The Black Swan in Leeds

Not been for years! Use to be really busy and lots of choice of food. Not many people in, small menu and small portions. The fish, gammon and pie were great but the chips and peas that it came with were very small, the gammon came with 8 small chips! The service is good just shame on the portions for the price.

A very hard-working team putting out brilliant food and drink. Deserve great rewards for such excellent work. I'll be back for certain. All food is locally sourced, and it shows. It is very, very good.

We went for Sunday roast with 2 dogs and the in-laws. The food was amazing, fresh veg , generous portions of succulent pink beef, finished off with the fluffiest home made sticky toffee pudding. Really good value! Really friendly landlady Victoria and her husband the chef Jamie even came out to say hello. Warm welcome and we'll be back!

Really nice food, never disappoints. Fish and chips are some of the best I've ever had. Staff are always friendly and there's a nice selection of beers on tap too.

Today I had the Chicken Ceaser salad. After accommodating to my request by the lovely bar staff Victoria, she understood I did not want anchovies with my salad. Instead she was very polite and recommended tomato as a substitute. I just want to say thankyou for the excellent service as usual, I cannot wait to return!

The best Sunday roast we have had in a long time, great food, great service, great people!

Visited for Sunday roast, unfortunately it was under whelming and over priced. Staff are friendly and polite.

Place is dead, we chose to have sandwiches and received about 3 gratings of cheese, smallest amount of pickle, ham sandwich was rubbish, bread was dry was like chewing on a flip flop, i took the food back and management refused to refund will never go here again

Go here if your brew is timmy taylors landlord, blond or boltmaker all on tap, james is a friendly host, not had food yet so cant comment. Tuesdays are generally live folk music

The place was clean and tidy.. Food really wasn't great. Beef was really chewy and wasn't that hot.

Lovely pub food they waited for us as we were late. This place shouldn’t go a miss if you’re in the area. James is a fantastic chef and the beer was nice and cold We stumbled on a folk nights also. Fabulous Great garden also. Andy and Kelly Garforth

My experience at the Black Swan was fantastic. Not only was the food brilliant, the service was exceptional. Victoria, my server, was very attentive and ensured all my needs were met. Additionally, the food was mouth watering. I recommend the pork ( with extra crackling ). Thankyou for such a lovely experience, I definitely will be returning!

Some interesting items on the menu but the reality and execution just didn't deliver for the price point. Not bad, but not as good as I'd expect for the cost. Online presence needs a major revamp, FB page essentially blank with a dead link. Google reveals a website but never been populated, full of mumbo jumbo text that is supposed to be replaced.

Not been here for years but under new management. No loud tinned music which allowed my wife and I to chat to each other over a drink whilst we waited for our meal. Meal was excellent for both of us, makes it worthwhile going out, not overpriced and definately a go again jobby.

Great Food, Great Beer and Great Locals

Drop in every couple of weeks for lunch. Always receive a very warm welcome. Very good menu with pub staples mixed with more interesting choices. All cooked fresh and very well executed. Easily the best for miles around. Good selection of lagers and ales. Taylors landlord is definitely well looked after.

Nice pub. Sunday dinner good, but the veg was too hard - not cooked enough. Beef very tasty though.

Called in for Sunday lunch, family good choice of either steak and ale pie, cottage pie or Roast. Beef, gammon or pork loin The beef, pork loin, roast potatoes, Yorkshire Pudding and pie were all very good but the veggies needed a bit longer on the boil. I like my weg al dente, but these were a bit hard for my liking. Over all I would recommend this pub for Sunday lunch, or any other occasion. The staff are very helpful. We will go again.

We were so impressed and will certainly be back for food! We only came for drinks but the care taken to serve them & the friendliness of the staff was outstanding! The chef (and maybe the owner) was so enthusiastic about the food, it was clear from the friendly staff attitude, decor and glassware that this is truly a pub that is cared about. The chef was talking us through the amazing menu and explaining how everything is made fresh. It’s very rare to see such enthusiasm and passion in pubs these days so we will certainly be back! The pub garden was so relaxing & beautiful with the flowers and fresh herbs (which the chef was picking to use in his cooking!). Parking facilities are great! Fabulous place for families too! Thank you for such a lovely atmosphere.

Called in at 3 minutes past 8 and kitchen closed at 8 but they went above and beyond to make sure we weren’t disappointed. Homemade burgers, homemade chips and slaw, very nice indeed. Friendly staff and nice locals. Beer garden perfect for late summers evening drinks. Would recommend to anyone passing by.

My oh my! I don’t venture into the pub very often after a bad experience in there a few years ago and it was dark and dingy, the service was shocking and the whole place was falling apart. I knew the place was under new management but couldn’t bring myself to face it again. My husband finally persuaded me to try again and I’m so glad we did. This place is a hidden gem in this small, farming community. The new owner has given the shabby shack a huge refurb and it is now bright and welcoming. We had tried the food this particular day and chose a venison dish. Wow! The food is out of this world. I’m a hard person to please and I’m usually one to say what they got wrong but I could think of nothing. So tasty, well presented and filling. Everything tasted homemade and you could definitely tell that it was, even dessert was on point. You must see the transformation this small pub has been through and make sure to try the food here and I promise you will not be disappointed.

Moved to the village in April 2022 and we are thrilled to have discovered this place. New owners will no doubt bring it back to glory - they are extremely friendly and clearly value your business. The chef is exceptional we were frankly gobsmacked by the delicious food and a bonus that we can bring our dog!

Just bobbed in for some food and the chef had finished but instead of turning us away he got his apron back on and made us the best BLT’s ever. So 5 star for service and food! Will definitely return again.

Visited one afternoon while in Barwick. This is a pub / restaurant that I visit when in the area. Didn't get chance to have a meal on this occasion and know the landlord / chef only arrived a few weeks ago, but seems to be on top of it all. Well kept drinks and a warm welcome.

A very welcoming pub, warm and cosy. Friendly staff too! Well worth a visit. Not eaten there yet but am looking forward to it.

We had a lovely pub lunch on Christmas eve. The lady who served us was lovely, chatty n friendly. I have been before and will go back to this traditional style pub.

A great hot meal for 4 we should have booked but had a really good meal and a friendly welcome very busy.

We called into The Black Swan, by chance. We were on our way back from a music festival and the A1 was jammed, so we decided to find somewhere for food. We found The Black Swan on Maps and drove there in a few minutes. We were just in time for a Sunday lunch even though it was a Monday. The pub had that quaint village feel. The landlady (so far as we knew) was very welcoming and brought 2 steaming plates of beef and one turkey in what seemed like no time at all. Carrots, brocoli, peas, and crunchy fluffy roast potatoes and two good sized Yorkshire puds. The plate was swimming with delicious gravy. There were a couple things that brought the number of star i could award down, the toilets were one. They are most definitely in need of an remodel. Also, the number of cobwebs i counted just from my seat, makes me think the cleaning staff are not up to scratch.

The black Swan is a good pub but it doesn't stay open late in the evening so you after go home or go to another pub not good 😐

The couple who run it, Clive and Kate are the most lovely people. Really are the greatest hosts. Lovely beer garden to the back aswell , sheltered from the rain.

Great little landlord/lady owned pub. Could maybe do with updating slightly. But lovely welcome, good staff and decent food for good value. Wish more pubs were like this.

Great traditional pub which is worth a visit

Cold plates..cold food..uncrispy,and rubbery, crispy pork belly joints. Everyone had cood food and plates..nothing is worse when you get your food..mentioned to waitress..bit not one apology.. Never going again !!

Lovely old fashioned pub. Great food at reasonable prices. The only problem I had they covered your half of your plate in gravy. I do not like gravy so I could only eat half of the meal. At least next time I will ask for no gravy.

I called in today for Sunday lunch but walked out because.....Let me tell you about Barwick in Elmet. In my opinion its stuffed full of relatively wealthy pensioners living in £300k houses whilst living off generous final salary pensions. I think his pub has seen this opportunity and decided to award these needy folk with discounted meal prices whilst the rest of us less fortunates have to pay an extra £2 on top to, I reckon subsidize their meals I suppose it does keep the younger more discerning riff raff out but its a strange business model considering the youth of today will not qualify for pensioner rate until they reach their nineties. Awarded two stars as the food was ok when i went some time ago. Will not be calling again until they expire.

Called in purely by chance when traffic was at a standstill and what a pleasant surprise. Good was excellent and quick service. Would highly recommend.

Great pub and staff food massive

A really lovely olde worlde pub, with low ceilings and fireplaces. Gorgeous home cooking with OAP specials at lunch time. Car park at the rear with a small sitting out area by the back door. Does seasonal evenings like Halloween night and two steaks and wine for X number of £s type of thing. I would expect that type of evening would make it necessary to book a table. This pub is not open all day and closes after the lunch time trade

Good pub food. Food arrived sooner than we had expected. Good for us as we were hungry! We chose the roast dinner so cannot comment on Specials and other menu items. Roast dinner was well cooked and tasty.

Traditional roast dinner does not mean deep fried potatoes. Everything tasted of old fat and fish. Utterly revolting to the point where complaint was pointless

Nice cosy pub with a village atmosphere. We went on a Saturday night and the bar was fairly busy. The lad that served us was new, but he was really pleasant and took care of all our needs with a smile. Beer was great and the g&t was cold and crisp!

The food is decent pub-grub but if you don't want to feel the wrath of the staff, you need to book first - even when the restaurant is empy. Walk-in trade for the restaurant is seemingly not appreciated and leaves a bad after taste. If you haven't booked, go somewhere else for decent customer service and some manners.

Nice pub that could do with a little modernisation and real fires installing! a Better selection of Ale would also be appreciated but the atmosphere is good and the staff are very friendly.

Took a friend of mine who lives in the village, he wasn't overly keen but I insisted, wish I hadn't, my friend is a wine drinker, not a wine snob, he ended up with a glass of lemonade! Food? Fish and chips from round the corner would have been better Such a shame, it's a lovely looking pub, should be a great place but even the landlord had a downer on everyone around him, a real embarrassment to the Innkeepers trade I doubt my friend will go back and I will certainly never insist on visiting there again! A wasted hour of my life I'll never see again
