The transformation of the Brasserie and continued excellence of the food has made this into a wonderful dining experience. A sensible choice of starters and main courses. Wonderful wine list at sensible prices offering wide range of well researched wines from around the world.

No one can deny the restaurant is stylish although at 55 years old I did feel slightly too young to fit in for Sunday Lunch. Service slow in lounge bar, but once they acknowledge you it's all "very very attentive"! Menu is lovely. Food is excellent. Please please can we have some mash (not everyone likes goose fat roasties) and maybe three vegetables on a Sunday lunch instead of two. Sweets excellent. Don't get tea/coffee extra on top of the £40/head. Been coming for years. Will keep returning even though I live Nr. Harrogate. The place oozes olde worlde class and elegance. Not for the financially challenged. Keep up the good work!

Last Friday we had a party of 10 dining in the Fleur de Lyn restaurant in Wentbridge House. We cannot fault the food or the service that we received. From walking in we were greeted by Stuart who looked after us all evening. Kerry and her team took care of delivering the food to the table. The choices on the Festive menu gave us plenty of choice. I can personally recommend the veggie option. We included one wheelchair user who’s needs were taken into account. She thoroughly enjoyed her rare night out. Stuart served us with professionalism and good humour. He’s a credit to your team. Kerry’s team also deserve a well earned pat on the back. Well done Wentbridge.

Drinks were carried through from the Drawing Room to the Dining Room which was a nice start. We had five different starters and all came within five minutes of us being seated. Each one was nicely presented and all enjoyed. The main courses came after a reasonable period and this time we had four different main courses and each one was thoroughly enjoyed by us all. Wine was poured throughout the meal and service was excelelent.

Ate whilst staying on a one night break. The steak was very good but overpriced at nearly £29 whilst the lamb was good but a bit chewy. Not offered any bread. either. Very nice cherry trifle sundae though. Plus they had run out of several drinks on our visit.

Originally booked as a table for four for a 60th birthday. Had to go as a couple due to coronavirus restrictions. Food was mediocre so was disappointed. To add to this another diner approached our table twice, under the eye of the staff and actually picked up my wine glass. The staff did not intervene nor offer to change my glass. Very disappointing.

He's always time for a little chat. It was a wonderful afternoon out . Here's to out next rendezvous at Wentbridge.

Took my fiancee for her birthday on a Saturday evening. Covid protocols are very good. We have a really great evening with good friendly attentive service all night. We had three courses which were all delicious and really well cooked with wine and a cocktail to cap off the evening. I would recommend the steaks. The surroundings were really nice and whilst the restaurant was busy, the service and food was great. A very enjoyable evening.

Very disappointing. Booked for our wedding anniversary and thought we may get a glass of champagne, no we got a card. Never mind. I ordered the seabass. He ordered Cod. The waitress brought out our meals and gave me the cod and him the seabass. Both fish dishes so we didn't realise. I wondered where my onion bhaji was - he was eating it. 'Where's my mash potato?' I was eating it. We tried to find a member of staff - noone around. Eventually our dishes were replaced with the correct food to the correct person. However, expensive and no reduction in the bill.

Visited twice within the last week. The first time was with two friends for the evening menu on 24th August and today, 31st August, for the Afternoon Tea service, with my teenage daughter. No issues surrounding social distancing and safety measures. Upon arrival there is an automatic hand sanitizer machine with an electronic temperature checker. It was very well organised and extremely normal, under the present restrictions that restaurants are guided by.The evening menu had a good choice and an opportunity for us to try some things that we wouldn't usually explore, like battered pickles and Queen scallops. The service was exceptionally good from our server Anna and our waiter/ordertaker(Edward I believe/Antony)throughout the course of our evening. It certainly was service with a smile! We would definitely recommend and return! Today's visit was an impromptu decision, booked only 3 hours in advance. It was really busy but the service was certainly not compromised. The Afternoon Tea menus and selection of teas and fruit infusions catered for everyone's afternoon sweet and savoury taste buds! Ashleigh and Julia provided standout service to us during this visit, nothing being to much trouble. They all work very hard and you can see them pull together as a team to get thing's ready for the next guest's arrival in the restaurant. Loving the newly decorated ladies powderoom too and the amazing hand wash and hand lotion! Thank you Wentbridge House...We really do feel special when we visit.

We really enjoyed the food although the portions were very small. We were advised to order extra vegetables as the one advertised with the dish are "only for show". It would have been better if there had been more than two vegetable options but the ones we ordered were beautiful. Our issue was with the tattiness of the restaurant. It's very dated but what I struggled with were the many large stains on the obviously old 'velvet' chairs and benches. I looked to see if we could move to another table but on inspection they were all the same. Some of the buttons were dislodging from the back of the seats, and the carpet had a dull allover look of a carpet from the 80s that had been walked on everyday. In summary, the food was lovely, beautifully seasoned and cooked but on the small side. The staff were friendly but the room was just so tatty. We won't be back, it was too much money for a scruffy room. Shame though.

My brother and I took our Grandmother and Aunt out expecting a lovely Afternoon tea. Sadly, we felt quite let down and what was meant to be a special afternoon was dampened by the staff members there. We were poorly directed to the room where we were meant to be eating and once we found the room there was no staff member in sight to welcome us or seat us on arrival. Another couple wandered cluelessly the same as us. This was frustrating as my Grandmother is very frail and has poor vision and guiding her in and out of rooms and having to wait to be seated was embarrassing, Once seated the waiter left us with menus for almost 10 minutes, unnecessary especially as we came for Afternoon Tea and the choice is between just which tea you want. When the tea was brought the waiter rambled something out very quickly and then disappeared again. Throughout the meal we needed more water but there was nobody in the room to ask and it shouldn't be our responsibility to hunt someone solely for some water. We were not asked how the meal was or if I needed to pay at the end. I had to actively go up to the front desk to request to pay where it seemed there were suddenly 5 staff members all stood behind there. The food was nice but it was hard to enjoy when we felt just dumped in a room and not cared for. Won't be back and likely won't encourage others to come.

This restaurant is well worth a visitThe staff from Manager to waiters/waitresses were helpful and very friendly..The dinner can only be described as exquisite - confit lamb shoulder was edible with a spoon, as was the delicious calves liver and bacon. The sorbet trio was really tasty, The Chef - Joshua - should be congratulated as this service was running just after a large wedding !Best was the attentive service. A pre-dinner drink and orders were taken in the drawing room, staggered so as to keep the kitchen happy. The maitre'd was a very knowledgeable sommelier and the following morning was also clearing breakfast tables - an hands on example to others.Dinner service was 'silver service' standard and when asked a waiter even knew what micro-herb was used with the sorbets (lemon balm !)If passing north or south via the A1M and needing a touch of class then eat here.

I spotted on the Hotel website that they were advertising a monthly grill night with live music so thought I would give it a try. We were warmly greeted in the bar and served 2 delicious gin and tonics with slivers of rhubarb in the balloon glasses. A complimentary platter of nuts, olives and nibbles was brought to our table while we studied the menu. We opted to order from the full menu rather than the grill special as we were both driving so couldn’t take advantage of the wine that accompanied the grill option. We were shown into a lovely small dining room where a musician was singing and playing on the guitar. He was playing contemporary hits and had a lovely voice but softly singing so it wasn’t overpowering. We were served delicious olive bread before our food arrived. The service and the food were superb. I will definitely be making a repeat visit soon. A beautiful venue, wonderful food and attentive service.

I recently attended a festive afternoon tea with my employers and work colleagues. On arrival we were shown into the drawing room, beautiful with its roaring log fire. We weren't offered bar serfvice at all and were left waiting. Our server came to collect us from the drawing room and we were shown into the Fleur de Lys and seated at our table. It became a little hit and miss after that. We did have a fussy eater with us, but she had telephoned before we arrived to advise that she didn't eat gammon/salmon etc. Glasses of mulled wine were brought to our table, which was a lovely touch. Our teas arrived, we had to wait an age for milk. Our afternoon tea arrived, which was lovely but again we had to ask for the jam/cream etc for the scones. We were booked in for afternoon tea at 4.30 (and this had been discussed with Wentbridge House beforehand) but we felt somewhat uncomfortable as the waiting staff were not very discreet in their hovering and wanting to clear the table (and us) from the restaurant. Those at the other side of the table had a clear view of an exasperated looking restaurant manager (we assume that was his role) constantly checking to see if we were ready to go. Eye rolling when we asked for bar service really isn't very professional. As another afternoon tea table cleared who were close to us had to ASK if it was ok to go into the bar for drinks as they were leaving. I wasn't privy to the staff response. As said before the staff were hovering for us to leave and practically pounced on the table as we stood up to leave. I ought to stress at this point we didn't have the bill and in fact my boss had to go to hotel reception to ask for said bill! Again not one member of staff offered to show us into the bar where we would have been DELIGHTED to have another drink. So somewhat bemused we found ourselves in the car park and heading home. Such a shame. There were a lot of obviously we trained staff present. The restaurant was immaculate but that did seem to be at the detriment to the actual customers. Disappointing to say the least.

I selected the Wentbridge House Hotel for my Wife’s birthday and anniversary family get together on Sunday afternoon purely on its location as it was central for our widely dispersed family - must say I certainly picked a winner! When I made the reservation it was suggested that the Brasserie would probably be best rather than the set meal in the restaurant. What a good suggestion. The Sunday menu was terrific with something for everyone. The food was fresh, tasty, well cooked and presented, difficult to pick out any one dish to highlight but the roast pork got good reviews, my fish pie was excellent, and the Yorkshire starter with onion gravy, well never tasted gravy quite like it, heaven. What really made the meal special though was the staff, friendly patient and attentive nothing too much trouble even for the grandchildren. Lovely location and enjoyable experience, we will be back.

Fabulous site, first class staff, wonderful service. Just had Sunday lunch for six .Thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. Not cheap but the drinks were twice the cost of the meal so that is our own fault. It is worth coming here just to see the remarkable Babs who has worked here for hundreds of years but still doesn't look a day over 60. She is a legend and an absolute joy. The issue is the menu and the food. It is no better than average to good. The menu here should be vibrant, exciting and cutting edge. The food should be awesome and should match the site, the service and the staff and it doesn't .It lets them down. There is nothing specifically wrong with it. It is good produce well cooked. But it is ordinary , unimaginative and obvious. It is no different to what one would get at a decent carvery in a good local pub. Which is fine but that surely is not the aim here. A chef with some flair, ambition and imagination is required because otherwise all the other fine people are simply wasting their time.

Was really looking forward to eating here. The menu sounded amazing and with a 2 AA rosette rating I was expecting good things. My starter of gravalax was tasteless and was on crusty bread which had gone soggy and was really hard to cut/chew. The main course was mediocre but think it's ridiculous that you have to order all of your vegetables separately when the dishes are overpriced in the first place. My dessert (rhubarb triangle) was probably the nicest course but found the giant sponge triangle which looked like expanding foam (and probably had less taste than expanding foam) was completely unnecessary and was obviously there to look nice and fill you up.The children's meals were also disappointing. The garlic bread was lacking in garlic butter, the slider burger very dry and the portion of pasta was miniscule (after asking if the portions were a decent size for my 12 year old niece and they aid they were generous). On a positive note, all the staff were lovely and extremely professional. Looking back in should've complained but did not want to ruin the atmosphere on a celebratory evening. All in all, over priced, overrated and underwhelming.

Had lunch here recently and thought it was very good. Both the starter and the main were well cooked and presented, the vegetables accompanying the meal were just right portion wise and were also well cooked. However, the puddings were a little sickly for me as I don't have a sweet tooth and there wasn't really an alternative. Service was attentive but at the same time discreet. The only slight bugbear is the adjacent lounge which is too small to seat diners for pre-lunch drinks or after lunch coffee, as it is used by hotel guests as well so it is difficult to find a free table.

Dinner at the fluer de lys restaurant , Wentbridge house hotelLast night we had dinner at the fleur de lys restaurant at the Wentbridge house hotel at Wentbridge,This was something we had being looking for ward to for a while as I had been quite ill this year, I have been using the Wentbridge house restaurant for special occasions almost since the 1970’s. So as this was a week before Christmas what better place to be looked after .with good food , fine wine and attentive service ( after all they won the outstanding service award in 2014..) so we were looking forward to a real treat. But as it happens we were quite disappointed.Upon arrive as normal we headed to the lounge bar , but alas the bar had gone and a few extra tables and chairs were there and cubby hole in the corner of the room. The room was quite full , but I spotted a table and a couple of chairs after waiting a while .and as there was no obvious helper or waiter on hand I had to move quite heavy chairs , myself. So we plonked down looking forward to a welcoming drink , again after waiting for ages I decided to go looking for some help as no one had come ,. Which we did find eventually. ( sure I've no problem with update it or modernisation to perhaps provide a few more seats , but for goodness sake have some staff or colleagues to be in the room to welcome clientele and to offer them some refreshment. So off we went for our dinner chosen from the festive menu, the stater and the main were up to the Wentbridge house standards, the pudding or sweet was very poor. My wife ordered the Chocolate orange tart with whiskey ice cream, which sounded delightful, what came was a chocolate tart plonked on the plate with a scoop of ice cream on top of the tart and four or five segments of a clementine around it. This is not haute cuisine but a poor effort by someone in the kitchen who'd obviously had a hard day and couldn't be bothered to make up a professional sweet plate no presentation skill or flair used .. a poor ending to a good meal .So to end the meal we ordered coffee and mince pies in the lounge, off we went and again after waiting for 10 or 15 minutes there was no sign of anybody or the coffee for ages I had to go our and try to find someone to look after us, that 2 or 3 waiters came into the room and asked if we had ordered , but alas no coffee arrived .. it eventually did and the waiter asked if we wanted mince pies we said yesterday again , but they didn't arrive for about 10minutes , and what arrived was 2 mince pies that had either behind defrosted in a microwave or and just come out if the Oven and were soggy and warm.In all a very, very disappointing evening, not something I would expect at the Wentbridge …

Disappointed! For many years we have enjoyed an annual friends’ meal at Truffles, Kippax which regrettably closed earlier this year. We sincerely hoped our Wentbridge House booking would match the exemplary standards we’d consistently enjoyed at Truffles. Our expectations – and the reason we chose Wentbridge - were based upon our previous dining experiences at Wentbridge House. All very positive! We arrived 20 mins before our 8pm booking and after a warm welcome we were shown to a lounge that has previously contained a bar.Not enough seating for all our party – another large group were already present – but after about 10 mins they left for their meal. Our drinks’ order was then taken, some nibbles were presented and we chatted and waited. Our meal choices were taken and we were treated to some friendly banter. And we waited. One of our party had ordered a non-alcoholic mixed drink and after about 10 mins one of the waiters returned to explain that bar staff had no knowledge of the recipe. One of our group accompanied him back to the bar to help. We waited. The drinks finally arrived. The non-alcoholic request hadn’t been correctly mixed despite assurances that the bar staff had understood the help with the recipe. The Maitre D’ took over to provide an alternative drink. Not the best start to the evening! We were shown to our table.2 of our party of 10 were absent due to illness but the remaining 8 were seated at an oval table set at an unfortunate angle that meant that it was impossible for the waiting staff to place meals on the table for one of our party – her meal had to be passed via neighboring diners!Previously ordered wine was served and tasty, warm bread was offered. We chatted. We nibbled the bread. We sipped the wine.We waited. The Maitre D’ came to inquire about our starters. He seemed genuinely surprised to discover that they had not yet been served! He assured us that he would chase them up!Another long wait whilst we sipped more wine before the starters arrived. No further bread was offered. Interestingly, no waiter remained in the room to respond to any requests once the dishes had been served. We were left alone in a medium sized room for some time until another couple of diners arrived. By the time they and a waiter appeared, most of us were so well on with our starters that the moment for requesting further bread with soup etc. had passed. There’s a fine line between waiting too long between courses and waiting just long enough. It’s not a perfect science but Truffles always managed it perfectly, probably because either unobtrusive waiters or an experienced Maitre d’ were on hand. The Wentbridge ‘waits’ were too long. The mains arrived. General opinions of taste and presentation were very favourable although the portions were modest. The following gap between Mains and deserts was once again poorly judged. One of our group – coincidentally the lady who had been seated in a waiter-inaccessible seat – received an unwelcome piece of plastic within her otherwise tasty Chocolate pudding! The Maitre D’ couldn’t have been more apologetic and immediately apologized. He then assured us that ‘the Chef’ would be paying for one of our bottles of wine and the chocolate pudding, both of which would be removed from our bill!Of course, a bill adjustment was appropriate and we did accept his sincere apology but it was simply unnecessary and most inappropriate to share with us how he planned to ‘punish’ the Chef! It was too much information and left us with a mixture of emotions! We were neither offered coffee nor after-dinner drinks – nothing!By then, we were happy to leave but it’s the first time any of us could recall being effectively ‘hurried-out’ in such a way from a restaurant! On price - £403 - and environment, The Fleur De Lys restaurant clearly aspires to share a similar level to that previously occupied by Truffles. However, on this occasion we certainly did not feel sufficiently valued as guests. The service simply failed to match the aspiration. The evening failed to meet our hopes or even approach our expectations. We were disappointed.

My wife and I went for dinner to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and we couldn't have picked a better location. The attention to detail is excellent from the minute you walk into the hotel to when you leave. The food was superb, I had the venison, and my wife had the lamb, both cooked to perfection. Service was fantastic and special mention has to be made of Babs ensuring the younger members of the waiting team were spot on. Highly recommended and we will be visiting again.

Went for Sunday lunch on a recommendation. Everything was lovely especially Betty. The service was first class. The roast beef was cooked to perfection and was some of the best Sunday roast I have ever eaten. However the meals were let down badly by the roast potatoes which were tough and rubbery and had obviously been "standing" for hours possibly since the previous Sunday. How hard can it be? Starters and deserts were all very good but it is the potatoes that live in the memory unfortunately.

Visited Saturday evening. Impressive service (although waiter did forget my wine!). All dressed in uniform looking very smart. Fabulous menu ! Starter pare average although fish starter excellent. Main course really good. Dessert very nice. Small portions so don't forget to order extra veg! Overall very nice if not just a tad expensive.

Have to admit this is my favourite local restaurant. For me their Sunday lunch is unsurpassable in terms of quality and value. A delightful cocktail or glass of champagne in the cocktail bar before a leisurely lunch cannot be beat in the vicinity. During the week the Fleur de Ly's a la carts is also superb but at a considerably greater cost nevertheless worth but for me for special occasions only. For a party up to 26 persons take the Tudor room and if time and pocket allow stay sSaturday night and relax through to Sunday lunch. A special mention for Babs who has served me with love since I can remember and I'm 55 now.!! Thank you.

Just had the most wonderful Sunday afternoon dinner in the Fleur de Lys restaurant to celebrate by mum's 70th birthday. The hotel has a stunning setting, which was marched by exquisite decor and 1st class dining and service. The whole experience was special and the very personal card on the table was a lovely touch. Thank you for giving us such a memorable afternoon.

Had a very relaxing evening in the restaurant, with excellent service from the moment we walked through the door. There are a good variety of dishes available for all courses. The venison main course was particularly good. Service was good throughout the meal and staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. If you need to manage a budget, this may not be the place for you but for a special treat or If, like me, you value quality food and service, it is well worth a visit.

Went here for lunch for the mother-in-laws 87th birthday. Booked in advance and arrived on time and were seated promptly and drinks arrived quickly. Then the wait began 30 mins later just as we contemplating a pizza delivery our order was finally taken !After that things speeded up as once you'd ordered you could have bread ! and despite the slow initial service the food came reasonably quickly although another table who'd only ordered mains seemed to have a long wait. The food itself was excellent I'd certainly recommend the venison. The restaurant needs to lose its demarcation lines as they had plenty of staff but only the head waiter was taking orders hence the delay and at least lose the rule about giving the bread.Despite this would probably go again but will take a book to read.

We have used this restaurant several times and it is the best in the area. Our preference is the brasserie in the hotel as this is more to our style decor wise. Well presented food of a high standard and we would recommend highly.

This is a review of the Brasserie restaurant. The setting is nice the service is friendly. The food is ok but nothing special. The mussels I had as a starter were pretty bland and probably some of the worst I've eaten anywhere. I opted for the cod as a main. The fish was overcooked and pretty flavourless. I skipped dessert and went for fresh mint tea which tasted very bland. Surprisingly the place was full of people. There are not many good alternatives in the area.

What a beautiful afternoon tea we had at Wentbridge, with great service and a calming atmosphere. We booked a table for 5pm on a Tuesday and had the restaurant to ourselves.A wide range of Taylor's of Harrogate teas to choose from, coffee or decadent hot chocolate meant that all in our party were satisfied. The sandwiches, cakes and scones were all delicate and stylish, and tasted gorgeous at the same time. This felt like a real treat, but didn't cost a bomb, unlike some other places that serve something similar.

Myself and my wife visited the Wentbridge after a friend recommended it. It was a bit awkward from the start as we didn't know where to go so we where sent down a corridor to a room that had a bar etc in it but no one there ? was this where we where supposed to go ? I had to go back and ask which I felt I was intruding as the 3 staff where just having a chitter chatter.Anyway the presentation, the menu, the tables, the layout basically the whole set up seemed really good indeed. We ordered Scallops for starters and the Chateau Briand for main to share of course. Well the starter was nice but the scallops where cold ? When I say cold I don't mean stone cold but certainly not warm, the plate however was so it seemed a bit strange but acceptable. When our steak came out and was just the same I thought why ? Also we had triple fried fries that I thought had only had a single fry, also they where tasteless, we both left all the fries. My wife didn't want a pudding but I thought Id have a look. After waiting a good 10+ mins with no one taking an order for a pudding I thought bugger it lets get the bill and go home, again I had to keep waiting :( We where the only ones in the restaurant so either they forgot us they are extremely slow indeed. The bill was £113 so £130 with a tip so the outcome was I can eat so much better elsewhere for the same money.I scored the restaurant 7 out of 10 but my wife said 5 out of 10 so overall not a place I will be visiting again. I can only think if the food had been warm this could have been such a different experience.

Stuck in slow moving traffic on the A1 returning from a Bank Holiday break in the Lake District, we decided to look for somewhere for lunch a short distance from the main road, rather than using the very busy service areas. Fortunately we saw a sign for the Wentbridge House Hotel only a mile or so from the A1. We found the hotel easily and went into the Bar/Brasserie area as we only wanted a light lunch.( I am posting this review here as I can't find a separate listing for the Brasserie ) A light bite menu was available as well as the lunch menu. We had sandwiches which were very good and nicely presented, although perhaps a little pricey. However the delicious food, good service and pleasant ambiance made for a much more relaxing break than a service area would have provided.

Hubby enjoyed his beef pattie and fries too. We will be back to try other dishes on menu soon. Can highly recommend
