An oasis in the tourist area, nice service and as in many reviews we took the set menu… strongly recommend it!

I enjoyed my meal here and the service was super friendly, its a shame that my friend got violent food poisoning after our meal here and it wrote off part of our trip while she tried to feel better.

The lovely heated outdoor patio was perfect for our evening in York. The meal was very good and service adequate.

Always an absolute favourite. The food is always brilliant and the set menu is such good value for money for the portion quality, sizes and different things you can try. A must to try whilst you are in York and fancy a special but chilled vibe dinner

Booked this venue for lunch on a day trip to York. The food was excellent and the staff were attentive and couldn't do enough for you. The fixed menus had great options and excellent value. Would strongly recommend.

The people here were super friendly and very service oriented. They also did a great job when my partner expressed his disappointment with the undercooked and crunchy mushroom risotto. The poitrine de porc (pork belly) was tasty - it literally fell off the fork; the apple puree and cabbage was also a nice complimentary touch. There was something off with my mojito - I asked how they made it with no clear answer. It tasted like it had some kind of artificial or pre bottled flavor to it. It reminded me of Robinson’s or simple syrup with little to no actual fresh lime flavor. If you want a good mojito go to Turtle Bay. The Montepulciano my partner had was very well enjoyed. Overall underwhelmed, but great staff.

Great place this, would travel all the way to York just to go here again and will absolutely revisit next time I come to York.

French Bistro ? There are pictures of the Eiffel Tower on the wall and there are Escargot, French onion soup and mussels on the menu. Soup was ok. It’s rustic with wooden tables , busy atmosphere and music from the 80’s playing. The fillet steak was very good , nicely seasoned and cooked to your liking. Avoid the escargot at all costs. Rubbery , tasteless and served with French bread to soak up the non existent garlic butter. The mushroom risotto is to be avoided also. Lumpy, and extremely bland. What was amazing was the service. Mehmet , our waiter , was outstanding, attentive, caring and a credit to the restaurant.

The restaurant atmosphere was really good and the French onion soup very nice. It went downhill from there with a classic steak and frites being so tough and full of gristle that it rendered the meal uneatable. A shame overall as service was good, just not good on produce selection. I would probably try a pub to be honest, feels like a better bet.

One of the best French dining experiences I’ve had. The food was beautifully balanced and full of rich, authentic flavors. I had the French onion soup and pork shank – both incredibly tasty and generously portioned. Finished off with a lovely crème brûlée. The service was excellent throughout. A must-visit if you’re craving French cuisine in York!

Me and my mother went here for Good Friday after visiting the nearby York Museum and I seriously cannot recommend it enough! Someone leaving the restaurant told us to try it as we reviewed the menu, saying it was the best food they had ever tasted, so we took it as a sign to continue and I am so glad we did. The service to start was wonderful, we were greeted with a friendly welcome and an atmosphere of warmth and class with the beautiful decoration of the building within overall. As we sat down, our water was poured for us as we read over the menu, ordering bread for our starter which was perfectly satisfying while we awaited our main dish. For our main (which was delivered fast), salmon over mediterranean vegetables, and I have never tasted a better dish! The salmon was tender, the skin succulent and crispy, the vegetables and sauce flavourful and comforting, overall very filling and scrumptious, we both enjoyed it thoroughly. To finish, we ordered the ‘Pot au Chocolat’ which was rich and creamy, the shortbread perfect and not at all dry, it was a wonderful end to our meal. We enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere a while, admiring the many pictures hung upon the walls while listening to the well-chosen music before leaving. I highly recommend this restaurant, thank you for serving us this night!

It was recommended and it was ace! The best french onion soup I've had and the pan fried duck with cherry sauce was delicious. My partner had the tiger prawns which come shelled and salmon which came in a ratatouille. Very efficient service and friendly staff.

We both had soup for starters then steaks for the main. Cooked to perfection. Lovely place in the centre of York.

Service and food was excellent. Freshly cooked, arrived hot and tasted authentic. Busy and quite noisy but would definitely go again.

We had the set menu, which was available until 7pm, and offered a really good choice. I had this fritot de brie starter then steak frites with green peppercorn sauce, both delicious. Lovely decor and ambience.

Our first visit Saturday 29th March, but we were accompanied by friends who have been numerous times. Service was impeccable. All the staff were attentive and happy! Food was absolutely outstanding. We all had starters and every one was cooked to perfection. 3 of us had venison for mains. Cooked to perfection and presented perfectly. Crepes for dessert! Wow Would I recommend Rustique? Absolutely!! We can’t wait to return.

What an explosion of flavours, and at such reasonable prices! We went in the daytime & took advantage of the three courses offer. I had lamb kofta, my wife had the mussels. Both superb and generous. For main, we both had the crab and langoustine linguine We were Justin HEAVEN with the flavours - one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had! Finally, we had the banana crepes with I've cream. OMG 😳😳😳😳😳 What a stunning way to end a perfect meal! Beautiful decor, friendly, efficient staff, all in all, a real treat!

Came as a couple for my wife’s brithday, couldn’t fault anything the entire night. A welcome glass of Prosecco for my wife for her birthday, attentive but not intrusive service, perfect food.. highly recommended

I've been to the York Rustique once before after a visit to Richmond Rustique, so a return visit whilst in York was a no brainer. The quality of the food for the price explains why booking in advance is a must. Highly recommend, can't wait to go back.

What a find!!! We ordered from the set menu very good value for money. Lots of choice. Couldn’t fault the food at all it was lovely . I would advise booking it was really busy there but it was a Saturday afternoon. Really friendly staff too. I will return if in the area again.

My husband and I spent the morning at the Castle Museum and we're ready for a light lunch when we stumbled on Rustique. What a fantastic find! We both enjoyed the potato leek soup and the scallop appetizer. We'll be going back, probably tomorrow!

Always good food with friendly staff

This lovely French restaurant is a gem in the heart of York. The Christmas decorations were gorgeous and the atmosphere was jolly and vibrant. Their interesting cocktail menu did not disappoint, the Rustique and the French were both so delicious. We had scallops to start which were seared perfectly. For main I had salmon which was crispy on the outside and succulent on the inside. My boyfriend had the special - rack of lamb - and said it was the best lamb he had ever had. To finish, we both had the banana crepe which we both loved. What a great place to have our last evening out in York :)

I recently dined here with my wife. The steak was excellent; tender and well-cooked. From the street, the restaurant looks small and charming, but we were seated in a large, noisy upstairs room, which was disappointing. Additionally, the wine selection was poor for a French restaurant. The available reds by the glass had low Vivino ratings (3.1, 3.2, and 3.6), well below average. A better wine selection would have improved the experience.

Great restaurant which is a favourite for us and our friends when we meet up in York every couple of months. Food is lovely, reasonably priced with set menus or a la carte. The Coq au Vin is fantastic, well worth a try if you like chicken. Staff are friendly and efficient. There's a great range of drinks to suit all types of drinkers, including a good wine list. We tend to go late afternoon when it's not too busy as it does fill up towards the evening.

Both food and service were exceptional.

The food was fantastic, as was the service. The set menu is great value for money. The table positioning is a little awkward in places, which meant that we felt a little surrounded.

Henry made me feel welcome and was very attentive. Recommended me set menu it turned out pretty good.

Unfortunately when booking a table here my reservation was transferred to their branch in Richmond even though I was in York. I found the manager very rude, abrupt and impolite when dealing with me and my guests. I suggest the manager attends a course on customer relations.

I dined yesterday with my partner and some family members we each had the set menu which was fantastic value for money! The garlic mushrooms and the French onion soup were stand out dishes for us, the steak was also incredibly tasty and tender. Just enough to fill you up without making you feel overly full. The whole ambiance was amazing, relaxed and different from anywhere else in York. I even got a free glass of fizz for my birthday! Very happy we chose rustique for my birthday meal and we will most definitely be back! Thanks again for a memorable birthday dinner! x

Lovely decor inside, had 3 course set menu and the food was exquisite.

Would have loved to give a higher review but refused service as a single person (twice after returning at recommended time from the front desk) on the 2nd time a couple who entered same time as me were served immediately with no fuss.

Wonderful French bistro in the heart of York

I've been to Rustique many times with either just my wife or with my family, we even had our wedding reception here, each and every time we have recieved perfect service and amazing food with a lovely atmosphere. The set menu has loads of choice and is great value for money but there is also the main menu with plenty of exceptional choices. Rustique is the perfect place for a celebration or simply as a treat.

Rustique in York is an absolute gem if you’re a fan of French food. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, with that perfect mix of rustic charm and a lively, friendly buzz. The staff were welcoming and attentive without being overbearing, which instantly made us feel at ease. We started with the French onion soup, and honestly, it was everything you’d hope for rich, deeply flavorful, and topped with just the right amount of melted cheese. It was the perfect way to start the meal. For mains, we went for the chicken with dauphinoise potatoes and the mussels, and both were just fantastic. We also ordered chips and ratatouille as sides, and they were spot on. The chips were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and the ratatouille was packed with flavor, full of perfectly cooked vegetables in a rich tomato sauce. By the end of the meal, we were completely satisfied but already thinking about what we’d order next time. If you love French food and want somewhere that serves up incredible flavors in a relaxed and welcoming setting, Rustique is definitely the place to go. Highly recommend!

Valentines day meal was superb pork belly for my partner I had the pot of muscles and we had pina colada cocktails sticky toffee pudding and chocolate mousse we sat up stairs lots of room lovely staff and atmosphere 😀 100% recommend 😀

You must go to the Rustique and try their onion soup, then pork belly, followed by the chocolate pot....you will not find a better onion soup anywhere, and the pork was sublime. Service was superb and faultless, Dee dee knew all her products and recommended the pork belly, and the onion soup was recommended by a receptionist in the Hilton, they were not wrong. I would travel over 200 miles to return to this restaurant just for the excellent service and the food. Please book before you go as this restaurant is booked up solid.

Lovely place, not a huge menu which is good in my opinion, food was excellent, the prices are reasonable too, we will definitely return.

Beautiful ambience and friendly service as soon as you walk in. I had the escargot to start. They were cooked perfectly and smothered in garlic and herbs clarified butter sauce. The extra dipping bread was a necessity. 11/10 would recommend to everyone. My husband had the scallops on a Leek puree. They were soft, sweet, and portioned brilliantly. For mains, I had the confit duck leg with potato dauphinoise. My duck leg was silky and tender, with a hint of lemon peel about the skin and meat. The potatoes dauphinoise were creamy, garlicky, and so luxurious. My husband had the venison with garlic mash. The venison cut like butter, and there was a nice nutty flavour of roasted garlic in the mash. We will absolutely be coming back next time we're in York.

Had a lovely three course set meal with la soupe à l’oignon, coq au vin, finished off with a delicious crème brûlée. The portions were absolutely hearty and I could have easily shared my main with plenty for two people. The environment is casually stylish — no need to dress up. The service was prompt, thorough, and friendly all around.

Not one to really write a review but the service was so bad I had to. The woman who served us was throwing evils at us as soon as we sat down me and my partner aren’t ones for fancy dress so we just came in a casual wear and you could tell from the start she judged us off of that. Further more when I wanted the bill I gave her a little smile to show we needed the bill she proceeded to give me evils again and walked off. It’s sad to write a review on this as the food was really good unfortunately bad service and atmosphere completely ruined the food. Wouldn't recommend to anyone just in case they had the same experience we did

A beautiful restaurant with pleasant service and a varied set menu. I've visited here many times and have never been disappointed. There's a wide variety of starters, mains and desserts to choose from with something for everyone. I particularly enjoy the chicken dishes. Well worth booking though as it does get busy.

Just had our second visit to Rustique. We love it, feels very French. The food is always delicious and the service very good. A warm welcome on arrival and friendly staff throughout the evening.

Service was great as normal. We were not too hungry so I just had a beef bourgignon which was delicious and my wife tried tagine marocain de légumes with apricot bulgar & spices which she thought very nice, 'not too spicy'. A very pleasant visit by two visitors to York.09

We visited this charming restaurant on our recent trip to York. The restaurant is gorgeous and the wait staff are very attentive. There is step access and I didn’t see a lift, so may not be suitable for those who can’t do steps, but please check with the restaurant as they may have disabled access. The food was impeccable, partner and the French onion soup, duck breast and crème brûlée (the best he’s ever had as well). I had the baked Camembert, pork belly and a baileys. We had 2 soft drinks and a bottle of wine and it was about £115 plus tip. The decor is old school French and the ambience of the restaurant was just right for a cosy meal. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for somewhere to eat in York.

Food was very good. Steak with chips were perfect. Would recommend to anyone only visiting.

Visited early Sunday evening. The place was busy with a lively atmosphere. Mixture of families, couples and groups.Staff friendly throughout. Set menu is good value. French onion soup and steak had good reviews from our party. Mussels were plump and delicious. House wine was pleasant. Would return.

Cosy atmosphere, friendly staff and best potatoes I've ever had

Starting with the entrance, which was beautifully decorated for Christmas! This looks like a really small restaurant but it’s very deceiving and we were taken upstairs which is huge!! I was so torn by the choices but as we were there on a Thursday, we opted for the 3 courses for £26.95. Which was really good value and the portion sizes were really good. The food was delicious as were the cocktails and the service was brilliant. Attentive without being over the top and also gave us space, loved the servers idea which was for us to put the menus at the end of the table when we were ready to order and he would come over. All in all highly recommended.

We came here as a group of 16 on New Year's Eve. The service was absolutely fantastic, everything ran so smoothly even with such a big group. We also had made several changes to our booking previously, and the staff had been so friendly and accomodating when we did this. We had a great evening and the entire group was very happy with the meal and service. The food was excellent. I've ate at Rustique several times now, and the meal has been delicious each time. I will definitely be back again.

Food arrived far too quickly, clearly microwaved. Food lacked flavour and any depth. Would not return.
