Very friendly, delicious cakes and drinks, highly recommend a stop off here. Liked the cake so much bought one to bring home. Staff were so very kind to my young kids who were made to feel welcome. There’s a nice little church to stroll around next to it if you need to stretch your legs afterwards.

We live fairly locally to the Lychgate and it's our go-to place to eat. The food is delicious, the place is clean and the staff are welcoming and friendly. Berriew is also a delightful place to have a stroll around. If you're in the area (or even if you're not!) I would recommend making a stop here.

What a fantastic little cafe to find. We have a dog so we sat outside on a glorious day. We were given a very warm welcome, made comfortable and then we enjoyed a lovely pot of tea (even the cups were warmed without asking) and delicious home made cakes ….ooh…and a big bowl of water for our dog. You can buy cakes and savoury goodies to take home too 😋 Lovely atmosphere with locals chatting and giving us advice on places to visit….thanks all 😊🌞😎

We were coming on holiday to Wales and I'd got up at 3am and decided to wait until I came here to have breakfast, my husband ate before leaving our house, so he had an early lunch. We arrived here around 10.30am on Friday 9th August. It was quite busy when we arrived and got even busier as on Fridays there is "Roast beef Friday lunch". We ordered drinks and they came within a few minutes. I had a latte but found it too strong for my liking. If you have a dog, you cannot go inside here and there is no back garden so you have to eat outside the front of this place - tables are set up to the side of the restaurant but there can be a lot of people and cars coming and going, we did feel like we were sitting in a car park whilst here. Our food arrived just before 11am. My breakfast was disappointing. The bacon and sausage were so dried out, I didn't enjoy eating them and left a lot, also the mushrooms - my husband ate most of it as he doesn't like to see food go to waste! He had a scotch egg with side salad and coleslaw. He found his scotch egg very dry. I really thought it was going to be lovely here from the previous reviews. Maybe we came too late or it's best to eat roast beef on Fridays, such a shame. We weren't asked how our food was until we went inside to pay.

Lovely Tearoom and Deli. As a vegetarian who doesn't like spicy food I find it very difficult to find veggie food I enjoy, however the Lychgate Cafe is an exception, I have eaten there a number of times and have really enjoyed my meals. It is great to be able to go to a cafe and know I will be happy with the food on the menu. Also very good for meat eaters, my husband loves the food. All the staff are cheerful, helpful and a pleasure to deal with. Well done Lychgate, just wish there were more cafe like you.

As the title says, we stopped to have lunch in the nearby pub but being a Monday it was closed. Just as well really because we would have missed this little gem of a place. It was a few weeks ago and I can't remember exactly what I had but it had toast, and chicken and bacon (a BLT-ish dish I suppose)...doesn't matter because it was delicious and very, very filling. The meal we had came at a relatively brisk pace but if the place was full I wonder if it would be as prompt as the kitchen area appeared to be very small (from what we could see). The staff were so friendly and at standard to which other establishments should aspire. Marvellous little place and well worth a visit.

If you don't drive through Berriew regularly then, like me, you may not have noticed The Lychgate, although the staff told us that they have been there for nigh on six years. I can't believe we have been missing out on all that great food and cake for that long!Backing onto the churchyard and nestling up against the lychgate, the tearooms are tiny but terrific. All freshly cooked food to eat in or, if you prefer, you can take away cakes etc.Probably seating for about 20 at most, the kitchen seemed around the same size as the eating area, but obviously a really busy place and it is easy to see why.If you are looking for a coffee and cake kind of stop, a light lunch or are just driving through and fancy picking up a treat, give it a go. Three of us had a light lunch, with a drink each and coffee afterwards for just under twenty pounds.

The Lychgate has a well deserved reputation for good food and fantastic service. You wish they could be cloned as they get everything right. The only problem is that it is so small so we have to ring up and reserve a table. It's the place we like to take our children when they visit. Our last visit was for breakfast. It was superb. Everything from the jug of hot water that accompanied the pot of tea, to the quality of service and the tasty food. One of us ordered the full breakfast and was the best cooked breakfast my son had tasted. My mouth was watering as I could smell my mushrooms on toast cooking. I would really recommend the mushrooms with the high quality bacon they serve. This is a special place and all the staff contribute to giving a diner a great experience. The Lychgate Cottage Tearoom & Deli is not in Welshpool, but in the village of Berriew, a few miles out on the Newtown road. It is definitely worth a detour. Take the first sign to Berriew on the right if you are travelling towards Newtown and shortly along there will be a left turn and the venue is situated on the left. You can park all around, but it does seem to be a busy little road at the times we have visited. if you just go past, over the bridge and turn left, a little way down there is a car park on the right just past the canal bridge. It is not too far to walk back.We have been there twice in recent months for a spot of lunch. Last week it was glorious sunshine so nice to be able to sit out on the tables they have outside. The food is very tasty. I had a lovely cheese and bacon wrap in a sort of puff pastry followed by a delicious lime cheescake. My wife had a tomato and mozzarella pie again in light puff pastry followed by a chocolate dessert. They have a lot of flans and quiches with slightly different ingredients. Be warned that some things are a little more expensive, but tempting, so your bill may add up. There seem to be plenty of cheaper options if you prefer. The usual range of teas, coffees, and other drinks available.Staff on both occasions were extremely friendly and welcoming. Worth a visit either for a nice treat out or for somewhere different if you are passing through on your travels.

I had heard many good things about this place and finally paid a visit recently. It is simply one of the best places in the area. Beautiful inside, friendly staff and first class food. Just give it a try and I am sure you will agree.

Lovely local server. I had the vegetarian curry, which was (surprisingly) brilliant! Homemade, and tasted fresh and well-balanced spices- unusual for a vegetarian meal. Husband had ham, egg and chips. Chips were crispy, and ham was a generous portion, tasty and thick-cut. 😋 2 slices of ham, and 2 eggs. Great 👍

Had a 20oz rump steak and a pint. Food was really good, steak was tender and cooked perfectly, staff were friendly and welcoming. Very cosy and comfortable place with a stunning view. No faults

We were staying in Hay and Drover offer the only charger for electric vehicles in the town (and it's free). They were generous with their suggestions of using it overnight. They sell maps for local road and MTB rides too, so after we'd been out on one, we stopped by for a coffee and cake. They sell energy bars and gels too, if you're stocking up before or during a ride. A very friendly team!
