Number 1 favourite chip shop. Highly recommended

Thursday night 8.45pm, after football training. The guys could have been forgiven for not being at their best. However it was completely the opposite. The service was absolutely first class. Four of us were treated like royalty, given a free drink and essentially looked after above and beyond what you would expect. I would recommend this place to anyone, the staff are unbelievably welcoming, generous and full of interesting chat. Thanks so much for making Thursday night training so brilliant

I have had fish and chips from a lot of places, including Scotland and this is by far the best fish and chips I have ever had! The fish is always cooked to perfection and the chips are delicious every time. A special shoutout to Sedar who is always friendly and welcoming! Cannot recommend this place enough!

The best chippie in the area. Generous portions and competitive prices. I recommend the haddock and the roe.

Food is average and staff are very friendly. Price has got extremely expensive over the last year or so. I understand prices have risen for the shop but still seems excessive.

Looking to move to the area, Went here on the off chance today, found it amazing, huge portions, food was absolutely lovely, brilliant service and a member of staff even opened the door when we left. Highly recommended

Just had cod and chips delivered..... More batter than cod which was soggy and dripping with grease The cod was poor quality and the chips were cold, not even warm! Not wanting to reheat in the microwave, my dinner went in the bin Not Happy because its not cheap! Wont be eating from here anymore....

Came here last week for some fish and chips, the portion and the food was amazing but the hospitality and service was even better!! The gentlemen working there was so caring and sweet, you can tell he cares for the customers. He even brought out cardboards for us to sit on so our bottoms didn’t get cold! :D

We had food for 35 people for a Christmas function everyone said how good the food was.

Did a search as visitors to the area an dthis came up as the place to go ( no pun intended). We had the biggest piece of fish each, cooked fresh to order, and it was one of the best we've had throughout the country. Service excellent too, made us both laugh. Food was served with such pride. I was sceptical due to its situation in a small shopping aree - do not let that put you off. Will come back to essex just for a visit here

Such a shame as staff are lovely and food used to be brilliant but compared to the other fish and chip and kabab shop in wood Rd the chips from here compared to wood Rd one are always undercooked and soggy and expensive too, had them few times like that now so really disappointing 😭

Shop is very bright, clean & tidy. Staff friendly and welcoming. Food was hot and freshly cooked, the scampi was especially good.

Absolutely love this place the food the staff are both brilliant. They will always take the time and talk to my little boy and give him a lolly pop. Even out the staff recognise us and will stop to say hello can't get a better local chippy especially now they have a slush machine my little boy is obsessed I think we will be seeing you alot more than you used to :)

Always such a brilliant service from Paul's! Food is always to such a high standard and is consistently that way whenever I've ordered food from them. The delivery driver is always polite and friendly whenever we've had the food delivered to us. If you've ever visited the shop for takeaway, you'll always be greeted by very friendly, polite helpful staff who can't do any more to help you and fulfil your order. Can't recommend Paul's Plaice enough over other Fish and Chip shops in the area. Always my go to!

Staff are very kind and really care about their customers. Fast service, cleanliness, very good value for money and delicious food. Hard to find a chippy that doesn’t charge an arm and a leg these days. By far the best chip shop around!

called in for a takeaway whilst visiting my dad in Essex based upon consistently good reviews - fantastic large portions of Skate and chips - perfectly cooked and great taste - highly recommended.

tonight we had a uber delivery, uber didn't give the delivery man the right pin that they sent me on the phone to hand to him, the driver was very rude and looked like he was not going to move from my door, the order was right he had to phone us for our house number so he knew it was the right house, i am a pensioner this really stressed me out and had a asthma attack while he was at the door, my partner slammed the door in his face and our expensive food went into the bin

Got 2 large cods and a large chips. Fish had very very soggy batter. Chips slightly undercooked aswell. Won't be ordering again. Possibly the worst fish n chips I've had. Save your money. Cheaper ones around.

Visiting the area, and found this fish and chip shop on Google. Staff were very friendly and polite. Fish was cooked perfectly with crispy batter. Chips were were also perfectly cooked. All in all a generous portion of great fish and chips

Nice people, clean premises. Quite expensive. The cod was slightly overcooked. The batter was thick and soggy underneath. The cod bites were lukewarm with the same thick batter. Very greasy.

Chips were freshly cooked, and good size potions, order two saveloys , both were tough skinned probably from the day before, as they open at 11am and l was there about 11,45. Small cod ok but mostly batter, sorry to say nice people, but on this experience l won't be going back . Always used wheeler's by the blue nose and that's werelm staying

Read the reviews thought we would try it out - must have been an off night !!! Greasy chips / soggy batter on the fish (fish fell through the bottom) - didn’t finish it !!! Curry sauce was decent !!! Not for me

Paul's plaice is the best fish and chip shop about, they do amazing food at great prices, we come all the way from Chelmsford to order from them as they are just so good, their cod bites are out of this world nice along with their chips (no other chip shop does cod bites), highly recommend this chip shop to everyone, the staff are so lovely and kind and love to laugh 😊, we found out about this place by our friend Rosie who is a regular, keep up the amazing job.

After a great walk around the Heybridge Basin, we found Paul's Plaice by accident. The fish batter was still nice and crispy after our journey home to Witham and the chips were really nice too. We enjoyed it so much I will drive here in the future for our fish and chips dinners!

Today I witnessed perfection.. even during these troubling times these brave men working at Paul's Plaice came through and delivered the goods.. £3.80 for a chicken burger, not gonna lie I think I underpaid.. succulent, seasoned perfection. Chicken itself was bigger then my head.. you love to see it.. Cant say I've had a better burger.. Toasted bun was a nice feature also.. and then the chips.. rah, not undercooked, nor over.. perfect crunch and soft inside, and you know it's that good when the chip just absorbs the salt, vinegar and anything else that takes your fancy .. All in all I trust these guys with my life, if you're abit peckish and you're coming through these ends.. You best believe you're in for a good time

Just purchased Rock Eel & Chips as I was in the Bendall’s shopping Arcade, took it home to eat and I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. Cooked very nicely, generous portions AND open on a Monday.Nice!

Esta área luminosa y cómoda da a los Jardines de Invierno por un lado y una terraza al aire libre está cerca de los Jardines de la Paz, pero no con vistas completas. El servicio es bueno: un personal amable tomará pedidos o puede pedirlos en el bar. Hay un buen menú de comida en la sala de aperitivos ligeros si no te gusta el restaurante formal completo o el lugar Ego Mediterranenan en el otro extremo. Tomamos vino y luego pescado y papas fritas, para algunos, pasta para otros. Bien cocinado, sabroso y agradable. Tenga en cuenta que paga un par de libras más por plato en comparación con otros lugares, pero tiene una gran comodidad, puede escuchar la conversación y evita las multitudes borrachas que parecen habitar todos los bares de Sheffield en un sábado soleado. Recomendado.

Best chippie in the area, or maybe best chippe ever. Always great service and food always been good. Really friendly staff. Only downside is that the do get very busy, but in fairness even when very busy you don't normally have to wait too long and food has always been worth the wait.

Food was rushed and service was terribleness reserved for two pm and on arrival were informed they were closing and we only had an hour to dine

A bit pricey for what it is, but the crab salad starter in particular was excellent. Mains less inspiring, and a very limited and dull selection of wines by the glass. Service was lovely though.

Lovely restaurant tucked under St Paul's. We had Sunday lunch, beautiful roast pork belly accompanied by perfect roast potatoes, veg, fresh Yorkshire pud and a scrumptious Apple compote followed by a superb pear cheesecake. A lovely place for a quiet lunch and catch up with a friend, will be back.

I've been here a couple of times now and like it. The restaurant itself feels a little corporate but the overall venue is (obviously) pretty stunning and a great place to meet. Lunch was good, portions small-to-medium but enough for us (4 women, not sure how a hungry bloke would cope) and with plenty of variety even for vegetarians like me (well, 2 dishes is variety compared to most!). The bill was very reasonable. Will go back.

The venue was nice but not really what I had in mind, it was quite dated and seemed more for tourists who wanted a posher cup of tea. The bathrooms were are the other site of the basement so not very useful. We had the brunch menu and the portions were tiny! I had the Eggs Florentine and a friend the Benedict and we were starving afterwards! The only saving grace was the prosecco which was lovely and was kept topped up. So maybe only for those who want a couple of glasses of prosseco for an hour.
