Visited last week whilst on holiday to celebrate a birthday, the menu was varied and we were all impressed with what we ordered. This included the sea bass, the lamb, and the Brie, the mushroom, and the soup starters. The quality and taste of the food was amazing, my only regret is I live nearly 200 miles away, but if I was anywhere near I would go out of my way to visit again. Thank you for making our birthday celebrations great

A very enjoyable one night stay in this cosy countryside cottage inn, which consists of just 5 rooms. Wooden beams aplenty both in our room and in the bar and restaurant below. Very comfortable bed and large bathroom. Strangely no bottle of water on the hospitality tray. Delicious evening meal and an equally filling full English breakfast in the morning. WiFi very poor due to rural location. Lovely friendly service from the hosts.

Having driven past the Dolfor Inn many times over the years, we booked a table late on in the day and were very glad we did. The restaurant and bar areas of the hotel are spotlessly clean and very tastfully decorated while the food on offer on the menu all sounded absolutely delicicious, the food we chose living up to and going beyond our expectations. The owner of the hotel was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Living not too far away, we will definitely be returning to this lovely hotel which is surrounded by beautiful Montgomeryshire countryside. We had been looking for somewhere to eat in Powys all week and stumbled on this place on our last night ...you need to book....the lamb was excellent followed by the cheese cake lovely food. A drink and two courses each came to £56 well worth it. The decor was good too looked recently done and very clean. Would book a room if staying in the area next time.

Walked into the Dolfor and was welcomed by who we assumed was the owner. Very friendly and had a bit of a laugh with us. The menu was not extensive but enough choices so the food has to be good. IT WAS AWESOME. Had the lamb which was so tender and the sauce was excellent. My wife had the curry which was also really tasty and fresh. For dessert, I had the Creme Brulé and it was so creamy. My wife had the frangipane tart with custard. All in all, I would recommend visiting the Dolfor Inn. Amazing food and not a bank account breaker.

Fabulous place This was the last hotel of our holiday and I wish we had booked an extra night. Check in was good, room was nice and clean and it was so peaceful after a long drive. There is a good range of beers and there is also outside seating although not too much. Our evening meal was the best out of the whole holiday and at reasonable prices a really nice white wine was only £16.95. The breakfast the next morning was pre ordered and cooked fresh and was also.very good. If we ever venture to this part of Wales again we will definitely stay here again. Thank you to the owners for finishing our holiday on a high.

My husband and I stayed at The Dolfor this weekend and met up with friends who were also staying. The whole experience was perfect from beginning to end! Our room was utterly charming, with the most insane views over the Welsh countryside. It felt like we'd been transported inside a picture book. Touches like a gorgeous wool throw and cushions on the bed made it so homely. The bed was incredibly comfortable, with beautifully squidgy pillows and duvet. I'm extremely fussy with pillows, but these were perfect. We dined at The Dolfor that night and the food was simply superb. I had the pulled pork croquettes, followed by chicken ballotine and dauphinoise potatoes. Exquisite! The chefs clearly know their stuff, and I'm only sorry I didn't have room for a pud. Breakfast next morning was honestly one of the best cooked breakfasts I've ever had. Thick salty bacon, fat delicious sausage, perfectly fried egg... Just lovely. We're really looking forward to going back and taking our daughter, as we had a sneek peek at the family room and it's just darling. Highly recommend for anyone wanting great food in a beautiful cosy setting, with views that are to die for. And very reasonably priced!

We made an impromptu stop over in a B&B down the road and the owners recommended the Dolfor Inn for our tea. The staff were super friendly and helpful and the food was great - the chips are probably the best I have had in any pub or restaurant. A must try!Great to see local food on the menu. I had the faggots and they were excellent. My only tiny criticism was that the restaurant area was very warm. The radiators must have been on full blast. What a beautiful little Inn to stay at, in a wonderfully quiet village location, perfect for exploring mid-Wales on the bike.T and the team were so welcoming: and it was so much more personal and relaxing than some faceless Brand hotel - with only the six rooms, you felt truly like you were their personal guests. The meals where exceptional too, with multiple dietary options (the chef was also happy to accommodate my anti goats cheese tastes ). The home baked Veggie-feast pizza was especially good! Our room was lovely and quiet, with a super-comfortable bed, and a big roll-top bath in the bathroom perfect for 2 to share whilst soaking away the bike-tour aches. My companion had stayed in the Stables previously, and said it was even more impressive - so I think a return visit will be due…!Thank you again: it was my first stay away for many years, and you made it truly special.David (& Nigel)

There are simple no others words to say than The Dolfor Inn is possible one of the best places I've ever stayed in. That's because everything is done right. We only stayed one evening, and my husband and I cannot find a single thing we thought could have been done better. The room was outstanding, the bed was out of this world. I judge places I stay at by their bed and bedding, some places have a good bed and not good bedding in others it's the reverse. Here, everything is right, the bedding, the sheets, the duvet, the bed, the pillows all made for a perfect night's sleep. The food is also a must, we'd read some very good things about the food here and the online menu did not disappoint. 2 course for £12.95, and 3 courses for I think £16.95 (don't quote me). One prawn and one halloumi starter were both delicious, one ham, egg and chips and one Chicken, Ham and Leek Pie with some changes were out of this world comfort food. The portions were spot on as well. Breakfast in the morning, which is preordered the night before, was lovely. Shane was on hand for top ups of tea, coffee and toast if it was needed. The selection of cereals, granola and yoghurts was also fantastic. Hospitality here is not forgotten, if fact it rates as reason two why we'd come stay here again. In fact i'm already planning another trip to Mid Wales just to stay here, for longer than one evening.

My husband and I are both vegetarian and when on holiday, can often find it difficult to find food other than Indian meals, especially in country pubs. Not so with the Dolfor Inn which is a joy for vegetarians, with home-produced food. Staff were extremely friendly and willing to help. Friday night was burger and pizza night which we were a bit sceptical about but we needn’t have worried. Both burgers were delicious and not ‘run of the mill’ fare. The garlic mushroom starter was delicious, but my husband was less happy with his falafels. This was resolved to his satisfaction. On the Sunday we rang up quite late on the off chance they could find us a table, which they did. I queried whether the nut roast was on offer but was told it was a lunchtime special on Sundays. However, when we arrived, I found the chef had agreed to prepare this meal for me- what service! On both occasions the food was well-cooked and plentiful - so much so that on neither occasion could we fit in one of the delicious-sounding desserts! Would definitely recommend this restaurant for vegetarians.

The main course of duck was beautifully cooked - nice and tender with a tasty accompaniment of cabbage and bacon. A good choice of desserts was available to finish. Other diners seemed to be really enjoying their food too. Only one small comment for the owners...the steak and burger choices came with chips and were much larger meals as a result. The duck by comparison only had one fondant potato and was much smaller. This was just fine by us but larger appetites might have been disappointed, particularly if they didn't have a starter. All in all a great place to eat and we will certainly visit again.

Two of us are vegetarian and have found that to be something other local pubs cater for with a token single alternative. The meat and fish choices on the menu were also adventurous but with traditional/local dishes there as well. The food arrived quickly and was freshly cooked and plentiful. The chips were excellent and a large bowl of mixed seasonal vegetables to accompany a home made chicken and ham pie. Service was friendly, polite and attentive. We visited this country pub last night we were allowed to take the dog in the bar area which is really rare around the area. The food was really good and the portions excellent but this was outshone by the fantastic customer service nothing was too much trouble and as I am a really fussy vegetarian I was given quite a few options. My husband and father had the lamb which they both enjoyed. We shared a Affogato espresso sweet which was served with a shot of tia Maria a fabulous end to a lovely evening .

This is a really nice pub and definitely worth a visit. We walked there from a local b n b which was a bit hair raising (maniac drivers) but worth it. We were in the first week they were open for business and their were no dishes on the menu for my vegan friend. The kitchen came up with a choice of 3 vegan options. The food was delicious and they refused to charge us for the vegan meal. My vegetarian meal was really good too; really fresh and the portions a good size. We had some great wine too and really enjoyed our visit.

Booked last minute for me and my partner to have a late Sunday lunch. We ordered beef and pork roast dinners. Portions were huge and the creamy leakes were amazing! We were so full we asked to take the rest home as it was too good to throw away.

We visited the Dolfor inn as we havent eaten there for a while, and food has been mostly ok when visited under the current management. Sadly it didnt start off very well tonight, we were handed the menus, but mine was different to the others, with no food on the back of the other 2 menus, my wife and mum couldnt believe there was so little choice until they saw my menu!! The member of staff took our order but seemed more interested in flirting with the guy at the bar than our order, as proved later when mine and my wifes mains were mixed up. We went through to the dining room, the starters were fine, but £6.95 for 4 frozen chicken strips and a bit of salad is very expensive. Now to the main problem, the mains...my mums hunters chicken was fine, however me and my wife both ordered burgers, but were both wrong, mine should have been cheese with no salad and my wives no cheese but with salad, we ended having a mixture of the 2! We carried on as were hungry by now, however we soon discovered that our burger baps were rock hard, they were clearly toasted straight from the freezer! I tried to bite into it, but unable too, looked around but couldnt see any staff anywhere, popped to the bar and eventually someone returned, i mentioned the baps, and she said she would bring some fresh ones out, would have been much better to take the plates back to the kitchen but was better than nothing! Came out with more baps, which were softer thank god! Now the menu does say brioche buns, these were the cheapest floury ones about! As we reassembled our burgers, my wife discovered her burgers were cremated and rock hard! We couldnt be bothered to complain again though and ate what we could, the waitress came back about 10 mins later and asked if everything was ok, bit late to check now. Overall food poor, service even worse, such a shame as a former local of this pub, finding that the standard was so low.

We have visited the Dolfor Inn twice in the last couple of weeks, the second visit being on the back of the success of the first, once for Sunday lunch and another for a multi-generational meal for lunch on a Saturday.

On 13 April four of us visited this Inn for lunch in the bar. Two of us ordered 2 lunches which we assumed would be charged at the bar menu advertised in the bar. However, we were charged the restaurant evening menu price (my friends discovered later). I wrote an email to ask why this was, and have not received a reply nor acknowledgement to my correspondence. Here is my email again perhaps it got lost in cyber space!

Huge. It's the only word for it. 4 of us ate and could have fed 4 more. Good, tasty food, though only one of us managed desert. Great value for money. Highly recommended.

We called for an early evening meal and had a really nicely home cooked meal, with good potion sizes. No room left for pudding. We were offered the choice of eating in the bar or the restaurant. We opted for the bar, and felt so at ease we stayed to have another drink in the comfy sofas after. Staff were polite and friendly.

I booked this restaurant for an early sitting due to having a young child with us, the pub was quiet but the welcome was warm and friendly. The food was lovely and portion sizes good (the homemade chips were gorgeous). We didn't have enough room for pudding so will have to return to try some!

We had Sunday lunch at the pub and ate in the bar area as we had our dog with us. They were very accommodating and had a table laid up especially for us. The menu was quite small but the Sunday roasts were really tasty and the portions were generous. It was good value for money and the staff were friendly. I'd return if we were in the area again.

Booked into this place as I knew it was directly on my route back to Pembroke from Lancashire and wanted to break my journey up. Arrived late but the woman serving behind the bar warmly welcomed me and showed me straight up to my room. The room was spacious, tastefully furnished and had all the usual things you would expect to find. The bed was very comfortable and the linen was clean and crisp. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for great little place on a budget. It felt like a real result for a tired and weary traveler. Will stay again.

Definitely not the fine dining experience promised! Very disappointed, mediocre food with overcooked vegetables. Knew we were going to be disappointed when offered cheese savouries (think 1970’s party food) as an appetiser! Salt and pepper squid - lacking either salt or pepper but with the addition of soggy parsnip crisps and grapes. The waiting staff were pleasant!

Mock timber frame manor house retaining much of its character and charm. No lifts. Breakfast was choose your own pre-packed cereals with a cooked option. Dinner was a mini-taster with delicious options which we watched cooked on TV cameras. The room was clean but dated with an en-suit crammed in. High windows restricted light and views of extensive gardens and river. The staff were friendly and willing but lacked service training. Guests our age do not wish to be called 'you guys'.

Great place to stay. A friend and I cycled to the area and stayed here overnight. The owner is very accommodating and friendly. The room is a generous size with all the facilities you would want, and you have access to an outside deck area with lounge chairs and table which is ideal on a sunny day. The breakfast was also lovely. The location was great as it’s a 5 min walk from 2 good pubs and a post office/shop
