Bombay Butler in Uttlesford

This indian restaurant has been refurbished but they have not updated their photos on their website. Attentive service throughout our visit. The menu is extensive with very reasonble prices and people enjoyed their food.

I booked a table for 2 at 6pm on Saturday. From the moment we say down we were rushed to order and eat our food. At one point the waiter was standing over us asking if we were ready for the bill, we hadn't even finished eating !! We felt extremely uncomfortable and left as quickly as we could. Good food, terrible service !

This is my second review of this restaurant, I like the service and the cleanliness, style of the restaurant but The update is the portions seem to be getting smaller and smaller and smaller for the price they charge mainly the curries they put an unreasonable size of meat and they seem surprised when we phone up to complain.

We live in Spain and BB is always our first call when we come to UK The food is always superb and fresh and the owner and staff are delightful Great value but it is about the food 🥘

Fantastic authentic curries. Freshly made requested shami kebab which wasn’t on the menu. Fluffy nan bread. Lovely helpful staff Great value. . Our first port of call when we are in the area. 10/10

Great food. After 30 years, Abdul knows what his customers like and never fails to turn out tasty food. No fancy claims, he lets his food do the talking. His eat in menu for less than 15 quid for starter, main side and rice or bread is brilliant value and of such generous portions, I ended up with a doggy bag! No Emperor's clothing worn here. Best curry house in Stansted. Had another meal there last night perfect as usual. Abdul's team have the art of curry sorted. Don't even think of eating elsewhere!

Very pleasant restaurant, well run, great food. Much bigger inside than you think!

I ordered a lamb vindaloo and a lamb rogon Josh. In both dishes the lamb was tough and chewy. The restaurant did offer chicken replacements which my wife accepted but it was rather too late. We were both very disappointed and it spoiled our evening. We also had the feeling that they were keen to give us the bill as soon as possible to give them a spare table on a busy evening

First time ordering from Bombay Butler and i wasn’t disappointed, good size portions and really good curry definitely be ordering from here again!

Booked a table as half way point to meet a friend for dinner. Was not advised of any time limitations and when we arrived we were told that the table had an hour and a half limit before we needed to leave- the waiter then hovered throughout the evening and as soon as we finished (literally) he swooped over and removed our plates - I felt very rushed eating my dinner and left some as I didn’t feel had had time to enjoy the food. My friend and I then asked for hot drinks ( we had about 10 minutes) and were told no as they needed the table. Customer service was absolutely terrible! If you want a nice meal with a good atmosphere and a level of customer service do NOT come here. Will not be returning - very disappointing. The staff did not even comment as we left and ignored us . I have been here before with a large group and will also be telling friends not to return as our experience was so bad- we ended up in the pub next door which thankfully was really nice!

Very disappointed. Me and a friend booked at table , we both travelled over an hour to get here as a half way point for a longer overdue catch up . We were told we could only have the table for 1.5 hours which nobody told us over the phone at the time of booking. Our food did not come till 7.15 but they wanted us to leave at 8pm . We asked for a tea and coffee at 7.50pm and were told no as we needed to leave in 10 mins . They then came over with the bill very quickly so we would leave in time . I would not recommend this place to anyone , very rude , please spend your money elsewhere where you are treated like a valued customer . I have never experienced such rudeness as a paying customer and will not be returning .

I don't know what the chef is thinking of. This restaurant used to serve excellent curries. Last week, I was served a samosa too hot to eat. Samosas are not hot, they should be moderately spicy. I had a Jalfrezi to follow, a dish which, as before, I found to be full of complex flavours, and medium hot, as expected. And then I accidently ate a hot chilli pepper buried in the Jalfrezi. It nearly made me ill, and I could eat no more. Why, chef, why? Clients ordering Indian meals know what level of heat they want, so don't mess about with it and serve chillies so string they are dangerous to those susceptible, buried in a medium heat dish. Please, sort it out, and obey the unspoken rules.

Very bland food which was surprising as we’ve been here several times before. We were rushed through our meal with hardly no time to draw breath between courses which was also really frustrating.£2.50 for a small glass of coke which is also ludicrous but deemed acceptable not only by Bombay Butler but the majority of restaurant outlets locally. Overall really disappointed, Sorry 😔

I eat in the restaurant a lot and love it there, so was worried that ordering a takeaway from there for the first time might ruin this relationship but I needn’t worry. Lovely food, kept at a good temperature, served by a really friendly delivery driver. The best of both worlds… the food I am familiar with but without the need to go out in the cold. I will return to the restaurant when the time is right but being able to get this food at home is a result. Thanks Bombay Butler. Delicious.

Hands down the best curry in Stansted. It has a great menu and it’s perfectly priced. They have a great value menu at all times but especially during the week where they have a fantastic set menu. The staff are always lovely and the service is great. The food is amazing and we’ve not have a bad meal here.

Had a rubbish experience here on Valentines day this year but have since been back for 2 takeaways, the food is immense, large portions, hot and oh my word so tasty, I will never ever think of going anywhere else for an indian (unless im in India) 10/10 without a doubt

Food has become very bland. Been coming here for a few years and last few times very disappointing. All dishes taste the same, no spices no salt or seasoning.

We always enjoy going here it's got a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere . The food is always good and never let's us down, been going there for years and we still enjoy it.

Delicious! They have an evening special for £13.50. The server recommended the Chicken Bhuna and the Tarka Dhal. Although they don't really pair together, individually, they were incredibly full of flavor and wonderful. The boneless chicken was tender, and the lentils of the Tarka Dhal were perfect. The service was top notch. I was even given a hot wet napkin at the end of my meal and a small piece of chocolate. Nice touches. The price is fair considering the portion size. Overall, the food and atmosphere was great!

Having eaten in some of central London's finest Indian restaurants, I can honestly say that the food at the Bombay Butler amounts to the best curry house for miles!! The menu has all the traditional favourites.. the onion bahjis are outstanding, as are Bombay potatoes. My favourite is the lamb cooked with spinach and my partner adores the spicy chicken tikka. Their set menus offer extraordinary value with no corners cut My kids grew up eating Abdul's food and measure all other places against the high standards set here. By far the best Indian in the village and miles around.

My love for a good old curry will always be my favourite food. Alway a regular customer at the Mountbatten (which sadly has closed down ) this place came up trumps for a great meal. Fast service, friendly staff, lovely tasty food. Def coming back

Lovely Indian, superb service and food

Originally booked at another Indian restaurant around the corner, didn’t like the look of the menu. After a very stressful and exhausting day travelling we really wanted a big, filling, hearty Indian meal and we got just that here at Bombay Butler. Staff were super accommodating - allowing us to order main meal sizes of sides. Do not hesitate to ask for alteration or a preference, they are happy to do whatever they can. FOOD WAS OUTSTANDING. My belly is full and I’m smiling. And so is my partner who is not easy to please. Amazing, friendly, courteous waiters. Johnny in particular is charming, helpful, and attentive. Unbelievable value as well. Bill could have been double and I would have happily paid that.

By far the best indian food i had have. Very good taste, not too spicy for european taste. Diner served quickly, friendly people and good prices. Worth a visit. Only downside is the outside of the area, it looked like the restaurant was closed.

For over 20 years this place has been superb. Food is excellent. Full stop. Good value for money as well.

Arrived last night at 6.40 for a Valentines meal (first meal out in ages) First couple in the restaurant, Waited 10 minutes for a bottle of wine (£32 for a chablis!) and some popadoms. Starters arrived after 45 minutes, they didnt have what I requested even though it was still on their menu (lamb chops) was told the lamb tikka was good so I gave it a try, what I received was pitiful, 5 pieces of overcooked lamb about the size of a pound coin, dry salad, no sauce and cost about a fiver so £1 a bite! husband had the alleged king prawn puree, small prawns no spice whatsover. These were taken away and then we waited and waited and waited....noticed other tables were receiving their starters and mains but still nothing for us...after another hour wait by which time it was nearly 9pm I got up and paid the bill for what we had already had, was told "your food wont be long now" but after 2 hours id lost my appetite for it and was really pissed off....woke up this morning bloody starving, wont be going back unfortunately even though Ive been told by so many that the food is incredible

Have been using this restaurant for years but no due to such bad customer service we will not return! Ordered a take away for one, as the rest of our party wanted Chinese from next door. Got home and we had somebody else’s order. Called the restaurant and they basically said tough, that it was our fault because the names of the two customers sound similar! We said not to worry (didn’t want the stress) as too far to go back and that we would just stretch our Chinese around a bit further but could we please have a credit note in the restaurant for next time we visited. The answer was NO and the manager (Abdul) was very rude. He just didn’t care at all that we had somebody with no dinner, that they had made the mistake of giving us the wrong order, or that we had paid more for the incorrect order! We were jobsmacked at the level of customer care. WILL NOT RETURN

Great little restaurant, the food was excellent and the staff were very welcoming. We had a set menu so not everything was available but the food was very tasty.

Again, every Indian we’ve been to include side salads, here they charged us £4.50 for two tiny plates of cucumber and tomato. £4.25 for a Coke too, you may as well go for a pint! Take your business elsewhere, unfortunately this place is run by crooks whom try to humiliate you in front of other guests.

Ristorante indiano a 10 minuti dall'aeroporto di Stansted. L'unico aperto fino alla 22:30 e scelto proprio pee questo motivo, in attesa del volo di un collega in ritardo. Location abbastanza interessante, all'interno continui rimando a quadri con bassorilievi e particolari della cultura Indiana. Il menu vario ma focalizzato su piatti molto speziati e piuttosto salati. Abbiamo preso un piatto di gamberi reali, uno starter con pane croccante e salse e una birra ipa Cobra molto buona.

Abdul, now helped by his son, continues to turn out excellent food. His fixed price dinners are tremendous value with quality products and generous portions. Don't believe the hype about neighbouring places. This restaurant is truly the only place for a proper ruby

I literally had the worst lamb balty ever it was pure oil and paste the meat was tough absolutely vile I'd make 10 times better myself,don't go,don't waist your money...,,; and forgot to mention the manager was arrogant and rude when I kindly suggested just to change the balty as it literally wasn't eatable!!!

The restaurant is well decorated and the staff professional and friendly. What let the restaurant down was the lack of spice in the food. I do realise that restaurants cater for their local client base and their tastebuds. I asked for a suggestion from their House Specials list that was relatively hot, Madras strength or a bit more. The Chicken dish that came up was well cooked, with good chicken, but was definitely not Madras strength, but very mild. My wife and son in law had The Chicken Balti Bhuna which they described as bland. For those that line taste in you curry order hotter than you normally would.

Ordered chicken biryani but it tasted like chicken pulav definitely wouldn't order again. The restaurant opening times mentioned until 11 pm but when asked if we could dine in the person suggested to get a take away instead as they didn't want to sit us. The chicken biryani was over priced and it didn't taste like biryani either. Bad service

We always come in here when we have a layover at Stansted. (Very easy with train from the airport, only 6 min.) The food is delicious and the service is great. We'll definitely continue coming back!

Ordered takeaway for 5 people. 4 main dishes, rice, sides and bread. None of the dishes had any flavour of any kind. Very disappointing as usually the food is good. Telephoned to give feedback and a rude response was given and the phone put down. I rang back and spoke to a Manager who apologised and said over 40 orders without any complaint but just said next time we ordered he will sort it out but did not take any name of numbers. Overall very poor experience.

Tried a delivery, order was missing items phoned to complain and the response was basically tough get it refunded from X and they hung up. Truly awful service and food is not much better

Have visited this excellent restaurant many times over the past few years and always found the service, staff and food excellent. Due to current mobility issues I am unable to visit at the moment. Thus, have been using their excellent takeaway service until fully mobile again and found the quality and quantity of food still 100%👍 Looking forward to being mobile again and returning to this ace eatery!

We went here for New Year’s Eve for the first time. The food was really good and even though the restaurant was full and a constant flow of takeaways, the service was excellent. We will definitely go again.

I checked the reviews for Indian restaurants near Stansted airport and the reviews were good. Dinner was very good, I had a lamb curry, rice and Dahl plus a non alcoholic drink and it came to £ 22. Service was fast, not surprising as there were not many customers sitting down but the takeaway side was extremely busy. I would go there again when I am in the area. Take time to walk around the village. It is very picturesque with some lovely old building and Mountfitchet Castle.

Always a tasty curry with speedy service

This really is the best place to eat curry. The staff are excellent, the food delicious. Tandoori dishes are sublime, I love the paneer tikka. Great breads, enormous portions... I often end up with a take out for another day. Whilst other restaurants can't make up their minds as to whether they're rustic or pretentious, Abdul and his team have been serving great, familiar food to me for more than 20 years

Came here very last minute before a flight. The staff were so accommodating and helpful, and the food was fantastic. Everything was served promptly, tasted great, and was reasonably priced. Would definitely return if I ever fly from Stansted again!

Interesting to read some of the poor reviews of the Bombay Butler. Didn't get slice of lemon with onion bhajee! Didn't have a children's menu. Seriously, take your kids to McDonald's. I have been going to the Bombay Butler for years. Ate there again this evening. The staff are polite, friendly, but unobtrusive. The food tastes great and the portions are generous. Ignore the one star reviews.

Great curry, great service, reasonably priced, best in the area

Nice restaurant and nice food this is our local Indian and although in my experience a sit down meal seems slightly better quality in takeaway form the food is also nice. Good value for money and lovely lamb dishes. Good quantity and would recommend.

Spent £100 on take away, the food was wrong , cold and had spilt open over two bags! Phoned and spoke to them and they told me it wasn’t there problem and very rude! I told them I shall give them a bad review and they said go ahead ! So rude will never go again!

This is a great Indian restaurant with great staff and the best curry. I have a choice of restaurants to use in the local area but this is my go to for guaranteed quality food. The owner is often in the restaurant ensuring food quality is tip top and diners have an authentic experience. Staff are friendly and happy to accommodate any special requests.

We visited Bombay butler regularly the food is amazing, nothing compares, the staff and owner are so kind and we have never had a long wait. Even though all restaurants are closing because of coronavirous, Bombay butler will still be doing take aways as far as I'm aware. we cant wait for you to re open when all the illness is over. Extremely busy on a Saturday evening, but luckily we had reserved a table, as it was the last one unoccupied.Staff were obviously under pressure, but remained polite and friendly.Food not as good as I’ve previously had, but we put it down to how busy they were, and will return in the future.

Exceptional service and exquisite food that transported me to a culinary heaven! The next time I’m back in the area I’ll be sure to stop by again!

Probably my favourite Indian restaurant food is really nice and affordable nice setting inside and quick service I always enjoy my food here staff one in particular could smile a bit more so this is the only reason I have dropped it a star but no real complaints on the whole I recommend this venue

Best Indian food I’ve ever had! The chicken tiki masala was amazing! The staff was fantastic and the service was quick! I highly recommend this restaurant!

Food fantastic as usual. However, when we had a meal on the 2nd January we were made to feel very unwelcome . The staff on duty were disinterested verging on rude. Disappointing as if it had been our first meal there we would not return. Will try again because of the excellent food and hopefully the staff will improve their attitude towards their customers!

This is my favourite Indian around. I highly recommend the chicken tikka masala. The staff always friendly, the beer always fresh. Sun-thu they have a £11.95 deal too.

We ate here for the first time with friends who live locally. What a great restaurant! The staff are so so friendly. They even in ripped us in the kitchen to watch our dishes being cooked. Food tasted incredible too. Definitely recommend xxx

We always have a lovely meal here, it is our regular indian restaurant. The staff and ambience are friendly and comfortable, looking forward to our next visit.

I have been to Stansted twice and each time have eaten here.The food is really good. I had the Tandoori mix cocktail and my friend had a vegan dish. Both of our meals were exceptionally tasty. We both had leftovers, which they were happy to pack to take home.We found the service attentive and friendly - and will definitely visit again next time we are in Stansted!
