You're in Saffron Walden and 4 beers deep, a wave of hunger overflows your senses. All of the sudden, a quaint, easy and peaceful restaurant appears across the road from the last pub. You're first welcomed excitedly by Raj, Aman, Ahnaf who of course like many Indian places welcome you excitedly. However, what these people offer is far better than your average experience. The welcoming these three offered, promised nothing less than the best Indian culture experience I have had in an England based restaurant. The shrimp Dopiaza was exquisite when paired with onion rice. The added benefit of a group allowed more options, all of which was top tier curry for the price. I highly recommend Raj, Aman and Ahnaf. They made my visit much warmer and I felt incredibly welcomed.

If I could give more stars for service I would. The gentleman who served us was extremely helpful when my friend was describing to him what I was that she fancied that wasn't on the menu, he broke it down, listened and explained what they could make and it was perfect 👌 Thank you! A superb Indian restaurant with a delicious menu and warm and friendly staff providing a great service. Particular mention to Sayed who makes sure that you have a wonderful time. Very difficult to pick a favourite dish, but if you’re holding my feet to the tandoor then I would say the lamb Nihari.

Take-away disappointing, very oily sauce with little authentic flavours. Lamb was too tough to eat. Will not be returning.

The food was very good and the waiting staff were really on the ball, hats off to them. I've marked this as 1 star because on page one of the menu, in large bold text, it says that a COMPULSORY service charge of 10% will be added to the bill. Not a great message. Made worse when I was told by the waiter when paying the bill that the staff don't actually get any tips. If true, it's an outrageous practise and I won't be returning. M

Another great evening @ Indigo. Food consistently good from visit to visit and as always we were well looked after by Sayid and the team.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Indigo Indian restaurant and was thoroughly impressed. The lamb nihari was absolutely delicious, rich in flavour and perfectly cooked. The waiter, Arman, was exceptionally attentive and made our dining experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this place for authentic Indian cuisine and excellent service.

First time in the area and stopped in on Monday as it was nearly the only place open. Was not disappointed as the staff were very welcoming and friendly. The food was very good and if we happened to live nearby I would certainly return.

I was quite disappointed really. It wasn't busy but we were not very well attended to, and not terribly cheerfully. The food was OK, but not special and I wouldn't go back. They also add a compulsory 10% service charge, which I totally disagree with, we always leave tips for good service and resent it being taken automatically.

As foreigners ordered takeaway here and whilst in a holiday cottage the driver managed to find us. Good service and food was delicious and warm when it arrived. A plus as well, delivery ahead of schedule.

I was in Saffron Walden to meet a friend and we decided on dinner. Very much a traditional Indian restaurant. Service was polite and efficient. Prices were reasonable. I had chicken shashlick and my friend lamb passanda. My shashlick was great it came with a salad, yogurt sauce and I ordered a naan. My first olive in an indian restaurant with the salad! I love olives. It was exactly what it sets out to be, Slightly surprised in an affluent place like SW that a more contemporary approach to Indian food isn't on the menu. However there is nothing wrong with old school and I'd happily eat there again.

Just flew into Stansted on our way home and stopped for a meal in Saffron Walden. This place was brilliant, the service, the food and restaurant were fantastic and well worth a visit. We shall be coming again when next in the area.

Ordered at 17:30 food wasn’t delivered until 19:10 I was notified it was out for delivery at 18:35. Food was pretty much cold and really not enjoyable. Shame

I cannot say enough good things about this place. The chutneys and Curries are so fresh and delicious. The chicken Jalfrezi is my favourite, always prepared with fresh peppers and tomato. But beyond the food, the service is always top notch. Sayiid and his crew make a point to getting to know their return customers and are super attentive. Best curry in Saffron Walden hands down.

The food here is absolutely delicious, there is no doubt. Sayed who serves us went above and beyond as per usual. Can’t recommend enough. Even buzzing on a Wednesday night and that’s telling enough. Get the prawn pathia if you can handle your spice!

Great food, great service. I have been here multiple times now and have been well looked after. I have recommended this place to friend and family. I would also like to say the butter chicken is amazing!!

Without doubt the best Indian restaurant in the area. Always great quality food with waiting staff who are friendly, ready to help with food choices and curries that actually taste different to each other, rather than an anglicised version. It doesnt matter how long between visits, Sayeed and the other waiting staff always remember you and never disappoint.

Have eaten in the restaurant several times. This takeaway was no where near the restaurant standard. The food was so not hot it had to be microwaved. Very disappointing as was a bday meal

Honestly the food was really good when it opened but its gone downhill. I ordered a king prawn biryani and never again. It was just chopped up king prawn not whole and I had some king prawn and I could tell it want cooked right it made me gagg hard to swallow. Honestly go to the Yuva in Debden so much better they don't deliver but the quality of their food is amazing.

I eat here once a week as I’m a massive fan of a lamb madras. Since Indigo opened I’ve never had a bad meal from them either in the restaurant or takeaway. The restaurant inside is clean and the staff are very friendly. I would highly recommend going to Indigo as I can’t fault the place. Well done to everyone at Indigo

Indigo in my opinion, up until now, was the best curry house in saffron Walden. But it seems their crown is slipping fast. Curry was full of grease and extremely watery. Bombay aloo was also full of grease. This is the second time in 2 weeks and I have to say I now won't be returning.

The waiter was rude, smug and was happy to serve me a curry with gluten in after being told I had an intolerance. The food took two hours to arrive and was adequate when it arrived - the only saving grace was that food previously had there was enjoyable. We won’t go back based on this experience.

We ate here on Friday evening, admittedly a busy time on the run up to Christmas but the service was beyond terrible. We waited 30 minutes to get our drinks, then only half of them came out, we had to ask twice more before they all arrived. Then it came to ordering… my partner likes to have a Korma curry but for spice to be added. We were told no because it would upset her stomach. We explained that we know it’s not normal but it’s what she always orders and it doesn’t affect her, they said no incase it gave her a bad stomach. I explained that everyone who attends a curry house has a level of expectation that if they order a hot curry it may reflect on their digestive output the following day. The man argued and patronised for about five minutes In the end she ordered a mild curry with a side of Vindaloo sauce and made her own (I can report she suffered no issues). It’s ridiculous that they will serve a Farll curry but not a spicy korma… Then… despite being so concerned about our stomach welfare a staff member made my brother in law hand out plates, one of which was so hot it scalded his hand. We waited, and waited and waited an hour and 40 minutes later we finally all received our food minutes before we were about to walk out and go to the chippy. I asked to see the manager and was pointed towards him… apparently he was too important to come to our table and apologise and listen to our complaint. I stood for 5 minutes waiting in a queue of other complaining patrons before he got to me. He said he would remove the service charge and take money off the bill which he didn’t. The food was nice but the excessive wait, poor service and bad manners means me and my party of 9 will not return.

They couldn’t find our house so had to go out in the rain to find them.

Absolutely dreadful. We ordered takeaway to collect at 6.20pm and it was not ready until 7.10 pm. No apology from staff. After a 5 min drive home the food was barely warm. Thick layer of oil on the dishes and the king prawn starter was hard and looked like it had been cooked months ago. The onion Bhajis were rock hard too. Will never use again.

When Indigo took over and first opened, food and service was very good. Unfortunately, as is often the case, as time has passed the quality of the food has gone down. Given the size of Saffron Walden it is a shame that there is not a good quality Indian restaurant in the town.

Generally very good curry. Only used take away so far. Had a couple of issues where its been delivered way too early against what we'd asked for and they have missed the odd thing off, but the food is great

We ordered a takeaway delivery for nine separate curry dishes as we were having friends round. We ordered early for a prompt 8 pm delivery. We were warned that as it was quite a large order that it may be slightly later than 8. The food turned up at 8, was lovely and hot and absolutely delicious. Complimentary poppadums and wine included. Excellent service.

I didn't visit on this occasion but called an order through. First ever time and they messed up a couple of years ago when first opened. Didn't offer a refund or replacement. Now the place seems to be established and it's much better dining in. I've since had several deliveries from here, stating I am type 1 diabetic so to cook dish without sugar. I won't order through just eat or those companies as I need to make sure what I am eating is correct and I know how much insulin is required. Last night I ordered and three times stressed no sugar in my dansak dish (I have substitute sweeter at home.. He relayed it over the phone to me twice. No sugar!! When I tasted a little before adding my substitute it was VERY SWEET. I called to ask if it was sugar. After speaking to the chef, I was informed it contained just a small amount. But from someone that don't do sugar it was a good fair amount. My partner tried it and he the same. What am I to do as I've already taken my insulin for the dish, so need to eat at least some!! Quick Google I did my best to calculate my insulin needs. Unfortunately it was incorrect and I had quite a scary hypo which I corrected with fast acting insulin. My point to them on the phone was if I said NO to something that is a dietary requirement which was VERY clear, always has been then why go ahead and ignore the requirements. Personally I would have liked a refund or dish sent out again. But was offered a discount once again on next order....yer right. I would have emailed them directly with this. In a nut shell it could have led to bad consequences. However if you view the website it comes back with this. See photo and spurs you on to just eat. If I had been treated with a little dignity over this complaint or been able to email direct I would have done. But unfortunately it's not the case. Their food is usually great but their customer service and service skills when dining in need to be looked at pronto or they won't be there much longer

Had our first take away from here on a Friday night. Arrived within the hour and the food was excellent. Still piping hot and a couple of free chabattis. Great meal 👍

The food was lovely but the service was terrible waited over a hour for mains loads of staff but no organisation one waiter was taking our food order and then some customers came in and the waiter left us to seat them, very rude, the food is lovely but will not be going back due to the massive wait time, rudeness and lack of organisation
