Stonegate Yard Bar & Brasserie in York

This place is tucked away down a short passage off Stonegate.the outside dining area with raincover is a great place to enjoy the delicious food on offer for very reasonable prices. The staff are quick and polite. Good experience!

Oh my goodness! I love this place. The food is amazing. The staff are so helpful and friendly. I wish I lived closer.

We passed by and checked the menu before deciding to give it a go - not always easy to find somewhere if you haven't booked, but they had plenty of tables. We shared the grande nachos to begin, and a rotisserie chicken for main - very filling and the chicken was super-tasty!

Great little place with a covered outside eating area. Lovely atmosphere and great staff. Lots of inside seating but great place for alfresco dining. We'll behaved dog welcome.

Greeted by a lovely lady who was very attentive. Drinks served promptly along with gorgeous freshly cooked food. First time eating here and will definitely return next time we are in York.

Stumbled across stonegate yard a few years ago on a visit to York and went twice during our stay. Today I visited York with my husband and 2 children and had the best beef baguette I've ever had. The gravy was absolutely unreal!! The children had already eaten at mcds, but once they tried mine insisted on a bowl of chips to have some of the gravy on. Reasonably priced and great atmosphere. Lovely again guys 😋

The food was great, my friends and I had the lasagna, chicken curry, and thai noodles - the portions were a good size too. However most of the staff had an attitude. I'm not sure if that's simply the normal attitude the serving staff tends to have there, or if it was targeted at me and my friends, but it was a bit weird.

A must try fish stew served with Italian flatbread of the specials menu. Good vegetarian options

I don’t normally like writing negative reviews but I feel it’s needed as I wouldn’t want anyone else to be left feeling as disappointed as I did. You wait all week for a Sunday dinner then your served a dry inedible meal. It was cold the chicken was so dry the whole meal tasted like it had all been reheated. I was so annoyed to have paid £15 to not end up been able to eat it. There wasn’t even any mash potato even though it came with the pies. The other food looked good but avoid the Sunday dinner at all costs!!!!

Stumbled across this place, looked so inviting and we weren’t disappointed. Great service, friendly staff and buzzy atmosphere. Sorry to leave! We ordered chicken flatbread with tzatziki and burgers - wow so tasty - best flavoured chicken I’ve ever had and reasonable too. Well done all. Thoroughly enjoyed it

Couples night out, just a few cheeky drinks on a Saturday night. Great atmosphere, lovely friendly staff. Will come back.

Grand son was treating me to lunch, belated birthday wishes. We had lasagne with garlic bread. It was superb and hot. My daughter really likes their beef stew.

Lovely meal for our 25th anniversary

Advertised as open until 11pm but was closed at 8.45pm. Apparently when it’s quiet they just close when they feel like it and don’t bother to update their hours on google. We had taken an Uber especially in from the outskirts of town to try this place on a friends recommendation. Needless to say we won’t be passing our recommendations on.

Had the best night in York here after our meal, perfect for the end of your night. We were served by Eleanor and she was lovely and so helpful. Would definitely recommend.

We booked this restaurant after a recommendation from a friend who's locally born and raised. Nothing disappointed us. Great food, great service and reasonably priced. Would definitely eat here again on our next visit to the city.

This used to be one of the coolest bars in York with great music. It’s fine now but you could be in a chain pub anywhere- there are much more quirky and individual bars within a stone’s throw- if you know where to go. This place has good memories for us but we’ll have to keep it that way after a very uninspiring visit this week. The gents loos are, however, still very cool- they haven’t ruined them!

Fantastic place. Visited on Sunday 11th Feb. I had a beer. Wife had a Malibu and Cokex2 as we shared a Picnic Table for 2 off the menu. We enjoyed everything about this place. Friendly, Professional and the Service outstanding. Especially the fella waiting on us. I think he was the Owner/Manager. Food was outstanding and just enough for 2.... Especially the warm scotch egg with runny yolk and warm pork pie. We will be returning and I am going to recommend this to all my friends (You may need to book a table prior). Keep up the great work guys.

Worst fried chicken I’ve ever eaten!! My friend ordered a burger which came In quick time and he ate with no complaints. My food arrived after he’d eaten his meal and looked very appetising which I was looking forward to eat! The chips were the saving grace of this meal…. This has got to be the worst fried chicken I have ever eaten In my life! You’ve all heard of KFC with its 11 herbs and spices special recipe which is finger licking good…. This was not that… Wouldn’t kill anyone to add some flavour to the chicken never mind some salt, pepper, smoked paprika, garlic granules or onion granules to season the bloody thing! I’m not a fussy eater but I couldn’t even finish the meal it was tasteless… Wouldn’t eat this again if my life depended on it! Do not recommend!

Lovely meal at one of the few dog friendly establishments in York. Sat in courtyard with a heater, nice relaxed atmosphere. Excellent service, nothing too much trouble. Even served us food a little early of serving times.

I've been going to Stonegate Yard for years. It's a nice bistro type business, set off Stonegate. It's reasonably priced for food and drinks for York. They offer a good variety of dishes which are well cooked and tasty. There is an outside courtyard which is covered in the winter by a canopy but it's still a bit chilly, okay for a drink but not a meal. The inside tables are on two floors and very cosy atmosphere. It's probably worth booking for Saturdays.

Lovely dinner and drinks alwsys friendly and welcoming. Happy to returnnand recommend . Beef baguette and a chicken kebab. Very tasty !!

This used to be a great pub. It says on the website that there is food on offer, the kitchen is now closed. The service on the bar is good although it is offset by the pub being cold. This is a city center pub,surely with such a glowing past and a capable manager it could be so much better than what it is now.

Visited here for a nice lunch, was quieter than expected. Food was decent, nice little setting. Plenty of choice on menu. Service could have been Quicker, considering the volume of custom at the time!

This is a good spot for a summer drink or lunch but in winter it’s a bit chilly. Lots of room upstairs but the picture of a log fire only draws attention to the fact there isn’t one. Apart from this, the service was very friendly and helpful. Pints of Black Sheep delicious and once the Picnic Table arrived (after half an hour) we were impressed. York is full of pubs and this one is a good one to know about as it has a large courtyard which is wonderful on a warm day!

Had burger and it was one of those flat processed ones . Tasted cheap awhat a waste of money. Last time I went a few years it was a home made chunky burger. Sooo disappointing

Came across this little gem by chance, it's located behinds Brown's. Good food and drinks, almost full at lunch time when we visited speaks for itself.

A group lunch for friends at this great place in York. Tucked away but it's always busy. Good food, service and fairly priced. Lunch special was popular. Plenty of seating. Outside courtyard is dog friendly.

Had not been there in a while and pleased I did. Love the courtyard, all warmed up, nice food for lunch in great portions and the waitresses were very friendly, attentive, not over the top, just right. Will return soon for sure!

This is my go to place for a weekly lunch meet up with friends. Great atmosphere, lovely food at a very reasonable price.

Went for a meal last Saturday night. 4 of us put on the smallest table, which gave us not a lot of room, especially when empty glasses were left on the table and not removed. We were told a 45 minute wait for food, which ended up being over an hour! Ordered the food and then told some of our starters were not available. Waitress came and told us and didn't bring a menu to the table in order for us to select new starters. The main course came out and was told one meal had been missed out in the kitchen. Some of our meals were not up to standard. On the upside didn't have to pay for any food or drink. Definitely not returning.

Always a great visit here, they have food options for Vegan to full bloodied meat eaters & every appitite level. Will go out of their way to tailor your food order, great, great prices on very good wine. Staff are lovely, friendly, helpful, cheerful & efficient.

fantastic pub ..good beer and food was first class.. the charcuterie platter is great value and very satisfying.

This was a fantastic bar for drinking, with glorious architecture showing York's heritage! The counter has a classic style, staff were welcoming and the outdoor area is lovely. I had a refreshing bottle of Desperados priced quite cheaply, sitting back with a cushion!

Very quirky place. It felt like eating in someone's home. The food was really good, reasonably priced, and good-sized portions. There are plenty of drink options to choose from all served by friendly staff. Overall, it was a really nice place to eat.

Don't drink there'd wine it's rancid. I was looking forward to a mellow Merlot after Yorkshire's win at the cricket, even my upbeat spirit couldn't lift the Vinegar taste to anything like palatable. Such a shame they aren't trained to serve and buy better....moving on...

We had booked at another bar but when we got there, the table wasn't suitable for all of us. We decided to try this place (there were 10 of us) and we were so glad we did. The service was fast and friendly and the food was incredible (I had the steak and ale pie and the steak didn't have a scrap of fat or gristle). Everyone enjoyed their food and afterwards, we sat out in the courtyard which was beautiful. I highly recommend this place!

We have been going to Stonegate Yard for years primarily because of the consistent quality - you know what you are getting. The food is of a good/above average quality, service is always excellent and the atmosphere is nice and child friendly.

The staff make the venue special, always friendly and polite and very hardworking, it makes for the perfect place to relax. Thanks for looking after us.

This is our place to go when we are in York and has been for years,pleasant surroundings,polite and happy staff and nothing to much trouble . Willingly catered for my wife's dietary needs and offered and served of menu meal to suit her. We will drop in again for the best service ,choice ,great food and enjoy the surroundings.thanks

Quite busy place but has some atmosphere. We had to wait when would be served but then the food was prepared quite well and fast.

A really nice courtyard to sit in on a warm day. Cosy inside with plenty of space. Food was ok, just a Veggie burger, which was homemade I think. Could have done with more seasoning but service was great and would go again.

Excellent Food , staff and good overall experience

What an absolute gem located down a passage, if you didn't know it was there you'd easily walk past. The food was delicious and enormous portions so make sure your hungry. We had the lunch special sandwich, chips, salad & glass of wine at £7.95 absolute bargain. I saw the half roast chicken, meat pie and antipasta platter come out and they all looked delicious, everybody ate everything.

Seemed to be struggling with service. Drinks took an age to arrive and noticeable there were several punters not happy about certain aspects in conversations with staff. Food good when it arrived.

What a find! Lovely courtyard setting for Sunday lunch. And what a lunch it was. First class, large portion and great value for money. Staff were really friendly. If you dont want to sit out theres plenty of room inside too. Couldn't fault it. Word of warning though, we sat outside in the corner under the tree and both of us got pooped on by pesky birds.

Stunning beer garden surrounded by plants. Nachos were nice but guacamole would have been nicer with lime or lemon.

We shared nachos with beef ....bug portion for 2, lovely upstairs seating, plenty of outdoor seating as well.

A really nice place to eat. Had no issues with 14 of us, and a last minute addition who hadn't pre ordered. Reasonable prices and great service. Good tasted good too.

Ate here for lunch and had their lunchtime deal: sandwich, chips and a drink for a very reasonable price! We were seated straight away and were able to order fairly promptly. The food arrived in good time and was tasty, fresh and well priced. Our drinks were a decent size for being part of a meal deal. Will be happy to return again for lunch on a weekday!

A nice traditional pub with great outside space.A great atmosphere with people coming together enjoying a covered roof,good food and great beer.Long tables to attract large groups with a good interior bar with good service.We didn't try the food but it looked good with plenty on the plate.If your walking around York it's worth taking a look.
