Cozy pub in an idyllic location. Plenty of seating, pool table, great selection of drinks.

Honest review: Good range of drinks but coke mixer totally flat. Lamb steak very good but had to wait over an hour. Maybe that’s why the chicken was really dry. Good but could be better. Shame the landlord doesn’t address the issues in these reviews. That’s what comes of having a captive market I suppose.

Yr Hedyn Mwstard/The Mustard Seed has to be the most popular place to eat durung the day. We arrived at 11.45 today and found one of the last remaining tables. By midday the place was full. We had our bacon in sandwiches today, rolls sold out, but just as tasty as ever. Superb lunches cooked on the premises and the dessert display has to be seen to be believed. Can recommend the ‘specials’ lunch board and all generous servings of cakes and gateaux. Fairtrade trade coffee, Puro, strong and good quality. Run by the church next door, the volunteers do a magnificent job keeping the residents of Lampeter happy and well fed. A real community feel to the place.

We popped in for lunch and ordered the quiche and the Welsh Rarebit. A nice couple arrived celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary and sat on the table across from us. They ordered steaks from the menu and a bottle of prosecco. The server then turned on ambient music that was so loud that it was impossible to hold a conversation. I managed to turn it down just as the server appeared back to say that they had no steaks. I looked out of the window behind her and the nice couple to where I could see a lovely local butchers where I was pretty sure they sold lovely local steak! They could probably even deliver for free! The couple, disappointed ordered the fish and chips instead! Another couple arrived, were seated and given menus by the same server who mentioned nothing about the steak...a short while later she returned and they ordered... steaks...to also be told that they had no steak!! The piece of quiche that arrived was the smallest piece of quiche I've ever seen in my life and was almost lost in the garden of green leaves that surrounded it on the plate. If there was a big draft it would likely have blown off the plate. The Welsh Rarebit was soggy and tasted bitter. I asked if we could have a bigger piece of quiche. Ten minutes later the server returned to tell us that all the quiche pieces were that size. I explained the situation to the duty manager who apologised, didn't charge us and told me that the chef had recently left, the kitchen was staffed by trainees and the place was probably going to close down soon anyway. I suggested that they do so sooner rather than later and that the prosecco for the nice steakless couple should probably be free. We went to a nice deli down the road and purchased two single pieces of quiche about 10 times the size of the one we had been served...oh and there was indeed lovely fresh local steak in the butchers shop. Since then they have announced that the restaurant will close on 31st October 2024 Hopefully it will re-open one day with properly trained staff and a kitchen that makes the most of local produce and chefs who have the ability to cross the road.

Would Definitely recommend it as a bakery, perhaps not so much as a place to grab a meal. We got two meals for brunch, which came to about £30, much more expensive than the other cafes around. The portions of the breakfast was tiny. One sausage, two slices of bacon. A bit too little. However, baked goods wise it was delicious, the best vanilla doughnut I've ever had! Would go again for baked goods, definitely not for a meal.
