We had a lovely lunch, nice atmosphere, I can highly recommend the fish finger sandwich, it was delicious! The lady serving us was very friendly and helpful, even offering us a better table with a view of the estuary when it became available.
The landlord is unwelcoming, confrontational, and rude. My mother went in to use the toilet and I bought a Diet Coke whilst I waited so as not to use the premises without making a purchase. The response I got “is that all you’re having? What does she want?”, coupled with a dirty look. I responded with “yeah, is that alright?” and he gave a disgruntled response and left me be. Safe to say I hardly felt welcome. The Royal Oak is a public house… don’t get upset when members of the public visit. Some money is better than none. Had we been treated better we may have returned as visitors to the area on holiday. The landlord bit his nose off despite his face. Good luck, bud.
Visited today for Sunday lunch with family for my birthday. Roast was fantastic would definitely recommend. Really lovely wholesome food. The puddings were also delicious. Thank you. Will defo be back 👍🏻
We ordered 3 salads and 3 beers and it came to £95! Absolutely extortionate for what we got.
The fish was very average and was just placed on a bowl of disappointing and basic salad which didn’t complement the fish, and didn’t even have any dressing on.
Despite all ordering different salads on the menu, all of the salads were exactly the same, just with different fish on top which was not what we expected given the descriptions on the menu.
The mackerel salad listed beetroot and salted cucumber on the menu, but this was not what we got.
My mum is coeliac and there was very limited gluten free options available - no gluten free bread or dressing options.
We offered some polite feedback to a member of staff, and were met with a rude and defensive response what seemed to be the manager.
A lovely location yes, but outweighed by the poor food and rude staff - definitely not worth the money and would never go back.
Had a lovely lunch today, popped in on the of chance as passed many times and said we must try the food, we weren't disappointed it was lovely and well worth the money
An amazing spot to enjoy Sunday Lunch. We visited on Easter Sunday and received a warm welcome by a member of staff in the bar area.
The table we were given had lovely sea views and had plenty of space for four people.
Service was quick and efficient and staff were attentive.
The food was delicious especially the Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding.
Would highly recommend a visit.
What a shame I’m having to write this review, this place once upon a time was lovely. We stopped for a quick drink with our granddaughter so she could play in the beer garden.
It was absolutely disgusting, bottles strewn over the floor broken benches and the high chairs were minging, the grass was overgrown and whole place looking tired.
The car park is full of old battered work vans which is clearly being used as some sort of 2nd hand sales.
To top it off the guy serving behind the bar (uses crutches) was just damn right rude.
This place has so much potential but is clearly in the wrong hands
Ate lunch on the terrace having just got off the ferry from South Sands. Sunshine, people watching, a local pint and a massive bowl of delicious mussels - just the perfect start to our afternoon. Enjoyed it so much, and could see so many great options that we booked to come back that evening for dinner too sitting in the restaurant. The Thai curry with monkfish and king prawns was the best meal I had all holiday! A lovely pub / restaurant with really friendly and helpful staff.
We were fortunate to have a wonderful Sunday roast at The Millbrook Inn. Absolutely first class in every way, including the service. The best Sunday roast we have had in a pub/restaurant for a long time. Combined with the most beautiful location and a perfect sunny day, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Thank you.
Possibly the most disgusting takeaway I've ever had.sweet and sour chicken balls where greasy, the crispy belly pork was just bits of fried fat and the special fried rice tasted stale, greasy overcooked left overs. Managed a couple of mouthfuls then straight into the bin bypassing the dog as I don't want her to have the shits as well. get a proper chef / microwave operator
Despite being off the beaten track, well worth a visit . Not least for the antique, jewelry and craft sheds outside. The deli is well stocked and th butchery is excellent.
Two niggles spoiled our day.
1. Being so far out , car is the only wat to access. Given the demographic of visitors, like most farm shops and garden centres, is mainly of the grey haired variety only having one disabled parking space is ridiculous for the number of customers.
2. Secondly having to wait in a queue with 2 other customers for severalminutes, while the blond lady on the till has a trivial conversation with a colleague. No apology or explanation , this does not encourage a positive review.
Shame with a more customer focussed attitude, could have been 5 star.
We have visited this cafe located at the mouth of the beautiful River Dart many times. It has always served up great drinks and food but after my last visit I felt compelled to write a review. Following a swim in the cove below we had the best ever bacon roll I have ever eaten. Tasty sweet bacon in a delicious warm crusty batch served up with a smile. Truly delicious!
