Ivy Restaurant in York

Excellent experience at the Ivy. The food was so good that we returned the next day. The service was A1. A big thank you to Emma our server as she was so attentive. Thank you for adding to our experience in York.

Very disappointing food. Dry sandwiches, strange chocolate flavours and combinations which were inedible. Very, very busy so service was poor. Not offered extra tea or coffee after one cup or teapot. Food brought to table and then left - no further interaction. Our table was right next to staff station and seemed squeezed in. Staff disinterested and music too loud. Inane final conversation when paying bill and 12.5% service charge. It was awful.

Enjoyed a lovely lunch with friends. We chose from the 1017 menu which was great value for money. I had the salmon and asparagus racklet followed by the legendary shepherds pie. All beautifully presented with attention to detail. The staff were efficient and friendly as always. Everything was superb. Well gone the Ivy for getting it right.

We went with a view to have a main meal, but ended up having afternoon tea. The service, food and decor was perfect. All the staff were so polite, helpful and so friendly. Definitely going back for a proper meal next time.

Lunch with my sister for a very small hen party before my ceremony. The waitress asked if we were there for a special occasion and brought 2 free champagne flutes when I told her. The food was exceptional and our waitress Niamh was very informed about the menu and we had a lovely chat with her about her future plans. An asset to the restaurant so keep her if you can. Best scallops I've ever had followed by my fave shepherd's pie. A lovely touch was a free pudding. All in all a lovely experience and we will be back. Decor fab as usual and is up there with the London venues. We'll done the ivy

We visited here today for lunch,we were not disappointed. The decor was colourful and bright,lovely and clean. The staff were very polite and smart and very knowledgeable about the menu,when asked any questions about the food. Price wise was not to bad. The food was great we had a burger and the monkfish curry which very tasty.

Poor quality expensive food was a great disappointment given the price. We started with a serve of salt and pepper squid which had been frozen then over cooked to a rubbery consistency. Mains consisted of a Shepherd Pie which was the limit of the kitchens ability, an undercooked Luke warm sirloin steak, Luke warm beans with raw almond flakes and very good chips. The wine list whilst expansive was pricey. Overall cost £122.68 including £13.63 service charge was over the top. We have had far better food in York. We advised the waitress of the overcooked squid but there was no response.

Excellent food, very friendly staff and great surroundings. Menu changes on a regular basis but there is always a great choice of food.Highly recommended.

How a restaurant should be run. What an excellent meal. We went with my mother whilst on holiday in York and had an excellent meal. The whole experience was first class from our arrival until we left. The service was brilliant, a master class in how a restaurant should be run, the food was sublime. My steak was perfect, The desserts were wonderful I can highly recommend eating here

Dinner was at the York branch of The Ivy group. We could walk there from our hotel. We had a great meal with excellent service; everything we chose from the menu pleased us. We discovered that The Ivy also served a la carte breakfast, so we booked for the next two mornings. Given the vast crowds of people spending their break in York, this proved a wise decision, as we could start the day with good food and coffee and enjoy it in pleasant calm surroundings without rushing.

Excellent service , spent the weekend in York with the wife . Great menu, food delicious and cooked to perfection. All staff very attentive and friendly. We will certainly be returning !

First time at The Ivy, York and it was an enjoyable evening. The food was amazing, 2 of my favourites…scallops and crème brûlée….absolutely delicious. The decor is beautiful and there was a really nice atmosphere.

What a wonderful experience. From start to finish exceptional service with totally professional staff. The interior is stunning and original in its decor. The menu choices are more than adequate and cater for every taste. The food quality is excellent with superb flavours. We were there for a birthday and they brought out a celebratory dessert for our daughter. We were extremely impressed with the whole experience.

I visited her on Wednesday with my work colleagues. We had a private room upstairs which was just amazing, the doctor was fabulous. We booked the 3 course festive menu and it was amazing! The staff were super attentive, my glass was never empty! I highly recommend and would love to visit again

Myself and two friends meet up around every 3-4 months for brunch. We met at pregnancy yoga three years ago so our ‘time out’ is precious! We had a table booked for the three of us at The Ivy however one of the girls was unwell so it was just two of us. We were given a window seat and the menus. We ordered a cocktail for our starter (because, why not?) which was a Bloody Mary for me and an Espresso Salted Caramel Martini got my friend, both were simply delicious - we savoured every sip. For food I had Eggs Royale (eggs are my desert island food and my son has an egg allergy so when I get the chance…!) and my friend ordered the Eggs Benedict. The egg yolks were deep orange in colour, rich in flavour and exactly what I was excited for. It didn’t disappoint. We treated ourselves to a bottle of Pinot Grigio to share and our gorgeous waitress, Nora, kept it on ice for us, topping us up just before we knew we needed a top up. She was attentive without being over bearing and when we told her the reason for our gathering she shared that she also had two little ones. To be honest, we wanted Nora to pull up a chair and join us! We both had the creamiest creme brûlée for our dessert. Nora very kindly gifted us with a profiterole each, both holding a lit candle. She said it was ‘for being lovely mummies’. Her service really made the whole experience extra special for us. The decor is stunning, even the flowers on the ceiling of the toilets were beautiful! I adore the wallpaper used in there. The ambience was relaxed with an air of class. When our friend is feeling better we will definitely be returning. We hope to be served by Nora again!

Everything about our visit contributed to a fantastic experience. Each course we ordered was really enjoyable but what made it special was the service. Special mention must go to Maggie who looked after us and was friendly, cheerful and professional
