Nola in York

We came for our friends 21st birthday. We all ordered several cocktails and food. Unfortunately we kept getting told off all the time … for 1. Taking photos 2. Using flash 3. Playing a video 3. Dancing for a tiktok etc being reminded that there were more people in there restaurant not just us. When we were sat next to the bar on the top with nobody around except the bar team. All staff were lovely except the supervisor or manager who was the one telling us off. What a boring place to go for drinks. We were all so disappointed as we thought it would be nice to celebrate her birthday there. The supervisor (has a bun and circle black large earrings) was visibly rude to colleagues pushing and ordering them inhumanely. He even rushed through and knocked down my coat and just huffed and puffed instead of offering an apology or help. He seemed offended every time we giggled or spoke to each other. We had 1 cupcake leftover so we gave it to Jack our waiter and the supervisor laughed . Giving us evil looks all night. After not even 2 hours at our table we had to leave because of this negative experience. What a way to ruin a special birthday . Never coming again! Wish we booked our friend somewhere else. She was very upset because of this man.

Interesting food in a stylish atmosphere with great service. We enjoyed the cajan type food and would recommend this restaurant if you like food from different parts of the world.

Everything you could ever want in a venue , beautiful restaurant , fabulous food and phenominal staff , we were there on a sunday evening and the live jazz was great all topped off with the best espresso martini i have ever tasted .Thank you for an amazing evening in york .

We stumbled upon here as regular visitors of York looking for somewhere new to try and we werent disappointed! The cocktail selection is great and there's so much to choose from, the food was great, I had oyster mushroom bao buns and teriyaki salmon while my partner had the beef medallion and mussels! Our server, Daisy, was an absolute delight and made our whole experience even better! We were pleasantly surprised by the live jazz band downstairs, and managed to get a table for the bands last set thanks to Daisy! Overall a gorgeous experience and will definitely be booking again in the near future!

Our experience was tarnished because the manager with the man bun was incredibly rude, so unfortunately we won’t be returning. Never had to leave a bad review before!

We had mistakingly booked ' Rustique ' restaurant but on arrival at ' Nola ' the receptionist arranged a table for us at our preferred time of 6.30pm. The food was excellent as was the wine. Our waitress Zara was perfect, knowledgeable and very pleasant. It was my wife's birthday and we were treated to free chocolate mouse and amaretto. The atmosphere was chilled and sophisticated. Will definitely return.

Amazing night here at Nola. Our waitress Zara had only been there 3 weeks and she was so lovely and just the right amount of attentive. Food was gorgeous small-ish tapas portions but sooooo filling. Food and cocktails were amazing. Customers that came in were nice and friendly so the vibe was happy and warm. All over recommend!

We came to Nola for a delightful meal out whilst on holiday in York. We were served mainly by Jack, who was absolutely fantastic. You can tell that they care about their role, whilst not being pushy, we felt well looked after. We could not recommend this place enough! The food was devine, all the staff were impeccable, and the atmosphere was both sophisticated and joyful. 5 stars!

I booked a table at Nola for my mums’ birthday. It was a last-minute change of plan from an evening meal at a diff establishment to an afternoon lunch to accommodate family members travelling with children. Aldo was super swift to respond and book us in and on the day, staff, service, and food was EXCEPTIONAL. We had a great time as a family. The children absolutely loved the food (5 kids under 10 years). The southern fried chicken burgers were a hit. The octopus risotto, beef medallion, prawns, chicken wings, bao, lamb kofta, calamari were all super tasty and cooked to perfection. Staff were supportive to the fact there was no kids’ menu, but they would remove any spice and/or make things easier so that everyone had an enjoyable experience. On clearing the table, the team brought out a birthday dessert and card for my mum and we all sang happy birthday. The décor was art deco, the cocktails were delicious, the place was clean, and the washroom facilities were also kept to a high standard. We will most definitely be back again as we’d like to come (without the children) to experience the jazz in the evening. Well done to you Aldo and your team for giving us a memorable experience 😊

We were looking for a special place to eat for my partner's birthday treat, We chose Nola because it looked inviting and offered a range of sea food which we both love. We were served and looked after by Rose and Sarah, nothing was too much for them! The added lovely touch was a 'Happy Birthday' card and candle to blow out. We ordered small plates of mainly sea food which we shared while enjoying the ambience of the beautiful restaurant. Thank you Nola, Sarah and Rose for helping to make such a special day for us xxx

Nice service and atmosphere but food was average at best

Happened by chance, very nice and welcoming place, run by Italians, it's the place where we ate best in the days we were in York. Generous portions and average prices.

Love love love, went for my father’s 80th birthday, from the minute we walked in to the minute we left we felt welcome. Cocktails to die for, food was AMAZING, service was fantastic. This place was suggested by the air b&b we stayed at (this was also fantastic) will be definitely coming back. ❤️

We went for the Sunday evening Live Jazz, it had great atmosphere, lovely food and great music. To be honest at a very reasonable price. We will definitely visit again.

Great atmosphere, gorgeous food and friendly and helpful staff! My girlfriend and I went for my 30th birthday and the staff went out of their way to make it night special including a small suprise birthday pudding for me. Our waitress Daisy was especially kind and helpful, giving us recommendations and fun chat. Would recommend!

Amazing food and even better service! Special mention to Daisy who was super attentive and quite possibly the best waitress I’ve ever had. She recommended a couple of cocktails based on our choice of alcohol, which were great, and made sure everything was perfect throughout the night. We had a couple of cocktails and two plates each, as well as sharing a dessert (chocolate fondant) which was amazing, and more than enough food for both of us. Next time we return to York, we will definitely be coming back. Thank you!

Nine of us went on a Saturday night and we were really impressed with the service. The food is delicious and all cooked to a high standard. The downstairs seating area is really nice and the ambience of the restaurant is perfect. As you can see by review I couldn’t fault it.

Fantastic food and service. Decor and music topped the whole thing off. My partners still insisting that the peppercorn sauce was one of the best he's ever tasted. We like going somewhere different that you can't make yourself better at home and this certainly achieved that. Can't beat a bit of alternative tapas.

Went with 2 friends and we’re uni students so don’t often splurge on dinner and drinks - but it was well worth it at Nola and great value for money! Perfect for groups or couples alike. Food was lovely, cocktails exceptional, and the atmosphere was perfect. We went on a Tuesday so there was live jazz music and it created such a relaxed and joyful vibe. Served by Luis who was on it all night and really lovely. Will be back!

Absolutely amazing food. Not very expensive for what you get. We were seated right away and although the portions are advertised as petite plates the food you are served is very filling. We came away with very full bellies.

Visited 3rd October. This place is top notch. Great food, and the service (particularly our waitress) was fantastic. Would definitely recommend and come here again.

Food Cajun/New Orleans. Very tasty excellent quality Sweet potato fries best I've ever had.

I didn’t like the food. It was tiny, very small and I don’t know why people keep mentioning a French restaurant it really isn’t. It’s creole and we had luke warm calamari, served with coleslaw, salmon in teriyaki , southern sweet potato fries , iceberg lettuce , duck spring rolls and scallops. It all seemed to be reheated and didn’t come out hot. The waiter was lovely but told us welcome to the best restaurant in York. It really wasn’t! £85 not well spent.

Everything is excellent. Zero complaints. Two of us went to celebrate our birthdays, the Jazz singer and saxophonist were situated downstairs (who were magnificent) where we sat with a good view. Food was brilliant, drinks just as good and the service from Luis was top notch - thank you. As it was a joint birthday ordeal, Luis looked after us and we were given a small gift along with a card. A very nice touch. Not only will I return but I will recommend to anyone that visits or lives near the area. Need more places like this, hats off to all staff. Thank you all, Alex

A delight from start to finish. Wasn't expecting to find excellent Cajun cuisine this side of the Atlantic when it's hard to find even west of the Mississippi. The atmosphere, decor, and music was perfection. Would recommend to anyone, local or tourist.

What can I say, perfect from start to finish, the staff were absolutely delightful, food was perfect and the atmosphere was so good my wife and I didn't want to leave !!, a great big thank you from both of us, we can't wait to return.....

Loved this place and is a nice change of pace in England. The food is all sort of tapas but a great variety of choice. Not all are winners, but generally very good to excellent. The Gin drinks are awesome and service is perfect. Highly recommended!!

Fantastic all around, Jack our waiter was a breath of fresh air he was funny, and gave great recommendations the pork belly was too die for, thank you Jack!!!

We went for my sister’s birthday. She thought it was going to be just us two, but her boyfriend and my partner were going to be there early as a surprise (she thought he was away travelling). The staff were very responsive to my request to keep this a secret when we arrive and made a wonderful fuss over her all evening. We all had a wonderful time, the food, cocktails and service was fantastic and we will definitely be back!

Poor size portion and the crab croquettes you can't taste the crab. Don't bother going really poor.

I can't rate the food, since we didn't eat. The classic cocktails, however, were excellent. We had a particularly good Brandy Crusta, a classic that is rarely seen on cocktail menus.

This was our first visit to Nola and it won’t be our last! The Food, atmosphere and service were fantastic! My Husband had the Glazed short Rib of Beef, Lamb Kofta & Dirty Rice. I had the Breaded Goat’s Cheese, Southern Fried Cauliflower from the Vegetarian/ Vegan Menu and we shared an additional dish of Mac ‘n’ Cheese (V), and a side portion of the Old Bay Seasoned Fries, (when I say shared, my Husband ate the majority!). We then finished our meal with Mississippi Mud Pie and Key Lime Pie with Ice Cream, again, these were delicious! The Morador Rosado Wine was nice and light, which was a great accompaniment to the food we chose.

The food was flawless. The service we received from Paolo was second to none! Even managed to catch some live music on the way out. Fantastic evening, great experience, highly recommend.

We had an amazing meal at this beautiful restaurant. The Gambas and Jambalaya were particularly excellent. The decor in art deco also adds to the experience. Our waitress Daisy was lovely, knowledgeable about the food and delicious cocktails. Nothing was too much trouble. Daisy was happy to chat and laugh and make a memorable evening for us on our last night of holidays in York. We are surprised this wonderful restaurant isn’t known well. It’s more than worth a visit once!

Very handy location from our stay at Judges Lodgings, the decor is superb, we dined downstairs and it looked like it was previously a very small cinema. I had scallop for starter and beef for main. Yes the portions are small but they are priced accordingly. Service was very good and staff were attentive. I would happily dine here again, booking recommended.

We had high hopes marred by several issues. Upon arrival when we'd booked a table in the music section so we could listen in, we were informed no music. Ok, we could deal with that disappointment but the music restaurant was 75% empty and there was a loud table with 6 very noisy ladies we were told this was our table immediately beside us. We asked to be moved and told our table was preassigned. The food was OK, though I had advised at time of booking of an allergy, they just gave us a book and said to look it up ourselves. Highlight, the puddings and leaving the very noisy ladies!

We visited on a Sunday evening - this was our third time at Nola and definitely the best! The food was lovely, Daisy was just amazing, and the jazz was the best act we’ve seen there. Such a perfect night, thank you

We dined downstairs for the jazz performance and the ambiance was fantastic. The jazz performer was excellent! The decor is very art deco, which was beautiful and very fitting. I liked how the restaurant wasn’t very bright and was quiet, with tables spaced nicely apart- it was a cosy, sophisticated vibe. My partner thoroughly enjoyed his food. I was mostly impressed with my food, despite having to leave my mussels as they were full of grit/sand and very unpleasant to eat, however my squid somewhat made up for that. The cocktail and alcohol selection is vast. We had cocktails; they were absolutely delicious! Can’t recommend the French martini enough! The waitress who served us all night was such an angel, and very attentive. I would certainly go again if we were to be back in York!

Tried here for the first time and was so impressed. The service, food, drinks and ambience were impeccable. We went because my 20 yo son chose it for his birthday meal. I didn’t totally buy in, but went with an open mind. The 4 of us had cocktails and chose various items from the food menu - all exceeded our expectations. Loved it! Special mention for the jambalaya - My husband said it was the best he ever tasted. I had teriyaki salmon which was divine. Key lime pie and chocolate fondant were sublime. We’d return in a heartbeat. Our waiter was charming, attentive but not intrusive, and offered recommendations. Fabulous service. All in all we were massively impressed and have recommended it to our friends and family.

We visited on Friday night for dinner whilst staying in York. The decor was beautiful especially the chandeliers. The staff were friendly and attentive and talked us through the menu. We had a variety of dishes between us which were all tasty. The cocktails were really nice.

It was a delicious meal that I and my friend enjoyed. But we received a poor service from a waitress due to attitude problem. Also we were there only an hour and it was not busy. I have to consider if I wanna go back next time

Visited for dinner and I was very impressed, food was delicious and great service, the food was brought out by Chef Danny, it was lovely to see a young and aspiring chef working within Nola. We also visited on Jazz night and it was lovely to hear live Jazz, 10/10 from me and I would definitely visit again!

We went last Tuesday night when the jazz group were on, It was a really great evening, The band entertained us with there music and witty banter and the food and service was excellent

I got a great pleasure to get a table when live jazz band played (every Tuesday and Friday). Fantastic atmosphere! Amazing food!! Superb service!!! Awesome drinks!! Doesn't matter if you're meat or vegie lover. You will find all type of food and taste is stunning. I definitely recommend and will return for sure.

Wow! This restaurant took me back to the 20’s, the atmosphere was great and the staff were lovely, very attentive. There are a lack of vegan options but they ever so kindly amended one for me to be vegan. The food I had was flavourful, definitely try their vegan jambalaya and vegan Mac and cheese. These were so good!

All prepared to a high standard and brought out in a timely manner. Can’t thank you enough for accommodating myself and my boys so late this evening, after being turned away from a few restaurants. We managed to get some food here, if you haven’t been before, it’s a must to visit, we managed to catch some live music, the food was amazing and the staff very warm and welcoming! I have had lunch in Nola on several occasions. The food has always been excellent. The menu has a variety of small plates and there will be something to appeal to everyone. It is reasonably priced and there are now lunchtime specials which are fantastic value. The restaurant has a stunning decor and the service is always friendly and efficient.

Visited whilst on a weekend break. Fantastic food, amazing cocktails( chocolate martini my new favourite) wonderful atmosphere, lovely staff, we visited on a Sunday where they had a singer entertaining which just added to the overall experience.

Absolutely amazing place. Went on a Friday for the Jazz downstairs. Arrived way too early but it was no problem for their amazing staff who served us cocktails until we could go downstairs. The food was sublime and the music made it even better. What a wonderful evening.

Had a lovely meal on here Friday, service was too notch, cocktails were delicious and the food was fab. We were seated upstairs and the atmosphere was nice. It was my birthday and they brought a mini chocolate pot with a candle and a little card which was a lovely thoughtful touch

Came here with my gf for an anniversary dinner in late February on a Saturday. Lucky enough to get a padded bench downstairs to share and we were both thoroughly impressed. Great cocktails and dishes, attentive service and unique atmosphere! If there's is a better restaurant in york, let me know because this place will take some beating! Superb!

Definitely five star experience. Highly recommend. Menu selection cleverly built at a reasonable price. Delicious burgers both, chicken and beef (that's what we had). Unique ambience that brings you back to the early 19th century with an accurate Art Deco Theme. Service impeccable, always nice, precise and attentive. Honorable mention for the Belgian waffle with vanilla ice-cream and crumbs of biscoff, outstanding.

My friend who has been to York many times and has walked passed the unobtrusive entrance I booked this based on the great reviews. What a find. Superb service by Adam. Delicious food. And two courses and a side for £18.95 midweek special an absolute steal. Scallops were perfectly cooked. Monkfish cheeks melted in the mouth. My friends beef equally as good. Excellent Spanish shire wine accompanied the meal. Not to be missed if you’re looking for great food and service.

Wow! Incredible venue. From the decor to the attentive staff, the gorgeous cocktails to mouth watering food with the most talented jazz act to put the cherry on top! Loved Loved Loved our time here. We had numerous cocktails upstairs then a lovely bottle of red to go with our food downstairs where you felt like you had been transported in time. The Jazz singer and sounds of the soulful trumpet really made our night, matched only by the stunning food. Thank you so much!

Great tapas style menu with good mix of meat/fish/vegetarian options. Service was efficient and friendly, food was excellent. Very reasonable prices too for York centre.
