It felt a directive came out not allowing the place to use any herbs and spices, including even salt and pepper. poor food - gravy that cost 10p from powder (no salt, no attempt to do something to that horrible taste), potato rosti were disgusting - definitely not rosti, they were bought in from outside. probably frozen, tasteless puree of something in a rectangle shape. Pork belly - the chef needs some lessons; it should be falling apart. hard chunk, thick piece of pork that was hard to cut,; clearly slow cooking was not covered in your lessons. dessert looked and tasted bought from the outside and not from a good supplier. Never again, complete waste of money. shame on you

Looking forward to Sunday lunch and booked in advance. Only choice was beef or nutroast on the Roast Dinner menu. Nice welcome and friendly staff. Good bar. Starters good and well presented. As only choice was the beef, we specifically asked if med-rare and this was assured. Unfortunately when food arrived, the beef was over cooked and obviously the end pieces. Complimentary coffee given but disappointing as we weren't dining late on a Sunday.

A wonderful family lunch elevated by the exceptional dessert from young chef Enya. From the very start as we entered the cosy bar we knew everything was going to be fine! The service was warm and friendly. The Brixham Haddock crisp and delicious and then the pudding. Or as we say - the "afters". An extroadinary chocolate bombe with cherry puree and compote. The flavour and texture combination was stunning. And the presentation immaculate! We'll be back - thank you very much!

Lovely location but very disappointed - the service was absolutely terrible some tables were having table service and I was asked to order at the bar I was totally ignored by 3 members of staff that were engaged in having a chat with each other I got a bit of a look when I interrupted and asked to place a food order. I ordered the Sunday roast and it was one of the most disappointing roasts I've ever had, it was only just warm the pork was very chewy and had no taste to it in fact the whole meal was lacking in taste and not in the least bit enjoyable. I would definitely not recommend it.

During a ride on my Bonneville Bobber with friends, stopped for lunch at Steam Packet Inn, located next to the river Dart, 5 mins from Totnes village. Staff, service & food all great. Chose Mushroom & Stilton Linguine topped with a Lemon & Parmesan crumb, wonderful treat. Family member had Basil & Tomato Penne with Garlic Bread. Friend chose Steak & Ale Pie. All enjoyed their meals. Pub doesn't sell Newcastle Brown Ale although friend chose a very good equivalent. Also would have like to try their mulled wine, though none left so will return next year. Toilets spacious & clean. Pub very pretty, as is it's location. Inside & outside seating with small car park available. Recommend.

What can I say. POOR all round. Booked a table for 5 girlfriends, from the moment we set foot in the establishment we weremet by a very 1. rude waitress!! Pointing out our table was needed at 6pm and we should of known that!! Even though we were intending on and left way in advance. 2. Food has gone down hill, choices of.mest for Xmas dinner poor only 2 or nutrient, potatoes were certainly not roas but more like boiled, cauliflower cheese luke warm, vegetables put on the plates instead of brought out separately!! We all know nowadays what we want and require and almost demand from our hard earnt money. Another establishment that thinks that poor quality, lack of professionalism, charging over priced food will still keep the punters coming in the door!! Pubs are a dying trade, serve up food of this poor quality and with staff these poor manners then The Steam Packet won't be far behind. All very well and good looking after the summer trade, but if you don't look after your locals and winter trade then...... Won't be back in a hurry unless someone convinces me otherwise in the future!

What a gem of a find. Stayed in Rm 5. Such a big room. double ended bath in there with a separate large shower room and toilet. Large comfortable bed with nice sized TV if you want it. But it's the little things that make it. The tea making facilities with hot chocolate better than average coffees and fresh milk to go with it. The umbrella holder for wet brollies. The box of tissues, The little ornaments. All of these things make the room and the stay that much better. Downstairs there's a good selection of drinks in the lovely old fashioned but modern at the same time bar and restaurant, with an open fire. Can't really comment on food as we only had a bowl of chips and breakfast, but the bowl of chips was huge. Not some modern little basket. However, the breakfast was massive and superb. The owners have gone to great lengths to make this what it is and when we move, not far from Totnes next year, this will become our local for a drink.

This friendly pub is worth five stars for the view alone out over the picturesque river ! The food was excellent too, all properly home made, delicious and great quality. We shared a ginormous portion of very moorish nachos to start, which was luxuriously smothered in toppings. I had the Pork Tsatsiki for mains, while my other half went for (the excellent quality) homemade burger. I must say it was lovely to come across a menu with some flair and imagination ! The staff were lovely and friendly, and very efficient. There was a great sound track playing too ! All in all a five star experience. Tip: there is a small car park, and we were luckily enough to find a space. Having now been we know it will be well worth the short walk if you cannot fit your car in !

The Steam Packet Inn in Totnes, UK, is a pub and accommodation in a prime location on the banks of the River Dart, combining traditional charm with a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. With a history dating back centuries, the place has an authentic feel that is reflected in both its architecture and service. The restaurant's menu offers a variety of typical British dishes, with a focus on local and fresh produce. Favorites include fish and chips, and fresh seafood, which is especially recommended. The food is homemade and the portions are generous, all at a reasonable price. The pub also has a wide selection of local beers and wines, ideal to accompany your meal or simply enjoy a drink on its terrace overlooking the river. Accommodation at the Steam Packet Inn is equally welcoming, with well-appointed, clean and comfortable rooms. Most offer views of the river, which adds a special touch to the stay. The staff is very friendly and always happy to make recommendations on local activities or places to visit. In short, the Steam Packet Inn is an excellent choice for both a meal and a weekend getaway, offering a perfect combination of hospitality, good food and picturesque surroundings.

All and all pretty good all round. Staff very friendly and helpful. Quick service at the bar and good selection of drinks. Outside on the quay ample seating for everyone, especially nice when the sun shines. Restaurant is pleasant, soft music in background. Cruise leaves for Dartmouth directly opposite on other side of river, but you have to walk about 10 minutes over road bridge to get there. £18 per single. You can catch a bus there from just past the Seven stars for £2 per single. Likewise to Paignton. 92 bus for Dartmouth and Stagecoach Gold for Paignton. Look out for Bob's Hop on bus, bright yellow, just wave him down. Ideal round town, 50p or make a donation. WARNING. If you are dining outside be "very aware" that the Gulls ***wlill*** swoop and steal your food. The inn will give you a water pistol if you ask for one, but they have limited success. Best eat indoors or come prepared. We stayed in room 5. Nice room. Minor grouse, shower was a bit timid.. Highly recommended. Bit pricey but you get what you pay for.

A few months ago, I wrote a very negative review of the service element of this dining pub - in fact, I didn't eat there in the end, as I felt most unwelcome (when wanting breakfast during a house-hunting trip). I've now moved into the neighbourhood and, fair's fair, I now have cause to write a review at the other end of the scale! Last evening, I stopped by (with some wariness) for an impromptu dinner - and couldn't have had a better experience. Friendly and incredibly helpful, patient bar/serving staff went out of their way to adjust a menu to my specific needs; great food (I had the drippingly-delicious prawn linguine with a specially-created medley if green veg), and the view was as great as ever. Thank you so much for a super meal - I will return and recommend!

Can’t fault the location and it’s not the inn’s fault it was raining. Food was a bit underwhelming although the fish and chips was good. It did feel that we were an inconvenience and it’s really unclear that the restaurant and bar are not separate and there was confusion about entering the restaurant as didn’t think we should walk right in and were told off for being in the way. Lovely place but the food needs more work. Serving on fancy slate doesn’t make things taste better. Such a shame as all the reviews made it seem worth the visit. Would hazard a guess that a lovely sunny day makes a difference and you forget the food.

Previously had a lovely lunch at the Steam Packet Inn, Totnes so, after travelling a few hundred miles from Suffolk, thought I'd have breakfast here. Entered bar area at 9am - no other guests/customers around. Checked they were still doing breakfast (the board outside said they were) and whether I could have it outside at the tables on the terrace (view of R Dart). Fairly miserable-looking woman said I could have it in the bar area (cosyish but dark and no view) as otherwise places were reserved for their residents, who 'took precedence'. I hadn't seen anyone anywhere inside or outside on my way in, so I checked what she'd said was correct in this case, so she went off to 'ask the Manager'. After returning, she took me through to the large indoor restaurant area, overlooking the river, where there was literally no-one else! I thanked her and said it was a shame not to sit here if it was empty, but I really wanted to sit at the outside tables (also having zero customers) - was this possible. She repeated that this inside area is 'for residents in preference' but that I could take my menu etc outside if I ordered and collected my food from inside the bar - there would be no waiting service outside, which is only the other side of the restaurant glass wall. Whilst I can understand all this in high season or at other times when there are myriads of people around, I don't get it under today's conditions. Common sense and a desire to welcome and serve have gone awol. I've been sitting on Vire Island with my take-away breakfast (bought from some lovely local cafes - well done Curator coffee and Food for Thought), facing the Steam Packet, and there is still a dearth of customers. Their 'computer says no' attitude and lack of welcome and service will unfortunately make it unlikely I will revisit or recommend it when I move house to just up the road fairly soon. The dearth of customers, at least this potential local/regular one, is on the cards to continue.

It rather brought the meal down to a corner cafe style lunch. It would have been far more interesting to have added more interesting double vegetables especially as the cost was £14!

The location is stunning, and on a hot day there is nothing better than having a drink looking over the river. I thought the food was really nice, the pot of crab, the mackeral pate and the hake were lovely. There was a nice selection of ales too. Staff were very accommodating and friendly, especially in the less busier times when they could relax a bit. A minor quibble: We ate lunch in the empty restaurant whilst everyone else were enjoying the sunshine. Another couple was brought through into the restaurant and were seated on the very next table. My partner and I both internally questioned whether this was necessary considering the place was still practically empty. Surely both parties would prefer a bit more space between them but as we're all British we stiffened up our upper lips and bravely soldiered on. I guess it was nice to hear about their travels to the Peak District - as I've always wanted to go.

We stayed here for two nights en route home back to London from visiting friends. We had a very pleasant stay in the steam packet inn. Our room was very comfortable and clean. We had a lovely dinner in the restaurant and excellent breakfast - very good vegan options in the menu. The staff were all exceptionally friendly and helpful. Ian was very personable and recommended a great running / walking route. Thank you. Aerona & Dan.

First sight - nice looking pub along river - only for drinks, a few table empty (in sun) but we were given the sofa in shade, was this because we weren't eating? Wasn't really given a choice of ciders - just asked sweet/dry..then couldn't insert card only swipe, in end had to pay cash...first impression - definitely not returning.

We ordered our drinks and were going to order lunch too when our drinks arrived. After waiting 20mins, a lady serving checked and chased up our drink orders and said we could order our lunch when the drinks came. Another 15/20 minutes lapsed and still no drinks arrived (MEANWHILE, Several other people had arrived, and were well into their main courses). I'm generously giving two stars for the location and for the appearance of the food, but the lack of service really dampened our day. In a nice way, I let the man running the restaurant (who was also the one who took our drinks order) know that we were leaving and for what reason, and I will say he was very apologetic and admitted the service was just not good enough.

This is the second time I have been here in the past 6 months and there's a reason for it, service is great food is great atmosphere is great. It's only major flaw this time for me was getting a Pint of Guinness in a Timmy Taylor's glass. Was still a good pint but yeah 😅

We are very passionate about good quality food and go out of our way to support independent local businesses. My partner is a vegetarian and was delighted at the choice for her. She opted for the nut roast with vegetables which she scored 10/10 . I went for old school fish & chips which was also excellent. The food was 100% fresh and very tasty. The following morning we saw the local fresh fish supplier delivering to The Floating Bridge which was very encouraging . Finally the staff were very helpful and kept a very clean & tidy pub.

Didn't need to book (got lucky as it was quite busy inside). Went for the Agatha Christie pizza w/ Goat's Cheese & Chutney. £18 is quite spenny for a pizza but it was a good one. Nice dough with good crisp and the toppings complimented each other. Friendly staff and good table service. Thanks for the pizza guys!

Total lack of customer service. Walked in to order takeaway coffee and absolutely no acknowledgment of presence. She continued preparing orders without even acknowledging me or saying ‘I’ll be a moment’ which is not taxing to do. After 5 minutes of being completely ignored I left and got my coffee elsewhere. At least acknowledge customers when they’re waiting!
