Good menu, good prices, lovely staff. What more do you need. Well worth a visit and worth booking just in case. Family owned and they also own local farm butcher

With so many places shut during COVID and autumn we found this restaurant for lunch. It was great delicious food served by lovely waitress. Reasonably priced and a roaring log burner . Well worth a visit

I'd strongly advice anyone who is thinking about going don't. It was the worst meal I've ever had and we were not the only ones who thought this. The food was disgusting and the manager/chef wouldn't even come and speak with us. We walked out in the end as did two other tables

Al primo piano di un tipico edificio proprio al centro di Dornoch questo pub-ristorante offre i soliti e tipici piatti della cucina scozzese ed una discreta scelta di birre. Servizio risultato un po' distratto.

Lovely traditional restaurant with the friendly efficient service we've experienced everywhere we've been in the Highlands. Great food freshly cooked to order. Worth a visit and highly recommended.

Staff were both excellent and the food could not be faulted except to say there is to much! Should have a note to say not to have starter if you want to finish main course. If you want a desert definitely skip as starter (and the deserts looked yummy!). Also price is really good

During our stay in Dornoch, we visited the One up twice. The One up offers typical pub food of good quality and has a very accurate and friendly staff. One feels really welcome here! The curry is quite good and also the Haddock is tasty. For dessert, the sticky toffee pudding is very much recommended as it was of the better toffee puddings we experienced in this vacation.

First of all, the staff were lovely, the barman downstairs was very helpful and the waitress upstairs couldn't be faulted . . unfortunately the food could. The family shared nachos for starters - fairly stale tortilla chips covered in cheese and sweet chilli sauce (?). One member of our party had the chicken and rice soup and he enjoyed that. Main course - hot chilli salmon . . . . a (nicely cooked) piece of salmon, but smothered in the same sweet chilli sauce and served on over-cooked pasta. The fish and chips were poor, the fish was a bit watery and tasteless, one diner had the chicken curry which had obviously been sitting out and heated up in the microwave. The kids menu - the pizza was doughey and I suspect recently defrosted, smothered in cheese then microwaved. All the kids meals were listed as served with beans . . but they had run out ?? Really? on a Saturday night at 6.30 I think I would have sent someone round to the co-op to buy a tin or two. A shame really, Dornoch is a lovely wee town and deserves a bit more effort.

We had a quick lunch here on Saturday, we were served promptly, and efficiently by a friendly girl. the portions were generous, if not bordering on too much, but not for my other half who enjoyed the food so much he polished off half of mine! food was well presented, very very good chips!!! Decor was quirky and liked all the exposed beams. (faux beams? not sure - either way lovely). We asked the girl who served us for some local bits to do and she was really helpful and pleasant. would definitely go back. Thanks!

Pleasant meal with family for a pit stop before returning to our accommodation. Slightly old fashioned inside compared to city restaurants etc but had a nice atmosphere. Reasonably priced for nice decent sized portions! Will visit again as granny liked here!

We ate here twice during our visit to Dornoch. The first time I had a toasted cheese and ham sandwich which was very good. The second time I had a B-L-T, which was excellent. My Dad had soup the first day and a toastie the second day, just plain cheese.Very reasonable pricing, very good value. The service was excellent both times. The restaurant is upstairs, and you get a nice view from the top floor of downtown Dornoch. They also have free parking, with a large lot to the side of the place. It is in a very convenient location. Just a short block from the center of town, and close to the Dornoch jail, and Castle Hotel.

nipped in for lunch....place was nearly empty and the lady serving was miserable and hardly spoke! I felt the food was overpriced for what I had and the tomato soup was the most awful soup ive eaten! Maybe this was just a bad day as most locals like this place?? I dont think I'd go back.

My wife and I stopped off here for lunch while on holiday. What a mistake that turned out to be. We had to sit downstairs in the bar as there was no disabled access to the restaurant upstairs. My wife ordered, what was described as, homemade spicy chicken curry and I had the steak and ale pie. Firstly, my wife described her curry as a tin of tomatoes with tomato puree and some overcooked 2 day old chicken. The rice was microwaved and the chips were frozen and half cooked. To top it all off, everything was lukewarm. I fared ever so slightly better. The steak pie was actually a steak pie, although it would have been more appropriate to use a jack hammer than a knife and fork to cut the beef. So, if you ever happen to be driving through Dornoch and fancy a bit of lunch, be sure to avoid this place as their chef is useless.

Passed through Dornoch and thought I would like to eat here some time - was back this way with my fiancé and I suggested we go in for lunch - like a step back to the 70's, décor, carpet, curtains, it smelt like an old folks home, complete with dead flies in the windowsills - should have just had our drinks and left but gave it a chance. Was really not impressed with the food, I only had a jacket potato with curry which arrived with a limp small side salad and it was all put on what looked like a side plate?? My fiancé had the cheeseburger which looked like the cheapest frozen burger money could buy! Listened to the waitress say to table beside that they only ever get bad reviews on trip advisor Ha maybe she should read them and try and improve what could be a wee gold mine.

Ok so this review is based on the standard of fried food we had. So as far as that goes it was good. Fish in batter was excellent, although chips just standard frozen kind. Scampi was also fine and portions were pretty good. All in all not a very exciting menu and we did order in the pub as oppose to the restaurant upstairs. The service was ok but not overly friendly. We were not able to use a card and no explaination given as to why not.. Just as well we did have cash on us but would have been nice to be told this before we ordered.

Had a meal in here last night with 2 friends... Was a bit dubious at first as i recalled the Dornoch inn as not the most salubrious of establishments but I was very pleasantly surprised, the food was lovely, superb sized portion not overly fancified stuff that leaves you still hungry in search of local chippy later but really good down to earth food, well presented, piping hot I had the haggis which I highly recommend.waiter was attentive and friendly and the lovely sound of the Dornoch pipe playing in the square made it a very enjoyable evening ..good food..good prices ..definitely ONE UP from others I've been to.

The place needs a good deep clean and referb The biggest put off is your kitchen staff smoking outside put me right off my food. Will never return I'm afraid.

Visited Dornoch between 29th April 2013 and 3rd May 2013, was looking forward to our meals in the Dornoch One Up Restaurant but the place was closed; this was 6 o'clockish. We could have eaten in the Dornoch Inn on the ground floor as they share the same Kitchen but didn't want to eat with a customer's 'Staffie'.Shame, so we found somewhere else to eat.We did notice that that Restaurant was open one lunch time, obviosly for the coach parties that turned up.

Not much atmosphere, the music in the bar was being played so loud we could barely think. Very basic menu, although it is quite reasonably priced. Dont expect any thrills, no salad dressing a few chips. Food wasn't terrible just basic, but you get what you pay for I guess. Service almost non-existent. Ask to eat upstairs, not in the bar.

Basically as the title says, the staff are friendly (don't change the chef!), plentiful food and not over priced. We dined there 2 evenings last week, macaroni cheese, haggis one night, thought there wasn't as much haggis as a couple of years ago BUT still more on the plate than most restaurants; both had haddock and chips the second evening, didn't know you could get battered whale! A large piece of fresh haddock, not a frozen fillet, in the chefs own batter. Ask to try the carrot and coconut soup if it is on the menu, lovely, my partner liked it so much she asked for the recipe! We always eat early evening when the restaurant is empty or nearly empty, but the service hasn't faltered even when we were in there when a golf party were eating.

We ate here on a Saturday evening, and on Saturdays the bagpipes are played in the square, so we ate our haggis in very authentic surroundings. Don't expect haute cuisine, but we were very happy with our meal and enjoyed the lively atmosphere and friendly service. The owners also run the nearby Woodlands B&B and give a discount for guests who eat at the One Up (which is the first floor of the Dornoch Inn). The B&B is excellent value, spotlessly clean and very quiet and comfortable. The breakfast is nothing out of the ordinary but a very acceptable start to the day and we were very content.

No food on offer other than crisps, ice cream and a meagre offering of cake, shocked as we were there for a 1pm show and had travelled over an hour thinking we would be fine for lunch at the theatre. Staff were fine, no hint of getting things done in a timely fashion and not much interaction with customers. Decor is depressing, such a big space makes it cold and echoey. Just no atmosphere whatsoever. Very disappointed and won't be back.

We stayed at this Inn/Hotel at the beginning of November, returning home we received an email asking us to review our stay. This we did by email, however, we did not receive a reply nor did we receive a reply to our follow up copy email, which I now type below. "Many thanks for your email, usually we send a report good or bad to Tripadvisor, as you have asked for feedback I am happy to share our thoughts with you initially. I have an email from you confirming our reservation from the 4th to the 8th November, 2024 in a Garden Room. This was because we have a dog and thought this would be an easier option should she need to go outside. When we arrived we had NOT been booked into a Garden Room for our five nights, as per your confirmation. We were offered a garden room for 3 nights and two other nights elsewhere within the hotel. I really did not feel changing rooms, packing and unpacking for two nights was a good idea, so we opted to stay again in Room 111 for the five night stay. I am sure you will agree, this was not a good start to our holiday. I spoke to another couple who had also booked a garden room only to find they too had been misallocated a room and these long established customers were very upset and vowed not to return next year for their 8th year. I feel it necessary to draw to your attention the lack of servicing for Room 111. Each day our duvet was "just turned over at the top", the bottom sheet was not straightened and the pillows were as we had arisen, not even straightened and aligned. The cleanliness in the bathroom left much to be desired. As I am sure you are aware there is no toilet brush next to the lavatory. The toilet was not cleaned throughout our stay and the bowl after five nights was turning a light shade of brown, however, diligent attention was paid to folding and making the spare toilet roll and the one for use look pretty. I would have preferred a clean toilet. This takes me on to the bath. On arrival there was a single long dark hair in the bath, as we did not use the bath and both have grey hair, this was still there when we left!! The shower doors require a thorough clean and polish, there is black mould on the wall and around the base of the shower. During our stay this was NOT cleaned at all. Mould and Mildew spray with a toothbrush would solve this problem. Likewise the wash hand basin was neglected. No dusting or vacuuming was carried out in the room for the duration of our stay. For your information I left a piece of cotton and a clean tissue on the floor and they were not picked up. When we had dinner in the bar area dogs were quite welcome. However, in the morning we did feel rather like second class citizens as we were with other dog owners required to use the alternative dining room, which was uninviting and a long way from the self-service area in the breakfast room. On two days for breakfast we were along with four other owners with dogs, allowed to use the breakfast room. No explanation was given for the flexible rule. To end on a good note, the staff were pleasant and helpful, always willing to assist in anyway they could. It is with interest I await your response. " On our next trip to Scotland we shall stay elsewhere.
