I agree with alot of the negative reviews. I have gone to the cafe for about 20 years and it has so gone downhill. Staff generally are not customer focussed and friendly and take customers for granted. They are inattentive and slow. They are not doing us a favour attending, we are the customers. There are plenty of other places where people ear and you are loosing custom.

We sat on the balcony area with a sea view, with our dog which was nice apart from being by the kitchen window where we could hear staff talking about us and swearing which spoiled the experience. Food was lovely but very expensive for what we had. Wouldn't go back.

We found this hidden gem while we were looking for a bite to eat at lunch time whilst we were staying at Salcombe for my husbands 60th birthday. Even a simple lunch was cooked to such high quality, we straight away booked our evening meal there. We were served by the lovely Mariana, who is so warm and friendly. We both ordered ribs, which was on the specials menu, which I highly recommend, everything was cooked to perfection, so much so that we booked again for the next evening on my husbands birthday. Mariana and her team of girls were amazing and really made his birthday so special, it was the highlight of our holiday and we were staying in a popular four star hotel, but we prefered to eat at the Wardroom, as the service and food were superior to the Hotel and the price was very reasonable. Thank you Mariana for making us feel so welcome. Whenever we come back to Salcombe we will definitely be eating at The Wardroom. Many thanks Maureen & Pete Foxley xx

This is our favourite place for lunch. Lovely views onto the water and you can watch the boating world go by! Nice rose wine for the summer, nachos with chilli were very good and tomato mozzarella salad and chicken Caesar salad are my usual go-tos. The daily specials are good too. Marianna is fantastic and the chef is friendly too, came and said hello to our dog who we’d brought with us in his travel crate post surgery! Highly recommended hidden gem in Salcombe.

Beautiful setting but service was horrendous. Only 1 other couple in there, service was slow, our starter of nachos was some tortilla chips with half melted cheese and dishes of the sauces on the side. We each ordered the cod and chips, and the fish was cold in the middle. we werent given any checks during the meal, when I told the waitress of the issues, she said sorry, and carried on with her evening. We ended up going into the restaurant to pay our bill (in full) before leaving. Horrendous, wouldn't go back or recommend.

Food was amazing. Also great atmosphere. However, the service and rudeness wasn’t for us. We leave a tip wherever we go, whether the food is bad or not it’s all dependent on service and for us we was left talking about this with others, we was highly disappointed. We decided to stop for a mid afternoon coffee and sweet treat and thought at first we had struck gold. The location is stunning overlooking the harbour but the service was the complete opposite. Firstly I walked in looking for the toilet, the staff ignored me and just watched as I looked lost. Secondly, when our drinks arrived there was so smile, no offering of sugar, literally threw down the plates and drinks and walked off. Seriously there is no need to be so rude.

Whilst mooching around the shops in Salcombe mid-morning, we stumbled across this gem at the rear of Crew Clothing and decided to try it for breakfast. We were being treated to one of the best mornings weather-wise in some time, so we took advantage of this by sitting out on the decking / balcony overlooking the pontoons and the estuary ....what a perfect setting with beautiful ever changing views. The breakfast was first class and excellent quality ...Orange juice and Mocha coffees followed by a doorstep bacon and egg sandwich for my other half, whilst I indulged in the scrambled eggs made with double cream and toast. A perfect way to start the day ...highly recommend! Great place with fab and friendly service.

Restaurants around the coastal areas of the south hams are all a little pricey, you expect that as they all have higher wages to pay to keep staff once they manage to find them. So for me I judge them on service quality of feed and drink, the surroundings and general feel of the place. The wardroom for me exceeds all my expectations in all areas. The breakfasts are outstanding. So fresh and tasty, the coffee for me anyway is the best in Devon and the views are simply breathtaking. But the best bit…. Is the service. So welcoming, warm, polite, and friendly. It’s our number one go to place whenever we are in Salcome. Keep up the great work guys……

The food and coffee was decent, but the service was very slow for an order as small as ours. The waitress kept telling us to "slow down" whilst taking our order, as she seemed incapable of writing down or remembering just five items. It was only us and another couple in the whole place. They were hardly rushed off their feet. At one point I thought our parking was going to run out as they were so slow with our simple order. The price was extortionately high for what it was. You are paying for the views and not a lot else really. Avoid.

Small portion (only 1 bacon rasher), poorly cooked (hard poached eggs) and expensive (£15 each for the above + half an avocado + 1 slice of sourdough). The only redeeming feature was the coffee! Visited yesterday (23/8) for lunch. Lovely view and restaurant is in a great location but that’s where it stops really. When we arrived we were told 20 minutes before lunch service started this was fine with us we were happy to wait and have a drink and enjoy the view. It was table service so we sat and waiters for our drinks order to be taken there was only 2 servers on which was poor considering it was august and lunch time ! When our order for drinks was finally taken we asked about ordering food and we’re told another 15 minutes on top of the original 20 not great with a hungry 5 yr old. This probably should have been our signal to leave but we stayed and eventually ordered food. I asked if I could have a child’s ham sandwich just plain white bread with ham which they said yes. Myself and partner ordered sandwiches also. They arrived nothing fancy in my eyes a sandwich I could get in any cafe or restaurant. And it didn’t help that the waitress serving was more bothered by a wasp than getting us what we needed. She was running around trying to find the fly electric zapper instead. Then we got our bill. Now I know everything is going to be slightly more expensive but I did not expect to be paying £60 for 3 sandwiches 2 soft drinks a coffee and a side of fries I nearly fell of my chair. I was charged £12 just for a child’s ham sandwich! I was absolutely disgusted with the price for what we received. I definitely wouldn’t go back and I would recommend u less you have money to throw away as the food is not worth it at all!!

She made a table up for us when we asked if we could sit outside, cleaned it immediately and brought our wine quickly after asking me if I wanted a “holiday size” glass with a wink which made me laugh. Amazing evening meal (23/06/22), service attentive, food very good and views to die for. Normally have had coffee during day time there or lunch. Recommend the Steak or Crab Linguine. Pecan Treacle Tart amazing. Chatted to Joe the chef afterwards, clearly enjoys what he does,...

Appalling customer service and though the product was run of the mill their grossly inflated prices were anything but. So the old woman serving struggled with her English but insisted on being front of house. We ordered 4 regular size coffees which came to £18 and then, even though they were not busy, we endured a 28 minute wait. The waitress put the cups down saying what the drinks were and we got a cappuccino and not a Mocha. Then she came back and said no it is a mocha not a cappuccino. It did not taste like a mocha. The drinks were tepid at best and then after we finished it was another wait for the bill. Overpriced offerings because 20% of seats are quayside, run of the mill drinks and dire customer service. I would give it a wide berth.

Avoid. We ordered 4 coffees that came to £18, we waited 28 minutes when they were not busy at all and 50% of tables empty and then when they arrived they were barely tepid and the unsmiling unhelpful waitress had no idea what she was...

Amazing food, a hidden gem around the corner from larger places. We stopped here for lunch through the week which was lovely and then dinner on our last evening here. She had fish and chips, the fish was huge and very tasty. I had surf...

Fabulous spot of lunch or a coffee. Unfortunately, a hellish long wait for lunch today (which the staff warned us about), so just coffee today.

A cup of tea and a wonderful piece if cake! Love popping in here for a coffee or cup of tea especially if I can get the table with the view out over the estuary. Wouldn't try and get a table in high season though!

Absolutely fantastic coffee and brunch. Tried their crab benedict - top notch. Generous amount of high quality Salcombe crab and fresh bread which they bake daily apparently. Coffee is on another level. The owner is very enthusiastic about his coffee grinding it in the latest Mahlkoning E80GB. By far the most pleasant brunch in Devon area, keep it up fellas!

We popped in for lunch as a treat remembering the cafe from years ago. Sadly it was not enjoyable as the food took absolutely ages and did not match the description on the menu as well as being very over priced. Fish and chips was...

Very nice well managed hotel with a very welcoming bar/restaurant. Limited range of draught ciders but compensated for with bottled ciders. Lagers and Ale choice is good. Staff are very friendly and efficient, décor is very pleasing to the eye. Well worth a visit. Did not stay in Hotel, hence no comment on the rooms.

Went for lunch which was overpriced for what it was. Husbands chair was over a significant drain hole which his chair leg fell down and dislocated his finger. The problem is a, the hole pit is not covered. B, after staff notified nothing was done and didn’t seem to care or react in any way. Many older people with aides there and can do some serious damage hence the review.

We visited on a Friday evening as a group of five, and the manager was great, really friendly, making you feel relaxed and welcomed. Most of us chose burgers or veggie burgers, while one had a gammon steak. For dessert, we had banoffee pie, morello cherry tart, white chocolate rocky road, and lemon meringue pie. Everything was delicious. Highly recommended!
