Guest Keen in Merthyr Tydfil

went to a wedding the buffet food run out half the guests didnt get to eat ..when mentioned to staff they did not seem to care ...and the disco was really bad the dj did not have a clue think they was just staff playing music avoid at all cost look elsewhere

Booked the guest keen for my dads funeral as he recently lost his battle with cancer. At first Peggy was really nice and being really helpful with what our family was going through, things quickly changed when she started being nasty and vile with her words. I rang her one day just to go over things as I had a lot of anxiety and she started shouting down the phone giving me loads of abuse. I put the phone down crying and her husband rang my grieving mum threatening her and saying her dead husband was a tramp and deserved cancer. I really can’t believe any of this has happened and has really broke my heart. My dad was a good man and I thought going to the guest keen would be giving him a good send off. I rang Peggy early this week to ask for the money back to which she screamed no and put the phone down

Peggy and her team done an absolutely Fabulous job at creating the most perfect wedding venue for me and my Husband. We got married on Saturday March 25th 2023 and it was the best day of our lives and when I saw the way Peggy and the team had set up the ceremony and reception room, it filled me with such happy tears! They exceeded our expectations and the food at the wedding reception was outstanding! Thank you all so much from the bottom of our hearts. Love Mr and Mrs Turner xxx

We booked this venue for our wedding and reception and it was absolutely perfect. From the ceremony room to reception room it was absolutely beautiful. The day food was delicious and Peggy was accommodating to what we requested as it wasn't on their wedding menu. The evening hot and cold buffet went down a treat with all guests. The ladies who dressed all rooms made it absolutely beautiful and we couldn't have imagined it to look any better. The bar staff were great, and the cocktails were incredible (especially the Pina colada) Peggy is so down to earth and very approachable and nothing is too much for her, she was a fantastic help before and during the wedding and it just wouldn't have been the same without her. She once told us that her brides and and grooms often invite her to their wedding day and we can totally see why. Our family and friends have spoken so highly of them both (Peggy and Alwyn) and we can't wait to return for our Sunday lunch to catch up with them again. I would definitely recommend the guest keen for a wedding venue and If you do, please invite us along, it was magical and we are still on such a high from it. Went for Sunday lunch with my husband and child, food was freezing, they were warming The meat in the microwave and then putting it in the gravy supposedly to stay warm…. Didn’t happen. Would not return

Peggy was amazing so was her family a very relaxed meeting to discuss wedding would recommend the guest keen to anyone fab value cant wait until next year for our wedding there keep the amazing hospitality peggy you are amazing love dana x

Was a bit nervous in booking after reading some comments below, however we can’t thank the guest keen enough and felt the need to leave a review. Peggy did everything and more, she was so creative with the little extras that we had. Big thank you for making our baby shower so beautiful, and the afternoon tea was just Perfect! Highly recommend. Staff were also very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. Thank you.

Me and my wife booked our wedding last year with the staff at the Guest Keen Club. Even with restrictions in place, the care, attention to detail and planning of our special day was out of this world! We would highly recommend anyone to plan their special day or event with the Guest, as the staff are always polite, professional and ensure your day goes to plan. They also do a mean take away Sunday lunch! A big Thank You from us again, definitely 5 stars from us.

Myself and my fiancee booked to have our wedding at the guest, we paid a deposit last year and have recently been put back into lockdown. I rang the landlady Peggy and asked about if our wedding will happen she spoke extremely rude to me on the phone being blunt saying how do I know how much longer this is going to last. She also swore at me so I asked for a full refund because I would like to re-book somewhere else because of how rude she was being over a simple question. After about a week we didn’t receive the refund so I rang her again to which she started screaming down the phone at me and swearing she also threatened to get her husband to batter my fiancée and calling us poor while making fun of the fact that she’s a millionaire in these tough times that we all all going through. We have saved up for a very long time to pay for this wedding a lot of people in Merthyr have told me how amazing the wedding are up the guest keen we got so excited then all this lockdown happened. I don’t know how someone who can be a “millionaire” can refuse to give refunds to hard working people. Would not advise anyone to go here or book the way I have been spoken to is disgusting and I will be getting in contact with trading standards let’s hope she doesn’t do this to anyone else.

We booked a baby shower at this venue and due to local lockdown rules were unable to go ahead with the function. The venue have refused to refund us the deposit. We have contacted trading standards which have agreed that they have to refund the deposit due to the current circumstances. They are now refusing to answer calls and emails. Awful customer service. We are already facing stressful times and the last thing a mother to be needs is more stress.

I booked a baby shower at the guest keen Merthyr for 30 plus guests and paid a deposit. At the time of booking I was told if restrictions changed due to COVID-19 I would be able to have a refund. The rule of 6 then came into place. I phoned Peggy at the guest keen, who told me it was fine as we was family( I did feel uncomfortable with this as I knew it was breaking regulations). A few days later RCT went into local lockdown. Once again I phoned and Peggy said it could change and Merthyr wasn’t. I made her aware that gatherings of 30 was breaking the law. Plus we wasn’t aloud to leave RCT. She told me it was unlucky that I would then lose the deposit. Later Merthyr it’s self went into lockdown and once again Peggy has still refused to refund the deposit. The baby shower was cancelled well in advance so no money on business side had been lost and by law they wasn’t aloud to take bookings. I was already upset the baby shower could not go ahead but even more upset that I am now out of pocket for something completely out of my control. I am angry that the guest keen are not following the rules and restrictions so have gone on to report them to trading standards. Please be careful when booking!

My daughter booked her baby shower at this venue for 27th September, at the time of booking a deposit was paid and a verbal agreement made that if local lockdowns where unforced the deposit would be returned. Both rct and Merthyr went into lockdown and the baby shower could not go ahead and still cannot my daughter had 13days left to give birth and the owner peggy refuses to give back deposit even though trading standards have been contacted and the law states she had too under the law frustration of contract due to covid. This has caused stress and upset Tommy heavily pregnant daughter who was disappointed she could not have her baby shower and now fighting this!

We live in RCT and it went into lockdown well before the 27th September then Merthyr went into lockdown the week after and she refuses to refund even though trading standards have been contacted and by law a refund should of been returned if your area goes into lockdown due to covid and restricting you from leaving but she refuses to do so. bad customer service! Wouldn’t recommended! Taking advantage of people and pocketing money of others misfortune, especially durning this time where a lot of people are in financial difficulty, you would think they would refund with no issue.

I have to say that Peggy and her family made our wedding day from start to finish from the ceremony to the last dance the best experience of our life's they where help full through out the year every time we went to see them they made us laugh and felt very comfortable and welcoming every time you walked through the doors, the food was out standing from the starters to the deserts and even the buffet was amazing can't thank them enough for everything they did. One awesome team to have behind you on your wedding I would highly recommend them to any one who would love a glamorous day.

Absolutely amazing can't recommend the guest keen enough right from the start Peggy and Nathan helped me with everything nothing was to big they were amazing from greeting us as we came in to my mam needs extra help and a certain diet and they made sure everything was done perfectly for her and her food looked exactly like every plate so as not to stand out and made my day i cried when I saw the reception room it was out of this world stunning the food was gorgeous everyone commented on how amazing it was and every staff member was so welcoming and just amazing thanks to peggy and Nathan and staff we had the most amazing day stress free and memories to last forever.

Went here fo a baby shower on 3rd march .was blown away by how beautiful the room was decorated,how amazing the afternoon tea was and how helpfull peggy and her team of staff were.if you planning an event here do not hesitate,your in very good hands .ive heard the sunday lunch is also amazing here so will return in the near future .

Absolutely amazing venue Staff were very good and our food was lovely .We couldn't have picked a better place to have our baby shower.

We visited here twice fairly recently - to a craft fair and to a performance group's talent show. On both occasions the organisation was impeccable.During the craft fair, the whole building had a magically Christmassy feel to it and there was a really good range of items on sale. More recently, we were at a talent show. The room was beautifully set out and would be ideal for a wedding or other celebration and just because it was children performing, they didn't cut corners.We have never eaten here but one of our group that night had eaten more than one Sunday Lunch on the premises and couldn't speak too highly of the experience.

Fab wedding, excellent food, lovely staff and the room was dressed very elegantly. Would certainly recommend the venue for a wedding.

Where do I start?From the moment we looked at wedding venues and walked through the doors of the Guest Keen club, we knew it was the right venue for us. Peggy and Nathan took all the stress out of the planning and were wonderful from start to finish. The venue was beautiful. Got married here yesterday (18,8,18)From the minute we arrived at the door the staff were their waiting to greet us! The staff were absaloutly amazing and helpful. Especially want to say thankyou to nathen for making sure we were looked after and had everything we needed! The room was stunning I couldn't of done it better myself. The whole day/night was amazing. The food was so so nice, and the buffet was brilliant and loads to go around even loads left at the end of the night. I highly recommend a wedding at the guest keen it was perfect!! Xxx

We had our wedding here in early September 2017 and from start to finish the experience was brilliant. Peggy and Nathan and the team couldn't do enough for us, were conscientious about making our big day special, and agreed to all our ideas (even the slightly odd ones!). They ordered in chair bows and table runners in the colour scheme I wanted especially, and they even have a wide range of centrepieces and other decorations, which they put out for you themselves. There is a lovely ceremony room downstairs, then upstairs the main hall is perfect for a wedding reception. We had 70 guests but I reckon you could easily get 100 people or more in. We were really pleased with how all the rooms looked and there were nice little touches like a sweet cart, lovely postbox and tealights in the centrepieces which they lit in the evening. The food was lovely and generously portioned. They hired a great DJ for us and they have their own disco lighting, which saved us the hassle of organising this. I have been to weddings at very expensive venues where the staff don't want to do anything not in your "package" and where you get the feeling they do the same wedding every week and have zero flexibility. That is not at all the experience we had with the Guest Keen. We were all made to feel very welcome, and the staff genuinely seemed to care that we had a good time. We can't thank them enough. If your searching for a venue for a wedding reception or any type of social function , do yourself a favour and seriously consider the Guest Keen ,We have just had a brilliant wedding blessing and party there . Nathan ,Peggy Alwyn and all the team are friendly and very professional at providing all you need for an enjoyable,memorable time.The function room was tastefully decorated,the hot and cold buffet was delicious- nothing was too much trouble Thank you so much fromMark,Sian,Rachel,Gareth and all the family.

Myself and my husband searched high and low for a venue we both loved. We stumbled upon the guest keen and thought we would go to visit. As soon as we walked in we knew this was the only place for us and this was confirmed after looking around this beautiful building and meeting the amazing friendly staff that were only too happy to help.

Attended a wedding here in June.. absolutely fantastic staff couldn't do enough for you the room was absolutely stunning.. the DJ had so much time for the kids the kids absolutely fell in love .. the bouncers on the door kept an eye so no kids left the room without an adult present very safe for kids, overall fantastic experience. Would recommend highly, also attended Sunday lunch just after the wedding, same welcome even though they were busy at times still had time for a chat with people coming and going.

We attended a wedding at the guest keen last weekend. The room was beautifully decorated and the staff were fantastic. It was a big wedding and they had ensured there were enough staff to cover the food and bars so no-one had to wait long.

What a great place! Great staff! They have exceeded our expectations and believe me, they were very high expectations in the first place!! The room looked absolutely fantastic! Food was delicious! Staff really helpful! Nathan, Peggy and Andrea, thank you for making our day so special!!

Absolutely fantastic. We had our wedding their on the 5th of August and it was fantastic. The food was amazing, the decorations were outstanding, it took our breath away, the staff were amazing and it helped make our big day all the more special. Thank you very much peggy :-D

I came here today for a meal with my family. My partner and I did not like the carvery we had, so we asked what we could do. They said they could take our plates and give us a refund, which we accepted. The "cook"...

We were very welcomed from start to finish, the staff went on and beyond their role to look after us. Peggy is such a lovely friendly lady, very approachable and has the running of the place down to a 'T'!

I have visited the guest keen on lots of occasions. I have been to weddings, birthday parties, christening, pre hen weekend breakfast, breakfast with santa and a funeral wake here. Everytime I have visited Peggy the owner have always given a warm welcome, her and her staff are so polite and can't do enough for their customers. The place is always decorated beautifully and the drinks are reasonably priced. Must add the food is gorgeous too. I would highly recommend the Guest Keen for any occasion you want celebrated :)

Amazing so magical having breakfast with santa today with my 1 year old. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel more than welcome by all the staff so good with the children. Will definitely be attending next year

Omg where do I start...I visited the guest keen today for dinner with santa..from the moment we walked in we made to feel like this was gona b good ! I took a small group of adults with physical and learning disabilities,and they were made to feel so welcome...we started by filing in our Xmas list to send to santa,which went into a magic post box that made the letters dissappear b4 our eyes...we then made dime reindeer food which we were able to bag and take home..then we were taken into a cinema to watch Xmas film while out food was prepared...nxt was lunch b4eeting the big man himself....the group itself has to be seen to be believed..the gtoto was magical,santa was the real guy himself (no joking beard)..the whole place was absolutely stunningly decorated....I am going to return tomorrow with my children....I would 100% recommend a trip there to any one that loves Christmas as much as we did tday....thank u to the staff also for going the xtra mile with our group xxxx

Today my family attended the Breakfast with Santa event. From start to Finnish this event brought the true magic of Christmas. The Full English Breakfast was fantastic and staff couldn't do enough for you. The Christmas activity's were brilliant and there was lots to do before going to see the most amazing Santa ever. The decorations and effort put into this event by the Guest Keen was second to none. We as a family have done numerous Christmas activities over the years but this has knocked spots on them all. Big well done to everyone involved your hard work and effort shined today. The most magical place we have visited.

Wow what a beautiful venue, had the pleasure of working in here for a Christmas party, staff and owners super helpful and food was stunning!!

I visited the guest keen for a 60th birthday afternoon tea function which was amazing. The food was delightful and staff were very helpful. Peggy went out of her way for us even doing a separate plate for my son who has special dietary requirements can't wait to go again.

Had a fantastic day reasonably priced lovely food, nothing was too much trouble.Made my grandsons christening stress free.

I had my wedding here yesterday and have to say that it was beyond my wildest expectations. Peggy is an absolute diamond and couldn't do enough to make it a special day. Everyone commented that the venue was spectacular and the way Peggy and the staff had decorated it for the wedding was superb. The food was outstanding, the service was quick and unobtrusive and the staff were lovely. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone. I have to say that Peggy and her staff made my special day perfect. Thank you to everyone involved. If you are looking for a venue to hold a wedding I couldn't recommend this venue highly enough.

What a fantastic place to have a wedding, Peggy and all her staff were absolutely amazing, I was maid of honour in my friends wedding and I have never seen such dedicated and friendly staff that go above and beyond to make sure your day is perfect. What a fantastic venue to hold a wedding. I was a guest and the florist too here on 29/10/2016. I cannot praise Peggy and her amazing staff enough, they truly go above and beyond! I have never been made as welcome at a venue before! The food was delicious and I will definitely be visiting for Sunday lunch. Thank you Peggy, you truly have a heart of gold.

Attended a birthday party and was pleasantly surprised. The staff were very friendly. The food was from outside caterers and very nice. The building inside could do with a bit of decorating as it looked tired but from the outside what a fab old building.

Have recently visited the Guest keen for a wedding and have to say I will not be going back in a hurry. The owner Peggy is probably the rudest person I have ever had the misfortune to meet. The food was rubbish and the rest of the staff were also extremely rude. Terrible place

Sunday lunch more like home cooked than home cooked. Great selection of meats and vegetables and REAL gravy. Family fun with a family welcome
