Lovely place in central York. Nice decor and courtyard is great Food was nice, service was friendly.

This has been our go to place for over 40 years (when it was Oscars first!). Lovely food, beers and the outdoor courtyard is excellent. Think we’ll be going back for year 41!

Been going to this place for lots of years. Went this evening & ordered a burger & small nachos with a sprinkling of cheese. I can’t eat much cheese. Order came loaded with cheese & an extra dipping dish of cheddar cheese. When we went to pay the bill & asked for a slight reduction on nacho meal manager took a photo of us & him & a woman argued with us was told I should have taken cheese off. Would they have treated me the same if I was gluten free or vegan . We explained nothing wrong with rest of meal & wine but they got security & threw us out. I have never been so ashamed as I was this evening

Good honest food. Fantastic, friendly and efficient staff. Well worth a visit. They were so careful with gluten free options too.

Great place food was really good. We sat in the courtyard. They had a canopy over due to the weather. They opened it for a few minutes before it started to drizzle. Good place to eat with dogs as long as they are well-behaved. Staff are welcoming and friendly. The food, tho a little slow, was lovely.

Only came in for a beer and check out the atmosphere. Fantastic experience as soon as you walk through the door. Bar staff friendly and very helpful. Food looks amazing, definitely worth another visit.

We really enjoyed our meal here. The restaurant is very nice and cosy inside of an evening. Staff were very friendly and welcoming and out food arrived quickly and was reasonably priced. The best gravy I think I've ever had! Would definitely return if visiting York again.

Not been here for long time, my sister and I called in and had lunchtime special , sandwich, chips and a drink. Brilliant value, and really enjoyed it. Served by a lovely girl . Thank you, definitely be back

Came in for my mom's birthday. The staff were amazing, asked them to bring her a little cake with a candle and they did ! even sang her a little song, which made her night special. AMAZING RIBS ! one of the main reasons we keep coming back.

Great food, excellent service and good value for money

Very rude staff, girls on the bar very unpleasant and rude to our group.

As a group we entered the pub to be greeted by 3 staff standing at the end of the bar rolling their eyes at us for wanting to order a drink. We were in a big group who all ordered a drink and even some food between us and yet when cocktails were ordered from the advertised happy hour we were met with unwelcoming comments about having to make the cocktails. Food was delivered and when asked if we wanted sauces the wait staff proceeded to talk to his friends in the drinking area and did not bring anything. While sat drinking in the outside area, we were being watched from the door from all staff, we were not unruly so had no reason to be watched in this way. We were made to feel incredibly uncomfortable. Would not recommend this place as the service is deplorable.

called for quick drink with group of friends, 3 of us ordered a carafe of wine the remaining 2 ordered cocktails and were informed by the very pleasant server that it was 2 for £12 and pointed out list. When cocktails arrived there were actually 4 of them, it would seem you cant mix and match they have to be the same type this was not highlighted and not obvious underneath the list, we asked to speak to manager who was very rude lacking in any customer service skills she pointed out it stated they had to be the same on the other side of the drinks menu and because we had ordered wine listed on this side we should have seen it so therefore we would have to pay £22 for all the cocktails there was no negotiation. While we accept it did state this,it should have been made clearer when ordered so fault on both sides 5 mature Ladies wont be returning

BEWARE. Myself and four friends visited Stonegate Yard Bar on Monday 5th Aug for a cocktail prior to going for our evening meal. A very pleasant young lady who worked there informed us that it was 'happy hour' therefore they had cocktails 2 for £12 and showed us the cocktail list. Three of the group chose wine while two of us chose one cocktail each. When the cocktails arrived there were two of each!! We explained that we only wanted one cockail each. We were then told that it had to be two of the SAME cocktail. We were at no point informed, prior to ordering, that it had to be two of the same cocktails, nor were we told that, on the other side of the laminated sheet, in small print, were the conditions of 'happy hour' cocktails (ie not near the cocktail list. We didn't look at the other side because we had the list we needed). We obtained no satisfaction from the on duty manager or the overall manager whatsoever. when we explained what had happened. It was deemed completely our fault so we had to pay up!!!! No 'Happy Hour' for us!!!!

On this occasion I did not have food but I have in the past and it has been top notch and I could not complain

VERY disappointed when we ordered cocktails during happy hour, the waitress brought menus and informed us it was 2 cocktails for £12 and pointed to the list on the menu and house wine was £8.50 for 1/2 litre. We looked at the cocktails pointed out to us and ordered two different cocktails and a 1/2 litre of white wine. When the cocktails arrived she brought 4 cocktails 2 of each of the cocktails we had chosen. We told her she had made a mistake and she said perhaps she hadn't explained it very well. She did not point out that it was 2 of the same cocktail at any point in our order. We explained that we were booked into a restaurant to eat within the next 15 mins so couldn't possibly drink them. She then said it shouldn't be a problem she would speak with her manager. The Young manager came to the table and pointed out to us that in small print on the back of the menu it was 2 of the same. This had not been pointed out!! We offered to pay for 2 of the cocktails and the wine and we're more than happy to return the extra ones we didn't order. In a very curt standoffish and unapproachable manner the offer was refused so we asked to speak to the owner, she told us he didn't speak with customers and that we had to pay for what we had been made. We told her we were unhappy to pay, (and although we did, as we are 5 mature and honest nurses) we would not return and would certainly let the general public know that in this establishment there is NO good will for an honest mistake . WE WILL NOT RETURN!!!!

From the moment we were seated, Josh's warm and welcoming demeanor set the tone for a perfect evening. We started with the Sex on the Beach cocktails, and they were nothing short of divine. The balance of flavors was impeccable, and Josh's recommendation to try them was spot on. It was the perfect way to kick off our meal. For our main course, we indulged in the Mediterranean platter, and it was a feast for the senses. Each component was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Josh's knowledge of the menu was impressive, and his enthusiasm for the dishes was contagious. What truly set Josh apart was his attention to detail and genuine care for our dining experience. He anticipated our needs before we even had to ask, and his service was both prompt and unobtrusive. Josh's professionalism and friendly personality made us feel like VIPs throughout the entire meal. Josh is a true gem, and the Stonegate yard is lucky to have him. If I come back it will be for drinks only, it's a decent enough spot for that. The food we found to be really poor quality. What I'd expect from a weatherspoons.

Virtually empty restaurant but was pretty much ignored by the two girls serving. Asked how we order they suggested either at the bar or at the table then just continued their conversation. No idea about the food as the service was depressingly bad.

Staff are obliging & very friendly. Nice food & chilled atmosphere. Very popular!

Sunday roast was a treat, a half of a roasted chicken and generous amounts of sides, including perfectly steamed fresh veg (broccoli, carrots, parsnips and haricots verts). Not busy at all, server brought food and vanished.

Walked in for meal and drinks told 1 hour for food waited till served us drinks and sat us at a table then told won’t serve us food as too busy and not booked! Wouldn’t have sat down with drinks if had said that from the start

Nice friendly staff, quick service, decent atmosphere (sadly we couldn't get a table outside where it looked really lovely in the sun), and excellent food. Would definitely go again. Update: got a table outside in the sun this time and it was lovely. Fab food once again. Thoroughly recommend.

Wanted a quick snack and drink between the sightseeing. Service was prompt and helpful. Food was great. Very good beer selection. Cozy beer garden and a very colorful interior.

We were here several times during our holiday. A really cosy place where you can sit inside or outside. We have always been able to get a table without a reservation. The main courses are large in relation to their price. In addition, every dish here was very tasty and the service was very good and friendly. A real recommendation.

We visited last week and although the staff were great the food was only satisfactory apart from the chilli which was quite tasty. I ordered the chicken kebab which was bland and everything was covered in Tzatziki - maybe my fault for not asking for it to be on the side. My daughter ordered a gluten free meal (half roast chicken) which was okay but Coeliacs be warned - it was served on a wooden chopping board.

We booked for a family party for 15 plus people at the last minute they changed the area where we meant to be this was not ideal but it is what it is as the atmosphere wasn't great ,food was ok for buffet food, I would recommend if not going for the buffet options

Just had a very hearty steak and ale pie. Meat was melt in the mouth. Struggled to eat everything left some peas and chips the pie was too good to waste!Well worth another trip. Chicken burger was just right as well, not stodgy as some can be

A decent and central lunch spot with a variety of options available. We ordered the Greek chicken kebab and salmon tagliatelle - both fairly tasty but nothing showstopping. Service could have been a bit better as they were slow to take our order and we had to ask for cutlery after our food arrived. We were also seated in a narrow corridor which wasn't ideal with customers and staff squeezing past our table every few minutes. Overall, not a bad meal but not sure if I would visit again.

This Is mine & my partners favourite place to dine & drink, however the bouncer did not let us enter due to my partner stumbling. He does not drink, however he has a Meniscus tear in his right knee. Unbelievably disappointed.

This place is tucked away down a short passage off Stonegate.the outside dining area with raincover is a great place to enjoy the delicious food on offer for very reasonable prices. The staff are quick and polite. Good experience!

We passed by and checked the menu before deciding to give it a go - not always easy to find somewhere if you haven't booked, but they had plenty of tables. We shared the grande nachos to begin, and a rotisserie chicken for main - very filling and the chicken was super-tasty!

Stumbled across stonegate yard a few years ago on a visit to York and went twice during our stay. Today I visited York with my husband and 2 children and had the best beef baguette I've ever had. The gravy was absolutely unreal!! The children had already eaten at mcds, but once they tried mine insisted on a bowl of chips to have some of the gravy on. Reasonably priced and great atmosphere. Lovely again guys 😋

The food was great, my friends and I had the lasagna, chicken curry, and thai noodles - the portions were a good size too. However most of the staff had an attitude. I'm not sure if that's simply the normal attitude the serving staff tends to have there, or if it was targeted at me and my friends, but it was a bit weird.

A must try fish stew served with Italian flatbread of the specials menu. Good vegetarian options

I don’t normally like writing negative reviews but I feel it’s needed as I wouldn’t want anyone else to be left feeling as disappointed as I did. You wait all week for a Sunday dinner then your served a dry inedible meal. It was cold the chicken was so dry the whole meal tasted like it had all been reheated. I was so annoyed to have paid £15 to not end up been able to eat it. There wasn’t even any mash potato even though it came with the pies. The other food looked good but avoid the Sunday dinner at all costs!!!!

Stumbled across this place, looked so inviting and we weren’t disappointed. Great service, friendly staff and buzzy atmosphere. Sorry to leave! We ordered chicken flatbread with tzatziki and burgers - wow so tasty - best flavoured chicken I’ve ever had and reasonable too. Well done all. Thoroughly enjoyed it

Couples night out, just a few cheeky drinks on a Saturday night. Great atmosphere, lovely friendly staff. Will come back.

Grand son was treating me to lunch, belated birthday wishes. We had lasagne with garlic bread. It was superb and hot. My daughter really likes their beef stew.

Lovely meal for our 25th anniversary

Advertised as open until 11pm but was closed at 8.45pm. Apparently when it’s quiet they just close when they feel like it and don’t bother to update their hours on google. We had taken an Uber especially in from the outskirts of town to try this place on a friends recommendation. Needless to say we won’t be passing our recommendations on.

Had the best night in York here after our meal, perfect for the end of your night. We were served by Eleanor and she was lovely and so helpful. Would definitely recommend.

We booked this restaurant after a recommendation from a friend who's locally born and raised. Nothing disappointed us. Great food, great service and reasonably priced. Would definitely eat here again on our next visit to the city.

This used to be one of the coolest bars in York with great music. It’s fine now but you could be in a chain pub anywhere- there are much more quirky and individual bars within a stone’s throw- if you know where to go. This place has good memories for us but we’ll have to keep it that way after a very uninspiring visit this week. The gents loos are, however, still very cool- they haven’t ruined them!

Fantastic place. Visited on Sunday 11th Feb. I had a beer. Wife had a Malibu and Cokex2 as we shared a Picnic Table for 2 off the menu. We enjoyed everything about this place. Friendly, Professional and the Service outstanding. Especially the fella waiting on us. I think he was the Owner/Manager. Food was outstanding and just enough for 2.... Especially the warm scotch egg with runny yolk and warm pork pie. We will be returning and I am going to recommend this to all my friends (You may need to book a table prior). Keep up the great work guys.

Worst fried chicken I’ve ever eaten!! My friend ordered a burger which came In quick time and he ate with no complaints. My food arrived after he’d eaten his meal and looked very appetising which I was looking forward to eat! The chips were the saving grace of this meal…. This has got to be the worst fried chicken I have ever eaten In my life! You’ve all heard of KFC with its 11 herbs and spices special recipe which is finger licking good…. This was not that… Wouldn’t kill anyone to add some flavour to the chicken never mind some salt, pepper, smoked paprika, garlic granules or onion granules to season the bloody thing! I’m not a fussy eater but I couldn’t even finish the meal it was tasteless… Wouldn’t eat this again if my life depended on it! Do not recommend!

Lovely meal at one of the few dog friendly establishments in York. Sat in courtyard with a heater, nice relaxed atmosphere. Excellent service, nothing too much trouble. Even served us food a little early of serving times.

This used to be a great pub. It says on the website that there is food on offer, the kitchen is now closed. The service on the bar is good although it is offset by the pub being cold. This is a city center pub,surely with such a glowing past and a capable manager it could be so much better than what it is now.

I've been going to Stonegate Yard for years. It's a nice bistro type business, set off Stonegate. It's reasonably priced for food and drinks for York. They offer a good variety of dishes which are well cooked and tasty. There is an outside courtyard which is covered in the winter by a canopy but it's still a bit chilly, okay for a drink but not a meal. The inside tables are on two floors and very cosy atmosphere. It's probably worth booking for Saturdays.

Visited here for a nice lunch, was quieter than expected. Food was decent, nice little setting. Plenty of choice on menu. Service could have been Quicker, considering the volume of custom at the time!

This is a good spot for a summer drink or lunch but in winter it’s a bit chilly. Lots of room upstairs but the picture of a log fire only draws attention to the fact there isn’t one. Apart from this, the service was very friendly and helpful. Pints of Black Sheep delicious and once the Picnic Table arrived (after half an hour) we were impressed. York is full of pubs and this one is a good one to know about as it has a large courtyard which is wonderful on a warm day!

Had burger and it was one of those flat processed ones . Tasted cheap awhat a waste of money. Last time I went a few years it was a home made chunky burger. Sooo disappointing

Had not been there in a while and pleased I did. Love the courtyard, all warmed up, nice food for lunch in great portions and the waitresses were very friendly, attentive, not over the top, just right. Will return soon for sure!

This is my go to place for a weekly lunch meet up with friends. Great atmosphere, lovely food at a very reasonable price.

Went for a meal last Saturday night. 4 of us put on the smallest table, which gave us not a lot of room, especially when empty glasses were left on the table and not removed. We were told a 45 minute wait for food, which ended up being over an hour! Ordered the food and then told some of our starters were not available. Waitress came and told us and didn't bring a menu to the table in order for us to select new starters. The main course came out and was told one meal had been missed out in the kitchen. Some of our meals were not up to standard. On the upside didn't have to pay for any food or drink. Definitely not returning.

Always a great visit here, they have food options for Vegan to full bloodied meat eaters & every appitite level. Will go out of their way to tailor your food order, great, great prices on very good wine. Staff are lovely, friendly, helpful, cheerful & efficient.
