Rustique Lendal in York

I've been to Rustique many times with either just my wife or with my family, we even had our wedding reception here, each and every time we have recieved perfect service and amazing food with a lovely atmosphere. The set menu has loads of choice and is great value for money but there is also the main menu with plenty of exceptional choices. Rustique is the perfect place for a celebration or simply as a treat.

Incredible food, incredible atmosphere, incredible service. Ethan is an absolute credit to the establishment. Words can't describe how amazing this place is. A definite must visit.

Rustique in York is an absolute gem if you’re a fan of French food. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, with that perfect mix of rustic charm and a lively, friendly buzz. The staff were welcoming and attentive without being overbearing, which instantly made us feel at ease. We started with the French onion soup, and honestly, it was everything you’d hope for rich, deeply flavorful, and topped with just the right amount of melted cheese. It was the perfect way to start the meal. For mains, we went for the chicken with dauphinoise potatoes and the mussels, and both were just fantastic. We also ordered chips and ratatouille as sides, and they were spot on. The chips were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and the ratatouille was packed with flavor, full of perfectly cooked vegetables in a rich tomato sauce. By the end of the meal, we were completely satisfied but already thinking about what we’d order next time. If you love French food and want somewhere that serves up incredible flavors in a relaxed and welcoming setting, Rustique is definitely the place to go. Highly recommend!

Valentines day meal was superb pork belly for my partner I had the pot of muscles and we had pina colada cocktails sticky toffee pudding and chocolate mousse we sat up stairs lots of room lovely staff and atmosphere 😀 100% recommend 😀

You must go to the Rustique and try their onion soup, then pork belly, followed by the chocolate pot....you will not find a better onion soup anywhere, and the pork was sublime. Service was superb and faultless, Dee dee knew all her products and recommended the pork belly, and the onion soup was recommended by a receptionist in the Hilton, they were not wrong. I would travel over 200 miles to return to this restaurant just for the excellent service and the food. Please book before you go as this restaurant is booked up solid.

Lovely place, not a huge menu which is good in my opinion, food was excellent, the prices are reasonable too, we will definitely return.

Beautiful ambience and friendly service as soon as you walk in. I had the escargot to start. They were cooked perfectly and smothered in garlic and herbs clarified butter sauce. The extra dipping bread was a necessity. 11/10 would recommend to everyone. My husband had the scallops on a Leek puree. They were soft, sweet, and portioned brilliantly. For mains, I had the confit duck leg with potato dauphinoise. My duck leg was silky and tender, with a hint of lemon peel about the skin and meat. The potatoes dauphinoise were creamy, garlicky, and so luxurious. My husband had the venison with garlic mash. The venison cut like butter, and there was a nice nutty flavour of roasted garlic in the mash. We will absolutely be coming back next time we're in York.

Had a lovely three course set meal with la soupe à l’oignon, coq au vin, finished off with a delicious crème brûlée. The portions were absolutely hearty and I could have easily shared my main with plenty for two people. The environment is casually stylish — no need to dress up. The service was prompt, thorough, and friendly all around.

Not one to really write a review but the service was so bad I had to. The woman who served us was throwing evils at us as soon as we sat down me and my partner aren’t ones for fancy dress so we just came in a casual wear and you could tell from the start she judged us off of that. Further more when I wanted the bill I gave her a little smile to show we needed the bill she proceeded to give me evils again and walked off. It’s sad to write a review on this as the food was really good unfortunately bad service and atmosphere completely ruined the food. Wouldn't recommend to anyone just in case they had the same experience we did

A beautiful restaurant with pleasant service and a varied set menu. I've visited here many times and have never been disappointed. There's a wide variety of starters, mains and desserts to choose from with something for everyone. I particularly enjoy the chicken dishes. Well worth booking though as it does get busy.

Just had our second visit to Rustique. We love it, feels very French. The food is always delicious and the service very good. A warm welcome on arrival and friendly staff throughout the evening.

Service was great as normal. We were not too hungry so I just had a beef bourgignon which was delicious and my wife tried tagine marocain de légumes with apricot bulgar & spices which she thought very nice, 'not too spicy'. A very pleasant visit by two visitors to York.09

We visited this charming restaurant on our recent trip to York. The restaurant is gorgeous and the wait staff are very attentive. There is step access and I didn’t see a lift, so may not be suitable for those who can’t do steps, but please check with the restaurant as they may have disabled access. The food was impeccable, partner and the French onion soup, duck breast and crème brûlée (the best he’s ever had as well). I had the baked Camembert, pork belly and a baileys. We had 2 soft drinks and a bottle of wine and it was about £115 plus tip. The decor is old school French and the ambience of the restaurant was just right for a cosy meal. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for somewhere to eat in York.

Food was very good. Steak with chips were perfect. Would recommend to anyone only visiting.

Visited early Sunday evening. The place was busy with a lively atmosphere. Mixture of families, couples and groups.Staff friendly throughout. Set menu is good value. French onion soup and steak had good reviews from our party. Mussels were plump and delicious. House wine was pleasant. Would return.

Cosy atmosphere, friendly staff and best potatoes I've ever had

Starting with the entrance, which was beautifully decorated for Christmas! This looks like a really small restaurant but it’s very deceiving and we were taken upstairs which is huge!! I was so torn by the choices but as we were there on a Thursday, we opted for the 3 courses for £26.95. Which was really good value and the portion sizes were really good. The food was delicious as were the cocktails and the service was brilliant. Attentive without being over the top and also gave us space, loved the servers idea which was for us to put the menus at the end of the table when we were ready to order and he would come over. All in all highly recommended.

We came here as a group of 16 on New Year's Eve. The service was absolutely fantastic, everything ran so smoothly even with such a big group. We also had made several changes to our booking previously, and the staff had been so friendly and accomodating when we did this. We had a great evening and the entire group was very happy with the meal and service. The food was excellent. I've ate at Rustique several times now, and the meal has been delicious each time. I will definitely be back again.

Brilliant place to eat in York

Food arrived far too quickly, clearly microwaved. Food lacked flavour and any depth. Would not return.

10/10! Came here for a Christmas Eve dinner and it did not disappoint. The portions were massive, the food was delicious and the service great! Thank you!

We came here for dinner for my partners birthday as he loved the look of the set menu, it certainly didn’t disappoint. The place has a wonderful vibe to it and the food was top notch. The staff were also very attentive and drinks were good too. Would definitely visit again if in the area - the set menu offers fantastic value for money.

Absolutely loved it brought our friends with us and it didn't disappoint we gad a fabulous time certainly cheeed us up after such shocking wet weather

14th December York really really busy, we dropped in on the off chance, no reservation the restaurant was really busy, the staff were amazing against all the odds found us a table , The menu was amazing, vegetarian, pescatarian gluten free and vegan, all our requirements were met in full , the team were attentive informative but not intrusive. Nothing was a problem.the food was full of flavour and the best fresh ingredients. We would highly recommend this restaurant for its atmosphere it’s menu and it’s staff and the costs are on point We will be back Thankyou

Great meal and great friendly service

Really cosy restaurant and food was so tasty. Everyone on the table were happy with their main and dessert. I had duck main, it was packed with flavour without being too heavy or rich. My dessert was lemon tart which was fresh and zingy. The drink service from one member of staff was quite terrible (drinks were ordered but never turned up and was just stood at the bar) but others stepped in and made sure we got the drinks we ordered (bottle of wine and water) . Overall great experience and lovely warm atmosphere for a cold evening

Arrived early for booking but fitted in for Birthday meal. Greeted with complimentary drink for birthday girl, nice touch. Drinks ordered and delivered quickly. Food arrived shortly after beautiful prawns. Although two scallops were a bit disappointing. Mains came both parties having steaks. Both cooked as ordered and with skinny chips plus peppercorn sauce (minus garnish). Pudding ordered after looking at menu. Cream brulé and crêpes both hit the spot. Service was on point and not intrusive. Busy on Tuesday night but Christmas market on.

Enjoyed an outstanding three-course meal at the very busy Rustique resturant on a Monday night. French Onion soup was exceptional, Steak Frites well-cooked and generous portions (especially given we were eating off the Set Menu), tarte citron one of the best I've ever had. All in all, a delicious meal. Will definitely be visiting again when I'm next in York.

Great food service and atmosphere best french resturant I been to outside of France

Visited on a Saturday night and very busy. Friendly staff and a cosy atmosphere. Went for the set menu £22.95 - delicious French onion soup with large cheesy croutons and a 6oz rump steak and French fries, also very tasty. Even had room for a dessert and again the lemon tart and sticky toffee pudding were very good. If I have one criticism, it all came too fast - 3 courses in one hour and 10 minutes isn’t a very relaxing meal.

I have to eat gluten free the staff wonderful the choice of gluten free items amazing and the quality was excellent far exceeds normal food places i have been to. These guys have got it right you need to book in advance as gets busy because its so good.

An outstanding experience. Highly recommend. Be sure to book as not surprised a restaurant providing such delicious food and very high standard of service is full to capacity. The welcome from the young man front of house was first-class as was the service of his staff and all courses were cooked to perfection. Our first visit but most certainly not our last. Went for my graduation dinner and it was just perfect

I was really looking forward to our visit to the restaurant, I must say l was very disappointed by the menu, I thought it was going to be a solely French menu as advertised, however I had Beef bourginion which was quite nice, my partner had risotto which I believe to be Spanish, the desert were ok, but quite dull, completely covered in caramel, which is very strange for tarte tatin, it was a special occasion, being our second anniversary ,I so was looking forward to trying French food for the first time , unfortunately I’m still waiting.

A sizeable group of us came here tonight for a friend’s daughters graduation. My wife and I suggested as we used to really enjoy their other (now closed) branch of Lendel Bridge when our son was at York Uni a few years ago! This visit brought back every memory of why this restaurant is so special. Fast cheery service, good wines, amazing food and solid value for money. The food is authentic, good quality and good portions, exactly as you would get in a good bistro in France. My wife, as soon as we left, said … we need to go back there soon. Praise does not come higher than that. Thanks for making a brilliant evening and occasion.

Really enjoyed our lunch at the well presented restaurant. The food was lovely and I would highly recommend the garlic bread which was divine. The pate was also excellent.

Consistently excellent food and service here.

We went on Saturday evening without booking and one of the waiters said there won’t be a table until later on, so we left but then decided to book for the next day as we really wanted to try here. So went back in, to be greeted by an amazing head of house who said let’s see what she can do, and actually found us a table and let us know we had a few minutes until the set menu had finished if we wanted to have a quick look, which we did and ordered just in time! It is such a lovely place, the pictures, the colours, just everything was very pleasing to look at and it was lovely and warm. Me and my partner both had the French onion soup and leg of duck and they were both soo good!! The soups with the bread in and cheese on top, so so good we wanted some more straight after! The duck was lovely and the bottle of house red was great. When we come back to York someday this will be the first restaurant I go back to, and thank you for the lovely head of house who squeezed us in, you are a star! 🌟

First waiter we had was a bit rude. The food was very good, worth the visit. Crème brulé a little bit cold though. Still enjoyed it.

Absolutely wonderful meal. A lovely glass of fizz and candle on the dessert for the birthday girl. Delicious food including a perfectly cooked fillet steak. Excellent choice of vegetarian options. Bobby our server was a delight. Thankyou for looking after us (and providing us with a Big Spoon). We will definitely be back next time we’re in York.

The onion soup, and the toast with goat cheese on salad was delicious! The Coq au vin tasted more like Coq sans vin, disappointing. The sea bass was a little fishy, thin for the sea bass different from what I’ve had at other places. The only wine by the glass available is a Malbec :(

Had nice lunch with my wife. Service was friendly and ok. Starters were good and tasty. Wife’s tagine wasn’t too good. Check on the couscous. Just bland. Lemon Tarte fabulous. Crepe could didn’t need that much caramel sauce. Sometimes less is more.

Soup of the day to start followed by Moroccan Tangine

First time visit but won't be the last. Superb food and the staff were fantastic.

Was greeted by a very rude head of house/waitress. She never said hello nothing, just said your table is upstairs, showed us to our table without a word.. RUDE… fortunately the waiter/waitress upstairs were very good and friendly. Food came out quick and was delicious. Pity it was spoilt by a rude unprofessional head of house waitress, maybe she needs more training.

We went in before a show for the set menu and were really impressed with the value for money. Would recommend the steak frites, really tender and cooked perfectly. Staff were also great. Only down point is that the restaurant is obviously very popular so we did feel a bit squashed in.

Amazing, I cannot explain how much LOVE the team tonight 19th October 2024 put into the service at every level. Its been one of the best nights I have had in several years. Great evening, the efforts made to customers is second to none. Additional i met a few fantastic customers on top of the staff. A young couple out with mud, dad / in laws. 5 nice people from over the pound including Zac and Rachel. Amazing couple, like them. I will remember them for a longtime. One day, I might even get to meet the wizard not far from oklahoma. Zac, I was felt how much our meeting was but it was always meant to happen. Good luck, best of luck guys.

Best meal out i've ever had. Came here with the mrs and wasn't dissapointed. She had Beef Bourguignon, I had the Pork Belly, and we shared a Charcuterie board to start. Absolutely bloody gorgeous. Bit heavy for a student budget, but absolutely worth it compared to prices anywhere else; you get what you pay for! This plus a nice bottle of wine came to about £90

10/10...we had our wedding meal here.From the initial booking to the very moment we left,we had a lovely experience at this fine establishment.

Great food, great atmosphere, great service. A real gem. Its really nice to be able to make the most of the summer sun on the outside terrace. Be aware though, this restaurant is always busy so it's best to book. Our last visit was earlier today at 4pm when you would have thought that it would have been quiet, but far from it!

We ordered from the set menu which you can utilise from 7pm up to 10pm I think, Monday to Thursday. Eating from the set menu saves quite a bit and is quite a good deal. We went just this last week. It was a very cold night. As I have a Blue Badge, there are some disabled spaces just outside the Hilton Hotel and then it is just a pleasant stroll round the corner to the Restaurant. The Restaurant is over two floors and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The Service is very efficient and professional, but also friendly. The seating was very comfortable and the temperature was good. Also, all 3 of us thoroughly enjoy our meals. So we are very pleased to advertise this do.

Absolutely fantastic evening at the York restaurant. It was recommended to us by locals for my partners birthday and I couldn’t be happier with the choice. The service was fantastic, we cannot fault the servers. The atmosphere was authentically French. The food was faultless, really beautiful flavours, incredibly fast to be served, I couldn’t recommend it more. We’ll certainly be back, thank you so much! We’d give 10* if we could!!

Delicious food served in a cozy restaurant! The salmon cakes and sticky pudding were exceptional! Service was impeccable! Highly recommend if you’re visiting York.

We stopped by for dinner, the employees were very friendly. It serves French style food, its cocktails are good, but some of the flavors on the meat menu are not very good. It wasn't very pleasant to see nerves in the meat. It's not a price/performance issue, it's a nice move not to add the tip directly to the bill.
