Booked before we came on holiday and started to feel a bit nervous as some reviews mentioned they weren't very welcoming to tourists, well I don't know where they were but not here for sure. Had the warmest welcome from the start, staff were lovely and food exactly what we hoped for, Sunday Roast was perfect. Tender pork, crispiest roast potatoes ever, tons of tasty gravy and cauliflower cheese that actually tasted of cheese! Loved it all and somehow found room for the dark chocolate tart with raspberry sorbet WOW!

Our first visit but wont be the last. What a fantastic building in a fantastic location. Excellent service and a wonderful Sunday lunch. Having finished lunch we walked downstairs to be greeted by live music. Unfortunately we had to leave so only a very brief sing a long was had whilst walking through the bar. Highly recommended

Great spot, lovely little village and quaint little pub. BBQ options at lunch are nice, and the place is busy on a sunny day, but prices are a challenge. £6 for a small bowl of chips is a struggle to justify !!

Sadly overpriced and overrated would be echoing some of the reviews from back in 2012. Our family have been coming to Southpool since two of them, three generations ago, lived in the village for around 50 years - we are very familiar with the Milbrook. It must be a challenge running a pub in a village with now predominantly second home ownership and a seasonal population. Clearly the current owners have attempted to run a tight but inviting menu with some great choices; most of the menu is sourced locally adding to the pubs credentials and the service is faultless. Somehow for our large group some of the choices didn't live up to their descriptions or our expectations. Looking at a menu such as the Milbrook's I guess it's fair to say that price drives expectation. Ours was not a value for money shopping test but again somehow the quality was not reflected in the top of the range prices. We had a large group so had a good cross section of the menu. The tomahawk steaks at around £110 for two people were pretty good - and so they should have been. Other dishes were less inspiring. That said arriving by boat on a summer evening at high tide and strolling into this charming creek side village has its own unique appeal and the Milbrook is the only pub in Southpool. It's often very busy too. Everything has its price and this is no exception. Will we visit again - of course we will. Would we make a special journey to visit? On a perfect day an evening high tide boat trip to Southpool is unbeatable so - yes without a doubt. A drive of more than 20 miles possibly not. Verdict: - load up your wallet, give it a go and I hope you are able to leave a favourable review.

I love going to supper at the Millbrook in winter. Its petite size makes for a warm and cosy evening, the atmosphere is calm, the staff appreciative of your custom, and the good, as always, both inventive as well as beautifully presented. Well done team Millbrook, we’ll be back again soon. We miss the value Monday night guest chef/charity evenings though, if there’s any way of bringing these back in winter time the locals would adore it, as we could all come more frequently then…and they were always great fun. So pleased we have The Millbrook nearby, we love and support your pub! Lucia & Dan Bly

It’s been a few years since we’ve been able to visit the Millbrook during our annual January week in Salcombe. Most years the pub has been closed as the staff take a well earned break after the busy Christmas and New Year period. This year we were lucky as they were still open. Years ago an old school friend of mine owned the place. In more recent times it has become more of a food destination but still retained its cosy pub atmosphere -- downstairs anyway. Our table booking was on the first floor dining area which used to be part of the flat for staff accommodation. It has been tastefully refurbished and decorated in a simple style. We chose a Sunday lunch sitting and enjoyed a pint or two of local real ale before going to our table. Between the four of us we chose the nicely rare beef, smoked pork and lamb. All pronounced excellent. Prices have risen noticeably throughout the world of hospitality in the past few years. Be prepared so see a bill around the £200 mark for four including a decent bottle of red at £55. It still represents good value for money and a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Let’s hope they’re open next time we’re down this way.

A warm welcome to a cozy dining area by the front of house. Our family was a party of four of which three of us had the festive pheasant roast which was generous and very tasty. The pheasant meal also included a glass of sparkling wine, a nice touch I thought. One of our party had the pork chop which was large and also nice tasty. The staff were friendly and attentive. Not a cheap place to eat but the quality is there and worth the money paid. The Village looked beautiful with the lights all down both sides of the road.

Outstanding as always. Our holiday to Salcombe wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the Millbrook and certainly for a Sunday Roast! The pub has a very friendly feel and we felt welcomed as soon as we walked through the door. The main dishes were excellent and I would have no hesitation in recommending the pub as a place to eat. The sides (optional extras) didn’t really do it for me, but that is a personal opinion and others may feel differently. Whilst I welcome inventive cooking, sides, when shared, have to be capable of accompanying what are often very different dishes, and this they failed to do. Overall though we enjoyed our evening and would have no hesitation in returning if we find ourselves in the area again. Lovely pub.

We arrived at the pub and realised we had booked the table for the wrong day. They still managed to give us a seat outside and allowed us to get something from the bbq (which was just winding down). I eat a lot of burgers. Trust me when I say this is the best burger I have ever eaten. No burger has made me want to write a trip advisor review more than this one. In fact I set up my account just to write this review it was so good. We will start with the pretzel bun. Prefect vessel for the burger. Didn’t fall apart or tear. The burger was perfectly cooked. Juicy in the inside. Most places nowadays overcook their burgers but this was just perfect. The sauce was just enough that it wasn’t dry but didn’t feel overwhelming or drenched. Compliments to the bbq chef and the rest of the staff for being able to provide seating and a meal when we had booked the wrong day.

Lovely! Cute quaint little pub we stumbled upon after one in a nearby town was closed. Couldn’t believe the gorgeous little stream at the back and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves drinking cider and watching everyone’s dogs jump in and out playing ball finished with me dangling my feet in to cool off on the hot august day. Cider local and delicious and they had a bbq pulled pork taco which was delicious. What a little gem of a find.

Dropped in for a couple of pints for rehydration purposes and also enjoyed excellent fresh fillet of sea bass with their crunchy new potatoes with spring onion and cheddar - flippin’ lush. Yes, lots of the Salcombe bouji set in there too - but The Millbrook do their beers and food sourcing and cheffing properly (from their own farm) so hardly surprisingly they get discerning clientele to be fair. If you’re not staying at the Inn and have to cross the stream via the stepping stones - beware that it’s tidal👍🏻😬

We have been to this pub many times for drinks and for Sunday lunch . We tried to make a booking online for this Sunday but due to "technical problems" we could not complete the booking. We telephoned and spoke to a man to try to make the booking. He was very abrupt, told us to book online and when we said we could not do this he replied that he was too busy to take the booking and put the phone down. This is such a shame as the food is amazing here and we have recommended this restaurant to many people, and up until now the customer service has been second to none. What a shame it has changed. We will think twice before booking to come here again.

First visited this pub when staying at the newly opened Gara Rock, when John Burton Race was in the kitchen. It was great, though justifiably expensive. It has now moved on to new ownership and Charlie and his team seem to have made an excellent start in what must be a Hellishly difficult year....An old friend and I planned our trip around the tide, tieing up to a handy jetty a short stroll just south of the village and the pub. A beautiful evening, a great way to arrive, and a very warm welcome to this cosy, and inviting pub. All very efficient social distancing and we felt very comfortable on our separated table in the upper bar area. Didn’t try the beer but had a really excellent Rioja very reasonably priced to go with our delicious food. We were given an imaginative little beetroot taster on an ornamental spoon, before our freshly caught Hake on a bed of something equally delicious with a side order of skinny fries. Absolutely perfect and again great value at £13. Meant we could afford a pud - and the panne cotta was great. Really good coffee, an Irish whiskey night cap and a bill for 2 of around £60. Before a starlit stroll back to our little sailing yacht, to await the morning tide and a return to the bustle and hustle of crowded Salcombe, at that moment feeling a million miles away like the stars in the clear skies above the creek. What a perfect evening, can’t wait for round 2!

I was delighted to visit the Millbrook for lunch and drinks and find that none of the magic had been lost: divine food, friendly staff, thoughtful touches and still the cosiest pub in the world. Long may it last!

Terrific little pub, the new landlord is very welcoming and efficient. Its a good idea to book, but you can sometimes hit lucky and get a table for an early evening drink. Dog friendly.

Five of us arrived on a warm lunchtime in September just as the pub was opening. We didn’t have a reservation but were welcomed by the friendly and efficient front of house team, and over the next hour and a half enjoyed excellent mussels, hake & fries; washed down with good wine and beer all at very reasonable prices for the quality. Seriously, nothing not to like here.

The Millbrook seems to have gone down the pan. What went wrong. It used to be so good. Keep well clear, there are much better places to eat and drink in the area.

Brilliant little hidden gem. Just stayed for drinks because they were fully booked (such a shame because the food smells and looks amazing!) but such a nice little setting. Friendly staff. Watch out for the high tide!! Do your research and make sure if you’re driving you can cross again.

Great place for food and drink. My girlfriend and I went here on a Wednesday night for a drink, despite it being really busy the bar staff managed to get us on a table and really looked after us all night. The food looked great and we managed to get an early reservation for the next night for food. On arrival on the following day we had the best seat and table outside in the sun, with a real good atmosphere from people walking by and being close to the bbq and chef cooking the food right there. The steak I had was amazing and could not recommend it more. Overall a great food and drinks service, nothing was too much trouble for all the staff and I would come here again tomorrow if I could.

We enjoyed a wonderful locals lunch - no high tide - so a good time for a South Pool post- lockdown get together. Fabulous mediterranean menu, thanks to Charlie Brooking the new landlord and his partner Chloe. What an achievement after such a challenging time getting the pub back in action!

The good news it’s under new management ! Price of beer and drinks where it should be. Food is fine but very limited menu and hope it will be back to 5 years ago soon. Atmosphere is back.

Total lack of customer service. Walked in to order takeaway coffee and absolutely no acknowledgment of presence. She continued preparing orders without even acknowledging me or saying ‘I’ll be a moment’ which is not taxing to do. After 5 minutes of being completely ignored I left and got my coffee elsewhere. At least acknowledge customers when they’re waiting!

Four of us for lunch, Food is different and tasty, apple crumble was a flat mess on the plate, service was prompt, certainly not warm, and welcoming, neither the wife nor the chef said hello we decided to move to another pub...

Not visited for a while and there’s a new manager in place. On arrival we were told that your booked table “was in there with your name on it”. The open fires have been replaced with what looks like dog baskets so the atmosphere seemed cold. Food was ok by the way and as the evening progressed we were being pushed to move on. At this point the restaurant was less than half full with no one waiting to sit to eat. I asked for an Irish coffee and the reply was simply “no”.Then out of the blue he exited from the kitchen grabbed our glasses which weren’t empty and said” we are closing in 5 minutes please leave” . This was at 9.55 pm with other drinkers still in the bar. Bloody ignorant and rude I think and won’t be returning
