We went into the Ivy not knowing anything about it but it looked inviting from the outside and it was cold and rainy and an awful weather-wise day. How pleasantly surprised we were. It seemed to be snooty and stuffy but wasn't. Beautiful atmosphere and the food was delicious. My friend had the 1917 Menu of starter and main: Salmon Rillette with avocado, salad and rye bread and main of Shepherds' Pie. I had a starter of roasted scallops with creamed spinach and potato puffs. The cost: no more than what you would've paid in a neighborhood cafe. And the rose colored ladies' bathroom is beautiful!

Not been for years! Use to be really busy and lots of choice of food. Not many people in, small menu and small portions. The fish, gammon and pie were great but the chips and peas that it came with were very small, the gammon came with 8 small chips! The service is good just shame on the portions for the price.

The transformation of the Brasserie and continued excellence of the food has made this into a wonderful dining experience. A sensible choice of starters and main courses. Wonderful wine list at sensible prices offering wide range of well researched wines from around the world.

This is a tricky review to write because I really like this place, it's even better in its new location. I went to see a live gig there and the venue upstairs is excellent. Bar area downstairs looks very smart and has a good food menu although we didn't eat. What sticks in my throat though is charging £10.40 for two drinks, one of which was a non-alcoholic beer. It's not cool to be charging the same price as a normal pint. Ridiculous in fact. I'd recommend seeing a band here but take plenty of money

I've given the restaurant a 4 star review. And here are my reasons. Myself and my family go out for breakfast around Grimsby and Cleethorpes on a regular basis. We try Brown's on the sea front. The serve yourself buffets, jonny doughnuts. The fisherman's arms. Top to bottom. This could have been a disappointing experience as it took us an hour to get our food. Unfortunately for us they had just received a difficult table of 12. Even so an hour wait for breakfast is a long time. We had a very similar experience in the fisherman's arms. With one very big difference. Their customer service was shocking. This service was very good. Which saved this review from being a 2 star review. The food was exceptional. And we were offered free drinks because of the wait. Sometimes in this business not everything goes to plan. This was one of those days. But credit to them the staff turned it around. What I will say is the long delay with the food created a knock on effect for the rest of the day. So things I had planned Unfortunately didn't get done. I'm sure next time it will be a smoother service

A really lovely restaurant, beautiful decor, pleasant atmosphere. Positive friendly welcome and a wonderful menu choice. Delicious food served freshly prepared and very well presented. Will definitely be returning here on a regular basis. Highly recommend.

My wife & I visited the cafe after a day in Hornsea & a visit to the Hornsea Freeport before returning home. We were warmly greeted by the young lady behind the counter who took our order. My wife had carrot cake & I had blueberry & banana cake. Both cakes were delicious. Fresh, tasty & a decent portion. My wife had an americano & I had a latte. The coffee was also good. Served hot & a nice taste. The staff were very good, excellent customer service skills & pleasant, chatty & polite

Go early for the best choices, we arrived at 6ish and still had plenty of choices... This an amazing little shop. And they laughed at my joke (I told my son not to knock on the glass or he would scare the cakes) - anyone who can still have a sense of humour after a busy day must be doing something very right.

This has become a family tradition on our pilgrimages to York, ironically we can never remember the name and accidentally refer to it by it's name. To quote my 12 year old who's a lover of all things Nutella, it's banging!

Ok where to start....I really wanted to love this place, French food, jazz and cocktails. Starters. Smoked salmon was nice, however baked camembert was over powering with nothing to balance the strength of the cheese. Mains. Lamb was meagre but nicely cooked however it had a thick layer of inedible fat around each piece of which there were two small pieces Duck was tender and moist but at the end of the day it was a cassoulet costing more than £30. Wine was average for again a £30 bottle. For the prices being charged £15 for starters, £30++ for mains we were very disappointed. I appreciate it was "Fine Dining" but the food didn't warrant the price or live up to expectation. Again salmon starter was good, and the duck was nice but the camembert and lamb were not great. Again apologies for the poor review.
