Stunning view and friendly, efficient staff in a small family-run hotel. The quality of food was excellent, but fully grown humans may wish to order two main courses each, such was the rather miserly amount of actual food - scallops and monkfish respective.y - on our plates. Top marks for presentation and taste, but would have loved a little more.

This is the restaurant of a 4-star hotel in Stornoway. It has a distinct, modern and elegant feeling (although a bit “cold”). Its menu combines traditional and modern dishes. Service is good but a little slow. For starter, we tried the spare ribs with coleslaw salad, which was just good. For main my wife ordered the “braised feather blade of beef" which was really a very interesting taste and I tried the "Seared salmon Caesar salad" a rich and healthy dish which contained anchovies (unfortunately, a LOT of them) which I don't like (I didn't notice it in the dish description). Prices were not cheap, but were comparable with other restaurants' in (expensive) Stornoway.

We ate twice at Scarista House Restaurant during our recent trip to Harris. We have dined here before on previous visits over the last 20 years and this year it was better than ever. Beautifully prepared local food. First menu - Twice baked cheese soufflé, followed by Stornoway landed hake in a delicious sauce and some delicious vegetables. and then a chocolate roulade!. Second menu - goats cheese, courgette and cheese raviol with a nettle pesto (amazing!) followed by local hand dived scallops and the most delicious lemon tart with excellent pastry, lemon verbena ice cream and a strawberry and pink peppercorn coulis. Fabulous! Highly recommend the cooking here! An absolute delight!

We visited today for some lunch. The food menu was varied and reasonably priced. The drinks cabinet had only a small selection but we all found something we wanted. The staff member on the till was lovely. There was quite a wait on food but I felt it was worth it as everything was lovely and hot and as far as I could tell it was made to order. We are deducting one star for cutlery not being readily available (it was busy so it was understandable)

We arrived here just after the kitchen had closed, but they very kindly made us some sandwiches; these came with salad and were very good. The young lady who took the order was very pleasant and friendly, as was the lady in the gift shop next door; they all seem to multi-task and have a positive attitude to visitors (by no means the case everywhere!) The café is housed in a dramatic stone building which is in keeping with the environment. Seating is on two levels. I imagine it could get crowded when coach parties are in?

The visitor centre is just past the Standing Stones and has an excellent gift shop and cafe. After visiting the stones, we decided to have lunch here and pick up some more information and gifts. The gift shop is well laid out with a variety of quality items and the staff were incredibly helpful in answering our questions. The cafe is sunny and bright and there is a good selection of food available from 9:00am until 4:00pm. The Visitor Centre and Cafe are closed on Sundays
