I have to eat gluten free the staff wonderful the choice of gluten free items amazing and the quality was excellent far exceeds normal food places i have been to. These guys have got it right you need to book in advance as gets busy because its so good.

Went for my graduation dinner and it was just perfect

I was really looking forward to our visit to the restaurant, I must say l was very disappointed by the menu, I thought it was going to be a solely French menu as advertised, however I had Beef bourginion which was quite nice, my partner had risotto which I believe to be Spanish, the desert were ok, but quite dull, completely covered in caramel, which is very strange for tarte tatin, it was a special occasion, being our second anniversary ,I so was looking forward to trying French food for the first time , unfortunately I’m still waiting.

A sizeable group of us came here tonight for a friend’s daughters graduation. My wife and I suggested as we used to really enjoy their other (now closed) branch of Lendel Bridge when our son was at York Uni a few years ago! This visit brought back every memory of why this restaurant is so special. Fast cheery service, good wines, amazing food and solid value for money. The food is authentic, good quality and good portions, exactly as you would get in a good bistro in France. My wife, as soon as we left, said … we need to go back there soon. Praise does not come higher than that. Thanks for making a brilliant evening and occasion.

Really enjoyed our lunch at the well presented restaurant. The food was lovely and I would highly recommend the garlic bread which was divine. The pate was also excellent.

Lovely restaurant. Food is reasonably priced. Steak and chips were cooked and seasoned perfectly.

We went on Saturday evening without booking and one of the waiters said there won’t be a table until later on, so we left but then decided to book for the next day as we really wanted to try here. So went back in, to be greeted by an amazing head of house who said let’s see what she can do, and actually found us a table and let us know we had a few minutes until the set menu had finished if we wanted to have a quick look, which we did and ordered just in time! It is such a lovely place, the pictures, the colours, just everything was very pleasing to look at and it was lovely and warm. Me and my partner both had the French onion soup and leg of duck and they were both soo good!! The soups with the bread in and cheese on top, so so good we wanted some more straight after! The duck was lovely and the bottle of house red was great. When we come back to York someday this will be the first restaurant I go back to, and thank you for the lovely head of house who squeezed us in, you are a star! 🌟

First waiter we had was a bit rude. The food was very good, worth the visit. Crème brulé a little bit cold though. Still enjoyed it.

Absolutely wonderful meal. A lovely glass of fizz and candle on the dessert for the birthday girl. Delicious food including a perfectly cooked fillet steak. Excellent choice of vegetarian options. Bobby our server was a delight. Thankyou for looking after us (and providing us with a Big Spoon). We will definitely be back next time we’re in York.

Fantastic everything. We had the 2course set menu and it was delicious, potion size was enough to avoid overeating. Cooked well presented well. Beautiful.

The onion soup, and the toast with goat cheese on salad was delicious! The Coq au vin tasted more like Coq sans vin, disappointing. The sea bass was a little fishy, thin for the sea bass different from what I’ve had at other places. The only wine by the glass available is a Malbec :(

Had nice lunch with my wife. Service was friendly and ok. Starters were good and tasty. Wife’s tagine wasn’t too good. Check on the couscous. Just bland. Lemon Tarte fabulous. Crepe could didn’t need that much caramel sauce. Sometimes less is more.

First time visit but won't be the last. Superb food and the staff were fantastic.

Was greeted by a very rude head of house/waitress. She never said hello nothing, just said your table is upstairs, showed us to our table without a word.. RUDE… fortunately the waiter/waitress upstairs were very good and friendly. Food came out quick and was delicious. Pity it was spoilt by a rude unprofessional head of house waitress, maybe she needs more training.

We went in before a show for the set menu and were really impressed with the value for money. Would recommend the steak frites, really tender and cooked perfectly. Staff were also great. Only down point is that the restaurant is obviously very popular so we did feel a bit squashed in.

Amazing, I cannot explain how much LOVE the team tonight 19th October 2024 put into the service at every level. Its been one of the best nights I have had in several years. Great evening, the efforts made to customers is second to none. Additional i met a few fantastic customers on top of the staff. A young couple out with mud, dad / in laws. 5 nice people from over the pound including Zac and Rachel. Amazing couple, like them. I will remember them for a longtime. One day, I might even get to meet the wizard not far from oklahoma. Zac, I was felt how much our meeting was but it was always meant to happen. Good luck, best of luck guys.

Best meal out i've ever had. Came here with the mrs and wasn't dissapointed. She had Beef Bourguignon, I had the Pork Belly, and we shared a Charcuterie board to start. Absolutely bloody gorgeous. Bit heavy for a student budget, but absolutely worth it compared to prices anywhere else; you get what you pay for! This plus a nice bottle of wine came to about £90

Great food, great atmosphere, great service. A real gem. Its really nice to be able to make the most of the summer sun on the outside terrace. Be aware though, this restaurant is always busy so it's best to book. Our last visit was earlier today at 4pm when you would have thought that it would have been quiet, but far from it!

10/10...we had our wedding meal here.From the initial booking to the very moment we left,we had a lovely experience at this fine establishment.

We ordered from the set menu which you can utilise from 7pm up to 10pm I think, Monday to Thursday. Eating from the set menu saves quite a bit and is quite a good deal. We went just this last week. It was a very cold night. As I have a Blue Badge, there are some disabled spaces just outside the Hilton Hotel and then it is just a pleasant stroll round the corner to the Restaurant. The Restaurant is over two floors and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The Service is very efficient and professional, but also friendly. The seating was very comfortable and the temperature was good. Also, all 3 of us thoroughly enjoy our meals. So we are very pleased to advertise this do.

Superb "classic French Bistro" 2nd time visiting in 3 weeks. Excellent food, service just fab! Can't recommend highly enough. Fine dinings good..... but tasty basic french cuisine at the right price and cooked to perfection is WAY BETTER!! will be back xx👌

Absolutely fantastic evening at the York restaurant. It was recommended to us by locals for my partners birthday and I couldn’t be happier with the choice. The service was fantastic, we cannot fault the servers. The atmosphere was authentically French. The food was faultless, really beautiful flavours, incredibly fast to be served, I couldn’t recommend it more. We’ll certainly be back, thank you so much! We’d give 10* if we could!!

Delicious food served in a cozy restaurant! The salmon cakes and sticky pudding were exceptional! Service was impeccable! Highly recommend if you’re visiting York.

We stopped by for dinner, the employees were very friendly. It serves French style food, its cocktails are good, but some of the flavors on the meat menu are not very good. It wasn't very pleasant to see nerves in the meat. It's not a price/performance issue, it's a nice move not to add the tip directly to the bill.

Great french restaurant that looks deceptively small from the street but has alot of tables upstairs. Set menus were really good value and the food was of a high quality. Highlights for me were the French onion soup and the duck. Crab cake was so so. Recommended considering York's expensive prices!

I felt very let down at this restaurant unfortunately. The receptionist appeared unfriendly and unpersonable. The atmosphere wasn't intimate, far too many waiters and waitresses, I felt I was just a number rather than an individual. The food I ordered was very underwhelming to say the least. I found grit in both my olive dish and mussels that were served. Very poor.

Promises far more than it delivers. Very average food, over priced wine , and the pictures flatter the restaurant. Most certainly not a fine dining experience. Avoid.

Visited on Saturday to celebrate a 50th birthday. The food was delicious. We shared olives with bread for the starters and for mains, two had the prawn and crab linguine, one had the lamb and the other the chicken. All the meals were cooked well, hot and nicely presented. The wine we chose was really nice. The staff were really lovely and helpful. My only criticism and issue is that there was a leak in the gents. This was dealt with well by the staff BUT these staff were also waiting and serving food. I saw one arrive with a mop etc and then straight after serve tables without suitably cleaning their hands. Really bad in terms of hygiene. Sorry but I'm so glad that we weren't waited on or served by any of these or else I would nor have been able to eat my meal.

Great experiences at Rustique. Food is always top notch, lovely setting, decent price. Wife often visits aswell with the girls. Only complaint I always want more of my starter 😁

Been a number of times and always fabulous service from the staff. Food speaks for itself, the busy restaurant shows how great it is. There is a set menu at certain times and a good drinks list (inc cocktails).

Meet up with ex-colleagues once a year in York and this is our go-to lunchtime restaurant. Prix fixe menu is terrific quality and value and the wine list is excellent. Atmosphere and service is great. Highly recommended!

Great traditional French dishes in the heart of York! Food was hearty and rich, service was great! Recommend the Beef Bourguignon, and being a northerner, defo need extra gravy! Team were happy to accommodate my dietary requirements!

Where do i start! The staff were attentive and friendly, the food came out quickly and was absolutely fantastic (I would go as far to say it was the best meal i’ve ever had). I cannot fault a single thing. I recommend anyone interested in French cuisine to try this restaurant! Absolument formidable, bravo 👏🏻

Visited York 6 years ago ate here. It was so good that when we came back this weekend we booked again. Didn't disappoint. Great service fantastic food ample portions lovely staff what's not to like.

A menu that over promises and under delivers. The belly pork was dry on the top and had a lot of unrendered fat in the middle....the bottom of it was nice though. The fondant potato was quite dry and more like an under baked roast potato. The tarte au citron was ok but the base was a little thick and it could have done with being sharper. The chocolate pot was very dense and rich but not in a good way. The monkfish was quite nice but the courgettes were unexpectedly crunchy. The service was however quite prompt.

Women at the front miserable and unwelcoming but apart from that the best experience I’ve had at a restaurant, food service and toilets

The premises are nice, but the food was quite bland and in my opinion overpriced. It was not bad, but it barely had any taste. It was our last night in York, where we enjoyed lots of great food places, but finishing on this one was a real disappointment.

Travelling from the US and by far the best meal and service of the trip so far. Food was great and the hostess and staff attentive and charming. Everyone has their favourite go to place and this is mine. The food is always perfect, the atmosphere upstairs is just great come summer or winter. The staff are also good fun to chat to, and follow this up with great service

My eldest is vegetarian and usually restaurants are quite uninspired in their offerings but his leek, mushroom and cheese tart which was a generous serving and he said it was delicious. The few cocktails we had went down well, although there was a mistake in one order, they did offer to rectify it. I would say this was good for adults or children with refined tastes, but there is no specific children's menu (at least none that I saw). Definitely would go again. Merci!

Easily one of the best dining experiences I've ever had, very good food, everybody at my table loved what they had. The Beef Bourgingon was extremely tender and flavoursome, my tagine was such a brilliant adaptation for a vegetable based dish with the kofta. But most of all was the homely and attentive service from the kind staff, I don't say it lightly but I would say Rustique has offered the best customer service I've ever had in a restaurant in terms of real genuinely caring staff who will go out of their way to help and make the dining experience great.

Booked here for a group of about 20 friends earlier in the year. Great food, probably the best restaurant I’ve been to in a long time. No negatives, just awesome food and friendly staff. They had 2 menus available at slightly different price ranges allowing people to suit their budget but both were great. Everyone else in the group had similar feelings as far as I know!

Today 23rd July, is our wedding anniversary, 10 years ago we were married and had our reception at Rustiques Lendal, tonight for our anniversary we booked Rustiques Castlegate, and was not disappointed, the good and service was fantastic without fault, we will certainly be going back again when we revisit York.

A great evening, the service was just right. Our main waiter had only been there for a month and already his knowledge was amazing. All the staff we met were friendly and efficient. The food was classic French cuisine.

Had a fabulous meal here while on a day trip to York with 2 friends. We all had the 3 course set meal. 1st class food, service & atmosphere..... I recommend Mussels to start. King Prawn & crab linguine for main & lemon tart for desert 👍👏👍

Rustique is a solid restaurant for anyone thinking of visiting York. In a city that has a surprising number of French restaurants, Rustique makes a convincing case to be named the very best. The atmosphere is very warm and comfortable, exactly what you expect of a French bistro. The walls are covered in art nouveau film posters, and the seats are always stocked with very comfortable cushions. The service is lovely. The staff are all very smiley and welcoming. Although, it's not quite on the same level as Blue Barbakan or the Fat Badger. The food here is very good. When I visited, I tried the Escargots (snails), Cuisses de Grenouilles (frogs’ legs), and the Paupiettes de Poulet (chicken wrapped in bacon). Whilst I have no complaints about the food, I do think that my ordering could have been a lot better. The snails were as good as snails can be. They were chewy and covered in a generous helping of garlic butter. The frogs’ legs were, likewise, subjectively good. The meat was more like poultry than fish (which I expected), but the bones were very thin and delicate. It was a task separating them from the meat. If I were to visit again, I don't think that I would choose either of these dishes as a starter. Instead, I would probably opt for the French Onion Soup, which my girlfriend and I stared at with envy, as bowl after bowl was brought to the other tables in the restaurant. The Paupiettes de Poulet was also very good. The chicken was cooked well, and the sauce, which accompanied it, provided a nice little kick of flavour. However, I must admit, my girlfriend's order of the Canard Confit (confit duck) with Dauphinoise Potatoes completely eclipsed it. Overall, I would definitely visit again, though I would order (as I say) the French Onion Soup and the Canard Confit on the second time around.

Had a variety of food including a cauldron of mussels, pork shank, venison, french onion soup, and dessert. Portion sizes were ample, especially the pork shank. Service was friendly and attentive, environment was lively and pleasant on the day we were there.
