Cote Brasserie - York in York

Absolutely incredible food and amazing service - came here for my best friends birthday lunch on 04/09 and we were obsessed with the quality of the food, especially at the price point!

A friend and I stopped in for lunch one afternoon to try out this restaurant for the first time. We were both impressed with the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff, and the set meal offer was great value. The only drawback was the wait time for the meals to arrive, especially given it was relatively quiet. When the meals did arrive though, they were cooked to perfection, satisfyingly portioned and flavoursome. Just to note, the coffees we had during our visit tasted great, if inconsistent (our first being lukewarm, the second piping hot).

Great simple French food, good early bird menu and polite service! I had mussels and my wife had steak frites! Would recommend and return!

Oh dear. We’ve eaten at Cote York before and had a number of issues, mainly the food being cold. We tried a dozen places to book dinner in York but everywhere else was booked - so we decided to give Cote one more chance! When we arrived the restaurant was not very full - less than half the tables filled - this set alarm bells for us. We ordered drinks, starters and mains. Starters were fine. Nothing to rave about - the crab was more mayonnaise than crab and didn’t really taste of crab. The problem was with our mains. The arrived cold and underwhelming. The steak and salmon fillet looked like it was a cut of a cut - very small. Steak and salmon both overcooked. There was an order for the duck which was okay. Had to talk to the manager who took away all three dishes, even though the duck was okay, my friend didn’t want to sit there eating whilst the two of us didn’t have anything. The cream spinach was also returned as it had no cream on it. The manager offered us a drink and we kindly accepted whilst we waited for the food to come back. When the food came back it was like night and day! The steak and salmon were double the size of the original dishes. The creamed spinach was overflowing with cream as well. We asked our waiter how it’s so different and he said it’s a chef problem. Another disappointing second chance visit.

Very nice lunch, we both had the salmon which was lovely, I had chips also nice. The Paris Brest dessert was tasty, with crisp choux pastry. The creme caramel was very nice.

Travelled to York for a couples night out. After a lot of consideration,we decided on Cote, and we're so pleased we did. The food was nothing short of stunning. The service was fantastic, too. One of the waitresses accidentally knocked a bottle of beer on me whilst serving it. This was a total accident, and she was so apologetic. I didn't expect to not have to pay for the replacement beer, however, this was offered despite there being a small dribble of beer on my jeans. A truly lovely experience all around. Next time we're in York, we'll definitely return.

Sorry guys, experience was totally underwhelming. The initial guy that greeted me was very professional but was taken over by another guy who seemed to spend time on his phone near til. Tbf may have been work related. Souffle was ok, bit eggy. Had pork belly which again was acceptable but calvados jus didn't taste of much. No one enquired how my meal was but I did note that he did ask with the table of four how theirs was. Had similar experience last week so it may be that if your solo they don't like to intrude. Sting in tale was the 10% added. Thankfully the chap did point it out and I had it taken off. I felt bad doing it but felt justified as it wasn't best experience.

Tried to go to the Harrogate outlet last week found it ermanently closed. This place will be next. At 3pm walked in no sign of any staff with about half a dozen lost looking customers sat at tables with no sign of food. After 5 minutes gave up waiting for someone to appear. It didn't fill us with any confidence they might be able to deliver food as no noise from the kitchen either. Corporate management should get a grip or just board up the door and windows because if they can't survive in Harrogate and York they won't survive anywhere. Such a pity it was one of our favourite chains

Went with the family for lunch. The guys serving couldn’t have been more helpful. Lovely starters, great mains (the steak & sea bass was wonderful & cooked to perfection) the desserts were also good. Had to ask if it was roquefort cheese as it was hard (didn’t have salt crystals in and had a rind) more like Stilton but was assured it was. But either way I love any cheese. Will be back.

Cote is always great. However this evening despite the extreme business they went above and beyond. The team are so amazing. The food was exceptional. I feel so privileged to be looked after by them. Well done you guys!

We visited Cote Brasserie today for lunch and it was a truly excellent experience. Great service and terrific food. It was so refreshing to meet staff who made you feel so welcome and were so engaging, particularly when I asked about having the Fish Parmentier with no cheese topping! Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the food served to us on top of the service was definitely worth a 5* rating. Thank you for such a lovely experience and keep up the great work.

We went to cote for lunch today and we enjoyed it very much indeed but it was very busy I had the steak and chips and it was really delicious indeed

Very poor. We have been dozens of times over the past 4 years and it has always been excellent. Today the food was abysmal - must have a new chef but the quality and standard was shockingly bad. Won’t be going again.

Both the food and the staff were exceptional. We dropped in for lunch and came back for brunch. The food was well cooked and beautifully presented. There vegan choices as well. I must say, their coffee is the best I’ve had since I arrived in the UK. It’s worth returning just for that. My friends and I are likely to return for yet another meal before we leave. Wow!!

Our meal was OK, we had French onion soup which was nice but could have been so much better and the fish parmentier which was alright. We had a dessert to share which was small, but no worries. The problem was at the end of the meal when we were advised that the venue was cashless, problem as we didn’t have a card on us. Company policy apparently, which should have been mentioned on arrival or at least on ordering. The young man in charge had to take our cash and pay with his bank card, so not good. A 10% service charge was also added which we weren’t happy to pay, it was taken off.

We arrived in York for a weekend away and chose this restaurant while taking our first walk around the city. It looked nice from outside and we weren’t disappointed. The atmosphere was good and the service very friendly and efficient. We had an early dinner from the fixed price menu and it was all delicious and well cooked. Good value too and not surprisingly the place became quite busy as the evening went on. We’d certainly return here again.

Good value food with the Prix Fixe menu. Staff friendly. Let down by the intrusive canned music. Why the need to have background noise when most people want to talk?

Staff were good, helpful, restaurant was clean and welcoming. Food was dreadful. Microwaved, small portions, overcooked. My starter was returned and credited, but the meal was not good. The staff as I said were good and did what they could, but the food was poor quality. This is the second time we had visited, the previous time was much better, hopefully the food will improve...

Table of 3 on a very busy Saturday evening. Service was really good, very attentive. We only had a main course but it was plentiful. My daughter had a Veggie dish, whilst I had chicken and vegetables and French fries. Food tasty and nice and hot. Would definitely visit again when in York.

Service was good but food less so. Moules was so watery it lacked any taste. Dessert was not too much better, pancake was chewy.

Booked this on the basis of many of the previous reviews and we ware not disappointed. We were quickly shown to our table and served with our pre-dinner drinks. The service and food were both excellent and will definitely book this restaurant again when next in York.

Service was Amazing, ordered the steak and it was ok but I’ve definitely had better and for a cheaper price too. Ordered the two course meal the fish cake was amazing as I’d never tried anything like that before upgraded my steak to a larger one however it was very tough and chewy (ordered medium rare) and struggled to get my knife through it was very filling which is always good.

We have been regular visitors here for breakfast, lunches and dinners for many years and have always had a lovely experiences whenever we visit. We went for breakfast this morning and it was excellent as usual. We had eggs royal and smoked salmon and scrambled eggs......all delicious and we couldn't resist having a second coffee as it's so good. All the staff are so friendly and efficient and we are always made to feel very welcome, as we were this morning. Looking forward to visiting again soon.

Visited on 16th December as part of our 37th wedding anniversary. We had a fantastic time. The staff were excellent especially the manager who made us feel most welcome. The food was absolutely delicious as was the ambience. Definitely going to book for next year’s anniversary.

Absolutely fantastic, the staff were outstanding and the food first class. I believe the servers were George and Teshire.

I really didn’t want to write this because it’s Christmas and everyone is tired and on empty but…. I booked Cotes as I was sent an email with a link to book for my birthday and 1 glass per party of complimentary fizz would be provided . The service was ok .. server lacked any knowledge or charisma but sweet . The service was a bit slow . We were never asked if we wanted another drink we had to keep asking …my husband told the waitress that it was my 40th and if they had anything special she could do …. I over heard him but she replied Ah no maybe next time . Bill was 181 .00 for 4 which I felt wasn’t worth it . I hate giving bad feedback but I just felt the manager needed to know .. perhaps it was skeleton staff .. .

What a lovely evening the service from our waiter and waitress was exceptional, the food was delicious I had the Confit pork for the first time and can't wait to have it again, a big thank you to George and I think her name was Teisha for making it a such a great experience x

We went on spec after looking for somewhere to have lunch as everywhere was very busy but we were welcomed by Kieran who showed us to a nice table and the food was so good that we decided to come back a couple of days later for dinner. Our server was Joe and you could not have met a warmer, friendly and helpful young man who was both efficient and knowledgeable. An excellent gluten free menu, easy to understand but Joe was able to make sure that the meal was adapted. We had the Chateau and the chocolate mousse both excellent. We will be back next time we are in York and thoroughly recommend the Cote

I never realised that chefs can’t cook breakfast!! Rock hard potatoes. Cold bacon. Eggs inedible due to plenty of vinegar! On a positive the mushrooms were nice. Jeepers Cote. Raise your game

We have been to this restaurant many times and have always enjoyed the food and service, so today when we arrived at 12 to a nearly empty restaurant, we were surprised to be told it was fully booked, even for a table for 2. Disappointed, we looked on line to see there were tables available at this time and afterwards! Did we not fit your profile?? We usually have at least 2 courses with a bottle of wine and pay for 12% service charge without a quibble. Fortunately we found somewhere else to eat just as nice and friendly!

What a fabulous experience at Cote York. I am disabled and have a mobility scooter. The manager asked one of the lovely staff members to come and bring my scooter into the vestibule as there was nowhere on the street to chain it up. They also carried it out when I was due to go. We had lunch I ate from the set menu and had the steak and frites followed by plum clafoutis and my daughter had the quiche Lorraine and a trio of desserts. Everything was beautifully cooked and delicious. We had a lovely afternoon. I have already booked for the Christmas menu on 11th December. Can’t wait. Staff go above and beyond. Couldn’t recommend them more highly.

Excellent food and service. Zac did his absolute best to ensure that we were happy and looked after. From the welcome at the door when we arrived to the goodbye the staff showed real warmth and customer service. Would recommend.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here last night. Zac was our waiter and a lovely pleasant helpful lad. My friend had beef borgogne and I had fish pie. We both had a lovely dessert which I can’t remember name of! Like a little pear torte with ice cream. Would def return

Very attentive staff. Good value and tasty food. Ot too crowded on Monday Tuesday when we ate. Calamari starter excellent 1st night and a bit chewy 2nd. Manager said we should have returned. Nice touch. Very tasty salads with new flavor. Shared beef Bourgogne 1 night and mussels the 2nd. Both well cooked and tasty. Wine standard price fornpost covid. Would recommend a reservation

We noticed a very unbalanced approach in this restaurant. We stayed for nearly 2 hours and noticed many prospective customers being turned away at the door . Also the booking system was showing it was not possible to grab a table even for an Hour . Food service is swift and I’m sure if you could grab a table for a main course and a drink it would give them extra revenue in these difficult times . We noted 2 large tables down the back that could have seated 12 in total empty a 2 up front and another 4 vacant , during our visit . There was 5 staff on the front plus a manager. Food is very brassiere style with the nod to France, rustic with plates thumped in front of guests rather than placed , no one suggested extra sales to us during our stay. Saturday visit. Sorry to say but when one dines out a lot the little things matter, and I’m only commenting to help these guys out , I’d hate to turn away a few hundred quid in my business.

We went for brunch at Cote in York, we booked a table but on arrival it was empty (be time we left it was full!) We were seated and welcomed/looked after by a male server who was good. Gave us enough time to chat rather than rushing us to order! We had the vegetarian breakfast it was delicious and a good size my only comment would be that the vegan sausage is not great. As a long term veggie there are so many good options out there now & this wasn’t one of them! The mimosas were spot on! The whole experience was nice as a local, I’ve never been in for brunch as there are lots of competitive independents in the city, but this was a nice change and I would return.

My experience at Cote York was delightful! The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The food was delicious, and having a quiet table at the front of the restaurant with a window seat allowed us to enjoy both the excellent cuisine and a charming view of the street (particularly as I’m nosey and like to see what’s going on!) I had the rump of lamb with ratatouille and my partner had the moules and frites. Both were cooked well. For dessert, I had the elderflower creme brûlée which was lovely and my partner had the salted caramel chocolate tart which he was delighted with. I highly recommend Cote York for a fantastic dining experience!

Been here lots of times and we have never been disappointed. Lovely warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble from the two male waiters ( sorry forgot their names ) We had the fixed price menu that was on offer that day, a couple of drinks + service charge came to £54.89. We had a lovely time and will be going back. Good location, lovely décor and warm and welcoming.

My family ate here during a recent mini-break to York. Whilst ordering the next table were complaining that the food wasn't hot - oh dear not a great start!Two of our party ordered the bourguignon and were a bit let down - the meat wasn't good. Anyway we carried on to desserts which were better. When the bill arrived I was surprised to see an "optionl" tip of almost £20 added to thie bill. Who thought this was a good idea?!!! I purposely did not tip due to this and will never return.

Really impressed with the menu and quality of the food. It is clean and you could choose where to sit. We booked in advance as it was for the dinner at the weekend and worried we would not get a table so had to settle for a slightly earlier time, yet half the place was empty - perhaps they leave this for walk ins? Next time will chance this but will visit this chain again.

Another excellent meal at Cote, they do the food well. It’s a chain but it is consistently good. Service was good and the atmosphere very nice. Would recommend any of the dishes we had, very enjoyable

Good menu and service, very attentive. I had Devon crab Maison, followed by Breton fish stew and finally tarte aux pomme. The food was very good although salt on the lettuce which was a bit tired with the Devon

Visited on a Saturday afternoon. Service was smoothly done. Orders for drinks taken shortly after been seat. These were brought to the table, before taken our order. Waitress was polite, informative and happy to help answer any questions we had. Mains of the Pork belly and chick were beautifully cooked and potion size perfect leaving room for dessert. Dessert was just as nice as the main. Staff friendly, lovely atmosphere which was relaxed.

I’ve been coming to Cote for years on and off with my partner, it’s her favourite french bistro; I’ve never been disappointed, granted it is extremely expensive but the quality has never let us down.Today I visited Cote with a friend who I’ve not seen for a couple of years due to Covid! I recommended Cote as it had been a reliable safe place to eat in York… Sadly it was a disaster, so much so I’m writing my first ever online review…So my friend went outside to vape and was accused of leaving without settling the bill…. I was then approached to settle the bill in his absence, I explained I was waiting on my friend to return before looking at the bill and moments later my friend was being escorted back into the restaurant… with out a doubt the most embarrassed I have ever been… what a disgraceful service!! I am 36 and my friend of similar age, we (hopefully) don’t look like hobos, I can’t understand why it would be thought we wouldn’t pay our bill…. After this experience there isn’t a chance I will ever eat there again.. on top of this I’m checking the bill to see I payed £12 for a service charge I’m now trying to ring the restaurant to challenge the charge but nobody is answering the phone… I refuse to pay a service charge to be embarrassed like that… the staff in a word… ‘chav’

Wonderful food and friendly staff. Premises are lovely and clean and they even made up deserts for our children to take away as they were full up from the beautiful meal we had In my opinion the only thing that let it down is the staff still wearing face masks which to me is a little impersonal. Other than that just wonderful

Great food lovely staff nice venue. Ate with family and the food was very nice, staff were attentive without being too much and the venue is nice and clean .Would recommend if in the area.

Visited over the weekend with my family. Granted the restaurant was extremely busy due to the York races being on but the service was still incredibly slow. As a table of 4 we were in there for over 2 hours. Only 3 of us ordered a starter and we didn’t even bother with dessert. One of my party ordered a steak which was vile. She’s not one to complain so didn’t want to kick up a fuss. She couldn’t continue eating the steak. Not wanting it to go to waste the rest of us divided the steak up between us but still couldn’t eat it. The quality of the meat was terrible, it actually smelt foul too. The rest of us had the bourguignon which again just wasn’t pleasant. We suspect that the meat had a mixture of good and cheap cuts mixed in because some pieces were tender, whilst others were very chewy. The meat also didn’t taste great, like the steak. When the bill came we mentioned that we weren’t keen on the food and asked for the gratuity to be taken off the bill. The waiters tone soon changed and at that point we knew that we were no longer welcome. After a short walk around York to walk off the food, 2 of us found ourselves quickly hurrying back to the hotel where we spend majority of the night in the bathroom. And the next day was a very “twitchy” ride home to say the least. My Sunday was then spent in the bathroom all day. So yea. You guys owe me a pack of disinfectant wipes and a bottle of bleach. How do I know it was from this place? All id had was some cereal and a sandwich all day. Nothing that would cause food poisoning.

Had lunch there today with family. Some of us ate from the fixed price menu, and some a la carte. The food, presentation and service were as good as they’ve always been. Loads of choice and our favourite wine, St Chinian is back on the menu. Our server Georgia P, was friendly and ultra efficient, remembering what everyone had ordered and serving the right dish to the right person. She’s a real asset to the restaurant and made the whole experience special. We will be back.

Absolutely gorgeous meal as always! Amazing options for gluten free too. We always go to Cote to guarantee a good night and York did not disappoint! Service was exceptional, Georgia served us and nothing was too much! 100% recommend and would always return

The Service was excellent, and the quality of the food was also superb - in particular the chocolate mousse. My only qualm would be the value of money of the restaurant as I ordered the Burger (which cost £14ish) which although delicious was rather smaller than I had anticipated. In addition to this, the portion of chips was what I would expect if ordering a small portion. I understand that high prices are the norm in restaurants, and I certainly believe the food lived up to these standards, but the quantity of the food was lacking in my opinion

Another triumph of a dinner at Cote. What more could you ask for other than great food, great service, yummy wine - everything was perfect for a delicious dinner and lovely experience. I would recommend anyone go and enjoy the food here, they have something for everyone’s taste.

Another great meal at Cote. Service and the food were really good. If you havent been here I would recommend that you pay them a visit. We have eaten in Cote restaurants in London, Richmond and now York and not been disappointed as yet.

We went here for a meal and as a starter one of us had the asparagus which was divine with a perfectly cooked poached egg. Two of us had rib eye steak...one of which was perfect and the other had rather a lot of fat through it. I think this may have just been bad luck. Everything else was fine and we would definitely return...

Friendly and welcoming with a great fixed price menu and the attraction for me a good selection of Gluten Free options at the same price as the standard menu - well done Cote.We visited with friends, their first experience of Cote, and all four of us had a thoroughly enjoyable meal with a nice bottle of wine in a nice relaxed atmosphere.

My best Cote Restaurant is here, York. I have tried many Cote restaurants in the UK so far in four years. I sure will be back and recommend to you. It is near to the famous York Minster, after then have a nice coffee there is a good choice.

Fantastic. The atmosphere was good, the staff were attentive and the food was delicious. As a Ceoliac (gluten free), my choices of restaurant are limited but they made me feel really confident so I would definitely recommend if you have any food allergies or intolerances. Visited this restaurant for 1st time since pandemic started. Been many times before & not had reason to rate it a 3 out of 5 before but on this occasion I felt the standards had gone down hill along with the menu choice. I usually get the Belly Pork. Normally delicious crispy & tender ong with a side of carrots. The carrots have been removed from menu????? My pork was definitely not crispy & it was also tough. We got offered a round of drinks due the extremely long wait for our mains. They made the excuse it was the chef trying to get my pork crispy....... . What a joke. My partner also loves the creme brulle so when we came to order sweets we found that had also been taken off the menu. This is a French restaurant. Creme brulle is French. Highly disappointed. Won't be rushing back

Chain restaurants- what do we think? Over the years, we’ve tended to avoid them where possible but when a French friend gave this chain a surprisingly good review, we thought we’d give it a chance. The York branch is in a great location just near the Minster. Looks small from the outside but goes a long way back so there are plenty of covers. Where Cote scores is that it maintains many of the conventions and decor of higher end restaurants in a less formal setting. Service was good and the food was simple but well prepared and presented. Our crab starter was excellent and I recommend the cheese for dessert where you can choose any 3 from 6 decent French cheeses. Mains were good too. You can have a good night here without breaking the bank. A glass of NV champagne to start is less than £7! Can’t go wrong. Well paced as well. We spent two hours or so for three courses and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Highly recommended.

Visited on Monday 17th May and was really happy to see a nice busy restaurant after COVID restrictions. Food was really good with lots of choice on the menu. Service was also good. I would definitely revisit Cote.

Not much happening in York that evening but we had a nice time. Staff were great, choice of A la carte, fixed prices and a Xmas menu. Sensible but not obtrusive covid precautions. Will go again when we are allowed.

Quiet evening meal. We are fairly regular customers to Cote but it was quiet tonight. Good choice of food and drink. We have a good meal and staff were on hand to meet requests without being intrusive. Thoroughly recommend a visit.

We always look forward to coming here when visiting York. Pre-booked online on this occasion given circumstances & to avoid disappointment. Arrived 11.45 on a Saturday morning. Restaurant quiet though more people arrived after us. Still open, airy & socially distanced. Staff could not have been more helpful with partner’s onion-related allergy which I mentioned when booking. On arrival they had gone through the menu marking all the choices he could have safely & those to avoid. Very refreshing & much appreciated. The poulet grillee with mushroom sauce (for me) and side of minted peas was heaven. Service was impeccable as usual. It’s quite clear that service charge is included in the bill and we thought it entirely deserved. Tres bien.

What a great find in York this afternoon.We were looking for somewhere for a late lunch and we stumbled across Cote Brasserie, the food was amazing, with an extensive main menu and specials menu, the staff were so helpful and as we had our baby with us in his pram they were extremely accommodating.The service was amazing and the staff were lovely with Toby, even pretending to tiptoe past when he was asleep.We couldn’t have asked for a nicer place to come across.

The service, the food, the wine, the decor and the whole experience was first rate. We wouldn’t hesitate in going again when we are in the area.

Fantastic Sunday lunch. Called in mid afternoon and managed to get a table. The waiter was extremely attentive and, needless to say, followed all the relevant Covid rules. Beautiful food. We will hopefully go back very soon.

Buen servicio, el camarero fue muy servicial y demasiado amable. ! ! Sin embargo, los gerentes fueron muy desagradables tan pronto como llegamos. Nos sirvieron pollo crudo y tan pronto como nos dimos cuenta, el camarero se disculpó y nos ofreció un nuevo plato en reemplazo. Sin embargo, nos alejó del resto de la comida que habíamos servido. Excelente camarero pero terrible servicio de gestión.

We’ve eaten in other Cote brasseries in London and this branch did not disappoint. Good staff and food, although slightly pricey.

First time to Cote in York - food quality as good as expected. Had a thoroughly enjoyable 3-course long lunch - well, when in 'France' ... Good friendly service and as always, reasonably priced. Well worth a visit.

Booked a table with friends on a Friday evening. The restaurant was fantastic, so clean and very Covid safe. All staff wore face coverings and were exceptionally friendly and very attentive. The food was absolutely delicious. Definitely will be returning.

Absolutely fantastic. The best two nights of our stay in York were spent in this marvellous restaurant. Spotlessly clean, friendly and reasonably priced. Food to die for. What else can you say? If you are in York do yourselves a favour and eat here!!!!

First let me say that the Manchester restaurant is my favourite restaurant. I enjoyed a family meal here last week. The food and service very good. However they do not offer the lunchtime special menu at weekends like Manchester does which is a real shame but otherwise great food and drink at reasonable prices. Only one negative is that they didn’t have the wine we ordered and the next wine was 10 pounds dearer it would have been nice if they could have offered a discount as not our fault that they were out of stock

Had a lovely meal here whilst visiting a York, great food and very good service would definitely recommend this place if you have the chance

Simply the best restauraunt in York and Peterborough. Consistently great service and food. Never been disappointed.

We ate here bank holiday Monday, last Eat Out to Help Out day. We expected slower than usual service, but in fact we'd had our starters and mains within half an hour! Food was spot on, service was fabulous, waiter was very friendly and everything we ate was well cooked and enjoyable. We didn't expect to have such great and speedy food from what is effectively a large chain restaurant, and it was our first visit but we would definitely go to a Cote again! Whole meal (two and a half course and wine) came to £40 with the EOTHO discount, bargain!

We walked past here on our way to York Minster and asked to book a table for lunch as it was "Eat out to help out" and we were worried we wouldn't be able to find somewhere to eat. We managed to book a table for 5 of us after our visit to the Minster. The service was good and so was the food. All in all a lovely meal.

We had a fabulous lunch yesterday. Wife had Tuna Niçoise salad, I had fish cakes. Made with love, great attention to detail and very tasty. Service first class too and very reasonably priced. Thanks very much. A very worthy 5 stars.

Just like to say a big thank you to the staff at Cote York. Myself and my Brother had a very long lunch/dinner yesterday(17/04)and the staff were a first class. We had a great time. Thanks again.

Nice little french restaurant in the heart of York. Service was attentive. Menu was nice. Food was nice enough however not amazing.

Only gave this three stars because of the service, the food was 5 star. We had Sunday breakfast today and it was as good as any in York and I’ve tried most of them. We had the French Breakfast, delicious. Should be easy to fix the service issues, look after your guests promptly, smile, be attentive rather than aloof and miserable.

Buscamos una braseria, no vimos que era cocina francesa , nos pedimos unos salteado de langostinos con salsa tomate y picante que la verdad estaba muy bueno los calamares a la romana muy buenos y la carne a la brasa de impresión y el pollo con bacon muy sabroso muy buena cocina y buen servicio.

Had a lovely brunch at this chain restaurant. Service was good ...food was good. We did have an issue with Jam. There were jam's on the table and one of our party decided he wanted jam on his toast.As we sat down there was one on the table. however in a deft hand movement the waiter took it away as we ordered.So I got up and found one off another table.... No sooner had he spread the delicious compote on his granary slice than the waiter appeared and vanished that jar away......it became a bit of a joke amongst us. JAMS are for show not just for Toast..apparently.

Really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Restaurant fairly quiet and staff were attentive everything was delicious!

Our first visit here and it won’t be our last. Arrived at 11-30 just in time for breakfast. Glad we did. Had two English breakfasts-they both came with a choice of eggs, poached,scrambled or fried. I had fried my partner had poached, best poached eggs I’ve ever seen.. breakfast was very tasty. Served with tea or coffee, and fresh apple or orange juice.. serviced was fast and efficient, and friendly. Not expensive either.

In York for an early appointment and needing breakfast we alighted on Cote. We had a very good breakfast served quickly by friendly staff. Happy to recommend.

We have eaten at this chain of restaurants before and always had good food so we were a little disapointed on this visit.

Ate here last night 4 friends all had different meals and they were all really good. Set menu is there but we mixed and matched. Service was excellent, we were looked after by our waiter Alex who proved to be efficient knowledgeable attentive and polite.Very little waiting time between courses and one of my pet hates cold plates ! Never happened. Would I eat here again, ? Most definitely.

I don't know how they do it but each Cote we have used is the equal of each other. Sevice, quality of food etc. so consistent from place to place. York is no exception. We were early for the lunch menu to be served but no problems. A table found for us and offered drinks to pass the time. Bang on 12 noon and our order taken. Usual high standard of food, quality of service and their set menu's are good value.

We ate fairly early at around 5.45 pm but the restaurant was already fairly busy and by the time we left it was heaving. Bearing in mind how busy it was, the service was good and no problems. We both really enjoyed our food and no complaints. We did have difficulty however in coping with how noisy the restaurant was - sound seeming to be bouncing from wall to ceiling. Not sure it was the building construction causing this or if most of the customers were particularly loudon that evening. We did not like the 7.5% service charge being automatically added to the bill - we much prefer to give tips direct to the staff. Would we go again - yes.

I am a fan of Cote brasseries, only disappointed once in one in Central London. So visiting a friend near York took her as a thank you to it's Cote for lunch last week. We chose the posher Fixed Menu and she was delighted with her Calamari as was I with my Moules. Both starters were more generous than in my local Surrey Cotes. The whole meal was very good value and the waiters [ as always ] were charming. However I was very disappointed on visiting the Ladies to notice that the floor hadn't had a good clean for some time - it was really dirty all around the edges. A stark contrast to the gleaming sink. it made me wonder about the kitchen ! My friend was keen to bring her partner who loves seafood until she saw that.

Chose Cote as it offered a varied vegetarian menu . The restaurant was fairly busy so we were pleased we had booked a table in advance. The food was lovely, perfectly cooked ,everyone enjoyed their meal. We were well looked after by Laura, thank you.
