We have been going to this restaurant for approx 14 years, the food has always been so tasty and excellent and highly recommended and it's relaxed and the staff are fantastic. We've been twice recently and it's exceptional.

One of my favourite places to eat. Sheffield's little secret restaurant. Be warned, make sure you are hungry and prepare to dine for 2 hours or so.

This was my first visit to Lahlou’s, and it won’t be my last. First impressions when walking through the door were “ less is more”. I realise it’s a relatively small venue, but they need to remove two tables, as it’s too cramped ( one on each level) The front of house lady ( I presume the owner) was extremely friendly and efficient. She even struggled down the stairs with a high chair for our grandson! The menu was quite extensive, with an abundance of meat and fish dishes. We went for a duck, chicken, and steak dish. All cooked to perfection, and generous portions. It was also a nice touch to get complimentary nibbles whilst waiting for the main courses. The only thing I felt was lacking was wine choice. No wine list, and for rose drinkers, only offering small bottles of that yucky Zinfandel. France is the home of fine wines, so compliment your delightful food with some wonderful wines! All in all a fabulous memorable night.

Absolutely delicious food as always!

Mixed bag for me. Appetisers nice, chicken and garlic bread. Starter garlic sausage was average, the sausage tasted like the sausage you get in a large pack or tin also wasnt described as in pastry. Frogs legs surprisingly nice, as always tasted like chicken. My steak was not great full of gristle, I had the provencale maybe because it was sirloin, however my partner said her steak was very nice Louis XIV fillet. The side of veg was huge and felt too much. I just feel they fill you up on appetisers which is kind of nice, but too full to enjoy main. Maybe next visit i wont order starter or sirloin. Value for money is spot on.

Went for my partner’s birthday meal and the food and service was fantastic. Both had a different steak and both cooked perfectly. Would highly recommend a visit to Chez Lahlou's.

First visit here, and we'll definitely be back. Lots of quality food to eat - starters were excellent, and you get complementary garlic bread and wings. In all honesty, don't go big on starters as there's so much of it. The steaks we had were beautifully cooked with sauces that were spot-on, too. Because of the size of the portions, we barely touched the accompanying veg. Price was decent for the quality and quantity of the food on offer. Lovely host, and you can bring your own wine. Highly recommended!

In a small and friendly restaurant we received some excellent that delighted us all. The menu has plenty of choices but it is best to choose a variety of dishes as duplicates may be a stock problem. In this was we all got to sample different foods. A very pleasant evening when we were efficiently looked after by the hosts

I went here for a date night, the restaurant is so cute and little, with lovely atmosphere and fantastic service. I was shocked when we were served with wings and garlic bread as well as a huge side of veggies and chips along with the main courses. All of which were not part of the bill. I had the chicken in mushroom sauce, which was really lovely, but the portion was much too big. My boyfriend had the scampi in which I can't see you can go wrong with, he enjoyed it! The value for money is above and beyond here and we did take a lot home after. As lovely as it is to receive loads of freebies, I would prefer the freebies to be a little smaller in size (for a couple) as I imagine a lot of food goes to waste. The menu is broad with lots to choose from, almost overwhelming, however still brilliant.

Lovely owners/staff and delicious food. Huge portions and everything was perfectly cooked.. We ordered starters and mains. Didn't realise that once you order your food, you get given a huge portion of chicken wings served on buttery cabbage and cheesy garlic bread. More than enough for a starter. Ordered the French onion soup for starter (delicious and huge portion in (managed less than half of it after the free chicken wings and garlic bread) and husband had the prawn cocktail which was lovely. Husband's mains course steak was perfectly cooked. My main course prawns were lovely. All served with a huge amount of different vegetables (which we took home to have with our dinner the next day). Very generous portions when ordering glasses of wine. Delicious cabernet sauvignon. Would definitely go again but wouldn't order a starter due to the delicious free (and unexpected) chicken wings and cheesy garlic bread. Really nice, quirky and unpretentious local restaurant. Arrived after reading good reviews no atmosphere cramped picked items on menu not available chose another item not available when are mains arrived steak was tough could not be cut my veal was half OK other half tough ordered bottle of wine than asked for another bottle of same wine told not available also asked waitress could we have little break from starter and main told it comes out when ready I would not visit again better places to eat

My friend and I had a fantastic dinner in here. We had the opportunity to taste French cuisine fish varieties and appetisers. Portions were definitely satisfying and food was also very delicious. The lady was very kind. I would definitely recommend here to anyone who is looking for a French cuisine in Sheffield 👌

Dinner with friends last night. Our first visit after 2 years. It hasn't changed. From the welcome to the food it is in our opinion one of the best restaurants in the region. Classic French food with a few twists. The quality of the ingredients together with an amazing chef bring food nirvana. We had warned our friends not to have anything to eat as the portions are generous. Next time we certainly won't leave it so long to our next visit. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

What can I say??? This place is superb. Although small, it adds to the atmosphere and ambience of a great dining expeeience. Excellent complimentary entrees, and the main courses were gigantic, well presented ,and tasted brilliant. The service was second to none, I can't speak highly enough of this place and can't wait to return.

Absolute gem of a restaurant. Our first visit. The restaurant is only small but the portions are definitely not. The lady who greeted us and served was very welcoming. Complimentary garlic bread and chicken wings were lovely. I had sirloin steak which arrived on a sizzler plate and it was huge and cooked to perfection. Can't recommend this place enough. A must visit and we will be back soon.

Absolutely stunning! Been eating here for over 30 years and it never disappoints. Now it’s our family go to, with our kids, (all in their 20’s now) for birthdays anniversaries etc. We were a party of 6 there last night, 5 of us had steak, different cuts, different sauces, and different timings, all came out perfectly cooked. Food as always, more than plentiful, but more importantly, beautifully prepared and cooked. I don’t know how they do it, but I’m so very glad they do! Was lovely to chat over old times too!👍 Chez Lahlou, whatever you do, don’t ever change!

Never been to a French restaurant before but this was out of this world. Food, service, atmosphere were superb....many many many compliments to the staff and chef

Visited chez Lahlou this evening 19th July (Wednesday) via a friend’s recommendation and I am very pleased to report that this dining experience was superb. Quite an extensive menu for starters and mains although unfortunately the seafood starters and snails were unavailable due to demand because of their popularity. However, this in no way took anything away from the dining experience. Our waitress was efficient attentive and polite throughout and each course was excellent. The restaurant itself is entirely ambient and allows for a very relaxed dining experience. Our party of 4 all ordered different steak dishes and each one was cooked to perfection and was excellent quality. All the portions are on the large side and this includes the staters and once again the quality of the starters are excellent. The accompanying vegetables and in our case homemade chips were again delicious. There was fresh raw vegetables and garlic dip before the starters arrived plus a large bowl of oven roasted chicken wings and some garlic cheese breads complimentary. Drinks are very reasonably priced and there’s a decent choice too. Everyone in our party was of the same opinion that this is definitely a little hidden gem of a restaurant and we will most definitely be returning in the near future. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and size of the portions at this restaurant and you certainly will not be disappointed if you choose to dine here.

Very nice evening meal for our party of 6. Unexpected chicken wings and garlick bread appetisers which were lovely but very filling. Excellent starters and perfectly cooked steaks. Only comment to make is too much food but it was really good.

Tremendous little restaurant. Food was lovely. Great portion sizes. Onion soup, fish and steak all outstanding with the huge serving of vegetables and chunky fries which comes with the mains. Will definitely be back!

Tasty food in massive portions. We were also given free garlic bread and chicken wings which were delicious. Did end up taking some of the food but that just meant we had meals sorted for the next day. Would recommend!

Came here tonight for my partner’s birthday after seeing the 4-5* reviews and left HUGELY disappointed. As soon as we arrived, the ambience was awful - cramped tables with no space, cringe music and dirty, unkempt toilets. The waitress was lovely to give her credit, but they didn’t have basic drinks like cider or many wines, and were missing several menu items when we tried to order. There were free crudités, garlic bread and chicken wings which were fine but totally unnecessary. You could get nicer chicken wings from a fast food place, so if we were charged for them I would’ve complained. Starters were huge and came quickly so no need for all the free food before. Scallops were overcooked, and pastry on garlic sausage was raw or soggy so we asked to take it home (so we could cook it through and not waste it). Mains were disgusting. Partner ordered steak medium-rare but got medium-well. My veal was overcooked, dry and sauce was just gelatinous cream with virtually raw mushrooms. I sent mine back and thankfully it was taken it off our bill. Main complaint is it wasn’t a cohesive meal like you expect in a restaurant - just overcooked meat with a huge plate of boring steamed veg. Not worth £20+ per main. Waitress said there was only 1 chef so no wonder the food was vile. We will never be returning, and I wish I’d asked for more off my bill as I paid £60 for what was essentially a glorified school dinner. If you’ve ever had genuine French food, do not got here - if I could, I’d ask for my money back.

We went for a family dinner celebrating my father's birthday. We all had a form steak on way or another. All VERY happy with our meals . Definitely recommend.

Great service, glad we didn't order a starter, we were given garlic bread with cheese and chicken wings first. We both had fillet steak. Cooked just how we like it, medium rare. Served with a side platter of five different vegetables and roast potatoes. Absolutely lovely food. It's been over 30 years since we have been, I don't know why we have left it so long. We will definitely be going again soon.

We had 20 people booked in for my friends 40th birthday celebration. They asked for our orders before we arrived if possible which was no problem for us. The lady is very friendly she is a one person machine and I've been told they is only one chef. The turn around for food is amazing. The standard of food is amazing. By far the best steak I've ever had. I had the 3 peppered steak done medium (it was perfect). The prices are really good. We will be returning regularly from now on. Its our new place to go 100%. So the kids chicken nuggets was amazing freshly cut and breaded chicken breast no cheap pre packed rubbish.

Lovely restaurant, you need to arrive very hungry as the food servings are generous and delicious, a real feast!

Definitely a hidden gem this place. Was recommended by a few friends and had to try and they were right, it was incredible. Had free chicken wing starters and garlic bread, could of eaten the chicken wings all night and leave happy. Had the scallop starter which was really tasty. The main dishes surprised us as the portion sizes was sooo big with extra veg. It was Definitely value for money. Highly recommended.

Dined here often in the past, returned after sometime,food just as good as it always was and plenty of it.The hosts Janine and Edward are friendly and helpful and will attend to any dietary need. Well worth a visit!

Anniversary meal with the family and wanted to try something new. The main reason I feel compelled to write this review is just the sheer quantity of food and the free starters we received at the start (chicken wings and garlic bread and dips!). We live in a world where nothing is free and you have to pay for every tiny thing. So to come to a restaurant and receive such service and generosity was truly refreshing, never experienced anything like it. For 3 of us we had 3 main meals including 2 duck a l'orange, starters (yes we were brave enough to try the snails) and non alcoholic drinks and got change from £70. Incredible. There was so much food we couldn't eat it all. Highly recommended

Wow,yet again the most amazing food ever,I simply can't recommend this restaurant enough, the food is 5 star,the customer service is 5 star,love the atmosphere and feel of this little gem which is probably the best In Sheffield, never disappointed when we visit here on a date night or with friends and family.

We ate at Chez Lahlou for the first time tonight after recommendations from a few friends. Wow! The food was amazing, large portions and delicious. We ordered 2 courses each but didn't realise that we would get complimentary garlic bread and chicken wings too - we were stuffed and had to have our mains packed up to take home. Been to chez lahlou for the first time tonight with some friends , it was there choice as they been many times before but was my first time and I would highly recommend. Great service. Friendly welcoming staff . The food is very decent potions and price and very tasty and they provide a lot of sides extra on tables while you wait for your food which is really generous. Will 100% be back. Thank you for such a great evening.

Went to this restaurant with my husband my son and girlfriend as she hadn't been before but we all had I only live around the corner from this restaurant it is absolutely brilliant,the food is out of this world the service is good she works very hard on her own the lady that owns the restaurant. She brings dips out, then chicken wings which are very succulent then garlic bread which is delicious all this is free so theres no need to order starters unless you wanted something completly different, we last visited before covid and nothing as changed food is still delicious. We couldn't eat it all so everyone was having their food wrapped up to take home there was that much. If you havent been you definatly need to book you wont be dissapointed.

Very disappointed with this restaurant as on their business page (google page) they specify that they are open on Thursday from 6pm till 11pm. We went today which is Thursday the 10th of March at 8:45pm table for 3 and the blond waitress middle age lady turned us away saying that they are close which is a complete strange as they display on their google page that they are open until 11pm on Thursday evening. This is absolutely disappointing because we saw the waitress serving table for 2 from outside when we were just considering to dine with them.

Well what can I say, I travelled from Derby for a meal as I've heard so much about the food here. And I can honestly say, this was one of the best meals I've had in a very long time. The food was divine, and...

Food portions are huge and the gratuities are generous. Delicious duck and fish plus the beef is fantastic. The seating is cramped as it is a small restaurant but the food does not disappoint.

If you are looking for a lovely restaurant to visit in the S 6 area this one will not disappoint. Excellent food and nothing was too much trouble. We all had a fantastic night. Will definitely be revisiting again. Thank you very much Chez Lahlou😊

The food in here is absolutely amazing... Steaks cooked to perfection, plenty of accompanying vegetables, complementary chicken wings and cheesy garlic bread too... It is no surprise that there is not a dessert menu on show as you would struggle to eat one ! The hostess is lovely, the atmosphere is chilled and just right for either s curry night for two, groups of friends or even a larger party... We loved it 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

My 12 year old daughter and I stayed over for a break in sheffield and we fancied to try something a little different so we searched on Google a French restaurant. This one came up and we thought we would try it. We are both very picky and we cannot say one bad thing about the food. Normally you get quantity over quality or quality over quantity but this has both. We both couldn't finish our main course after having a starter each. I have a very big appetite and I never normally get beaten by food. On this occasion I did. The lady was on her own serving us was very polite and helpful and non stop serving everyone. All im all.the food was sensational and id recommend this restaurant to anyone. Word of warning though make sure you turn up on an empty stomach so you can finish your meal. 5 🌟

Not the best but you do get a lot of free stuff. Service was very pleasant. When we were there most of the menu wasn’t available. The food I ordered was Average at best. Main problem was the gravy, reduced down to a thick gloop. The potatoes were cut fine as to resemble crisps but were immediately soggy due to the thick gravy. Others in the group seemed more happy with their choices.

We've been coming here for years but I must admit as you get older you don't eat as much as you use to do. It's all very nice but when you go out to wine and dine then that is what you want to do...

Just a-m-azing! The peppered steak(s)?! were phenomenal as was the halibut. So much food. Nice Malbec house red as well. Going to curl up in a ball and sleep very happily.

Just come back from here. OMG!!! Firstly: delicious. Secondly: superbly cooked; we tested the chef with different cuisson for our steaks and they were all perfect. Thirdly: the PORTIONS! Huge. Complimentary breads and chicken wings, then steaks thicker than your arm. And they offer doggy-bags! Fourthly: decent wine menu with some surprises. Recommended (by me, at least, other experiences may differ).

We had such a good time at Chez LahLou for our anniversary. The servers are lovely, the food is beautiful & there is enough to take home, which the servers very nicely wrap up for you! Absolutely brilliant night out
