Nola in York

‘Nolas’ is a beautiful restaurant with fantastic food . My husband and myself first discovered it last year whilst on holiday and this year on holiday we came with our two friends who had both celebrated their 70th birthdays , and we wanted to bring them somewhere special to eat . They like us loved it too ❤️. ‘Nolas’ has a fab ambience and the staff are just so lovely and helpful. ‘Nolas’ is well worth visiting if you are ever in York.

Really lovely server, so sweet and helpful! Food was very good. Warm and cozy and wonderfully decorated. Dirty rice was a little unexpectedly bland considering how outstandingly good everything else we ate was.

Went for a rare child free lunch. Service was v good, food arrived quickly and was delicious. Amazing cocktail menu, possibly the best I've seen! Chose some of the smaller sharing dishes and all fantastic, would return again to try some of the others.

Had an awesome evening dine out with our little one…every dish was just lovely,creamy texture .

The upstairs area is stunning, gorgeous decorations and lovely atmosphere. Downstairs is also very nice and more suited to a New York jazz vibe. I highly recommend the duck spring rolls, they were fantastic. All the food is well prepared and carefully made. The cocktail menu is also wide and they tasted great. Staff was lovely and attentive, and with quick service. Would love to come back again.

We came for lunch on Sunday as we were unsure of where to go but had heard good things about Nola online, it really didn’t disappoint. The food was incredible, the service was excellent, and all round it was well worth the money. We were served by Adam, and he recommended the special cocktail which he had created and it was so refreshing and tasty. The food was the best we’ve had while we have been staying over in York, especially the pork belly and the mussels. Definitely would recommend, the restaurant is beautifully decorated and has a really great atmosphere!

Possibly the most bizarre service we've ever had - the waiter made us feel really awkward and did the opposite of everything we asked, the room was crowded and noisy, and the food disappointed as it didn't tap into the cajun-style New Orleans/Louisiana vibe as much as it promised - safe to say, we skipped dessert. However, the live jazz musicians we listened to during our meal were pleasant and entertaining.

Had a fabulous experience at Nola. Right from being welcomed and served by Daisy who had such a wonderful customer service manner and was very knowledgable about the food and drink options. Then the food arrived and we weren't disappointed as every dish was well presented and delicious. Would highly recommend.

Loved this place, service really quick and pleasant welcoming staff, nice atmosphere, food was delicious 😋 We ordered gumbo, jambalaya, terriaki salmon, belly pork with sides of onion rings and fries. Desserts were raspberry sorbet and key lime pue. We couldn't finish everything. We would happily go back again.

An art nouveau styled restaurant on two levels. Excellent food served as small plates so you can try a few each or share more amongst several diners. Friendly and efficient service from very smartly dressed waiters. Altogether a great place.

Wow what an absolutely amazing place. Upon entering we were made to feel welcome...the staff love working here and it shows. Every single member of staff were friendly and attentive. The food and cocktails were simply sensational. My husband commented that it was the best food he's had in a very long time. We were celebrating my birthday and I was brought a mini dessert with a candle and a small birthday card. The attention to detail was very special. The surroundings are beautiful decorated in 1920's art deco style. Love love love this place can't wait to go back.

Staff are just stars, Daisy was up there with the most lovely waitress I've ever had, the guy who seated us was so lovely too. We ate nearly half the menu and it was all great, the place is beautiful, rousing roaring 20s. We had the best time, would definitely recommend.

Excellent service and cocktails

Came here whilst on a mini break and it was an incredible experience. We were served by some very lovely and enthusiastic staff and seated at the bar for drinks as we were very early for our booking. The decor alone was fantastic, but the cocktails were great too. The food was delicious and very good value. I'd like to add a special mention of Daisy, the lovely server that made our experience that much better. Definitely try this place out!

Gorgeous little restaurant with tasty food and an art-deco vibe that fits the menu. Cocktails were delicious and presented very well, with good range of choices. Food was very tasty - I don't often see cajun flavours in the UK so I would recommend coming to try it. Between two of us we had four main plates and two side plates followed by dessert, and this filled us up without making us feel too full. The staff were very friendly, especially our main server Daisy. We were very happy with our dining experience, and we will definitely come again when we are next in York.

The halloumi is amazing, would 1000% recommend, veggie section of the menu is great.

One of the best experiences while staying in York. Friendly greeted and felt very welcomed once entered the restaurant. The service is the quickiest, taking in mind it is a Saturday evening. 5 stars Absolutely loved our visit to Nola York! The vibe is chic yet relaxed, and the staff made us feel genuinely welcome. I had the belly pork – melt-in-the-mouth perfection with a gorgeous glaze – while my partner went for the burger, which was juicy, flavourful, and seriously satisfying. We shared a lovely glass of red wine and finished off with a rich, well-made coffee. Special mention to Aldo, who was amazing from start to finish – friendly, professional, and clearly runs a brilliant team. Everything was spot on. We’ll definitely be back!

Visited here last night after a long wait to get a table on a Friday night.. The restaurant is very small but lovely and romantic, I'm not usually one to complain about loud music but we felt for a restaurant setting it was too loud we could barely have a conversation and the room was that dark we couldn't see the menu without our torch from our mobile phone, the menu was ok but we didn't realise this was like tapas and portions were tiny.. so the waitress told us to order a few dishes but for me nothing went together... the fries were extremely skinny and way too salty so we didn't eat them.. best thing I had was the kofta and my partner said the jambalaya was ok but not spicey in the slightest as it said on the menu tbh nothing special... the dessert was nice I had the chocolate melt in the middle fondant but again tiny portion so for 7.95 was overpriced! Don't think we would rush back unless the menu ever changes.

The best place in York to eat! My daughter got us a reservation here for dinner on a live jazz night. I can't believe we've not been before! The sharing plates are ideal for a large group, and the menu is SOLID! We ordered about 10 plates for 6 people and it was perfect. roasted cauliflower was my favorite. Wine selection was great, recommend this Chenin Blanc! the service was above par, the atmosphere was magical, and the band was fabulous. Seriously, one of the best evenings out I've had in years!! Can't wait to return in July on our next trip to the UK.

Food was a mixed bag. Some elements were very good (e.g. ribs, wings, po boy sandwich) but others average (e.g. supermarket quality coleslaw, bland broccoli, sloppy Mac n cheese, warm rosé wine). For the price it was fine.

Well what a find ( if you don't live in York) absolutely fabulous atmosphere very chic 30's art decco vibe, the staff are all very attentive from the very first cocktail to the last offering of food, however if you have Sam as your server youll have an even greater experience. And the food....wow, hats off just an amazing night. Will definitely be on the list when we do York next, we will even try to book a Friday Jazz night, so 3 months of advanced planning need

We went to Nola on a recent trip to York. Really tasty tapas style food with excellent service. Highly recommended.

I had such high hopes for this and the reviews were all great but we were so so disappointed. It’s a huge tourist spot, the food was chewy and no better than your average pub fare. The service was terrible and the waiters were so grumpy. Not once did anyone ask how our food was or if everything was okay. If you are forced at gunpoint to go, order the ribs and the arancini. AVOID the monkfish!! Ridiculous portion. Huge disappointment, avoid at all costs.

Very slow drinks service for a not very busy restaurant. The food was lovely but waiting 20+ minutes for our second drinks was not good. No apology either.

This place was a hidden gem. We visit York regularly and have always just walked by this place until this time we decided to give it a go and we are so happy we did. The decor is lovely and the food is proper tasty. Service also thumbs up. We will return, maybe on a jazz night

Food was nice but nothing special. Interior upstairs absolutely beautiful and drinks very good. Service was very slow - despite drinking my cocktail within 20mins I had to wait an hour (not joking) to order my next. My liver thanks them but I was a little sad

I had this restaurant pop up on social media and I couldn't resist convincing my partner that we needed to go for my birthday meal Aimee, how fantastic are you?! So friendly, knowledgeable and just the right amount of enthusiasm. I had mentioned on my booking that we were attending on my birthday and a little chocolate morsel with whipped cream and a candle made its way to our table once we has eaten, thank you so much for that! Its absolutely worth visiting while the deal is on, we managed to try the octopus risotto and gumbo, things we haven't even seen on a menu before now! We couldn't eat a dessert (too full) so we opted to have the triple rum taster and asked Aimee to choose the rum for us as we don't normally drink rum. All the options were so tasty and different from each other so we got a really good experience The atmosphere is so good here, we were seated downstairs (chosen when booking) we missed the live jazz but the music and ambiance was awesome regardless Will be visiting again once we recover from this trip!

The staff were so lovely and the food is some of the best Cajun outside of Bew Orleans. We loved our visit.

Fabulous from start to finish. Came here when visiting York after looking for a good restaurant on trip advisor and we weren't disappointed. We had a warm welcome and were quickly shown to our seats. They have a great menu with plenty of choice for both vegetarians and meat eaters alike, plus a good drinks selection. The smaller portions are great as they allow you to enjoy more than one thing off the menu! The food was delicious and and the service was very prompt and attentive. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, especially our waitress Daisy. They were also very helpful and thorough helping to guide us through the menu in relation to allergies. We would definitely recommend Nola and would love to visit again and explore the menu some more.

Lovely place , lots of options including a fair few vegan and vegetarian ones too. We had the 2 small plates and a side offer which was great value. Food was delicious and service friendly and informative. Fully recommend.

Absolutely brilliant time here, we went as a group of 8 during a trip to walk the wall and couldn't fault the place, service was excellent and the staff couldn't have done more, the food was just wow, between us most things got on the menue got a try and everyone loved everything and the decor was amazing, only slite niggle was the sign out side blended in to next doors and was very high so was difficult to spot, and I'm sure making it easier to find would benefit the restaurant greatly, having said that we now know where it is and will definitely be back ..... well done

Absolutely faultless. We loved the decor and were sat at a great table. The servers advise 2 mains and a side each which was just right, and means you get to taste few dishes which was great. We had the grilled oysters, scallops, gumbo and beef bao buns, all were cooked to perfection. Our waiter was very attentive without being overbearing and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We'll be back.

Came here for an early Valentine’s Day meal, the 2 servers we had were amazing, really felt like they went above and beyond and always served us with a smile. service was quick, food was amazing, worth every penny. Will definitely be back to York to come back for more ☺️

We had a beautiful meal here on Saturday night. Everything we had we would order again upon returning but would highly recommend the monkfish in particular. Staff were friendly and helpful and food was served fairly quickly but was hot and fresh. Gutted we weren't there for the live jazz, would book a day they do that next time to get the full experience.

After seeing reviews we decided to try here for lunch, they have a special deal on with two small plates and a side dish for £20. There is a very wide choice so difficult to choose but we loved everything, the lamb kofta being a highlight. Have to say the small plates are not that small so amazing value. Service was fast served by a wonderful waitress.

Cannot fault our visit at all! We booked for a surprise meal for a relatives birthday and the team could not be more accommodating. They made the day really special for us all! The food was excellent, such good value for money and the service from Daisy was outstanding. Highly recommend a visit here whilst in York.

We got a last minute booking for a Sunday night, we were unsure what to expect. Wow. We were amazed. The food was fabulous, we were lucky to get a table downstairs and the Jazz music. This was also amazing and was the cherry on a fantastic cake. Loved it, great service, great food, great venue. If you get a chance to go I highly recommend it.

We arrived at Nola’s as a group of 8 and they sat us in the downstairs area,none of us had been here before but we will definitely return. The set menu had a really good selection and hard to choose, hallumi burger.onion rings and Mac and cheese was yummy. Service was excellent and the food arrived quickly as well.

This was our first visit to this exceptional restaurant. Stylish, romantic, yet vibrant. The menu, which is innovative, has a New Orleans edge to it. The dishes are small in volume, the recommendation is to order 2 main dishes & 1 side dish per person, although this is of course, customers perogative. Note', the prices of the dishes reflect their size, making your bill reasonable. The quality of the food is first class, as is the quality of the service, friendly & very efficient,( Thank you Aimee, our waitress). I can't praise this outstanding restaurant enough & thoroughly recommend a visit when you're in the historic city of York. (Can get busy, especially at weekends)

We visited last Sunday night for my partner's birthday. It was the first time I had been, we'd already looked at the menu online and it looked very promising. It didn't disappoint! The service was top notch, as was the food and the drink options. We had a variety of platters, all of which were excellent. We then enjoyed the live music provided by the resident jazz band, in a lovely relaxed atmosphere. A great venue, and we'll certainly be back again!

Visited on Tuesday 21st of Jan. Met at the door by a young man who showed us quickly to a seat. The service then became excellent when Rose approached the table with menus. Kind and informative. Food was first class, Cajun Monkfish, Prawn Po Boy and Dirty Rice. Mississippi Mud Pie for pudding. The art deco style and lay out of the restaurant is an excellent use of space. Only down side was it felt a little cold and there wasn't much atmosphere as it was quiet but we assume that was because if the time of year. Again, Rose was excellent and her service matched the high quality of the food

Delicious food in a beautifully decorated building. We had the garlic chili prawns, pork belly, teriyaki salmon, bread, olives and chocolate fondant. The food was some of the best we've tasted and genuinely could have eaten every dish on the menu! We would certainly come back and recommend. The staff were attentive and friendly.

Googled somewhere to eat whilst staying in York for a couple of nights and Nola did not disappoint! This is probably the best tapas we've ever had! We went for the spare ribs, southern fried Cauliflower, Jambalaya, Arancini, and 2 sides of Onion rings and sweet potatoe fries. This was part of a deal (2 mains and 1 side for £20). Huge compliments to the chef! We may even just go back again tomorrow. Extra shout out to the girl serving us (sorry, didn't catch her name) very quirky and soo sweet!

Amazing food and staff. Staff was so friendly and helpful. The portions of food is quite small but they do tell you that in advance. Probably one of the best service I’ve experienced. My boyfriend was so surprised with the little desert given to him for his birthday and it made his day. Thank you!

We went along on NYE. The food and service were excellent. The only disappointment was that we arrived early due to the fact it was heavily raining. We were told the venue was busy and asked to leave as our table wasn't ready. We were all dressed smartly for NYE celebrations but had to walk to a local pub in the pouring rain.

We ate a Nola on a busy Saturday night in December as a large table of 14 - and what an outstanding experience. From the moment we arrived the staff couldn’t do enough for us. The food and drinks were absolutely delicious and every member of our dining party was so complimentary! The menu is varied and offers a great selection (highly recommend the pork belly and beef medallions in particular). The cocktails are outstanding and the margaritas are the best I’ve ever had. Service was prompt and absolutely seamless to say we were such a large party. Decor, ambiance and atmosphere just makes this one of the top places to dine in the city. The quality is exceptionally high and the prices are really reasonable. Thanks for the perfect evening :)

Wanted to get a nice drink after the Xmas market and so glad we found this place. The decor is gorgeous. We sat by the bar so got to watch the staff make all the amazing cocktails which they seemed perfectionists in and our server Daisy was so friendly and attentive. Definitely plan to come back next year to try out the food with the live jazz music.

Dined here last night (15th) for partners 50th Birthday. From the minute we walked in the staff couldn’t do enough to make you feel welcome. Chester served us and is a credit to the venue; Informative and friendly made the experience completely satisfying. The food is impeccable and atmosphere stunning from the decor, the lighting and jazz music. We will be back!!!. Thanks to Aldo for the birthday surprise.

We came for our friends 21st birthday. We all ordered several cocktails and food. Unfortunately we kept getting told off all the time … for 1. Taking photos 2. Using flash 3. Playing a video 3. Dancing for a tiktok etc being reminded that there were more people in there restaurant not just us. When we were sat next to the bar on the top with nobody around except the bar team. All staff were lovely except the supervisor or manager who was the one telling us off. What a boring place to go for drinks. We were all so disappointed as we thought it would be nice to celebrate her birthday there. The supervisor (has a bun and circle black large earrings) was visibly rude to colleagues pushing and ordering them inhumanely. He even rushed through and knocked down my coat and just huffed and puffed instead of offering an apology or help. He seemed offended every time we giggled or spoke to each other. We had 1 cupcake leftover so we gave it to Jack our waiter and the supervisor laughed . Giving us evil looks all night. After not even 2 hours at our table we had to leave because of this negative experience. What a way to ruin a special birthday . Never coming again! Wish we booked our friend somewhere else. She was very upset because of this man.

We stumbled upon here as regular visitors of York looking for somewhere new to try and we werent disappointed! The cocktail selection is great and there's so much to choose from, the food was great, I had oyster mushroom bao buns and teriyaki salmon while my partner had the beef medallion and mussels! Our server, Daisy, was an absolute delight and made our whole experience even better! We were pleasantly surprised by the live jazz band downstairs, and managed to get a table for the bands last set thanks to Daisy! Overall a gorgeous experience and will definitely be booking again in the near future!

We had mistakingly booked ' Rustique ' restaurant but on arrival at ' Nola ' the receptionist arranged a table for us at our preferred time of 6.30pm. The food was excellent as was the wine. Our waitress Zara was perfect, knowledgeable and very pleasant. It was my wife's birthday and we were treated to free chocolate mouse and amaretto. The atmosphere was chilled and sophisticated. Will definitely return.

Our experience was tarnished because the manager with the man bun was incredibly rude, so unfortunately we won’t be returning. Never had to leave a bad review before!

Amazing night here at Nola. Our waitress Zara had only been there 3 weeks and she was so lovely and just the right amount of attentive. Food was gorgeous small-ish tapas portions but sooooo filling. We came to Nola for a delightful meal out whilst on holiday in York. We were served mainly by Jack, who was absolutely fantastic. You can tell that they care about their role, whilst not being pushy, we felt well looked after. We could not recommend this place enough! The food was devine, all the staff were impeccable, and the atmosphere was both sophisticated and joyful. 5 stars!

I booked a table at Nola for my mums’ birthday. It was a last-minute change of plan from an evening meal at a diff establishment to an afternoon lunch to accommodate family members travelling with children. Aldo was super swift to respond and book us in and on the day, staff, service, and food was EXCEPTIONAL. We had a great time as a family. The children absolutely loved the food (5 kids under 10 years). The southern fried chicken burgers were a hit. The octopus risotto, beef medallion, prawns, chicken wings, bao, lamb kofta, calamari were all super tasty and cooked to perfection. Staff were supportive to the fact there was no kids’ menu, but they would remove any spice and/or make things easier so that everyone had an enjoyable experience. On clearing the table, the team brought out a birthday dessert and card for my mum and we all sang happy birthday. The décor was art deco, the cocktails were delicious, the place was clean, and the washroom facilities were also kept to a high standard. We will most definitely be back again as we’d like to come (without the children) to experience the jazz in the evening. Well done to you Aldo and your team for giving us a memorable experience 😊

We were looking for a special place to eat for my partner's birthday treat, We chose Nola because it looked inviting and offered a range of sea food which we both love. We were served and looked after by Rose and Sarah, nothing was too much for them! The added lovely touch was a 'Happy Birthday' card and candle to blow out. We ordered small plates of mainly sea food which we shared while enjoying the ambience of the beautiful restaurant. Thank you Nola, Sarah and Rose for helping to make such a special day for us xxx

Nice service and atmosphere but food was average at best

Happened by chance, very nice and welcoming place, run by Italians, it's the place where we ate best in the days we were in York. Generous portions and average prices.

Love love love, went for my father’s 80th birthday, from the minute we walked in to the minute we left we felt welcome. Cocktails to die for, food was AMAZING, service was fantastic. This place was suggested by the air b&b we stayed at (this was also fantastic) will be definitely coming back. ❤️

We went for the Sunday evening Live Jazz, it had great atmosphere, lovely food and great music. To be honest at a very reasonable price. We will definitely visit again.

Great atmosphere, gorgeous food and friendly and helpful staff! My girlfriend and I went for my 30th birthday and the staff went out of their way to make it night special including a small suprise birthday pudding for me. Our waitress Daisy was especially kind and helpful, giving us recommendations and fun chat. Would recommend!
