A fun, relaxed place to enjoy sea food. Menu is dependent on the catch of the day which is exciting. Cooked on the BBQ in the summer. Ordered lobster so a bit pricier than other options but was delicious

The Spidercrab & Saffron Croquettes are to die for and the Dressed Crab was heavenly. Not too badly priced for a seafood restaurant either (a lot less expensive than our local one). Will we return next time we're here? I'd say definitely!

A lovely meal in a very relaxed atmosphere. We had oysters and the catch of the day, gurnard. Really delicious food and truly dog friendly. Chatty and friendly waiting staff. Free bottle of picpoul as per the Facebook offer! What more could you want?

Beyond satisfied!!! Unbelievable food and even better service from our waiter. He was really friendly and went above and beyond for us as my wife has a nut allergy and made extra effort to ensure our food was perfect. Now the food, wow, anything and everything and I especially lived the oysters. 10/10

First discovered this place by accident last year and wanted to return, as we enjoyed such a great meal then and wasn't disappointed. My husband chose the catch of the day, with my son having the kids version. I decided to have 2 starters, the tacos & spider crab croquettes along with an oyster, with the truffle & hazelnut dressing, which was absolutely delicious. Would advise you book a table, although we were lucky and there was a table free but we visited early in the evening. There are good looking veggie options. Looking forward to our next visit.

Had the sole with chive and caper sauce one of the best fish I’ve ever had, loved it!

I know it seems excessive to give 5 stars but I cannot fault our experience. We went for a cooking demonstration followed by lunch yesterday. The chef who took the demonstration was obviously passionate about ensuring ethical standards of treatment for the crabs in the preparation of food. It makes a real difference to know how much respect is given to where produce comes from and how it is used. After the demonstration, which was both very informative and fun too, we had lunch. All the staff we met were friendly and thoughtful and the food we had was delicious. Thank you to all involved in creating such an enjoyable treat for us. We’ll be back again!

Great, fresh seafood in a really fun, totally unpretentious setting. The kids loved the pirate gear in the dressing up box and we thought the food was delicious.

This is a little gem! Really kitschy but in the best fun way. Food was simple but perfectly done. We had a tasting of oysters to start with six different flavours, scallops with sweet potato. And mussels for main course. The kids meal was also a beautiful piece of fish rather than the usual deep fried fare kids normally get. With three drinks and service it came to just over £100

Such a fantastic and special place, really attentive staff, the atmosphere is always lovely and the food is spectacular! The fish is always so wonderfully cooked and the oysters are the best my partner and I have tried!

Just had a meal here, starters ok…special meal so had the lobster… very disappointed… very chewy and over cooked… at £58 it should at least be cooked well…. So disappointed as heard some good reviews for the oyster shack… the food was not great 😌

The best oysters we have ever tasted, delicious toppings. We also had delicious scallops, mackerel, mussels and beef cheek, finished with ginger ice cream. Their own gin is lovely and we took a bottle home. Great wine and cider also. The service is fantastic friendly helpful staff. We love the decor and atmosphere. Highly recommend, this is our 2nd visit and we can’t wait to return.

Absolutely delightful! Quickly, a note on how to get there- sat nav wants to send you across the tidal road- be careful and very much consider taking the route through St Ann instead. Salty water plus car = not great! But the other route is fine! Staff were lovely and friendly and professional. We were there for the last booking on a Sunday in winter (January). We could see the chefs preparing the food, and we could observe how carefully and with attention to detail they prepared it. Always an excellent sign! We had 6 oysters- 3 with the hot toppings (which got the thumbs up from my partner) and I had 3 with the cold toppings. The oysters were meaty and delicious. The scallops on pumpkin purée came with a small salad which was subtly and deliciously dressed. The scallops with the pumpkin purée flavours were amazing. For mains we had the fish special- a Coley in teriyaki which came with lovely vegetables. I had the hot and sour soup with soba noodles, bok choi, various other veg and it came with lovely chicken and delicious prawns. I am a (self appointed) soup aficionado and particularly love Tom Yum, so for me it was delightful and extremely tasty and satisfying. A note on thé menu (from asking the lovely waiters) - the mènu does change but staples stay the same. In the warmer months apparently they focus on more bbq fish menus. We had a lovely time and I would highly recommend The Oyster Shack. It is also very well priced and excellent value for very good produce. Edited to add re a previous review by someone: I found the toilets to be very clean and the same for the restaurant.

If fish is your thing, this is the place to eat. Fresh fish and seafood cooked to perfection. Good wine list, excellent unobtrusive service. I have eaten there a few times and never been disappointed. The newish layout also is an improvement and works well. Prices are not exorbitant

Food was rather disappointing. The oysters with teriyaki sauce was the high point. All 3 of us that went there thought the same.

Such a unique experience. It felt like I was in my own village back in the south east Asia in a thatched hut with fishermen around. Food was lovely too. We will definitely come back again.

What a great place. Even the drive in was spectacular. Service was top notch and the food was even better. The fish and mussels were so fresh and tasty. You can tell that the owners, chef's and staff take pride in what they do. We went on Sunday and my only complaint is they were shut on Monday so we couldn't return the next day! 10/10

The cleanliness let's this place down. It's like the toilet cubicles have never been cleaned, taps don't work properly, cobwebs all over the inside of the loo. Dirty floor and walls. Dusty. The staff use the same loos, and there didn't seem to be any hot water which is worrying. The food was tasty, but is on the pricey side. Waiters and waitresses were nice and accommodating.

Will certainly revisit and have no hesitation recommending. We visited in October with 2 teenage kids, 2 adults and a dog. The kids had pasta (shame) and it was surprisingly good. The Thai monkfish was excellent (one bit of monkfish short of perfect. The whole fresh crab was fantastic- just note you are in for the long haul. Even the dogs fish dish looked great.

The menu is not what it used to be. Very limited and quite pricey. No lobster or anything else frankly, in the lobster croquettes. Friends still loved the oysters though. Most of the staff were very friendly but management couldn’t be bothered to manage other rowdy diners or make us comfortable. Won’t be back.

A really quirky place that wouldn’t feel out of place in the Caribbean. Great arrive, too food, the mackerel special was just that. Out of this world. If you’re in the area it’s well worth a visit and really friendly staff too

This place used to be one of my favourites the food used to be of a very high standard but sadly we will not be returning. We had a reservation last night, we were seated outside. The drinks and seafood tacos were ok but the main meals were below standard. I had the burger which I expected to be from a local butcher and have some taste, I was wrong. What I was served was the same as you would except from a burger van. Two flat tasteless burgers which I can only assume were frozen burgers. Not what you would expect. My partner has the sea bass which was ok. No chips were served with the meal as they were forgotten. This used to be a hidden gem but sadly the food is now below standard.

This quirky and unique restaurant is a must visit for those who love fish or seafood visiting the Bigbury area. Ingredients are super fresh, and the menu caters for all ages and appetites. Service attentive and friendly. We loved it, and will definitely return.

Still atmospheric, but pricing is a bit high for location. Entertainment only average but it was raining hard. Guitarists didn't engage with his audience. Could do with alternative side dishes as not everyone can cope with the coarse cut salad. New potatoes and veg with the delicious fish/crab/lobster.

Great seafood, good service. Parking awkward as place was full at 1pm. Although one access road is tidal (the one sat nav steered us to) don't panic there is another way!

Family of 4 …we arrived 30 mins and expected to wait / have a drink but our table was ready . The Shack is very unique and quirky.. definitely not your standard restaurant but a great vibe .. families / couples / dogs. We ordered Prawn Cocktails they are pricy and could come with more sauce .. But their main fish dishes are very good , fresh and very tasty . Good choice of drinks and desserts too . You definitely need to book and allow time to find The Shack .

Difícilmente se puede comparar con las ostras gallegas (planas o rugosas), no tanto por su tamaño, que también, pero mas por su sabor... eché de menos esa explosión de sabor a mar en mi boca, muy adornadas con toppings pero el sabor del producto rs lo que tiene que predominar. En cuanto al buey de mar hay algún proceso de cocinado que no hace que esté a la altura del precio que pagas, la carne de la cabeza estaba muy seca. En general este restaurante está bien, pero claro, ya sabemos que pasa cuando comparamos y mas cuando el marisco es un producto que consumo desde muy pequeño. Gracias team, nice experice!

Delicious fresh seafood and friendly service in a fun and quirky setting. The whole crab and grilled mackerel were divine.

We came for lunch with our small children after booking a table for 2:30. The waiter was impatient when taking our order, advising us that we were the last table and that the kitchen had closed. We had booked a table and had only just arrived so I found this really peculiar and sort of set the tone which was a shame as she could have been a lot friendlier. My husband enjoyed his oysters and scallops and the sea bass was delicious. I thought it was quite pricy though - especially because it seemed they were desperate to get rid of us so we wouldn’t come again.

Super meal, great service, no ambiance. Very busy for a Monday evening, lots of very loud people and even louder kids. Maybe it’s just me getting old.

We have wanted to visit the Oyster Shack for some time, but the opportunity just did not arise. So, for a special occasion we booked a table. Amazing experience. Pleasant atmosphere. People enjoying a night out - groups of friends, families, couples, people with dogs. We chose the mackerel and it was the best ever! Dessert was pretty good too. The service was spot on- with requested guidance given clearly. Actually getting there was a bit of a mission as it was high tide so we had to use the narrow lanes, but no matter. Extremely worthwhile.

What a find! The greatest seafood I have ever eaten and it tastes amazing. A great laid back atmosphere with live music on a Friday, a real treat.

We had a great family meal here. It's definitely not a cheap dinner but the grilled mackerel and sea bass dishes were fantastic (our 7 y.o and 4 y.o. devoured them) and the staff were helpful

Traveled down from Scotland to Cornwall to visiting family. First visit to this restaurant, but most definitely not our last. Food was simply outstanding and the service equally amazing. A real “must” - you will definitely not be disappointed. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.

came here for a bite to eat at the weekend whilst visiting my daughter, its her favorite place to eat. i can now see why, wonderful food, great atmosphere and fantastic staff, could not fault it. its so quirky and nice.

First appearances - it looks like a refuse site. However inside it's warm and inviting. The food is quite magnificent - I had the crab at £36 expensive but I couldn't manage the legs I was too full.

The wine was good and the mackerel tasty.

Wonderful place with restricted entry due to the tides which adds to it’s quirkiness frankly - we didn’t have a table but arrived at 5pm and they squeezed us in for an hour which was brilliant. Food was lovely, service was even better - lovely place to have an early dinner in the Devon sunshine.

Great place. Fresh fish specials, lobster and Salcombe crab on the specials menu. Extensive range of starters and mains on the main menu also. All the food looked fabulous, as was ours. A great place to get fresh fish. Nothing flash but great food. Dog friendly although you will need to let them know when booking. Try the local gin thats for sale. Check the tide times as one road in is tidal.

Wonderful, super dog friendly place (as in you are not even feeling like a castaway just because you are with a dog :)) Delicious and fresh food with lovely staff. Loved the tap in the restroom as well, just forgot to take a pic, but now you have to check it out for yourself :) limited parking so booking in advance might be recommended.

The crab was amazing - plenty of bread, butter, mayo and salad leaves - loved the sandcastle bucket for all the empty shell.

One good waiter, one not so good. 2 decent human meals and one disgusting dog meal (priced at £6.50). Sad because we had been before and had a great time. Standards slipping and complacency setting in?

We came to celebrate my friend’s 60 and the staff made the evening spectacular. Thank you all for the music and the round of shots and indulging us oldies- we had the best time. The food was amazing too x
