One of the best experiences of eating out we’ve had ever! The food was perfection. I had the king prawn linguine- full of flavour and I could have eaten the whole dish again despite being happily full. My husband had the steak frites! Which he also said was one of the best meals he’s ever had out! We are regular foodies and have been to the most exquisite fine dining, Michelins star restaurants nationally and globally and dick and Wills was a new gem we have discovered. It will be hard to eat anywhere else when frequenting salcombe after finding dick and wills! Oh and the cocktails… outstanding! I have finally found my drink… l highly recommend the lychee martini if u like sweet cocktails. Go enjoy dick and wills - you’re welcome! 😊

Where to begin! Myself and my partner have always loved dick and wills, from the incredible food to the stunning views, when choosing somewhere to hold our wedding breakfast for our family and close friends it had to be dick and wills! Firstly, Richard and Will were the most incredible hosts and I can’t thank them enough, from our communications leading up to the day and the day itself, Richard couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating, they both went out of their way to ensure we had the most special experience and it truly was spectacular! The staff were so wonderful and friendly, a true credit! The drinks were constantly flowing and the food was beyond EXCEPTIONAL we had salt and pepper squid, pork sung (my personal favourite, still dreaming about it now!) fish and chips and burgers followed by ice cream cones! It was all absolutely delicious and perfect for the casual seaside theme we were after! The restaurant itself is just beautiful and provided the most perfect, intimate setting for our special day. Helped by the wonderful Leah who so kindly set everything up beautifully! We were incredibly lucky with the weather and we were able to gather on the decking area and take in the glorious views with a glass of fizz! Over all it was the dreamiest day made even more special by such an impressive team!! Thank you!

We dined here after having booked a number of weeks ago. Despite this, our party of six were given a table in the corner with very little view of the estuary or the rest of the restaurant. The service was efficient but unfriendly. The food was good however did not match the expectations of the pricing. This was not fine dining, despite the pricing!

First impressions very good, had a lovely table on the terrace with a beautiful view. Starters arrived quickly and were excellent. Waited quite a while for mains then when it came we requested some extra mustard for the steak which never arrived. No one came back to check that the meals were ok ( the prawn aloo gobi was delicious but the steak was really chewy). This was when it really went downhill. After finishing our mains we waited 45 minutes before we had to call someone to clear our plates and ask for the bill when tables around us had had theirs collected and were on dessert. We felt that we were just forgotten about. So disappointing to have to give a negative review but the service let it down.

Over priced. All other restaurants in Salcombe were fully booked. This restaurant was less than half full all evening. I wonder why ….£28 for slightly over cooked pasta, £6 for few pieces of bread!! £6 for few olives!!!!… Food generally is good, service, presentation & decor all very good. Reduce the price & they’ll be fully booked all evening!

Fantastic food, location and service. Had a meal to celebrate completing the Banford Swoosh (with cramp in both calves!) Love the Asian twist on some dishes. We had Tempura King Prawns with a buttternut squash and peanut butter purée to start. So good! He had King Prawn Linguine with King Prawns and cherry tomatoes with brown crabmeat and chilli and garlic also available as a vegan vegetable linguine. Food envy!! But my King Prawn Aloo Gobi - mildly spiced pan fried king prawns with Bombay potatoes and cauliflower purée with spicy mango and coriander chutney was delicious. Finished with Stick Toffee Pudding served with Custard absolutely banging

We chose this restaurant for a special occasion as it was advertised as a waterside restaurant, I emailed two weeks in advance to request a table overlooking the sea, which they emailed back to confirm, we arrived and were seated in the back room which was completely separate to the restaurant. The food was ok but not worth the price and the staff did not make us feel welcome actually we felt quite an inconvenience - not sure if this was just because we were seated out of the main restaurant. It was an expensive meal and it really wasn’t worth it.

Not sure what to say about this restaurant. Was rather confused at the men… fish takes on an Indian/asian cuisine? Have been here before and came back to a very different menu. All in all we ordered starters and mains for the table, which was a great mix of sea food - cold and warm. Food was pleasant and rather tasty, portion size was poor for myself and the 8 guests. For the cost of £22-34 price of main, cheapest being £22 I was disappointed with the portion size. Food was yummy though. Again for the starters £13-£20 for a starter and portion sizes were small, you couldn’t share them. An okay selection of wine. The views looked beautiful, but I guess that’s what you are paying for if you are out on the deck, we were inside so didn’t take in the views. Also to mention the fish and chips was lovely - not in too over powering batter! Bathrooms need updating as rather dirty and old. Would go back for a light lunch and make sure I’ve got plenty of money to spend, as this is not a cheap one.

Nice place. Lots of young staff, food was good but overpriced....£29 for a small bowl of king prawn linguine is in the fine dining bracket. At least they didn't over cook the prawns. Left hungry and £130 lighter in the wallet. Got Ice creams on the way home 😘. Food was 4 star but overall am giving it 3 due to price. 2 adults and 2 kids crammed onto a single table (normally used for 2) too many glasses on the table, water jug and more turned it into a game of chess. Pretty sure pricing was just to keep the commoners out.

Booked a table for 2 indoors after being told there were no tables outside. On arrival there were 3 or 4 tables free outside. We ordered food and drinks, and waited over 1 hour for the food - but no one had mentioned there was a wait on food, nor was it acknowledged. We asked whilst waiting to move outside to the vacant tables with a view, twice, and on the second time we were successful. Food was nice but overpriced and not exceptional. To add insult to injury, they added a service charge anyway to the bill. Given the abundance of fresh seafood in the area, its a shame everything on the menu was deep fried. Wouldn't go again.

Chose this restaurant for its superb views of the estuary, however, we were seated at a table where my wife had the view and I had my back to it. We were welcomed in and the staff were friendly and very efficient and attentive (couldn't fault them) and the food arrived quickly. My wife was happy with her meal so this review is based on my experience. As we were on holiday I decided to push the boat out somewhat and opted for a fish course - prawn cocktail starter at just over £12 and the Fritto Misto (lemon sole, king prawns, squid rings and an asian salad) at £28.95. I'm not in the habit of ordering such expensive mains but thought at that price it must be rather special. It wasn't. The prawn cocktail arrived in a narrow glass and consisted of some prawns in a sauce placed on top of some dull shredded lettuce with some cress perched on top. I could have done a better job myself at home and would have been embarassed to serve this up to friends as a prawn cocktail. It was bland with little flavour. The Fritto Misto consisted of three goujon-shaped pieces of lemon sole (presumably an expensive fish), two king prawns and two small squid rings, all fried in tempura batter. The squid rings were perched on top of an asian salad which I didn't find at all special. The squid rings themselves I never managed to chew through. The accompanying sweet lime dressing in a small pot tasted no different really to Hellmann's Mayonnaise. This main I found totally underwhelming and I got through it in about 10 minutes, deliberately eating slowly to try to give my wife time to finish her meal at the same time as me. If this meal had been served in a pub I still would have been disappointed. I had two glasses of wine and an Irish Coffee (which was excellent) and my wife had a fruit juice. Including service charge the total came to about £104. I don't mind spending this sort of money on a meal for two once in a while but I expect it to be rather special taste-wise and this wasn't. At these prices I wouldn't risk coming back in the future to try something different. Shame really.

We had high hopes but what an expensive disappointment. We had mains and drinks. I have to say the fritto Misto was bland and boring. The only flavour was in the Asian salad that accompanied this dish. The sole and squid dipped and cooked in temporary batter added nothing to this dish. The ‘Famous fish and chips’ were ok, nothing special really with a pea purée that had a little spice added to lift the price. The chips in a little bucket, why? The overcooked dregs of the chip fryer hidden under the main batch of chips. Really sorry but £83 for this meal two glasses of wine a gin and tonic is really taking liberties. This place is over priced and trying to be something better than it is. The wine list is basic and not very exciting either. The decor was lovely as was the view, ambience and the waitresses who served us were ok. If there is access for disabled we didn’t see it but two flights of steep stairs is inhibiting. We had read the reviews and thought it would be great to eat out while visiting the town. Sadly won’t be returning.

The vegan curry was okay however the rice was completely raw and unedible. I called up about it and the waitress was nice but the male manager was horrible. He accused me of lying as he said he had cooked said rice. He initially refused a refund and it took a ridiculous amount of negotiation and a threat to post videos of the raw rice to finally get one. The male manager was patronising and exceptionally rude to us on the phone. The fish and chips were tasty, however the fish was pretty small, especially given the price! The burgers were enjoyed and would be recommended again. Overall, it is a shame that the behaviour of one manager tarnished our experience. Mine had maybe seven or eight minuscule prawns, certainly not king prawns as advertised, and loads, in fact far too much, sauce presumably to top up the plastic takeaway box; my wife’s had lots of carrots peas and beans and one bit of broccoli, which could easily have come out of a frozen packet! There was no sweet potato, and maybe one bit of pepper. Seasonal vegetables? We think not!To say we are disappointed is an understatement. The onion bhajis and the rice though were good, so not all bad. However I think you should be aware that it will not be our intention to get another takeaway from you any time soon.

The location and setting is a great as ever. Possibly the best spot in Salcombe, however the food quality has slid in quality since our last visit. Eaten here twice this week, so here are my thoughts and I hope they help future customers and the team in charge. First, the pros; the staff are friendly and efficient, the service is reasonably well-paced. Now the cons; the menu didn't have any fresh fish (which you'd expect in Salcombe), the veggie options are pretty limited and the overall food quality has dropped several notches. The desserts lack imagination, effort and presentation and the tables outside are very cramped, especially if you're on a table for two. I really hope D&W can get back to past standards as we've had many great meals over the years. But right now it's 3/5 and at this price point is not good enough.

The setting is nice, but apart from that it has taken a total nose dive. The food was barely edible, the prawns cocktail was freezing cold, soggy & wet! The curry was full of corn starch barely and fish & completely tasteless barely the standard of a cheap ready meal. Complete let down & exceedingly overpriced!

I Was really looking forward to eating in this restaurant - The food was actually nice so well done chef but the service was very poor - I asked if they had just reopened thinking maybe teathing probs but they had been open nearly 3 weeks - We waited awhile for a drinks order then to order and after desert order was taken had to chase after 15 minutes. No atmosphere the view blocked by the outside marquee window and the general feel was visitors to Salcombe were given the back tables and locals all with the views - I had booked at least 6 weeks beforehand so was bemused I was stuck at the back of the terrace so no first to book table choice. As an event manager I know customer service and these guys need to re look at things. Not sure if they will actually be bothered

Overpriced food in a restaurant trading on its past (when it was good). Sat in close proximity to others in a stifling atmosphere. Shabby decor. There fish and chips to be brutally honest were on a par with Wetherspoons. The prawn cocktail was catering college standard and appeared minutes after the order had been placed. Poor all round.

Nice enough food, but very pricey for gastro pub fare. Nearly £300 for 4 adults and 2 kids (3 courses and drinks)

The menu is very limited but good. Takeaway curry was excellent and would definitely go back another time. Order ahead and collect.

Despite the restaurant being closer the guys are doing take away food. Ordered the massaman curry and it was simply delicious. Not a huge fan of black rice but it worked with the curry. Highly recommend! Yum

Ordered a take away as only available in these tricky times. But... not great at all. Ordered randang curry but nothing but a cheap Chinese style curry at best. Not a rending paste in sight just a cornflour thickened sauce. £17 for rubbish food. Would have taken it back but couldn’t due to Covid!

Enjoyed a coffee or two here a few times and each time has been pleasant. Lovely location with lovely views out onto the estuary from the balcony.

My friend and I came down to Salcombe for bank holiday weekend and decided to eat in the first night. Called Up DickandWills and 15 minutes later was tucking into the most incredible Seabass goujons and my friend said her fish and chips is the best she has ever tasted. The home made tartar sauce was to die for and the fish batter was light over the huge hunk of fresh fish. Have eaten previously inside the restaurant and their takeaway was just as good! Excellent, friendly and quick service. Thank you!

The top establishment in a fabulous location overlooking the estuary in Salcombe. We have eaten here a number of times, the most recent being a take away. Every time we have had the most delicious, beautifully presented food and wine. A well run, friendly, top class restaurant - highly recommended - try it for yourselves!

|We have eaten at Dick and Wills a number of times and had excellent food and wine on each occasion. This is a well run establishment, the owners are delightful, the food is local and fresh and the wine list is excellent. Our most recent visit was for a take away which was beautifully presented and delicious as usual. The burger and fish and chips were particularly good. Arrived on time, ready for collection and as usual we were greeted by friendly and helpful staff and it was excellent value.Highly recommended and well worth a visit if you're in the Salcombe area.

We last ate here about 9 years ago; although the small dining room was quiet, pleasant, and with well spaced tables, we felt the food was 'just ok'. We didn't revisit until this year when prompted by a positive review in the Times. Due to parking problems, we were a bit late, and although we updated the restaurant, we were left in the rather unappealing little bar for quite a while, before being 'led' through to the dining room.... ....which was packed and noisy, with tables jammed really close together. The kitchen was knocking out tableful's of the set menu, and the bar was doing good business. Although the staff were pleasant, 'elegant' this was not. As one of us was driving, we ordered mineral water and a half bottle of white at around £27. This arrived in a carafe, not a half bottle, and was simply put on the table - we weren't shown the bottle or given any further info. Unwisely, we chose off the a la carte. The gnocchi were small and had been made with a heavy hand, resulting in a springy texture not unlike supermarket gnocchi. I asked who made them, thinking they'd been bought in; the answer was 'the chef'. The amount of gnocchi compared to sauce and egg yolk was disproportionately small, and would have been better eaten with a spoon. My main choice was brill cooked al forno - my favourite fish. This was served whole, grey skin up, and warm, not hot. Although the brill was cooked through, there was no sign of any crispness or coloration from the grill at all, and a complete lack of texture. The lack of texture was exacerbated by a sweet, very liquid tomato sauce with small cubes of dull red tomato - and absolutely no acidity - which had been poured over the whole fish. My partner's hake was better, but she commented that it was a very small portion of fish, and plated with the nicely browned side underneath (?). The simple sides were good, but at £6.50-£7, they should be. The people next to us were loudly effusive about their lunch, so perhaps we are not The Seahorse's target market - or maybe we should have stuck to the £35 lunch menu. And for us, there were too many tables in what is a relatively small space. But they make a big deal of their fresh seafood and their 'passion' for Italian cuisine. Sadly, it wasn't demonstrated in the cooking quality or the presentation.

A friend took me here for a coffee and cake. I had not realised it had been updated (I thought it was a pizza del establishment). What a great cafe, hub and great addition to Kingsbridge. They also have live music and mic nights.
