The Wee Puffin in Highland

Our family of 4 had a wonderful meal here whilst on our trip to Grantown on Spey. The food was wonderful, homemade, good quantity and quality at a good price. We had steak and ale pie, balmoral chicken, chicken goujons and veggie burger plus wonderful homemade desserts. The vegetarian options were really good. We would recommend to anyone looking for something to eat here.

This is the 2nd year we’ve visited and it was excellent. The menu is varied and reasonably priced. Had the haggis this time around and was excellent. As a couple of other reviewers have also mentioned the ONLY negative was having to watch the poor lad serving us getting dogs abuse from the lady that runs the front of house. It was totally noticeable being such a small restaurant - so much so I gave the poor lad (who was hardworking, totally pleasant and very young) a pep talk telling him he was doing really well. There really is no need for such behaviour in this day and age. Needs addressing!

Met up with family members.. they had booked the wee puffin for dinner.. service was prompt, staff very friendly, food was served hot and was amazing.. very tasty.. good choice on menu...very busy place.. definitely worth a visit or two..!

Batter not cooked. No apology when advised very discreetly. No apology when meal replaced and no enquiry to see if next meal was satisfactory. No reduction offered on bill and waitress stated she couldn’t deal with it and said i was being confrontational. Another person had to deal with my complaint. He was Orcadian and very apologetic Same waitress bullied young waiter

What an excellent wee restaurant. Best meal we have had in a long time. Lovely staff, great service and a very good menu. Prices very reasonable. There is a comprehensive bar with an extensive range of cocktails and whiskies.

We were going to eat at our hotel but got told there was over an hour's wait as a very large group had arrived. So we went exploring and found this charming and very friendly eatery. Food all cooked to order. Husband had chilli and I had the pan fried bbq chicken. Both absolutely delicious. For dessert,hubby had choc fudge cake and I had sticky toffee pudding. It was so delicious. It was actually better than one we had at the home of sticky toffee pudding in Cartmel. The Wee Puffin also has a large range of cocktails, gins and of course whiskies. I can imagine that in the height of the holiday season it would be jammed packed and I would recommend making a booking. You really need to eat here at least once if you can.

Lovely home cooked style food in a cosy restaurant. The burgers were tasty and the curry fresh made. Excellent selection of local beers and ciders. Would recommend booking to avoid disappointment.

We decided to have dinner at The Wee Puffin after reading the reviews. It did say on the door that reservations were recommended but we took a chance on getting a table. The lovely waitress gave us a table which we could have for an hour. We had Balmoral chicken and steak and ale pie which were both delicious. We decide to have a pudding as we had plenty of time, this too was amazing, apple pie and custard and sticky toffee pudding of which my partner said it was the best sticky toffee pudding he has ever had. Thank you The Wee Puffin for an amazing and very tasty meal, service and friendliness. Would definitely recommend this to other people.

The Wee Puffin is a wonderful family-run restaurant. The team is young and very authentic, very helpful and friendly. The food is all freshly prepared and the local cuisine in particular, such as haggis and steak & ale pie, is excellent here. Also the burger's are wonderful. The Wee Puffin also has an incredible selection of Scottish beers and ales. A visit is highly recommended - preferably with a reservation in advance, as the restaurant gets fully booked very quickly, especially in high season.

My partner and I went there for dinner and had a lovely time - we booked in advance, and they were very accommodating of us bringing our (calm) dog. The service was friendly and very efficient. The atmosphere was cozy and we appreciated spotting all the puffin details in the restaurant! They have a great selection of whisky, gin and beer. We ordered the puffin balls, bar bee burger, and a steak and ale pie - the later was the highlight, it was one of the best pies I've ever had! We polished it all off with the sticky toffee pudding - delicious. We had a great time, and look forward to coming back!

We ate here twice in our week staying in Granton, super staff and the food was excellent both times. You definitely need to book as it’s booked out and they hate turning folk away so definitely book a table you won’t be disappointed.

The price-quality ratio at The Wee Puffin is good. The atmosphere in the restaurant was pleasant, although it was very warm inside, even under the fan. Despite the heat it was a nice restaurant to have something to eat. Conclusion: The Wee Puffin offers a fine dining experience with a pleasant atmosphere and good value for money. The only downside was the heat inside, but it remains a cozy place for a meal.

Very cute restaurant in Grantown-on-Spey. Service was adequate; nice people who work there but our waitress wasn't super interactive. Menu had a good variety. Kids menu available. Tons of drink options - has quite the Scotch collection. Husband had the chili and really enjoyed it; I had chicken tenders and they were very good. Our son had sausage with vegetables and ate it all! Highly recommend if passing through this area or staying nearby.

Fantastic dog friendly place, booked for dinner and told them we have a dog, arrived to find a table with dog bowl of water there ready for us, they even cooked a sausage for the dog! The food was amazing and the burgers one of the best I've ever tasted, with traditional Scottish food also, friendly service from staff and lovely cocktails, and very reasonably price, highly recommend this place, thank you for a lovely evening.

Stayed in Grantown on spey for just 2 nights on our way through the Cairngorms but were lucky enough to get a table at The Wee Puffin. We had such a good time here. The food, whilst not fancy, was exceptionally tasty, comforting, and worth every penny. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming and the ambience was spot on. Huge selection of drinks and loads of whiskys too. We really enjoyed our visit and would highly recommend.

Lovely atmosphere, great service , reasonably priced food

You should always make a reservation there because the food is fantastic and there are also a lot of whiskeys where you can try and buy. The beer from the whiskey barrel also tastes very good and is drinkable (be careful, it gets into your head very quickly)

We ordered a cheeseburger and bacon burger. Very good. Very tasty and tender meat, the chips were also crispy. The salad that came with it was fresh and tasty. Highly recommended if you are in this area!

Food is really good and flavourish. Vegan options is mostly indentified and you only have to ask precisions. Vegan can only feel very welcomed! Staff was super nice and welcoming, especially with our two dogs including one a little noisy (a tendency to bark at strangers approaching)

Have had a sit down meal in the restaurant and a couple takeaways and the food is always so fresh and delicious. The service has always been great and a lovely atmosphere within the restaurant. Also have a really great drinks and cocktail menu which isn’t common in the area.

We come here every time we visit Grantown. Never disappoints. Best to book though as its pretty small and busy. Good service and beer selection. The chicken and mushroom pie special was outstanding.

Been to the wee puffin a few times for takeaway food and never had an issue. Tasty food and decent sized portions. Not sure what it would be like to sit in but im sure standards would be the same!

We have visited twice now, Dec 23 and Feb 24. Each time the food has been exceptional and generous portions. Each time we’ve been they have paid special attention to our 2 springer spaniels, bringing them a water bowl and even cooking them some sausages! At our visit in February they were very busy but they made time to still spoil our dogs and give us a great experience. Cocktails are delicious and waitress’s do a good job! Will be back!

We visited the Little Puffin while visiting Granton for New Year. It’s definitely one of the nicest cafes I’ve been in and we travel a lot around Scotland. The food was very tasty and the service was excellent . Can’t wait to go back

As soon as we entered we were greeted with a sense of home. The staff were extremely nice and the food was delicious (especially the brownies). Our dessert was delayed but it was made up for as it tasted amazing! The decor was fun and interesting and they had an impressive array of Whiskey! We had a brilliant evening and would visit again.

I have known the Wee Puffin since 2019 and I have to say, the quality was great and will still be great in 2023. The team deserves a 5 star rating, the kitchen would also receive 6 stars and should be given a bonus. The dishes are always hot, the food is always delicious. I can recommend the Wee Puffin with a clear conscience.

My partner chose this restaurant for his birthday meal while staying in the town. They said family friendly and we tested them with our little toddler firecracker. The staff put up with her exploring and she ate every bite of her mac and cheese so it must have been great. We had burgers which were filling and the puds were lovely. The food came quickly. It was a lovely way to spend our final night

Lovely little bistro type place on the main high street in Grantown on Spey. Nice cosy atmosphere Good food with a varied menu. The cocktails delicious! Large selection of fine whiskeys if that’s your thing. Staff young and able and friendly. Well done to them all especially the kitchen staff who must work their socks off.

The restaurant is small and feels a bit cramped. But overall we enjoyed our meal and were satisfied with both the food and service.

The food was very good. The cocktails were very good. The young lassie waitressing was friendly and welcoming. However, the other lassie (I assume manager) was certainly not friendly or welcoming. She was rude to us and we watched another couple come in and they were given the same treatment for a booking mix up. Easy to see it’s a high tourist area and she didn’t care about customer satisfaction.

After struggling to get a Take Away we called the Wee Puffin. We had to go see the menu and then relay it back to our companions. The order of 14 adult and one child meals were duly produced (whilst they continued to serve restaurant diners). The food was excellent quality and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

Went here last night in a group of 10 and was 5 mins late for booking to be then told coz we were late we couldnt have a 3 course meal, the server was aggressive in the way she spoke to us, very rude and once orders were taken she then threw the menus into a box aggressively for the nice two young ladies to tidy up after her. We were served by the other two young girls who were very nice and polite and could not have faulted the meals, very tasty and served in a decent time. We were there for over an hour and could have had plenty time to have a 3 course meal. When we paid for the meal which was around £270 there was a few pound left in the tip jar and the two young lovely girls were given a tip just for them and not for the rude lady who first served us, whom we found out was the owners daughter !!! We thought her name must have been Karen 😤 Thankyou chef lovely meal 😋😋😋

I had a very negative experience at this restaurant with staffs willingness to deal with my allergies and over priced food. When arriving to our booking I informed the waitress of my egg and pulse allergy, to which she seemed unsure how to deal with this. The, I assume, manager came over to the table and aggressive told us that we should’ve informed them of my allergies when booking, even though we were not asked and this shouldn’t be a discriminatory issue. I was then told I ‘should just order off the vegan menu for ease’, which I know is not easier as many vegan foods have pulses in. I informed the ‘manager’ of this factor and her aggressive, dismissive attitude continued. I was additionally asked in a hostile tone how severe my allergy was, which made me feel unwelcome, an issue and judged. I then ordered pan fried chicken, not out of choice but I was fed up with trying to find out which meals were allergen free and I felt this would likely be okay for me to eat. the pan fried chicken came and it was simply plain chicken and chips with bbq sauce for £13. I felt very unwelcome at this restaurant and discriminated against due to my food allergies, adding to my fear and anxiety of dining out but dietary needs, would not recommend.

We had a lovely family dinner. Simple but excellent food at a very reasonable price. The girls who served were lovely - they caputured our mood so well. Definitely a place to revisit next time we are there.

Cozy, family run restaurant offering breakfast, lunch and dinner. Wide ranging menu with soups, salads, burgers menu and daily specials reasonable priced. I enjoyed a Madras chicken curry and sticky toffee pudding, both very good. A full bar with specialty cocktails, wines and a selection of beers. Clearly a local favorite and very busy, so reservations for dinner are a must unless you get there very early.

We came In late after a large party, but we were seated quickly. The service was great even with it being busy. We ordered the fish and chips and the chicken strips. The food was delivered hot and fresh. Big portions, great value. It was delicious. Could not eat it all. The desserts I saw being delivered to the larger party looked great but we were too full to order our own. We will be back! Highly recommend. It's small and very busy so make a reservation!

Booked a table last minute on a Saturday night for a family trip in Grantown. Was served promptly, staff were lovely, and food was excellent. Reasonably priced too. Would certainly return when next in Grantown.

We were able to book a table quite last minute and we were really impressed with our visit. It's a small, cosy venue with a great selection of cocktails, beers and whiskey and the menu catered very well for both adults and children. The staff were attentive and the prices really reasonable - we will definitely be returning.

A local restaurant that always seems to be packed, so indicative of the quality of food. We had pre booked as first night we couldn't get a table. Had drinks (lots of local specialities) ,the drinks menu is very good value; haggis, tatties & neeps and I had a special dish of Puffin Balmoral Chicken (chicken breast on a bed of haggis served with veg and rice). Only criticism of the Wee Puffin is that we had to wait quite a while to place our food order probably about 25 mins (it was very busy with other diners coming and going). The Wee Puffin offers a take-away service as well. Food was hot, delicious and good portions. As the evening wore on and tables left, other couples and groups were coming in and able to get seats so my advice would to be go later on if you haven't got a booking. Highly recommend.

Poor experience, owner chef served up a chicken dish they couldn't accept wasn't cooked right. They could only offer insults, threats and rejection, absolutely no acceptance of our concerns. We were told, we have been serving this dish for the last nine years without complaint....

Terrible experience with the male chef after complaining about the goujons being tough and tasteless.He said it must be the tablets I am taking! He did not accept criticism and had totally unacceptable behaviour. He has no customer handling skills! I won't be back!! I don't recommend this restaurant! The chefs attitude is unacceptable! We had a nice meal at Wee Puffin during our stay in late June. The menu provides lots of options and all the dishes are freshly prepared. We went for the Homemade Chicken Curry and Veggie haggis with neeps and tatties, which were both delicious. Good service, reasonable prices and excellent drinks menu, which including some interesting local beers / ales.

Food was great. Fried haggis. Bacon cheeseburger and bbq burger. Split the hot chocolate fudge cake w/ice cream for dessert. Waitress and bartender need to get on same page. Wife ordered an espresso martini but was given an old fashioned. Waitress kept insisting it was an espresso martini. Bartender (owner??) finally came over and apologized and replaced it the correct drink.

Excellent home cooking and lovely atmosphere....4 year old grandson well catered for and us 3 adults thoroughly enjoyed fab lasagne, amazing sausage and mash and haggis, needs and tatties! Nice choice of desserts too !Well done Wee Puffin....will be back!🥰🥰🥰

Great food, let down by extremely slow service. We had a family dinner here recently when we were staying near Grantown, and the menu is fantastic. Both food and drinks, plenty of choice and its all cooked fresh which makes a huge difference. However this place really needs someone with a bit of experience to take charge and actually run the place. It was busy but we waited over an hour for our food from ordering. A real shame, we'd go back, but probably when its a bit quieter as it seemed a bit disorganised.
