The best restaurants serving British food in Merthyr Tydfil South Wales

We was looking for a nice place to eat on a Monday afternoon, on my search I found this little cosy pub restaurant. We didn't book but we was able to have a table. The waitress allowed us to sit where we liked, which was a nice touch. The menu was perfect. Choose a starter to share. Our main courses was truly amazing, definitely worth the wait. Service was pleasant and relaxing. Highly recommend this amazing venue if in the area. Thank you Clare & Joanne for a lovely Monday Afternoon Lunch. 10/10

Lovely homely pub, perfect atmosphere with a warm fire and to top it off the food was excellent. Would definately recommend as we are not from the area, but will certainly come back. Ps. the chips are amazing!

Breakfast was a bit small Atmosphere was ruined by staff who were complaining about a man walking past with dogs Was out of place As the man was doing nothing wrong And could not defend himself Totally unprofessional from the staff would not recommend

Visited tonight with friends lovely food and didn’t take too long apart from one meal which had to be cancelled as everyone had eaten. As I was walking to purchase more drinks I heard from the counter kitchen staff/ chef shouting at other member of staff which can only be described as vile and highly unprofessional. I Also note that I was not the only customer that heard this as it was the talk of the restaurant. It really ruined my experience of the place and will not be returning. I understand kitchen work can be stressful but if you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen.

The loveliest friendly pub. Such a good find. We went for a meal after completing pen-y-fan, not sure I've ever had such a warm welcome on arriving at a venue, staff were super friendly. The food was excellent, large portions and reasonably priced. Would 100% go back if we were in the area again.

No longer serve food but the welcome from the bar staff is always warm. Use this as my local and wouldn't go anywhere else.

When I boomed our Christmas lunch in November and asked about a social Christmas menu, the lady I spoke to advised that there was no specific Christmas menu but that we could choose anything from the lunch or evening menu. She told me to look at the menus at the end of November and any issues give them a call. My friends and I were happy with this as two are vegetarian and the others agreed a mixture of both menus would be perfect. On the day we were given a lunch menu which was completely different. I asked for the evening menu only to be told that we could only have what was on the lunch menu. I explained what I was told over the phone. The waitress said that isn’t right you should not have been told that. We all chose from the menu. Two of us had the vegetarian starter of truffle mushrooms. They arrived looking beautiful and tasted as good as they looked. Our main courses arrived and there was a huge disparity in portion sizes and presentation. The vegetarian roasted root tart was tiny, more of a starter size but tasted lovely. The steak pie was apparently lovely but it was served with a massive portion of peas so many they were wasted. The curry portion seemed just right and again my friend said it was lovely. Over half an hour after we finished we had to ask if we could have the dessert menu. It was brought and then no one returned to take our order so again we had to ask. The biscoff cheesecake was my friends reported far too sweet and the plum pudding was supposed to be served with rum and raisin ice cream. When we asked we were told it must have run out. On the whole the surrounds were nicely decorated, the food varied from delicious to ok but the service and disparity in portion sizes and presentation let it down. I write this as constructive criticism as we definitely would consider returning.

Booked a takeaway as we got married and literally wanted a chilled out xmas day. I have been having food here fro 20 plus years and although it's not the same i thought we would have xmas takeaway easier all around. Collected xmas eve small queue took home stored correctly delivered one to my mother. Christmas morning i tried to dish up and was met by the worst dinner possible. The smell of vinegar hit you as you opened the tray. All our dinners ruined rang boxing day to be told only one of 400 plus who had complained and my fault for not storing correctly. Manager available at 12:30. Drove over 2pm no manger and not replying to her staff. Extremely poor overall as one our xmas dinner was ruined and we had no food shop due to wedding and illness. What happens to family's who may have no been able to replace / afford this waste. Eventually had a refund again not manager decision. I will never return again. Disgusting and maybe more careful off how veg is stored / cooler held as it was defo the veg that fermented the whole tray bad management with no suppprt for frontline staff who had to deal with this today

Thanks for the unforgettable pub experience that will never be beaten. Amazing food and the staff were extremely lovely and welcoming. Big thanks to Andrew, Anwen, Lilly and Neve, well definitely be worth another 3hour trip just to come see you guys ❤️

My wife and I came across this village pub whilst coming back from penyfan , we popped in for Sunday dinner and we were asked if we booked , to our delight the bar manageress managed to fit us in the large conservatory area . Within 2 minutes a young girl came over and took our order and within 10 mins had the best Sunday dinner to date , it was mouthwatering, the beef was so tender . When we were about to pay for our food we noticed it was cash only ( our fault for not looking because there was signs everywhere) and again the staff couldn't do enough for us they even gave us a lift to the nearest cashpoint. The manager was very knowledgeable about the area telling us about other walks in the area . We will be going back has its our new favourite pub . 10 out 10 from start to finish.

Food was awful, hard chips and cold hard pie, expensive for size of meal, child’s portion. Very disappointing, wouldn’t go here again

Absolutely brilliant from start to finish! I originally started off speaking to a lovely lady called Peggy and then also her partner and other family members looking to book our works Christmas party and from the very beginning it was done with ease, they gave us everything we wanted. The room was decorated so pretty, the singer was so good, the staff were all lovely and so accommodating and the buffet was delicious! Thank you so much to everyone at the guest keen for making our night so lovely 🎄❄️

Woman that works there spends more time outside smoking than in the shop working , enough to put you off your grub before you enter the shop

Leonie is the best server ive ever had in any harvester she was well mannered and couldnt do more for us will definitely come again

The staff are brilliant here , so friendly,often quite funny , mostly just lovely .Great choice of real ales , if that's your thing . It's mine ,food comes out quickly too. Love the place .
