We had whole roast Megrim, really exceptional, and Gurnard fillets.

Absolutely beautiful food. Fish is locally caught produce locally sourced. Amazing. Will keep going back when we visit Devon again and again. Staff are polite, knowledgeable and always happy to help. 👍

Started off with small hot bread loaf with butter. Absolutely delicious! Than Hake and chops. The Hake was very nice. No exaggeration, the best fish and chips ever.

APR 2024 update: Still great food, had a table away from the door so was much better. earlier: Great food, friendly staff, could have done with being away from the front door as we got chilled every time it opened, apart from that it was an enjoyable meal, would go again when the wind is warmer. Not sure if they serve dessert as non was offered.

So disappointed about the way of sending us to other places to have lunch. No empathy, no struggle to find a way for 7 persons to eat in. We were, obviously, from another town. More than that, we were advised, after we suggested we can split us for two tables that there were no tables available for 4 or 3 persons until 15:45. We counted 7 free tables on the shop floor, 2 of them for 4 people, each. So, after we were politely refused, we looked into the app and were surprised. See please, photos attached. A few conclusions: they didn't want money, they were not trained to sell their products, the owner doesn't know how the employees are treating the clients, they didn't have enough stuff to support a Sunday ... It's a pity, a lot of businesses are struggling these days and the clients can make the difference. Good luck, but be careful the season is coming...

I had a number of restaurant reservations for my trip to Dartmouth. But after visiting Rockfish I cancelled them all, as I wanted to eat there every day of my holiday. I've returned to London two days ago and I already miss this restaurant so much. The quality of seafood is superb, and I loved the simple way they cook it (thank you for not using cream or complex sauces that would ruin the fish!). The service is impeccable and friendly, and I want to thank everyone for making our Dartmouth stay so special!

Quite simply passed-by the window and decided to eat at this lovely restaurant. The food was amazing, with the artisan bread kicking things off, followed by cuttlefish and whitebait starters before being followed by the Sole and the Haddock which were simply mouth-watering. A great bottle of Picpoul de Pinet helped savour the moment before the Apple Tart Tatin rounded off a memorable evening's foodie heaven. Our lovely Slovakian-born waitress (who has lived in Dartmouth for over 15 years, was a delight and the staff and manageress were brilliant at every stage. Well done Rockfish, we hope to be back soon. David & Sarah Hiller

Bad start when maitre'd couldn't find our booking on his ipad.. despite it being there, which we had to.point out to him. Made us feel unwelcome! Food rushed through.. whole meal in 45 mins, not a relaxed up market dining experience. Food not as good as our local chippy which is half the price! Overall ... disappointing!

Absolutely amazing seafood restaurant we went and had the platter for two for my birthday meal and it did not disappoint. Lovely staff and friendly service.it did get very busy so it is best to book a table before going m. Definitely worth the money loved it.

We visited Rockfish on spec, at lunchtime, not having booked and were lucky enough to get a table. We have previously visited Rockfish at Brixham and were ready for fishy delights. The food didn’t disappoint but what really made our visit was Joanee. What an absolute treasure. Unlike the young servers who had to refer to the menu for the fish of the day, Joanee had it off by heart. Lots of friendly local banter but still, very professional. 80 years young?? Never. Joanee you are the best. We want to take you home and put you behind the bar of our village pub. Thanks Rockfish and Mr Tonks. What an absolute treasure.

Oh wow what a great place. The staff were excelent and food even better. Tilly looked after us and service was second to none. We went for the 3 course set meal and wow its amazing. Fanstastic views,fantastic food and fantastic service, what more can you want.

I visited with my friends, the food was absolutely delicious, the king prawns were the best I’ve had! Joanie greeted us at the door and was delightful, gave us a very warm welcome and looked after throughout the meal. Highly recommended!

Seized upon the opportunity to visit Rockfish in Dartmouth whilst the crowds and tourists abatted during a damp and overcast Devonian Day - and certainly not disappointed. The staff were brilliant, even offering the pet hound a snack whilst we were taken through the extensive and locally caught menu by the team (briefed by the team - not that the team are fisher-people). Whilst it was pretty inevitable that i'd have battered fish and chips, my amazeballs wife ventured out into the wilderness of "fish we'd never heard of" and lept with both feet into a dish of Gunard Sole which was simply delicious. My haddock was nicely cooked with just enough chips... supplemented by just a few more with lashings of ketchup, tartare sauce vinegar and salt.... lovely. Whilst I definitely recommend booking ahead, there were a few spare tables when we arrived... although by 1300 the number of disappointed potential punters was increasing considerably, I expect that the likelihood of a walk-in over the summer is slight, but I leave that first world problem to those who holiday in the area during the Summer. All-in-all, a great meal, hosted by friendly staff. 5/5

Our second visit here and now we have made Rockfish our go to restaurant wherever we are on the south coast. The food itself is faultless if not to die for, fresh, delicate with ample portions, the service is friendly and efficient which makes for a comfortable none pretentious atmosphere.

Not disappointed by the excellent quality of the food and the outstanding service provided by Joanie. The fish and chips are some of the best around and she is a credit to the restaurant. We will no doubt return and do recommend. Top tip for colder days is to request a table away from the front door as it can be chilly!

Always been excellent but not tonight..the food that we ordered was not as we expected..bones and nt filated..so disappointed staff were excellent and very supportive thank you for that..Will eat elsewhere till reviews become better.. Real fish & chips and the service is amazing

We love Rockfish food and as locals we have been going there regularly for the past 13 years. However, our last visit was very difficult and unpleasant. Despite booking the night before and asking for a table away from the door, we were put closer to the door than we wanted. It was a cold day and there was a blast of cold air every time someone opened it ( a design fault of the restaurant). But worse was the number of unruly dogs. I counted eight large ones. One couple had two by the door who barked aggressively whenever anyone came in ,and particularly when other dogs came in or left. It was hard to have a conversation and there was tension in the air. We are torn, because as pescatarians we appreciate the freshness of the fish, something Rockfish do really well, but we like to have a relaxing time eating, so probably won’t go back.

A fantastic dining experience with my husband and two young children. Leah and Florence were absolutely brilliant and attentive. We look forward to coming back.

Dropped into Rockfish for dinner one night, fully booked but squeezed us into a cozy table near the window, food was great, fresh and tasty, like the menu table cloths, Will return.

Very overpriced for what you get. Basic fish and chips with no extras unless you pay for them. No peas only as an extra. Not very tasty. Have eaten better elsewhere. You are basically paying for the name. Will not be returning.

Walked in on NYE looking for a table for 7 of us. Most places in Dartmouth had stopped serving food so I politely said ’Hello, are you still serving food?’ The girl I was met with sarcastically said ‚well we do serve food, yes’ I laughed it off and continued saying there was 7 of us etc but noticed at the far end of the restaurant two young people, a brunette boy and a blonde girl, looking at me and laughing, turning and whispering and laughing again. We all went elsewhere. Won’t be returning.

Very nice and courteous staff. We felt welcomed as soon as we entered the restaurant. Smiling faces all around. We ordered two portions of fish and chips and one portion of tacos with rockfish fillets. These were fabulous. Overall a very good restaurant at an amazing location.

Such a beautiful town, the restaurant is cosy and has a great view across the estuary. I had the best fish and chips ever here. The battered Haddock was massive and absolutely delicious! Special mention also goes to the crispy squid starter 💪🏻

Good menu and beautifully cooked. All staff were very polite and attentive. Florence deserves a special mention for her detailed explanation of all the fresh fish dishes available and her fantastic friendly and welcoming attitude. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our lunch visit and will definitely come again when in the area.

We are friends with Mitch Tonks & went to the opening of his first ever "Rockfish" in Bristol. Irrespective of which outlet you visit, the quality & cooking of tasty food can always be guaranteed. We went to the Dartmouth restaurant & ate in but there is also a separate take-away around the corner. We had anchoiade with crusty bread & battered king prawns with Thai dip to start. Then cod, chips & curried mushy peas and turbot on the bone in Bearnaise sauce. There is a 2 course lunch meal deal - choice of 3 mains & 3 puds plus still / sparkling water for £20 each. NB with any main you have the option of unlimited chips but we were too full to take advantage of this. A special mention needs to be given to Joanie - a lovely, attentive waitress who is a real asset to the place. She is so friendly, welcoming & cares for the customers. We had an amazing wedding reception at Mitch's "The Seahorse" restaurant in 2016 & we told her today, that the only thing missing from it was her. She humbly accepted the compliment but I hope this review is reported back to her directly.

We got Fish 'n Chips for taking out and were blown away by the quality of the food! Absolutely amazing.

The food was really nice and tasty! We had straters, mains and dessert. Service was great - smiley and welcoming, with fast response to service. (Especially the young lady on the upper floor). We were touched by the gesture of the desert for my son's birthday!

Thank you so much for making my Mum feel just that little bit extra special on Monday evening. I brought her down to Dartmouth for a couple of days to celebrate her 80th birthday and she had the most amazing time. Her first time at Dartmouth and I wanted her to experience what a special place it is. Your lovely restaurant did not disappoint with amazing and friendly service and very delicious food (we had the brill). Looking forward to coming back again soon.

Surprisingly nice - we thought it was a chain but it’s a very small one. Charming casual seaside vibe and extensive menu with lovely fresh choices. Lovely staff, though to be honest service was slow, if charming (one more team member would help). Excellent fresh local calamari, delicious silver mullet and top quality hake and chips, together with a new one on us - curry mushy peas: a triumph! Shame there was no draft beer but local cans pretty good option.

Friendly efficient welcoming service. Fresh fish was delicious and the chips too. Let down by tiny serve of green salad - paid extra for. Come on - throw in a few more lettuce leaves and make it a remarkable meal!

Very informative & helpful when I enquired about gluten free options. Waiter was very reassuring of my meal being gluten free once brought to our table. I even had a gluten free dessert. Also gave me a taster of wine before I decided which wine I had. 10/10 on every level. Well Done Rockfish Dartmouth.

Stars are based on the food. We visited Rockfish in Dartmouth tonight, largely due to its glowing reviews. I found myself wondering, are these reviews genuine? My dining experience tells a different story. To begin with, we ordered the calamari and sweet peppers for appetizers. The calamari, instead of tender and flavorful, resembled fried zucchini more than squid. The sweet peppers tasted eerily similar to bottled banana peppers from the likes of Sainsbury's or the CO OP. Next up were the Fish Tacos. Though they looked the part, their taste was a stark contrast. After just one bite, they felt more like a dish you’d expect from a fast-food joint. The salsa had an overpowering cumin taste, masking other flavors. And when we decided to isolate and taste the fish from the taco, it reminded us of a fish finger. The garlic aioli, expected to provide a punch of flavor, tasted like plain mayonnaise with a conspicuous absence of garlic. Even the chips – a simple staple – were a letdown, coming across as overly greasy. To put it bluntly, Rockfish felt like a "McRockfish" experience: consistently mediocre and bland. I'm baffled by the rave reviews. If you're considering dining here, you might as well opt for a pub. The experience, in my opinion, wouldn't be much different.

Monkfish was good. Haddock was ok but didnt enjoy the buttery batter and the chips were very poor, just a few chips with lots of bits of chips underneath, no wonder its unlimited chips

My wife and I first went to Rockfish in Dartmouth over 10 years ago and loved it then. We’ve been a few times since (other sites as well) and it was the first place are out at when we stayed in Dartmouth last week. The food is still just as good, very fresh tasting and full of flavour. Service was great, we ended up going twice during our holiday. It was good to hear the shipping forecast still plays in the toilets! Looking forward to our next trip to Dartmouth which will definitely include a visit to Rockfish.

What a fantastic dinner! Excellent service - very friendly and helpful staff - and the food was really first-class. I had scallops followed by brill, my husband had mackerel followed by plaice fillets. All beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Loved the accompaniments - samphire and new potatoes. And the chips!!! Proper fish & chip shop chips, perfectly cooked and unlimited - you could order more if you wanted them. We didn’t as we were so full, but I wish I could have made room. This was a really, really good place to eat and we’ll definitely be back. Wish you’d open one in Brighton!

If you like cuttlefish then try the cuttlefish. If you don't like cuttlefish then try the cuttlefish anyway.

We've been going to Rockfish as a treat as part of our summer holidays for a few years now and it's a staple of the trip. We go for dinner and it's always great. We've always been a table of at least 6 and this is never a problem. It's a bit spenny so buckle up, but it's worth it. Staff are always on board with you having a good time and always do a great job looking after you. I'm actually a vegetarian and so just look longingly at everyone's amazing fish (gotta live by your own rules...) but the veggie options have also improved so you aren't stuck with just chips. Wines also always great, but remember to book your taxi well in advance!
