment to which I responded to was im a paying customer can I speak with the owner from which he responded with I am the fu***ng owner you don't like it f**koff we obviously lefted in extreme shock no wonder no one else was in there what a extremely rude guy and I advise is to avoid this place like the plague!!!!!!!!!!

We have a curry from here once a month, keep forgetting how good it is, This is now definitely our favourite, can recommend Razza special and most everything we have had , even the pilau rice is exceptionally. Good quality ingredients, with good chef results in good food 10/10 keep up the good work Guys

Don’t bother ordering a take away delivery. Was meant to be 45 mins, actually arrived 2 hours later with no apology whatsoever. When I called to ask where my food was they just said they were busy and hung up on me! Disgraceful service!

Just picked up and enjoyed a superb meal - mango chicken, Lahori Lamb (amazing ginger vibe) and a sumptuous cauliflower bhaji. This place has picked up and is producing some great food. Well done, guys.

Enjoyed a fantastic meal at the Razza. The quality of the food was exceptional - we ate a mixed seafood starter and for main a mixed seafood curry with 'special' king prawns . I know from experience the meat and vegetarian dishes are as equally good.The chef and staff consistently produce amazing food and are really helpful in finding you that special dish - so give it a go!

We used to visit the Indian regularly until changed hand a few years ago. Back in 2016 when we last went the food was good but toilets bad. Went New Year’s Eve 2019 and had heard that had changed hands twice since out last visit so thought would give another chance. When we arrived the decor looked the same as before but that may be as it is. The food was very nice and we both enjoyed our meals. The staff were attentive without being over powering and a pleasant meal. Then it went down hill when my husband went to the toilet. Very grubby, tiles missing, taps not secured and just going round and soap dispenser off of the wall. They were in a poor state. I understand that when building a business you can not do all at the start but hygiene in paramount. If the toilets had been clean if it dated then would have given a five star and would have returned again. Shame as the food is excellent

A very welcoming place for a family to have a lovely meal all staff are very friendly and helpful the food is out of this world and the food is always consistently good

We eat regularly at the Razza and are never disappointed. The last owner let it go downhill but new management have turned it around brilliantly. Great choice of food, they will also modify any dish if you ask and the service is always great especially form the ever smiling Nas. Would recommend to anyone.

went on a wednesday night so the resturant was not busy but had an excellent meal and the service was great,food very competitively priced and very tasty, will definatley go back and try other dishes

It was clear there was a problem tonight as we waited an hour for our food without any member of staff trying to comfort us and let us know there was an issue, instead of closing the doors and stopping the public coming in, they filled up the whole restaurant, luckily we ordered before all these people and our food was finally brought out after I prompted the waiter that we had been waiting for an hour. I can’t say it’s was the best curry I’ve had but previous reviews suggest there was just a problem tonight. They didn’t handle the problem well at all, won’t be visiting again wasn’t it’s tainted now, I didn’t want to pay but another member of the party insisted as I didn’t agree to pay for the service I wasn’t provided.

First time trying Razza under new ownership . Really enjoyed the food. Ordered two different lamb dishes paneer sag. Lovely. Most definitely try again.

Came with friends and was amazed by the service and delicious flavoursome food. The manager did us a dish off the menu which was stunning. Amazing friendly funny staff. Will return and highly recommended.

Excellent food and very friendly service. We’ve been here on a number of occasions and have always had a great meal. Would particularly recommend the tandoori king prawn, chicken Shashlik, chicken korai and Martin special. We will be back again.

We returned after having a bad experience with previous owners and were glad we did.

It was my first curry but it was amazing and mouthwatering. You have a choice of your meat. I loved it! I had chicken tikka masala oh and I am not a big fan of popadoms.I am only 9.

So many Indian restaurant to choose from but so few that are actually really good.

As always, consistently high quality food. Great service and attentive staff. Great aroma greets you as you enter as does a welcome handshake. The staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome and already booked to go back Christmas Eve. Beer could be cheaper but that’s life I guess. Great to take friends to and you won’t be disappointed (and they’ll be impressed).

Great restaurant in Felsted. I loved the decor and the outside building. Food was spot on and cooked just how I asked.

Came to Razza for my daughters birthday today and absolutely loved the new menu. We had a warm and friendly welcome from the staff and they was extremely helpful.

Although admittedly we were in a large group, service was extremely slow. Food was quite average and would probably go elsewhere rather than return here.

Fuimos con unos amigos y tenía un bebé muy joven con nosotros, el personal era muy servicial y amable. El era un gran número de platos en el menú, y cada uno de nosotros (6) tenía algo diferente y a todos nos pareció que la comida era de un alto estándar.

We had heard rave reviews from people about this resultant but actually it's just average and there are much better places around mid Essex . Food ok , nothing special , service ok . To be honest I wouldn't go back .

It was our first visit to Razza tonight and thank goodness we came! The food was delicious and the atmosphere great! Service was fantastic and staff were very friendly!! We will definitely be coming back!!

Only had takeaways from here , good food could improve flavours in some currys , notice theres not much atmosphere when i have been to collect our food , doesnt appeal for a sit down meal

I live in nearby in nearby Dunmow and I've tried them all in town. I find them average. I was recommended to Razak and was not disappointed. Restaurant is lovely, food excellent very polite and welcoming. Highly recommended. Only negative is they don't deliver.

The food is always amazing at Razza, the staff are friendly and always attentive. Great place to take the kids too. It's one of my favorite places to go for a Indian meal.

Food very good and all arrived presented nice although when Bill come surprised to be charged for the chutney that come with poppodums. Hubby went to toilets and he said not what you would have expected. Floors sticky and doors dirty

Very good meal except for the nan bread which was heavy and undercooked. Even so, I would recommend the place because the food was definitely better than anything else I’ve ever tasted in Essex and the restaurant a pleasant place in which to dine. Excellent staff and service.

We have not been here for a while as it used to be good but had become complacent and the service was very poor (close to Felsted School, so guaranteed take-away and dining custom from teachers and pupils every night of the week - much like the local Chinese, which is terrible).A definite return to form, however after our visit this weekend. A good menu and wine list, excellent sauces for the poppadoms, very good and friendly service and, above all, very tasty starter and main courses.It's been refurbished as well, which it needed (although the toilet areas could also do with painting, but that's a minor issue).So, back on form and I will definitely return again.

Great Indian with great dishes that always taste good. Hard to find an Indian that delivers good selection of dishes that have individual tastes like they should have. Sit in or takeaway pickup. Both good.

I had heard some bad things about this place so I really wasn't sure what to expect but I love this place! The food is fabulous, staff are lovely and opening hours are way more sensible then other local restaurants. Mega downside is that they don't do deliveries but then if they did I would be eating the stuff for breakfast. If you're local definitely give it a try.

Great food, nice ambience and friendly attentive staff.My comment about the price is more to do with the fact that, unlike in a classic restaurant when you have starter, main and possibly dessert, it works out cheaper than in an Indian restaurant where you have a bit of this and a bit of that.... My companion and I shared two mains, a naan, a dhal, a rice, 3 chipatis, I had a wine and she two cokes and with a 10 percent tip it came to over fifty pounds! Just be aware of how the price creeps up. The mains had only about 5 small pieces of meat in each of them!

I had booked for about 12 people for my birthday. I chose it because it was a convenient location but ended up having a good night. Despite the decor being overly orange, it make a change from the usual dark red, dingy Indian restaurants which exist. During the serving of the main meal, one dish got forgotten, but was soon on the table. I think the waiters did a good job of dealing with people changing their minds etc. I particularly enjoyed my mum's dish of chicken with lemon and honey (can't remember the name) and would go again just to eat that. All in all a good night out.

Probably the best curry I've ever had hence why we visit regularly. Fabulous staff and unique cuisine, all tastes catered for and staff happy to talk you through your choice. Highly recommended.

If you like beautiful Indian food then look no further, the extensive menu will cater for all tastes and I guarantee you will enjoy whatever you choose.We went out for a family meal with friends, 14 people in total, oldest being 64 and youngest being 8. Usually its a bit chaotic but Miah the manager saw to each and every one of us without fuss, he was incredibly polite, patient and ensured our needs were met. Drinks were always offered when they were almost finished ao we didn't have to try and get anybody's attention which is always nice.We had starter and main course followed by desert, each course was eaten with nothing left behind, just empty dishes and plates which is a true testament to just how good the food was, the flavours and textures were outstanding.The staff were very attentive and will gladly chat to you if you so wish without being intrusive, really friendly people.All in all we had a lovely evening with absolutely splendid food.If you decide to visit Felsted which is a pretty village in itself I highly recommend you try Razza (formerly Raj Mahal)

We have eaten here twice so far and on both occasions ordered different meals, I am pleased to say that we were not disappointed with the meal or the service. The only negative point was that on ordering wine the Bottle arrived already opened on each occasion so I am not sure if the wine I had was as stated on the bottle. In future I will be asking for my wine to be served to me before it is opened. Great food and very friendly staff.

We visited on a Saturday evening and the restaurant was packed and buzzing with a very lively atmosphere and had a very enjoyable evening. The service was very good and attentive and our food was served piping hot and delicious. It was also clear that many of the diners were regular customers which speaks for itself.

I have not been to this restaurant since just before Christmas and will now make sure I go back at least once every month, the food is superb and it has one of the most extensive menus I have ever come across, including a number of fish dishes. The menu contains food from all over India.Great staff excellent food served in a beautiful building, can't fault it.

We have been here a few times recently and the food is generally very good with the service to match. Would recommend trying the Razza platter starter or the tikka salmon starter, both really good!

Hadn't been to the Razza (as it is now known) since being renamed from Raj Mahal, but visited it last week. The food was delicious, served in a pleasant atmosphere. Plenty of choice on the menu from very hot to milder curries as well as a good selection of rices and side dishes. The service was also excellent. Would definately visit again.xcellent.

Name has been Razza for this restaurant for the last 3 years that I visited Felsted.I had the lamb chops as a starter and the quality and taste was exactly what I expected. The salad that accompanied the chops were all fresh and extremely tasty with a very good mint sauce.The mains were very strong curries namely a Chicken Garlic Chilli Mossalla and a South Indian Lamb served with vegetables in the form of Cauliflower Bhaji, Sag Paneer and Brocolli Bhaji. It was excellent.The Cobras on tap were cold and fresh.The best Indian restaurant in the UK according to me!

Grange Farm & Dunmow Running club had a great Xmas Party for 50 attendees in December. It may have been a bit of a shock seeing 50 people in "Heaven & Hell" fancy dress. Thanks guys for great food and evening!

Very good food with good selection we have been here a few times now, the service is good the owner is always around to ensure clients are enjoying the food, we have their special and the kids love the chicken curry. The ambiance is a bit strange as in converted church .Good food and good selection also noticed a lot of locals get take always from the place.

Whilst staying in the area we visited Razza and had a great evening. The food and service was excellent and the décor is really good as well. Would recommend this restaurant wholeheartedly.

Have been here now several times as the atmosphere is very nice and the staff are very attentive. The food is excellent and the portions sufficient. All in all, it is a nice restaurant for a special night in this part of Essex.Had been passing this place for years, without realising that it is an Indian restaurant, you couldn't tell from the facade outside. It is a former church converted in to this great restaurant.What I liked best was their reluctance to use artifial food colours, unlike many other Indian restaurants. A curry should never be yellow or red!

OK so everyone has their favourite restaurant for Indian based cuisine, this is ours. This wasn't a default choice. After moving to the area from the south of the county a few years earlier it took us some time to settle on a restaurant of our liking.One of the key motivators for us is flavour. Varying degrees of hot aren't the hallmark of an extensive menu. The flavours in the dishes of this restaurant are varied and exiting. There is a real difference in the food at this restaurant and I would recommend a visit without hesitation.After 14 years of using this restaurant more or less every week I am pleased to see the original management team back in the driving seat and the standards as high as ever.

After hearing Mr Miah is back in the area my wife and I decided to go and eat at Razza,I have to say the food is excellent and works are very friendly.

The management changed in 2013 and since then the food has been excellent. The layout of the interior has been much improved.

This place has got to be visited. Its an old chapel beautifully decorated. The staff are extremely polite and superbly attired. The food is the best we have tried for a long time. We will definitely go back, as good Indian restaurants are hard to find locally and we have tried most.

We eat here approximately 6 times a year and i have to say that the food is always good and the staff always remember you and are very friendly.

The name has changed, I am sorry unable to remember its name, but it is in an old Chapel.Very friendly welcome, clean and a strange setting.Chicken chat was a let down, little spice but well cooked.Main course was excellent, Garlic chili chicken vindaloo, wirk chick peas (madras spices) rice and Naan.Food was very well cooked, with 2 pints of Cobra £28.00. Curry is no longer a cheap meal!

Live so close yet had never been some friends in village suggested we tried it with them, service and food excellent. Second time we went owner was working and experience was even better, you don't have to stick to menu just tell them what you fancy and all food is cooked fresh and very good quality, shame its not more popular as seems empty but they do a roaring trade in take always.Definitly would recommend

We arrived late at 10 o'clock and found the restaurant quite empty our fears were Unfounded when we sat down to excellent service and enjoyed a wonderful meal,It's the first time I've eaten in this restaurant and I will be returning.

My expectations weren't high given the reviews on this site however we decided to have a lazy Friday so popped in to order a takeaway on the way home from work. We've just eaten it and it was delicious. We had the Razza platter to start, a monk fish jalfrezi and a lamb saag, with pilau rice and garlic naan. We had 2 kingfishers whilst waiting for the order to be cooked and it all came to £40 which I thought was reasonable, especially given how tasty it was!The restaurant name on the menu is Razza so I don't know if It has changed hands. Based on our food tonight, the good service we received and the friendliness of the staff we will be back to eat in in the not too distant future.

We thought we'd give Raj Mahal one more try with a takeaway, after some pretty indifferent meals. What a mistake. We ordered four different main dishes but three of them looked and tasted the same - albeit different meat in one. They were three dishes of sweet gloop that would have been on the sweet side even for a pudding. The fourth dish was far too salty and almost as disappointing. The prices aren't cheap and there are plenty of better places to eat.

There aren't too many Indian's in the local area unless you want to drive 15-20 mins so this place is handy. The restaurant itself is a converted chapel. This seems a bit of an odd setting for an indian restaurant. I once had the most red chicken tikka massala here which although dayglo in colour was pretty acceptable. The staff were attentive and polite. I think it survives because it is close to the Prep school and many of the older boarders pop in for a drink and a take away. I think the takeaway food is just ordinary and I didn't feel it was expensive just regular prices. Don't write this place off. Worth a try if you are visiting the area.

Had a meal last year. Had an outstanding Elvis Tribute called Dave Harley who was fabulous. But was told it was a setmeal but not what it was even when it came to the table. The food was average. The service was slow and unfriendly and bill was expensive. Recently went there for a takeaway. Arrived 30 minutes later as advised. And still had to wait 20 more minutes without even a sorry or complimentary drink. Food once again was average. This is my local restaurant. It's so disappointing.

This place has gone massively down hill, the food is terrible, reheated and almost guaranteed to make ypu feel awful not to mention ripped off.we have given it too many chances now so will be doing what most people do now and go to the raj of india in rayne

One of the most expensive restaurants around which has seen its best days. Most residents now don't eat here anymore and prefer to travel to Raj at Rayne.Shame really as was good prior to the owner bought another restaurant in London and now spends all of his time there...

A quiet Monday evening. No, make that a moribund Monday. I was the only customer in a large restaurant. No one came in, no one went out. Food served exceptionally quickly - had all the hallmarks of a dish which had been standing about and then microwaved. I have no idea if that was the case - it just seemed like it.. To make Indian style food devoid of taste is quite an achievement. Not unpleasant, just tasteless.
