Nola in York

Thoroughly enjoyed another visit to Nola. Food and ambience delicious. Brilliant service from our waitress Daisy who was so enthusiastic.

Nine of us went on a Saturday night and we were really impressed with the service. The food is delicious and all cooked to a high standard. The downstairs seating area is really nice and the ambience of the restaurant is perfect. As you can see by review I couldn’t fault it.

Absolutely loved this place. Food was amazing. Cocktails a must. Daisy, my waiter was so helpful from the moment I stepped in. Can’t recommend this place enough.

Went with 2 friends and we’re uni students so don’t often splurge on dinner and drinks - but it was well worth it at Nola and great value for money! Perfect for groups or couples alike. Food was lovely, cocktails exceptional, and the atmosphere was perfect. We went on a Tuesday so there was live jazz music and it created such a relaxed and joyful vibe. Served by Luis who was on it all night and really lovely. Will be back!

Fantastic food and service. Decor and music topped the whole thing off. My partners still insisting that the peppercorn sauce was one of the best he's ever tasted. We like going somewhere different that you can't make yourself better at home and this certainly achieved that. Can't beat a bit of alternative tapas.

Loved this place and is a nice change of pace in England. The food is all sort of tapas but a great variety of choice. Not all are winners, but generally very good to excellent. The Gin drinks are awesome and service is perfect. Highly recommended!!

Fantastic all around, Jack our waiter was a breath of fresh air he was funny, and gave great recommendations the pork belly was too die for, thank you Jack!!!

We went for my sister’s birthday. She thought it was going to be just us two, but her boyfriend and my partner were going to be there early as a surprise (she thought he was away travelling). The staff were very responsive to my request to keep this a secret when we arrive and made a wonderful fuss over her all evening. We all had a wonderful time, the food, cocktails and service was fantastic and we will definitely be back!

Poor size portion and the crab croquettes you can't taste the crab. Don't bother going really poor.

I can't rate the food, since we didn't eat. The classic cocktails, however, were excellent. We had a particularly good Brandy Crusta, a classic that is rarely seen on cocktail menus.

This was our first visit to Nola and it won’t be our last! The Food, atmosphere and service were fantastic! My Husband had the Glazed short Rib of Beef, Lamb Kofta & Dirty Rice. I had the Breaded Goat’s Cheese, Southern Fried Cauliflower from the Vegetarian/ Vegan Menu and we shared an additional dish of Mac ‘n’ Cheese (V), and a side portion of the Old Bay Seasoned Fries, (when I say shared, my Husband ate the majority!). We then finished our meal with Mississippi Mud Pie and Key Lime Pie with Ice Cream, again, these were delicious! The Morador Rosado Wine was nice and light, which was a great accompaniment to the food we chose.

The food was flawless. The service we received from Paolo was second to none! Even managed to catch some live music on the way out. Fantastic evening, great experience, highly recommend.

What a smashing place this is! Tremendous food and a great atmosphere, one of those places where near enough everything will be yummy so no need to stress too much over the menu. Daisy was also superb, they are lucky to have her. Will return 👍

I’ve been twice now and each time has impressed. I love service, the food is brilliant and the atmosphere is impeccable!

We had an amazing meal at this beautiful restaurant. The Gambas and Jambalaya were particularly excellent. The decor in art deco also adds to the experience. Our waitress Daisy was lovely, knowledgeable about the food and delicious cocktails. Nothing was too much trouble. Daisy was happy to chat and laugh and make a memorable evening for us on our last night of holidays in York. We are surprised this wonderful restaurant isn’t known well. It’s more than worth a visit once!

Very handy location from our stay at Judges Lodgings, the decor is superb, we dined downstairs and it looked like it was previously a very small cinema. I had scallop for starter and beef for main. Yes the portions are small but they are priced accordingly. Service was very good and staff were attentive. I would happily dine here again, booking recommended.

We had high hopes marred by several issues. Upon arrival when we'd booked a table in the music section so we could listen in, we were informed no music. Ok, we could deal with that disappointment but the music restaurant was 75% empty and there was a loud table with 6 very noisy ladies we were told this was our table immediately beside us. We asked to be moved and told our table was preassigned. The food was OK, though I had advised at time of booking of an allergy, they just gave us a book and said to look it up ourselves. Highlight, the puddings and leaving the very noisy ladies!

We dined downstairs for the jazz performance and the ambiance was fantastic. The jazz performer was excellent! The decor is very art deco, which was beautiful and very fitting. I liked how the restaurant wasn’t very bright and was quiet, with tables spaced nicely apart- it was a cosy, sophisticated vibe. My partner thoroughly enjoyed his food. I was mostly impressed with my food, despite having to leave my mussels as they were full of grit/sand and very unpleasant to eat, however my squid somewhat made up for that. The cocktail and alcohol selection is vast. We had cocktails; they were absolutely delicious! Can’t recommend the French martini enough! The waitress who served us all night was such an angel, and very attentive. I would certainly go again if we were to be back in York!

The best restaurant experience I've had for a while. Gorgeous decor and a cool, jazzy vibe. Food divine. Service excellent. Such a good value meal. Coming back for cocktails and food next time.

Tried here for the first time and was so impressed. The service, food, drinks and ambience were impeccable. We went because my 20 yo son chose it for his birthday meal. I didn’t totally buy in, but went with an open mind. The 4 of us had cocktails and chose various items from the food menu - all exceeded our expectations. Loved it! Special mention for the jambalaya - My husband said it was the best he ever tasted. I had teriyaki salmon which was divine. Key lime pie and chocolate fondant were sublime. We’d return in a heartbeat. Our waiter was charming, attentive but not intrusive, and offered recommendations. Fabulous service. All in all we were massively impressed and have recommended it to our friends and family.

We visited on Friday night for dinner whilst staying in York. The decor was beautiful especially the chandeliers. The staff were friendly and attentive and talked us through the menu. We had a variety of dishes between us which were all tasty. The cocktails were really nice.

It was a delicious meal that I and my friend enjoyed. But we received a poor service from a waitress due to attitude problem. Also we were there only an hour and it was not busy. I have to consider if I wanna go back next time

Visited for dinner and I was very impressed, food was delicious and great service, the food was brought out by Chef Danny, it was lovely to see a young and aspiring chef working within Nola. We also visited on Jazz night and it was lovely to hear live Jazz, 10/10 from me and I would definitely visit again!

I got a great pleasure to get a table when live jazz band played (every Tuesday and Friday). Fantastic atmosphere! Amazing food!! Superb service!!! Awesome drinks!! Doesn't matter if you're meat or vegie lover. You will find all type of food and taste is stunning. I definitely recommend and will return for sure.

Wow! This restaurant took me back to the 20’s, the atmosphere was great and the staff were lovely, very attentive. There are a lack of vegan options but they ever so kindly amended one for me to be vegan. The food I had was flavourful, definitely try their vegan jambalaya and vegan Mac and cheese. These were so good!

This is just an aground fantastic place to eat & drink. Every plate we had was awesome, drinks are delicious and the service/decor/atmosphere & music just make for a brilliant experience. Top notch!

Absolutely beautiful, the food, the staff, the atmosphere and decor, couldn’t fault anything. The food was stunning, full of flavour and verity (definitely recommend the crab arancini). All prepared to a high standard and brought out in a timely manner. Can’t thank you enough for accommodating myself and my boys so late this evening, after being turned away from a few restaurants. We managed to get some food here, if you haven’t been before, it’s a must to visit, we managed to catch some live music, the food was amazing and the staff very warm and welcoming! Will definitely be returning.. thanks again to all your staff. My boys loved the food and mock tails as did I 😊

I have had lunch in Nola on several occasions. The food has always been excellent. The menu has a variety of small plates and there will be something to appeal to everyone. It is reasonably priced and there are now lunchtime specials which are fantastic value. The restaurant has a stunning decor and the service is always friendly and efficient.

Great food, great staff and the service is first class

Visited whilst on a weekend break. Fantastic food, amazing cocktails( chocolate martini my new favourite) wonderful atmosphere, lovely staff, we visited on a Sunday where they had a singer entertaining which just added to the overall experience.

Absolutely amazing place. Went on a Friday for the Jazz downstairs. Arrived way too early but it was no problem for their amazing staff who served us cocktails until we could go downstairs. The food was sublime and the music made it even better. What a wonderful evening.

Food was fantastic. Had the 2 mains and a side on the special deal menu. The live jazz was an added bonus.

Had a lovely meal on here Friday, service was too notch, cocktails were delicious and the food was fab. We were seated upstairs and the atmosphere was nice. It was my birthday and they brought a mini chocolate pot with a candle and a little card which was a lovely thoughtful touch

Came here with my gf for an anniversary dinner in late February on a Saturday. Lucky enough to get a padded bench downstairs to share and we were both thoroughly impressed. Great cocktails and dishes, attentive service and unique atmosphere! If there's is a better restaurant in york, let me know because this place will take some beating! Superb!

Definitely five star experience. Highly recommend. Menu selection cleverly built at a reasonable price. Delicious burgers both, chicken and beef (that's what we had). Unique ambience that brings you back to the early 19th century with an accurate Art Deco Theme. Service impeccable, always nice, precise and attentive. Honorable mention for the Belgian waffle with vanilla ice-cream and crumbs of biscoff, outstanding.

My friend who has been to York many times and has walked passed the unobtrusive entrance I booked this based on the great reviews. What a find. Superb service by Adam. Delicious food. And two courses and a side for £18.95 midweek special an absolute steal. Scallops were perfectly cooked. Monkfish cheeks melted in the mouth. My friends beef equally as good. Excellent Spanish shire wine accompanied the meal. Not to be missed if you’re looking for great food and service.

Wow! Incredible venue. From the decor to the attentive staff, the gorgeous cocktails to mouth watering food with the most talented jazz act to put the cherry on top! Loved Loved Loved our time here. We had numerous cocktails upstairs then a lovely bottle of red to go with our food downstairs where you felt like you had been transported in time. The Jazz singer and sounds of the soulful trumpet really made our night, matched only by the stunning food. Thank you so much!

Great tapas style menu with good mix of meat/fish/vegetarian options. Service was efficient and friendly, food was excellent. Very reasonable prices too for York centre.

Aldo the Manager went above and beyond for us. Having had a very eventful journey up to York and our taxi not turning up we missed our booking. I had kept them informed that we were running late due to our journey and they amended our booking. When the taxi didn’t show i phoned to sadly cancel, but they found a solution and we arrived at 8.15pm. All the staff were attentive, helpful and Aldo came to chat to us and got drinks for us and when a table became available in the live jazz area downstairs the staff offered for us to move downstairs. Can’t say enough about Aldo and the team, thank you for enabling us to turn a challenging day in to a memorable and enjoyable meal with great food. Highly recommend.

New Orleans style restaurant in both atmosphere and food. Recommends you have 2 dishes and a side per person. I had the gumbo, the monkfish and a side of fries. Not really a seafood person but this was amazing. Girlfriend is vegetarian and had plenty of choice. She'd recommend the vegan jambalaya. Cocktails really nice too. Overall would definitely recommend.

We enjoyed the experience as such. It was a shame that the food was served on cold plates and was only lukewarm. Staff were attentive but the menu was advertised as £18.95 for two mains and a side. We were charged for every item and so the bill was over £12 more than expected. A small jazz band added to the atmosphere which was good.

We had an amazing evening with our son for his birthday. Cocktails were beautiful, we had lovely service, all our dishes were full of flavour. We loved the New Orleans theme which went across the music, drinks, food and design. We even had a nice little surprise for our son's birthday. Will definitely be back next time we're in York. 🤩

Nice restaurant with really nice decor. Enjoyed the food although did find it slightly expensive for some items. Cocktails were really good, service was ok, not the most friendly. Don't waste money on the Mac and cheese, tasted like it was out of a packet.

Hands down the freshest, well-balanced and delicious food I’ve ever ordered in the uk in 20 years. Second time in york, first time in Nola, and the octopus risotto was something indescribable- the buttery creaminess of the seafood and rice was unmatched- and I don’t even like risotto or octopus, it was my mums order! We took one spoon each and couldn’t stop staring at eachother in silence. The crab arancini were sooooo fresh and not heavy with incredible cause, and beef short rib was beaaaauuutifully marinated. I thought I was eating Michelin star food for under £20!!! The team were also so welcoming and considerate- our train. Had been delayed so we arrived at 7.10pm after their 2 mains 1 side for £18.95 ended, but they still honoured it! And amazing 20s jazz and such great vibes- such a shame we missed the live band, will have to come back when it’s live!!! Plleeaassseee open a Nolas in Nottingham, otherwise we’ll just have to make york our second home haha. Incredible night, made us start our trip with full bellies and big smiles!!

We booked early evening at this fabulous venue. This was a slight error on our part as we were planning to be up early the next day. However the welcome and the food were top notch. The decor is fabulous as were the cocktails, and the food was sublime. We will definitely be back for a late night live music date with you. Cocktails: Hurricane, Jackson Square for me and Cosmopolitans for Carol. (Please do note that the portions are smaller, this is stated, but the jambalaya was quite generous) Food:Jambalaya, Gumbo, Pork belly, Duck spring rolls. Sides: old bay seasoned fries and sweet potato fries. Desserts: Key lime and pecan pies. We couldn't fault ANY of it. Looking forward to a return visit for the full jazz experience

Went to Nola on Saturday night tried to get into a bar outwith Nola for cocktails every where was full so went to Nola to see if we could come in early for cocktails no problem we were ushered in to a very welcoming venue with great jazz music when it was time for dinner wow the food was fantastic the cocktails were excellent the staff were first class they couldn’t do enough for us will definitely be back the next time we are in York

Really lovely decor à la 1920 Speakeasy. The waiter was very helpful to guide us through the menu. The concept is small portions to be shared ... We were told two mains and a side each, which was okay but I feel that some might find this too little so maybe three mains may better. Very nice food though

From a former mystery diner from London, Nola was 10/10 for everything; drink, food, service and decor. In fact we both agreed this was our preference over a Michelin star 7 course tasting menu! We loved the set menu where you could taste 4 dishes at once and the friendliness and relaxed atmosphere and the cocktails were exceptional too!

We booked NOLA to celebrate our daughter’s graduation. What a wonderful venue. Not only did it have a 1920 American vibe it also had delicious food. Excellent, quick service and very friendly staff. They even gave our daughter a small graduation card and dessert. What more could you ask for. Thank you for making the evening special.

What a fabulous evening. Beautiful restaurant coupled with superb live Jazz. The food was top drawer. I had the Gumbo and this was excellent. Well worth a visit.

Lovely atmosphere really romantic, food fab, service 10/10.

The restaurant is a 10 minute walk from the nearest car park and easy to find. Inside it is very well decorated and the tables aren't too close together. The food was very tasty, however some of the portion sizes are quite small and some are what was expected. The table for 2 that we had was quite small and we had to eat in 2 separate courses as there wasn't room for everything.

So sorry this review is late especially after such a great evening that I promised to do a review. We booked Nola for my husband’s 50th birthday, the staff are attentive, the tapas like menu is great and a delight to try different foods. We ordered 9 dishes between the 2 of us which was perfect . Particularly favourites, king prawns, lamb kebab, pork belly and macaroni cheese. Wine and cocktails good too. My husband also had a cake for his birthday and a birthday card which was a very nice touch . The manager was great and made us feel very welcome on this special occasion . We will be heading back to York soon for another visit , thank you

6 of us enjoyed a really nice Saturday lunch. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, there was a good atmosphere and everyone very much enjoyed what we ate. There was a good selection of menu options including a few naturally Gluten Free options and...

We were accommodated without a booking on a busy Saturday afternoon. Served by pleasant, helpful and attentive staff but not intrusive. Food was delicious, a combination of brunch menu and small plates ordered. Exceptional quality and reasonable portions.

Late change of plan led to a late reservation enquiry on Sunday night, 14th Jan for my wife, daughter and I. It was not a problem for Adam and his team to accomodate with the option of a table later for some live jazz downstairs...
