Fantastic food and service Suspect the buffet breakfast is bring down the scores of a brilliant evening restaurant which appears at the same venue in the evening Seriously lovely food, nouvelle cuisine portion sizes but seriously food prep; taste; and quality Extremely impressed by a in-house hotel restaurant being this good

The food preparation is very poor. We ordered a Caesar salad and Macaroni and Cheese. The Caesar was just greens and bacon bits. The Macaroni and Cheese was burnt macaroni and horribly poor quality cheese. Think twice before eating here.

Aspects restaurant is the only restaurant open as part of the Macdonald aviemore resort at this time of year. We were guests at the hotel and dined on a fairly quiet Thursday evening. As other guests have mentioned the theme of the restaurant is perhaps a bit dated with classical music playing in the background, however, I think this feel is mainly due to the fact that this is a huge restaurant in off season. The restaurant has a formal feel, you could dress up for dinner but it didnt seem essential, just smart casual seemed fine too. Dining as a family with a young toddler was no problem and we did not feel out of place, comfortable high chairs provided upon arrival. The service was impeccable, staff formal and attentative. The prices for the restaurant if not on a package are on par with the other offerings in aviemore, but I found the food very high quality, better than other restaurants are selling in the area. The food was outstanding. We were truly surprised by the quality of the dishes. The terrine starter and the lentil soup were delicious. The beef cheek was outstanding, very memorable, I highly recommend it to other guests. The battered haddock was freshly prepared, lovely peice of fish with good flavour. Everything well seasoned out of the kitchen. The kids pasta was actually prepared with a bit of love from the chef, it was a creamy pasta with marscapone cream throughout, it too was very tasty. Very thoughtful chef and team working here, look forward to visiting again. Thank you!

I wasn’t expecting much after reading some of the reviews on here. However we were delighted to be surprised and had an amazing meal. We had the goats cheese and ham terrine to start which were delicious. We both had the garlic chicken which was up there with some of the best chicken I have eaten. The staff were pleasant and attentive. Absolutely no faults and if we hasn’t booked elsewhere for the e second night we would have considered going back again. The prices were to us just normal hotel prices…..no more expensive than other similar hotels. We will definitely come back here to stay and eat again.

Good service and atmosphere at the restaurant. The restaurant is inside the Highlands hotel. They have “ a la carte” menu . If you are staying at the hotel and have paid the service of half board ( breakfast and dinner) then you are given £25 allowance to spend at the restaurant and you need to pay the difference. The customer service at breakfast is slightly different. At 9.00 it starts getting really busy and there is insufficient staff to service the customer’s needs

We stayed in the Morlich Hotel but chose to have dinner in the Aspects restaurant. We couldn't get a table until 2030. Had a wine in the bar. Way overpriced. As we entered the restaurant it was nearly empty, no atmosphere. My wife had a steak and I had lamb. Hard pushed to find the lamb on the plate. However when I did find it, very well cooked. Again the wine was too expensive at over £31 a bottle.

We were looking forward to eating at Aspects as we had been around 2 years ago and were impressed with it. However, the cost of a dish is very high, I believe it is inflated to give the perception of a great value hotel and food package with Macdonald’s (with their £25 per person meal offer). Which in itself would be disappointing, but the portion sizes were incredibly small. We were told all the main dishes came with new potatoes (remember that’s the plural) unless it stated chips. We ordered the lamb, which came as a very tiny portion, and with one (yes one) new potato sliced in half, and minimal vegetables. It was the size of a starter, and at £28 this was daylight robbery. For the children there was a blanket cost of £12.50 for the buffet. This was for all children, no matter their age. Fair enough for bigger ones around 12 years old, but our 3 year old doesn’t eat much at all. She had a small portion of pasta, around 2 tablespoons, and a tablespoon of peas. For £12.50. Now you would have thought the quality of this would be amazing, well think again. The pasta was soggy and nearly cold, the peas were cold. Our other child had pizza which was dry and nearly cold. The children’s food really is terrible in quality and price. If you imagine picking the leftovers from a buffet after a party has finished you’ll understand the experience. For breakfast on the first day there were items missing, no plates or bowls for hot food or cereal, until we asked. When I asked if there were any more beans when the chef finally arrived I received a lecture about short staffing levels. We asked for a drink of tea for the table, on two separate occasions, it never arrived. On the second day, it was a slight improvement, although we noticed a few more staff working. We are still at the hotel and hoping it improves through the week if staffing levels are at a sensible level, given the cost of our stay we expect better service.

First of food was great when it eventually showed up very small portion for the price but was really nice for the small amount we had. Service was poor and very long wait 1 hour for a kids starter and 1.5 hours for adults mains. Our daughter was tired and cranky by this point witch the waiting staff couldn’t stand by the looks they gave. First night here let’s hope the rest of the stay is better.

Booking was easy and was offered multiple times to dine. On arrival for dinner the lady at the reception was somewhat abrupt. Orders were made. The waiters and waitresses were without fault. It’s now all downhill from an average start. This is a restaurant that boasts about fresh Scottish produce. Fresh seafood, local meat. I would seriously question that. I don’t mind paying a premium for fresh local produce, however, if it comes out a plastic container and that part of that plastic container is included in you starter I have questions. There was a large piece of plastic in the starter that was clearly a break off tab from a pot. The staff were apologetic and said that the food came from a plastic container. So not fresh local produce. If you want to claim this, then why not say where the seafood or meat has come from on the menu. Other restaurants in this region are proud to do so and support local fishermen and farmers. The high charges for your “locally sourced produce” remain. Main course was average at best. This is a restaurant that charges premium prices but the food does not reflect the this. Some complementary sides were given (chips and broccoli) due to the starter disaster The main course comes with vegetables so I now had chips and roast potatoes and extra broccoli. Deserts were very poor for the price. The cost of the starter was deducted from the bill. The waitresses and waiters are without fault The head of service, the catering team and the hotel management team need to take a good long hard look in the mirror if they want to charge the prices on the menu for what is delivered and what is advertised. The other restaurants on the hotel site offer much better value for money without the claims of being locally sourced. On summary you’d probably be better off going to a local restaurant than going to Aspects Restaurant.

On a very rainy Saturday night it was very difficult to find a restaurant and this was the only one with availability. Now we know why. Two of us had surf and turf which would normally come with king prawns but instead half a dozen frozen prawns. for the price we paid you don’t don’t expect this also coming with a tomato and one mushroom. The halibut was nice but the price the portion size was inadequate. The lamb dish after cutting away the fat wasn’t much there. The pavlova was well you can imagine. The chef needs to take lessons from the chef at the Uig hotel in Skye which was faultless.

Was staying in the MacDonald Aviemore Hotel with my partner and 1 year old and decided to book this restaurant for easiness on the first night of our stay. First impression was the decor was quite dated and the place lacked atmosphere, but we expected the food to be good as it had been in a previous stay at a MacDonald hotel. Seeing the prices on the menu also made us think the food must be amazing as it was very expensive. I ordered the surf and turf which was supposed to be a medium sirloin steak with garlic prawns, mushroom, tomato and chips. My partner ordered the beef wagu burger with coleslaw and chips. My steak came well done, didn’t appear to be sirloin and looked like a cheap nasty steak you would get at budget restaurant, so had to be sent back. The “surf” element consisted of 4 prawns with next to no seasoning or flavour. The “chips” were actually French fries and were soggy and tasteless. I also paid £5 for whiskey sauce which came in a small dish which was about 10% full. I asked for another one with more in it when my steak was sent back, but when the sauce eventually arrived 5 minutes after my steak, it barely had any in it again. My 2nd steak was a slight improvement, but still not nice. My partner’s burger wasn’t nice either and she only ate around half of it. My son’s flatbread pizza and chips meal consisted of 2 small slices of “pizza”, one of which was dry, crispy and had pretty much no base at all. The service was ok and they agreed to take the cost of the kid’s meal off our bill. However, for our two mains, one gin and mixer, one cocktail and bottle of water for the table, we were just shy of £100. Absolute daylight robbery - avoid at all costs!

The fish I ordered was delicious - really well battered and fried perfectly for me. The fries were a little ordinary. Unfortunately they didn’t have malt vinegar. My wife had gnocchi that was not so great, but the kids loved the prawn cocktail and the Mac-n-cheese. Service was friendly and helpful. The issue is really the atmosphere. Muzak droning on with a decor that was dated in the 80’s. It was all very depressing. Like the waiting room at funeral parlor.

Disgusting overpriced cold food! The restaurant was like eating in a children’s crèche - toddlers screaming and running up and down. We had gone for our last night meal and wish we hadn’t! The fish in tempura batter was soggy and swimming in oil - far nicer fish to be had at the happy haggis down the road. The grilled hake came swimming with a cream sauce that was not disclosed on the menu as an allergen making the meal inedible for me. Portions cold and small - ended up in aldi after dinner for sandwiches!

The Aspect Restaurant at the Aviemore Hotel. I booked a table for 2 for 19.00. On arrival there was a queue and we waited 20 minutes to be seated. While waiting could see at least 10 empty tables covered in dirty dishes and glasses. When we were eventually seated we were ‘tossed’ a menu. We were not asked if we wanted water or a drink. I eventually spotted a man in a suit clearing a table and I asked if he worked in our side of the restaurant as we had now been waiting 40 minutes still without a drink. He said he did sometimes. I explained our situation and he said he would get our drink order. My wife’s drink arrived after 5 minutes, my beer took another 10 minutes. We ordered food which arrived after 1 hour 10 minutes. There was no music playing and the atmosphere was so bad you could cut it with a knife. The staff seemed demoralised and not well trained if at all. The ‘manager’ offered us a free drink which was then charged to my bill. I can honestly say, I have eaten in hotels and restaurants all over the world and this has been my worst dining experience by far. I will never set foot in another MacDonalds Hotel. My wife and I ate the Apsects Restaurant recently and we had a really good dining experience. I bought a bottle of wine in the bar downstairs, and I asked if I could take it upstirs to the restaurant when our reservation time was due, this wasn't a problem. We sat in front of a nice warm fire in the bar sipping our wine until it was time to go up for our meal. We were very well served by some really friendly and professional staff, but the restaurant wasn't very busy as everyone was at the Christmas Party that's hosted for children every year. We shared a haggis starter which was very tasty. I then had the slow cooked beef shin, and my wife had the pork belly. Both were served with very nicely cooked fresh veg. Not a very COVID friendly restaurant as you have to queue at a buffet where you are served what you ask for, but no screen between the food and everyone eating there. That aside the food quality was poor. Cheap coffee, stale pastries, Orange juice made from concentrate and not even chilled. Toast was served cold. The cooked breakfast - the bacon was almost grey in colour and undercooked and was quite inedible. All this from what is supposably a 4 star hotel. Major cost cutting going on here and not to to have table service during COVID is a major health and safety issue.

I can only tell you what I found at this place. The menu we had looked really nice - and we foolishly decided to have nibbles first. 4 cheese straws (about 3 inches long) that were over cooked and tasteless and flatbread and dips. The flatbread looked like pizza bases and the dips were (the same mayo we had with the cheese straws) a small portion of green pesto and a big portion of hot sauce or tabasco. Imagination of the chef knows no bounds! Then to the starter - we both had mussels and having come from Auchrannie the day before we knew what a starter portion of mussels looked like. Or did we? At auchrannie they came in a small mussel pot and my wife said it was a massive starter. At Aspects if there were 20 mussels (they were crammed into a dish that was smaller than a soup bowl) then that would be generous. The price in both places was around £9. The menu said it came with grilled sourdough - it didnt it came with brown uninteresting bloomer. Despite a complaint and the bread being rebrought it was still not sourdough. So the main course was actually the only saving grace for the first night. Chicken Ballotine and haddock and Chips were perfectly cooked. But it gets worse....Second night I decided to try the haddock as my wife had said it was fantastic. Second night it wasnt - wet soggy batter, lukewarm chips and crushed peas that would had less taste than wallpaper paste. No one came to ask if our meal was OK and all we got was "Im so sorry" repeatedly. we were offered a dessert which we took: Just imagine this dish: spiced roast pineapple with coconut mousse and mango sorbet. A beautiful creation of yellow and white and orange. Yes? Nope! it was all orange. The pineapple consisted of half a dozen fragments of pineapple, covered in mango sauce so whether it was spiced or not no one could say. The coconut mousse was orange and full of lumps of something. Im delighted to say that the mango sorbet tasted OK although it was already melting by the time it arrived If I were the chef I'd be embarrassed by what was sent out of my kitchen and probably resign on the spot. The waiting staff were just OK but uncommunicative and some had very little english. Put it this way I could have done better

We had all our breakfasts here, despite Covid restrictions service was swift & efficient as well as mannerly. We also had an evening meal here on the Wednesday & Thursday evening. While we enjoyed what we had the portion sizes were almost laughable, 1 asparagus spear & prosciutto was what was served as a starter for my husband and my starter the evening before was smoked salmon with creme fraiche and decoration. I buy the same smoked salmon and know the price, what I was served was certainly tasty but from the packet I purchase I could have mad at least 3 starters for less than half what I was charged. Can't complain about taste or presentation, but portion size needs reviewed.

We went here tonight as part of a DBB deal, we were quickly seated and waiter took our order. My husband asked if they did Cairngorm Gold, to which the answer was ‘yes’, however 5 minutes later the waiter dropped off Cairngorm Wildcat, stating they didn’t have Gold after all. Fair enough we thought, he tried it and it tasted pretty much the same so it was kept. Starters arrived, I had mussels and my husband had Haggis Benedict, both absolutely delicious, compliments to the chef! Now it starts to go down hill. 45 minutes passed and no main course came, thankfully a waitress noticed we’d been sat for a while and came to ask what we’d ordered. She went to the kitchen and came back saying it would be 10-15 minutes, so obviously they forgot to cook it or the initial order hadn’t been sent to the kitchen. Not a big problem, mistakes happen. When they finally arrived, we asked for sauces and vinegar, which never came, so we had to ask for these a second time, though by this point we were half way through. Main courses tasted very good though! At pudding time, I asked the waitress what flavour sorbets there were. She said she’d go check the kitchen, and never returned to confirm. After 15 minutes of waiting we gave up and left the table. Drinks weren’t included with the dinner deal, so we went to the till area to pay. As it happened the restaurant manager was there so I put on my brave pants and for the first time in my life expressed my disappointment over the service, the delayed meals and the pudding which wasn’t meant to be, though did say that food that did come was good. Her response was ‘I’m very sorry about that, here’s your £12 drinks bill’. I would have felt a bit more content if these have been waived, but sadly not. I understand things are challenging having reopened for the first time since March, but I feel the errors of tonight can not be blamed on this. Overall, kitchen staff are great, waiting staff not so much.

We ate here on two nights as part of a DBB package as a family of two adults and two kids.Dinner on the first night was rump steak for me and confit duck for my wife. Whilst the steak was cooked to order, unfortunately it was lacking in taste. Either the quality of the meat or not seasoned well enough, I’m not sure. The onion rings were terrible - the batter was all soggy and it was falling apart, the mushroom was over salted. The thick cut chips were the best thing on the plate and the warmest too! My wife also said her duck was underwhelming and lukewarm. The second occasion we ate here we both decided on the burger as surely they’d get that right. They did and it was well cooked and flavoured. The picked cucumbers were laughable, essentially sliced salad cucumbers in some kind of picadilli sauce. Not gherkins which is what you’d expect.Kids meals were pretty sizeable portions but again, lacking in flavouring. Thankfully the breakfast here was tasty and good quality but dinner could be a lot better with just a little more seasoning and serving food at a higher temperature.Service was attentive and friendly.Giovanni’s restaurant where we ate for one of our nights was just across the road and a lot better.

Aspects was in the hotel where we were staying and we had a DBB deal so decided to stay in the building. It took a few moments to be shown to our table but this was only as other people had turned up at the same time as us. We were served quickly at our table Ava's well looked after by Tereza and Luis.Food was very well presented, tasty and decent prices. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening.Tables not crammed together, it didn't feel claustrophobic even though it was busy. All of the staff were very pleasant and eager to help, courses all served very quickly and food was hot. Would definitely be back

Breakfast - someone said in a comments before they are amazing hmmm don't think so this is just normal breakfast buffet. Dinner - My wife got fishcake and was delicious. My chicken with haggis was cold and in my opinion was under hot lamps far to long waiting for fishcake. Buffet for kids was just all right not great. Staff was trying do all the best for guests but you can notice no experience at all. Overall 3 🌟

The Aspects Restaurant has a very relaxed atmosphere, but in spite of the atmosphere, service is quick, discreet and efficient. The food is well presented, and well cooked. I had 'Blade of Beef' which was delicious, tender and filling. The children's buffet was well stocked and varied also. Prices are value for money!

We recently booked as a party of 15 to celebrate a Ruby Wedding anniversary. From start to finish it was a catalogue of errors. The waiters were pleasant enough but there was a language barrier. The food was grossly overpriced for the portions that were served. Eight of us had the mackerel starter and were astonished to see an inch square portion on top of a slaw of some kind. The scallops starter was no better, 2 small scallops with a slither of pork belly. The mains which followed were in the same vein, small portions served luke warm. We were all still hungry so we ordered desert. Incredibly, all the portions were huge in comparison! We had provided a cake decorated with Happy 40th Wedding Anniversary, and were bemused when the waiters brought it out singing “Happy Birthday!” It summed the whole evening up! The bill was incorrect with meals charged against the al a carte menu when several of us ordered from a set menu. After some fraught discussions we were given 20% of the bill. This is a 4 star hotel, however the overall impression was that this restaurant catered mainly for tourists therefore no concern about creating any sort of positive experience which would have customers returning. There was no visible leadership, and no atmosphere. In fact when we went to the bar at 1030, we were told it was shut! All in all a very disappointing and unacceptable experience on all levels. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

We ate here a few years back and it was great. On this occasion staff were good and reacted well to our problems. We had a main course and a sweet. It took 45 minutes to deliver our main course. I told one of the waiters after 35 minutes who went to find out what the problem was. His reason wasn’t very helpful but he obviously was repeating what he was told. He gave me a large glass of Merlot as a ‘sorry’. My wife was drinking water so she didn’t get anything. My steak was barely warm and my wife’s cheese soufflé was like dry sawdust. They didn’t charge us for my wife’s main course and they offered another main instead, but because of the time it took for the first one we declined. We were going to eat there on the next evening but decided not to. McDonalds Hotels were always well known for their food but I think we’ll think twice next time we choose a Hotel in the UK.

Being a 4star hotel I suppose there’s a expectation that the food and service will be special, sadly the Aspects didn’t live up to that.Staff are ok nothing special, quite a good size restaurant but annoyingly we arrived in first and we were placed into our own booth, 10mins later we were surrounded by other customers, it’s really irritating they don’t spread the customers out a little, 80% of the restaurant was empty and we were all bundled in beside each other. We had DBB included so we could order £25 per adult and kids eat free.Kids can order 3courses which is good value. The adult portions are overpriced and to be truthful quite underwhelming. We both ordered Scallops with Pork belly, Scallops were over cooked with zero seasoning and the pork belly was cooked to a crisp, 2 Scallops and a dry piece of Pork belly for £12.50 REALLY?!Main course was the pot roasted Chicken, it was fine but lacked flavour.Creme Brûlée was probably more like custard with a hard shell, still tasty though.Don’t bother taking a buggy with you as access to the Aspects restaurant with a buggy or wheel chair is pathetic, you are required to go INTO the main hotel through about 4 doors and squeeze into possibly the worlds smallest lift then walk back round and you are confronted with 4steps you need to lift the buggy or call reception and get them to come and operate a silly wheelchair ramp.Quite demeaning for someone in a wheelchair.Anyway, in conclusion we have visited many hotel/restaurant combos around the World but I’m we were left slightly underwhelmed all round by this restaurant, that all being said we only paid £14 extra for dinner to be added so we did have a very cheap dinner and don’t get me wrong it’s better than what we would have had at home.

Used the restaurant for dinner and breakfast the following morning.Dinner was a better experience than breakfast.Dinner. Helpful staff, good menu and service to the table was fine. Food was hot, fine and wasn’t expensive. Breakfast. 5/6 minute wait until someone arrived to take us to a table (wasn’t busy, two tables taken at that point). No advice on whether it was buffet or table service. Breakfast had a good choice of cereals, fruit, hot dishes and juices. The 10\11 minute wait until the Chef appeared to man his station was deplorable. Especially when he offered no apology and couldn’t have been more rude. Clearly we were disturbing him by asking for something hot (a single poached egg) for breakfast. Advised the serving staff and while they were sympathetic it was clear the Chef had form in this area and best to ignore. So disappointing for a MacDonalds hotel to find that acceptable.I would consider other options seriously in Aviemore before going back to Aspects.

Go to Wetherspoon's instead... Popped in here for lunch, but really wish we had gone elsewhere. We had a chicken burger, and a pulled pork and BBQ beef burger, and both of them weren't great. The chicken burger tasted cheap and heavily processed, and the beef burger was the same. It was also pretty dry and tough, and was missing the BBQ sauce. Both of us actually left a good chunk of our burgers and just ate the chips instead. We spent £56 pound, and the bill came with a service charge included, which felt like a bit of a slap in the face considering the food was bad and the service was non-existent apart from "here's your table, here's your food, here's your bill". I'd honestly recommend going to Wetherspoon's instead of this place if you want food. The food is about the same quality, but half the price. And the service was actually better in Wetherspoon's as well!

We all had Sunday lunch (£22), service was good and waitress was friendly. However the Roast dinner was lukewarm, the beef was far from tender and the Yorkshire pud was clearly reheated and very greasy. The bar wasn’t able to provide many of the beers/lagers on tap. Altogether a very disappointing visit. We were here last year and I still remember The Venison I had. Clearly new management/chef. Definitely give it a miss.

No food on offer other than crisps, ice cream and a meagre offering of cake, shocked as we were there for a 1pm show and had travelled over an hour thinking we would be fine for lunch at the theatre. Staff were fine, no hint of getting things done in a timely fashion and not much interaction with customers. Decor is depressing, such a big space makes it cold and echoey. Just no atmosphere whatsoever. Very disappointed and won't be back.
