Four of us for lunch, Food is different and tasty, apple crumble was a flat mess on the plate, service was prompt, certainly not warm, and welcoming, neither the wife nor the chef said hello we decided to move to another pub...

Went for lunch which was overpriced for what it was. Husbands chair was over a significant drain hole which his chair leg fell down and dislocated his finger. The problem is a, the hole pit is not covered. B, after staff notified nothing was done and didn’t seem to care or react in any way. Many older people with aides there and can do some serious damage hence the review.

Popped in for dinner on a rainy day while on holiday. What a fantastic pub! Interesting and quirky with a laid back atmosphere. Owners were lovely but in no way ott or in your face. The menu is simple and seasonal, changing depending on the month and availability of produce. Food was rustic, home cooked and delicious. A refreshing change from the usual, boring ping- food in most establishments. The puddings are also homemade and absolutely fantastic! Particular highlight's were the butter bean and chorizo stew, simple but very tasty. and chocolate and peanut brownie, gooey without being too sickly. Also great choice of tunes for background music.

The Colours is simply wonderful. Sharon and Ian are interesting, thoughtful, welcoming, attentive - but never obsequious - hosts. The menu is creative and delicious, caters for all tastes, and is excellent value. Whether for lone travellers, couples, families or groups, the atmosphere is always inviting and inclusive. I have been visiting The Colours for more than 25 years, and have known it in its various iterations. In its present form, and under its current management, it is without compare: it's the best pub I know in the South Hams and beyond. I've been a big fan of pubs for 50 years, and The Colours is my favourite.

The most welcoming place , very friendly and so quaint . We had booked in advance , table was ready and the staff were welcoming . We ordered the lamb chops and the Croque with fresh basil . The lamb was perfectly fine , on a bed of dressed salad , average for £15.00 The croque was basically cold , uncooked mozzarella and tomatoes on a toasted ciabatta . Perhaps we should have complained , but we loved the ambiance , and were in the area for a wedding .

Eaten here lots now, brunch, dinner, lunch and lovely generous buffet on Christmas Eve...everything I've sampled has been so delicious and tasty. The atmosphere is very welcoming, relaxed and homely. This is very early days for the new management and they have not disappointed. I might be biased but complaining about not getting a free drink when you've eaten everything on your plate sounds a bit suspicious to me 🤨 Feel very lucky to have this pub on my doorstep, huge congrats and best of luck for the rest of the year 😊 X❤️X❤️

What a disappointment! If you read the other reviews you would not think we went to the same place. We had booked in advance for Sunday lunch. Not everything was available and they only have 4 things on the menu - it arrived barely warmed through on plastic plates. Nothing appeared to have been cooked from fresh. They took it away and reheated it. If you can’t cook don’t offer food! They offered a free desert in recompense but frankly if the mains were a yardstick of their cooking ability they wouldn’t be worth the wait - we all declined. No offer of a free drink or discount was made - poor show. Never again.

An individually styled interior with scrubbed wooden tables, candles, books low lighting - comfortable and classy. The pub was nicely full with a group of runners, some musicians a group of local youngsters from uni, a few others and..some tourists! Good to see it being used by the village. You get individual attention from the owner who will often run through the menu with you, not something you get everywhere and the food is also not the usual lasagne and chips. We had an amazing South African dish of beef served in a loaf, it was generous and full of flavour. We (a party of 3) went to the Mildmay for a meal on Friday evening. The pub was quite busy but they were able to find a table. Drinks orders were taken quickly and the owner arrived to explain the menu and take our orders. For starters we had soup, salmon pate and meatballs, all served with spiced, toasted bread. Here we made our first mistake! He did not explain that the delicious starters were almost the size of a main course in themselves! For mains, my companions chose the home-made burgers which they ate with relish but were unable to finish, while I chose the South African curry served inside a hollowed-out, home-baked loaf! The curry was delicious, delicately spiced and just the right amount of heat. Sadly I was not able to finish the loaf, but I did eat all the meat. It is so nice to see a village pub, under new management, becoming so popular. We will certainly go again when we next visit Holbeton.

No pasa.

This pub used to be the heart and soul of the village. My family has frequently visited 2-3 times a year (normally in summer), and it's got completely downhill. They recently got a pizza menu, and feeling quite peckish I ordered a large only to be greated by what I'd describe as a taster portion(which wasn't very good either!). Some things are so over priced, we were charged nearly £2 for a pint of very watered orange SQUASH. You could buy a bottle of the squash with that. Such a disappointment what has happened to this once lovely pub in the hands of the newish Landlord, who puts all his efforts into the new customers or b&b customers instead of the loyal ones. Such a shame.

Total lack of customer service. Walked in to order takeaway coffee and absolutely no acknowledgment of presence. She continued preparing orders without even acknowledging me or saying ‘I’ll be a moment’ which is not taxing to do. After 5 minutes of being completely ignored I left and got my coffee elsewhere. At least acknowledge customers when they’re waiting!

Booked before we came on holiday and started to feel a bit nervous as some reviews mentioned they weren't very welcoming to tourists, well I don't know where they were but not here for sure. Had the warmest welcome from the start, staff were lovely and food exactly what we hoped for, Sunday Roast was perfect. Tender pork, crispiest roast potatoes ever, tons of tasty gravy and cauliflower cheese that actually tasted of cheese! Loved it all and somehow found room for the dark chocolate tart with raspberry sorbet WOW!
