We were staying at Links House for a couple of nights and had our wedding anniversary dinner in Mara. The service from the moment you enter till you leave is simply superb and really does enhance the experience. The food was delicious and we had difficulty in choosing what to have as all seemed so appealing. I appreciate previous comments about the cost but it's not really 3 courses you are getting when you consider the tasters etc and the quality is first class We will be back.

A wonderful restaurant for a special occasion. The staff and the ambiance made for a perfect evening. The complimentary venison croquettes and the chef’s sourdough were an added bonus. The hand dived scallop crevice, turbot, cod and sumptuous desserts made it a night to remember.

What a disappointment. Four of us went for dinner expecting a lovely meal, but sadly it didn’t deliver. My husband & I enjoy tasting menus and dine regularly in top rated restaurants and we hoped that Mara restaurant would deliver the usual quality we have come to expect. Unfortunately it was overpriced and I can honestly say the entire meal was well under par. 3 courses for £90 - but the main course is not even a complete dish as sides are extra at £7.50. Our South African friends (who were staying at Links House) are used to top quality hospitality and they agreed it did not come close to what they expected. The next evening we dined at Luigi’s in the town centre and, for a fraction of the price of Mara, we all enjoyed a wonderful meal. It could just have been an off night, but certainly not a patch on Three Chimneys on Skye, Martin Wishart at Leith or Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles. We are happy to pay for a delicious dinner as long as it is value for money. This fell way short in our opinion.

This restaurant styles itself as upmarket, with a £90 per head fixed menu. It was comfortable but certainly not luxurious, with the food selection and quality lower than may reasonably be expected for the price. It is clearly trying to cash in on the association with the well known golf course right outside the door.

The fresh, well-prepared, and super tasty food was easily matched by the professional, friendly and attentive service. The freshly baked bread with pumpkin seed-infused olive oil was a surprise stoundout and the the risotto with wild garlic and peas was mouth-watering! You don’t need to be staying at the Links House @ Royal Dornoch to enjoy a standout meal but definitely make reservations. Many thanks to the staff.

Well, probably the nicest meal Ive had in a long long time. Also, the most expensive. I expect to pya for quality but this was extortionate. Place is beautiful and service impeccable. We had 4 gins and 2 tonic waters. A bottle of red (£57) & 2 espresso martinis 6 oysters 2 fillet steaks with chips and broccoli 2 deserts - carrot cake and chocolate mousse. Total bill £315 - Im used to London prices but most I've paid for similar (at Zedel's Leicester Square) & that was £220

Pane fatto in casa e vini eccezionali. Hanno un primitivo di Manduria eccellente e nel nord della Scozia è tantissimo.

We had the 4 course menu and I think it was one of the best meals I've had anywhere. Locally sourced produce beautifully presented and very filling. We did the matching wine parings as well, also excellent, maybe glasses a bit too large judging by my head the next day. I didn't think any of the courses we had were overly complicated or artistic, there was no foam in site, no smoke of rosemary under a bell jar and I've seen both before. Just quality produce cooked to perfection. I certainly didn't leave hungry either. Staff were friendly and informative, made us feel welcome. I guess some folk may find friendly people off putting? It is fine dining as you would find in many places across the globe, portion size, prices and experience reflect that. It may not be for everyone, but these two British people enjoyed it immensely.

This restaurant operates with a level of presumption which stretches credulity; their style of decor and service might suit many foreign guests but most Brits may find it touches on vulgarity. On the positive side, the staff are invariably helpful and welcoming, even though they appear to have been trained in the art of obsequiousness. The food is delicious and carefully cooked, even if the portions are modest and the prices eye-watering. May the Lord preserve us from young chefs, anxious to make a name for themselves; they tend to offer dishes with presentations more akin to an art installation than a meal, invariably as minute portions of a bizarre concoction on an immense plate. One option stated it contained Dill - it did, but as a frond no bigger than a finger nail. If you like great tasting food in very small portions served by fawning staff and regardless of cost, this is the place for you. As someone once said, “people who like this sort of thing will find it just the sort of thing they like.”

We booked Mara as we were booked for my birthday treat into the Links House Hotel. Last time we stayed, Mara was closed due to covid restrictions, so we were excited to finally get to eat here. Can I first start by saying, all staff at this hotel are fantastic - welcoming, attentive & helpful? Something you do not encounter often in this world. We started with a beautifully presented small breadcrumbed 'coconut' puff ball (apologies, I cannot recall the exact name!) which burst into flavour when popped into the mouth. There then followed what can only be described as 'poetry' in bread form - the chef's home-made sourdough bread, with butter flavoured with sea salt & honey (light as a feather) and roasted pumpkin seed oil. Wow. I could just have continued with the bread alone. An amuse bouche in the form of smoked fish (again I cannot recall it's exact name) with caviar and presented on a bed of leeks, was delightful. My husband had the beef short rib for starter, I had the salmon, which was paired with exquisite little pieces of apple. A palate cleanser followed - apple & celery sorbet - again, clean, sharp and wonderfully flavoured. Main course - we both had the chicken, again beautifully presented, some of which was folded into savoy cabbage, in a lovely jus. I had a selection of local cheeses plus the hotel's own honey and fig chutney, husband opted for the chocolate dessert which he advised was lovely. One of the nicest meals I have had. Can't wait to go back tomorrow night!

We were staying in dornoch with my son playing golf and wanted to get something above a pub level. This place looked god for that. It was all while the menu didn’t have any beef meet which must be strange for a pace there but there was meal of the day that was fillet steak. Both of us went for steaks… i have to admit the food and compliments were good - very decent freshness and quality. The meat was mildly scented while not too much… The reason the experience is terrible is that when we get the bill there was extra 25 gbp for steaks. I politely requested why it’s extra to 80gbp (160 for 2) for 3 course menu and got a very vague answer. Then we were presented with the bill without that item. At the same time we were told that we had been informed it would be an extra charge which was complete lie. I requested the original bill of 291 gbp and paid that as i would rather make the point that it’s a small scale sham operation without proper overseeing of the management than accepted the smaller bill. If i am lied into my face and misled about the reason and then the whole personnel look like a bunch of small children misbehaving when you explain your point it’s extremely obvious of what is going on. I am attaching two bill that i have and honestly advise the hotel and restaurant owner to do full scale audit there.

Exceptional locally-sourced food and impeccable service in comfortable, classy surroundings. Shetland oysters were as good as any I've had in France, even Gillardeau. Discovered some South-African gems with the wine-tasting menu. Innovative tastes, without being too fussy. I'm not a fan of too many tastes being crammed onto one plate, so congratulations to the chef for getting it just right in my opinion. Enough space between tables to maintain privacy. On a different level to anything else I've experienced in the north of Scotland. I look forward to my next dinner there.

If you’re looking for a Michelin experience, you may want to look somewhere else. If you’re looking for a good, overpriced meal in a nice setting with great service, then this is your place. We decided on the four course tasting menu. The food was all cooked nicely, however the seasoning and flavors were all over the place. The food was either very under seasoned or very over seasoned. The dessert crème caramel was way over-smoked. The wine was so incredibly expensive and overpriced, we didn’t bother. The saving grace was the service. We were not alone in our dissatisfaction with the meal. Several tables around us were having the same discussion we did. I did reply to the email from the restaurant asking for my feedback. I gave them an honest reply expressing my disappointment, but never heard back from them. I specifically waited a week before writing this review to see if they would respond. I won’t go back and if you’re reading this, I’d give it a miss. There are plenty of wonderful places to eat in Dornoch and the surrounds where you won’t leave feeling ripped off and disappointed.

However, that traditonal experience is very well brought up to date; it is neither stuffy nor elitist, but instead offers a friendly cosy atmosphere where you feel totally relaxed and appreciated.

Visited on a Tuesday evening in July. Welcome very good, drinks good and reasonably priced. Canapés were well presented and tasty. My salmon and crab starter was again tasty and we'll presented the pork looked great as did the scallops. The seafood main was delicious ( said the wife) the halibut again looked great and apparently was superb. I had the aged fillet great piece of beef along with sauce and veg, if I have one slight observation the braised oxtail was lost on the plate, but that doesn't take away from the dish. Sweets were great as was the local cheese's with port and a sweet wine, my biggest recommendation is I will be back.

Dining at this hotel is an absolute delight. From the moment you arrive until the moment you leave, you are looked after with courtesy and care. We had the taster menu, which the chef kindly adapted for our pescatarian friend, and we felt it compared favourably with taster menus at Michelin starred restaurants we had eaten at elsewhere. The quality and attention to detail here are unsurpassed and we hope things dont ever change.

My husband and I booked afternoon tea here and WOW ! where do I start ! The whole experience from start to finish was wonderful. Beautiful surroundings and very friendly attentive staff. We eat out regularly and have been many different places for afternoon tea but this excelled all expectations. From the smoked salmon sandwiches, local crab croissants, refreshing little rhubarb jellies to the sumptuous scones and cakes everything was a wonderful explosion of taste in our mouth. The lovely lady who looked after us parcelled up all the cakes etc which were left (12 items in all) to take home. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and highly recommend this lovely place.

Visited this restaurant as a non resident. Booked our table for 6.30 pm. When we arrived it was not clear where to park or where the restaurant actually was. We found it eventually but parked in the golf club car park rather than the restaurant car park. No problem and when we walked into reception no one asked our name but took us straight through to the lovely seating area next to a roaring log fire, perfect. Lovely waiter extremely friendly and attentive and not to intrusive. Handed menus and all looked lovely approx three choices for each course but no price listed anywhere and no explanation as to how the menu worked what was or was not included. I only knew the cost from looking at trip advisor 58.00 per head which was fine but if you don’t use trip advisor you would have no idea of price and you should not have to ask. In any event we ordered wine and chose our menu choices. We the received two canapés each which were lovely but served in a huge pudding type bowl, way too big for the canapés not great presentation. We were then taken through to the restaurant. Lovely ambience and great large tables. We were offered home made warm rolls of different flavours and three choices of butter, all gorgeous. Starters of steak tartare and lobster bisque gorgeous. A mixed leaf salad followed and then main courses of venison which was great just perfect. We were offered still and sparkling water which were served from bottles and kept behind a small bar in the restaurant. Desserts not my favourite but well presented. We were then offered coffee again no explanation if included in set menu or not and we retired to the cosy seating area we sat in initially. The coffee was average, nothing special and just as we finished some chocolates arrived, again served in a huge pudding bowl. It would have been better to serve the chocolates with the coffee not after. We were then unsure how to get our bill and eventually got some attention and requested our bill and also asked for the remainder of our wine as there was over half a bottle left as we had hardly touched it. The waitress did not seem keen to bring the wine but arrived quickly with the bill and card machine. I have to say we were shocked to be charged 8.00 for water as this was certainly not made clear on ordering. I must make it clear it is not the cost at all but transparency to customers is key and we should have been told that coffee, water not included but chocolates, canapés and salad intermediary was. Very confusing. Again we had to ask for our wine which was embarrassing and not what we expected. It took the shine off an otherwise fabulous night. Don’t expect customers to know what the score is a simple explanation would suffice. When I spend 170 pounds on a meal for two I expect impeccable service, food and overall experience which we did not get. The food however was great.

Booked a table for dinner with my husband. From the moment we arrived, enjoying a glass of champagne in front of the fire to the very end it was a wonderful night. The food was amazing and the 2 people on duty got it just right. Real attention to detail and very welcoming. I can’t and don’t want to find fault with this. Good value for money as well. After having toured all over Scotland for the past 15 years or so I can safely say Links House restaurant is the best dining experience I’ve ever had. Chef JP puts together thoughtful dishes using the finest locally sourced ingredients and does not hesitate to stop by your table afterwards to discuss his creations and interests/requests for future nights dishes. Was especially impressed to find great vintage Barolo’s and Brunello’s that paired beautifully with the amazing tenderloin one evening. Have to say the daily craft gin selection and post dinner honor single malt bar were also well appreciated! Melissa and her staff were attentive, mindful and looked after our every need. Can’t wait to return!

Recently stayed at the Links House for several days of golf with friends. The kitchen produced consistent and high(est) quality food. We had one special dinner with a superb selection of wines (my knowledgeable friend was quite impressed with the list). The hotel is fantastic but I would make the restaurant a destination onto itself.

Nu nog weinig plaatsen ( een 16 tal ) maar volgend jaar volgt uitbreiding.Een restaurant (kok) om te blijven volgen , het beloofd voor de toekomst

This place is truly a gem. Great location overlooking the golf course and beach. The staff are lovely, the premises immaculate with a Scottish theme running throughout and the food is too die for! We were there for an evening meal tonight and cannot fault it! Jp the head chef is definitely a very talented chef! The beef tartare was a great start to my meal everything on the plate complimented each other. The Lamb and fillet steak mains were exceptional too, the sweet juicy meat just melted in your mouth. And the incredible dessert was dulche de leche tart the pastry and filling were just incredible will be dreaming of the dessert! So many courses for such great price and its all high quality fresh local produce, including lobster bisque with piccalilli and ham hock, truffled egg, tomato salad, all the different homemade rolls served warm with 3 flavoured hand churned butters and the selection of handmade chocolates at the end. Everything was so delicious! Cannot fault a thing. Will definitely be returning!

We were invited to Links House by some of my husband's colleagues and stayed for 3 nights. During this time we ate breakfast and dinner in the hotel restaurant. Everything was absolutely fantastic. I have submitted several photos from over the three days. The menu changed daily and on the third day we had a BBQ with a big selection of items from the grill including salad. Desserts were all delicious too. The staff were very professional but also friendly. Especially Fraser who was very charming. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice of cold and cooked dishes. Every evening J.P. the chef came to speak to us to get feedback and to discuss the food for the following day. We had an absolutely fantastic time, gained several pounds, but can't wait to go back again.

I was invited along to a special tasting menu evening. We arrived and were warmly welcomed with a complementary glass of champagne in the stunning library. The hotel is exquisite! We had an 8 course tasting menu, with canapés & petit fours. All the diners jaws dropped when the swordfish dish was served...it was presented in a sphere of ice. Every dish was executed to perfection and you could tell the chef went all out to impress his diners. The staff were all lovely and very informative with each dish that came out. Definitely worth a visit if you haven't already been, a unique dining experience.

We hosted friends there for lunch on New Years day and the unanimous verdict was one of the best meals we had been served. The visit started well with complimentary gluwein in front of a log fire is a very tastefully decorated lounge. There is a second lounge with a TV in a different colour scheme. Both rooms plus the dining room show an interior decorators art to the highest of standards. Our menu had adequate choices foe all and each dish was served in appropriate tableware. If as they say you eat with your eyes as much as your mouth Links House satisfies both. We appreciated at the end of the meal the young chef visiting our table for a short chat. At all times service was attentive without being obtrusive and very courteous and friendly. For a lunch on New Year's day we felt we received excellent value. I have no personal experience of accommodation, but several friends who have stayed at Links House have always been complimentary.

My partner and I had dinner here and it didn't disappoint. We were fortunate that with it being low season we were the only people there, so it was more like a personal dining experience. The house is full of character and even sitting in the living room in front of the roaring fire with our drinks was a pleasure. The lady that was serving us (wish I could remember her name) was very friendly and full of information about the food and the area. The chef, Jon-Paul cooked us a fabulous three course meal and found the time to have a chat. The whole experience from start to finish was top drawer. It's more expensive than your average dining experience but this isn't average and I've never been averse to paying out for fine dining. When the food and service is this good you won't feel short changed.

We've been around the Highlands and Islands quite some times but this hotel will become surely one of our favourites! Exquisite service, fine breakfast and very friendly and helpfull staff. Sadly enough we could eat only one night out of the three we've stayed in the hotel restaurant, but what a gourmet diner it was !For us this kitchen is right next to the ones of Kinloch logde, Kinloch house, Ilse of Eriska and Inverlochy castle! We dine frequently in Michelin star restaurants on the continent, as well well business wise as with the family, so we can honestly evaluate the restaurant on Michelin star level !!! Compliments to the chef. The only remark we could find is to let go of the black coloured plates and to use traditional white ones instead (this is really toothpicking). Also our compliments to the staff in general who made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. We'll be back.

We know the Tongue area very well, and like to eat locally, so it was obvious we would decide to eat at the Craggan, and i'm happy we did! The restaurant area is welcoming and clean, staff friendly, and the car park was easy even with a big van. The only problem was choosing from the menu! So many tasty things - i wish we had more time to visit again.. All three of us enjoyed our food, and we shared everything so i know it was all delicious. Thank you for making a rather wet evening so special..

I recently had the pleasure of spending a delightful day at Dores Inn, and I still find myself reminiscing about the experience six months later. Nestled along the shores of the iconic Loch Ness, this charming inn offers a perfect blend of stunning views, a warm atmosphere, and exceptional service. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a lovely ambiance that sets the tone for a relaxing visit. The inn has ample seating, both indoors and outdoors, making it easy to find a cozy spot to enjoy the picturesque scenery. We opted for an outside table, and it turned out to be the best decision of the day. The views of the loch were absolutely breathtaking, providing a serene backdrop for our meal. Speaking of the meal, I must rave about the food—simply sublime! I usually find coleslaw unappealing, but Dores Inn's homemade version was a game changer. It was fresh, flavorful, and complemented our dishes beautifully. Every bite was a testament to the culinary care that goes into their offerings. After our satisfying meal, we joined a Rib-Boat journey on the loch, which was an exhilarating way to experience the surroundings. The thrill of speeding across the water, combined with the breathtaking views of the loch and its mythical charm, made for an unforgettable adventure. As a memento of our day, I couldn't resist purchasing one of their handmade crochet teddies of Nessie. It's now a cherished keepsake that brings back fond memories of our visit. To wrap up our day, we took a leisurely walk along the shoreline. The tranquility of the loch, coupled with the stunning natural beauty surrounding us, was the perfect ending to a fantastic day. Overall, Dores Inn exceeded my expectations in every way. From the lovely atmosphere and great views to the delectable food and friendly service, it’s a place I highly recommend. If you're looking for an exceptional day out near Loch Ness, don’t miss the opportunity to visit this gem. I still think about that wonderful day, and I can’t wait to return!

This was a lovely experience, the food was not ' swimming in grease' as i saw from another review, but it was great to see that the more recent reviews have been validated. We went here for my birthday at the end of october and honestly everything was really lovely . the service was great they were so friendly from the getgo, the charcuterie board we had for starter was very filling and diverse just wish they would have told us what the cheeses were ( i think the brie was from tain though it was familair) but thats a minor niggle that we had no info. the main courses were fab the skin on chips were AMAZING , and its a dog friendly place which we loved , we dont have dogs but we did get to pet some which made our day !
