Nice place. Lots of young staff, food was good but overpriced....£29 for a small bowl of king prawn linguine is in the fine dining bracket. At least they didn't over cook the prawns. Left hungry and £130 lighter in the wallet. Got Ice creams on the way home 😘. Food was 4 star but overall am giving it 3 due to price. 2 adults and 2 kids crammed onto a single table (normally used for 2) too many glasses on the table, water jug and more turned it into a game of chess. Pretty sure pricing was just to keep the commoners out.

Booked a table for 2 indoors after being told there were no tables outside. On arrival there were 3 or 4 tables free outside. We ordered food and drinks, and waited over 1 hour for the food - but no one had mentioned there was a wait on food, nor was it acknowledged. We asked whilst waiting to move outside to the vacant tables with a view, twice, and on the second time we were successful. Food was nice but overpriced and not exceptional. To add insult to injury, they added a service charge anyway to the bill. Given the abundance of fresh seafood in the area, its a shame everything on the menu was deep fried. Wouldn't go again.

Chose this restaurant for its superb views of the estuary, however, we were seated at a table where my wife had the view and I had my back to it. We were welcomed in and the staff were friendly and very efficient and attentive (couldn't fault them) and the food arrived quickly. My wife was happy with her meal so this review is based on my experience. As we were on holiday I decided to push the boat out somewhat and opted for a fish course - prawn cocktail starter at just over £12 and the Fritto Misto (lemon sole, king prawns, squid rings and an asian salad) at £28.95. I'm not in the habit of ordering such expensive mains but thought at that price it must be rather special. It wasn't. The prawn cocktail arrived in a narrow glass and consisted of some prawns in a sauce placed on top of some dull shredded lettuce with some cress perched on top. I could have done a better job myself at home and would have been embarassed to serve this up to friends as a prawn cocktail. It was bland with little flavour. The Fritto Misto consisted of three goujon-shaped pieces of lemon sole (presumably an expensive fish), two king prawns and two small squid rings, all fried in tempura batter. The squid rings were perched on top of an asian salad which I didn't find at all special. The squid rings themselves I never managed to chew through. The accompanying sweet lime dressing in a small pot tasted no different really to Hellmann's Mayonnaise. This main I found totally underwhelming and I got through it in about 10 minutes, deliberately eating slowly to try to give my wife time to finish her meal at the same time as me. If this meal had been served in a pub I still would have been disappointed. I had two glasses of wine and an Irish Coffee (which was excellent) and my wife had a fruit juice. Including service charge the total came to about £104. I don't mind spending this sort of money on a meal for two once in a while but I expect it to be rather special taste-wise and this wasn't. At these prices I wouldn't risk coming back in the future to try something different. Shame really.

We had high hopes but what an expensive disappointment. We had mains and drinks. I have to say the fritto Misto was bland and boring. The only flavour was in the Asian salad that accompanied this dish. The sole and squid dipped and cooked in temporary batter added nothing to this dish. The ‘Famous fish and chips’ were ok, nothing special really with a pea purée that had a little spice added to lift the price. The chips in a little bucket, why? The overcooked dregs of the chip fryer hidden under the main batch of chips. Really sorry but £83 for this meal two glasses of wine a gin and tonic is really taking liberties. This place is over priced and trying to be something better than it is. The wine list is basic and not very exciting either. The decor was lovely as was the view, ambience and the waitresses who served us were ok. If there is access for disabled we didn’t see it but two flights of steep stairs is inhibiting. We had read the reviews and thought it would be great to eat out while visiting the town. Sadly won’t be returning.

On a positive note, the two young waitresses who served us were delightful. When we arrived the apartment above the restaurant had a burglar alarm going off - must have been a bit of a nightmare for staff and diners as apparently it had been going on for ages. But luckily for us stopped 10 minutes after we arrived - to a massive cheer from everybody. Huge kudos to the staff for dealing with some pretty unreasonable patrons. Would not recommend. We got takeout from here, and not a cheap one at that. We got 2 burgers, fish and chips and the vegan curry with rice. The vegan curry was okay however the rice was completely raw and unedible. I called up about it and the waitress was nice but the male manager was horrible. He accused me of lying as he said he had cooked said rice. He initially refused a refund and it took a ridiculous amount of negotiation and a threat to post videos of the raw rice to finally get one. The male manager was patronising and exceptionally rude to us on the phone. The fish and chips were tasty, however the fish was pretty small, especially given the price! The burgers were enjoyed and would be recommended again. Overall, it is a shame that the behaviour of one manager tarnished our experience. The rice was undercooked, however we know these things happen! The response to our complaint was unsatisfactory.

(This is a copy of an email I sent to the restaurant. I was not intending to post it on here but, as i received no reply, I decided that I would).I am writing to say that both my wife and myself were expecting rather more for our £16.95 and £15.95 respectively this evening from the takeaways we ordered (6.20 time).I had a prawn curry, my wife the vegan one. Mine had maybe seven or eight minuscule prawns, certainly not king prawns as advertised, and loads, in fact far too much, sauce presumably to top up the plastic takeaway box; my wife’s had lots of carrots peas and beans and one bit of broccoli, which could easily have come out of a frozen packet! There was no sweet potato, and maybe one bit of pepper. Seasonal vegetables? We think not!To say we are disappointed is an understatement. The onion bhajis and the rice though were good, so not all bad. However I think you should be aware that it will not be our intention to get another takeaway from you any time soon.

The location and setting is a great as ever. Possibly the best spot in Salcombe, however the food quality has slid in quality since our last visit. Eaten here twice this week, so here are my thoughts and I hope they help future customers and the team in charge. First, the pros; the staff are friendly and efficient, the service is reasonably well-paced. Now the cons; the menu didn't have any fresh fish (which you'd expect in Salcombe), the veggie options are pretty limited and the overall food quality has dropped several notches. The desserts lack imagination, effort and presentation and the tables outside are very cramped, especially if you're on a table for two. I really hope D&W can get back to past standards as we've had many great meals over the years. But right now it's 3/5 and at this price point is not good enough.

My family booked this restaurant as a surprise for my 60th birthday celebration in Salcombe. They had made the booking two months in advance. When we arrived at 8pm we found the door to the restaurant had been locked. We managed to get in as two people were leaving. When we booked in we were told by a very nice young lady that our table was for 7.30. The owner/Manager then very aggressively approached us and told us our booking was for 7.30 not 8pm and that he had tried to contact us by phone. We apologised and explained we thought it was 8pm. In a very rude manner he said he could show us the email if we didn’t believe him. The restaurant was very quiet with only one other table occupied. We accept we made a mistake but as it had been two months since making the booking my husband had forgotten the time and wrongly assumed it was 8pm. We then realised he had locked us out of the restaurant on purpose. It was obvious he wanted to close early and we were spoiling his plans. Had he explained in a courteous manner that we had missed our booking that would have been fine. However he was extremely rude and his manner was very abrasive. We left the restaurant which was probably what he wanted but we were able to have a better meal with a better menu choice, friendly service and a much nicer ambiance at the South Sands Hotel. This gentleman needs to understand that mistakes do happen. We were very apologetic and accepted responsibility however his customer service was less than zero. Restaurants like this in holiday resorts don’t really care about customer experience as their customers come and go. But there are many restaurants in Salcombe so I would recommend this one should be left as a last resort as he has clearly shown that your custom is worth nothing.

Nice venue and nice setting - I presume that's what we were paying for that rather than the food. The menu sounds interesting but execution was about average. Small portions (frito misto was about 6 small pieces - a bit of a shock compared with Italian restaurants), and the "Asian salad" was more like an undressed coleslaw as mainly cabbage and carrots (same as the salad base of the beef salad starter) and not much beef. King prawn and squid starter - more like little princes and not much flavour. The mains at £25 do not come with any sides - so to get a enough to eat is £30 main course. I wouldn't mind if the food was good or plentiful - but this was barely average.

Although great and the staff lovely the restaurant is way too loud the acoustics are terrible - we had to apologize to the table next to us and another table apologized to us for being to loud as the sound reverberates around.Food is moderate and it would not be a repeat for me - it felt microwaved and manufactured for the priceLooks like it would be a much better summer venue

We had an enjoyable evening here as a group of four. All the staff were very friendly and attentive. Good help with advising about the menu and plenty of them around throughout the meal so there was never a wait if you needed something. The highlight from the menu was the burger. Served rare, as requested. It’s refreshing to find somewhere that will actually cook it rare. Genuinely a delicious burger with great accompaniments. The fish and chips wasn’t as good, it was Hake but didn’t work so well in batter, as it took on more grease than cod or haddock would have done. I would not hesitate to return here, ideally during daytime hours so you can enjoy the spectacular view.

Stopped in on the off chance not expecting a table, from the first moment the service was first class. Waitress was very friendly and helpful, owner more than happy to mix drinks not on the menu, considering there were five of us (men enjoying a few drinks) I thought they might not welcome us, but they were so nice we stayed for a meal too, food was unreal, aloo gobi has to be tried!Great value great service great food, a real treat!

Enjoyed this place a little different from the eat of Salcombe, a proper meal out for two and a first class rump steak.

The menu on the face of it reads really well, and looks quite inspiring. However the reality is very different - over-priced dishes for what you actually get: We did complaint about certain dishes but was merely told "oh sorry I will tell the chef" !We paid £72 per head for a really average meal - food overcooked and served lukewarm, small portions considering the cost, and really poor Customer Value. For the first time ever we did not leave a gratuity - says it all really, We will not return here.

Booked a table for eight for 7-30. Start with the positives: nice venue, good ambience, very much looks the part. Good and friendly service too so no complaints on that front. Good wine selection and all reasonably priced. Food was a bit of a let down. Prawn cocktail starter was a mere handful of prawns with some lettuce in a glass - bit underwhelming but OK - main course of the fish, however, was very poor, with lumps of rock salt to the extent that two of our party pretty much left it all. Plates were cleared away, however, while I was still eating and then we are told if we didn't order pudding immediately the kitchen will close. That was at 8.55!! We all, therefore, declined. Had I been the owner I would be doing my nut - they effectively lost eight puddings, eight coffees and probably another bottle of wine all for rushing us out of the door. This is not the depths of winter either, but early evening on a saturday just a couple of weeks ago. So a shame really. We were all disappointed; it could have been so much better.

We boated up from my brothers home and were able to secure a table outside, the service here is very good and quick so if you need a prompt lunch these guys will provide a great meal from a well sourced menu and perfect sizing. The wine list is fine for summer and covered all needs from champagne to a good beer selection. The property is also a hotel so if needed accommodation is also on site. Come here with your family or as a couple for a quiet lunch and catch up.

Beautiful setting and the food was very good (fiah and chips) but maybe because it was lunch time there wasn't a lot of atmosphere. The only problem was that when we left we had to visit the toilet and rather unxpectedly all the lights were out when we cam out and we had to switch the lights on to find our way out. We felt that they couldnt wait for us to leave, which was a pity.

This was plain average. The food is overpriced and, with the exception of the frito misto, pretty uninteresting.

Whilst it is in a lovely location, the food was bland and uninteresting. The veggie/vegan options were a complete afterthought. The citrus pot sweet was so covered in a syrup to make it practical inedible. The veggie option of the burger was served with two cold and greasy onion rings and was served so completely piled high that it was impossible to eat without taking it completely apart. The tempura fish salad my husband had was tasty but so over priced. The only reason we didn’t complain at the time was that this was a special meal for us and we didn’t want to spoil the night. Luckily we had some much nicer meals in salcombe whilst on our honeymoon. We wouldn’t recommend eating here.

Nearly got a poor rating but just escaped that. Can only describe the experience as pretty average. We both had their so called 'Famous fish & chips' - they were really rather ordinary and expensive at that - and nowhere near as good as other places in town including the F&C; shop!

Two visits aborted due to the restaurant just closing their doors when they feel like it. No notice given on website or at the door. Suggest you try the more amenable South Sands Hotel where the concept of opening a restaurant at meal times has been embraced.

Why when trying to book a table for two on a Saturday night not in the school holidays two weeks in advance they can't offer anything later than 7pm?

Decided to eat outside even though it was dull and a little chilly at 7pm. Others had drinks outside and retreated to the dinning room for their meals. We ended up with the terrace to ourselves which was very pleasing. We enjoyed our meals, not amazing but very tasty. My beetroot was delicious and the fish though not the chips, was delicious in a light and crunchy batter. Wine was very reasonable and service was excellent. Would definitely go back.

This was our third visit to DickandWills and wasn’t our most enjoyable. After having a memorable evening a few years ago and subsequently taking a guest for afternoon drinks last year we went for an anniversary dinner last night. Sadly the weather was not conducive to sitting in the garden and enjoying the best views of Salcombe Harbour which I now realise was the main reason our previous visits were so successful. The menu was fairly limited and frankly there was very little difference between my starter of king prawns and squid and the main of Fritto Misto, both having an abundance of julienned veggies and a miserly portion of seafood. I have to rate the service to be well below par for a restaurant charging £18 for fish and chips or a burger and £25 for an average main course. Our waitress exhibited a catalog of shortcomings such as removing the wine list as soon as we ordered aperitifs, bringing the starters and bottle of wine before we had finished the aperitif and just leaving the bottle when I explained I was not ready to taste the wine while still drinking my gin fizz. I may be old fashioned but I don’t expect to pay £120 for a dinner served by poorly trained staff wearing dirty white trainers.
