Terrible experience. When I got my order the tray was not closeable, I held the lid shut while waiting for the other order thus burning my hand. I was upset by my chips being exposed and falling out of my tray so I had asked for something larger to contain my chips and had to explain three times why I needed it. I had 2 tiny tubs: one of cheese and one of gravy to go on my chips, which was impossible with the current presentation. To top it off there was a sign saying I should ask; for a fork, salt or vinegar, and when I did was met with an awful attitude suggesting I was stupid as there were forks on the counter and available for me to just take. However the lady I initially spoke with was really nice, so customer service 4/10 - Quality of food 2/10 - Value for Expense 1/10. I regret entering and will never be returning as it has me thinking about my horrible experience even on the next day.

We went there for dinner on Thursday night for our anniversary. When we had finished our two courses the waitress presented us with the bill even though we hadn't asked for it. She said take your time there is no rush. We were still drinking our wine when she appeared with the card machine even though we hadn't aksed. I was so taken aback that I just paid. I decided to compain about the way we were treated. I spoke to the manager who offered us a bottle of wine as compensation. The watress also added on a 10% service charge which she didn't deserve. She was rude and abrupt and seemed to single us out as she didn't do this to any of the other diners. I am appalled at the way we were treated.

Great little stop and interesting town. Stopped on our way to Inverness and just made an order before their deadline. The restaurant was closing an hour earlier than google posted. We had soup and sandwiches: minted pea soup was great and I had the crazy Sammy of the day; panini with tuna, bacon, Brie cheese, cranberries, and mayo. Scoff if you will: it was great!!!! Hubs had a hamburger which arrived with a fried egg on it: he loved it. The owner was warm and struck up a conversation with us on the town when we asked. In all a great little place for lunch.

At first we went into the Hotel bar, having asked if we could come in with our dog. She was made welcome and even given a biscuit. When we left we asked what was in the other room, lots of laughing going on. We were told it was the public bar and that is where we spent the night. The Crabby One watching the football and me talking to the bar staff and my dog! We worry, going into strange pubs, how will the regulars great us? There was no need to worry, we were made welcome before we got through the door. Again our dog was welcome, spoilt with biscuits. The staff were friendly to us as well as our dog, clean and tidy and the glasses even got polished, this is a dieing art!

Lovely meal tonight. Had NC500 burger - fantastic. Starters were delicious. Partner had Steak Pie which was beautiful. Owner and staff were lovely especially the charming Zoe. Great wee lass. Highly recommend for food, drink and banter! We will definitely be back when in Helmsdale.

We went to visit the Bears Den as the chippy in golspie was closed. However on arrival, it was closed. This wasn't mentioned anywhere on there Google page which could've been easily updated on the fly but they did not seem to do so. A 15 minute drive for nothing. I can't say anything about the food, I don't imagine it's bad but I will unfortunately not have the chance to try it due to them not managing their page properly. Not impressed!

Go all the time for breakfast and was so disappointed in the new breakfast menu. Way over complicating the full breakfast, with multiple choice question just to order a normal breakfast. Not to mention not ordering service at table anymore. Then went for lunch and I only ever have the curry and chips. Heart sank when it arrived. Clearly a different curry recipe as totally different colour and was awful. Plus the curry was poured all over the chips and not in separate dish like always. If it’s not broken don’t try to fix it. Clearly just an excuse to hike up the prices. Very disappointing and will now out price a lot of elderly regulars and families!!!

Good menu, good prices, lovely staff. What more do you need. Well worth a visit and worth booking just in case. Family owned and they also own local farm butcher
