Vatersay Community Hall Cafe in Eilean Siar

Ate lunch here severally times when visiting Vatersay beach. Soup and various cakes need a special mention. Staff really friendly.

We were very pleasantly surprised to come across the cafe in such a remote area, considering how few there are on the islands. It was really nice - had a large pot of tea with hot water provided and the cakes were out of this world. Tables outside with amazing views.

A lovely cafe with gorgeous cakes. They also had some gluten free options but not as many as usual as they were soon to be closing for the season. A lovely stop after our cycle from Castlebay.

Lovely community cafe with tea, coffee and cakes as well as light lunches. We went twice in beautiful sun and terrible rain and it was perfect both times. There is also a public toilet on site and the beach is very close by. The hours online were not obvious by the two occasions we went it seemed to be open from about 11 until the afternoon.

Visited for lunch when out cycling. Wow so glad we did. Staff very friendly. Enjoyed some tasty panini’s with chips and cheese but the best part was the home made cakes. Generous portions and good value for money. Busy wee place but service was quick and efficient and very welcoming. The beach across the way also lovely for a walk or swim.

A lovely spot for a cafe; 5 of us went for lunch before a beach walk: delicious soup with generous portions of chips on the side, followed by good quality coffee. Very friendly and reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend.

A very pleasant experience. We were served very quickly and a large choice of cakes. There was also a gluten-free option for me, a hearty fruit flapjack. After that, my wife went for a swim at the buttock beach just opposite. Great place to enjoy with the whole family!

So good we went twice! First time for cooked lunch. Not a huge range, but a lot of gluten-free options and big portions. Second time was to try the amazing cakes. Looks like they always have at least a couple of GF options (my wife LOVED 😍 the GF lemon drizzle cake). Great views and a good location from which to explore Vatersay.

We went for cakes and drinks after a walk on the beaches. The service was friendly. The cakes were delicious. There were hot food options which looked good although we didn't try.

Such a great location and a really good choice of options. The team work non/ stop but take time on each order to ensure everything is top notch and they do s fantastic job. Such s brilliant facility and we went a couple of times during our stay. Thank you very much

Great wee spot. Stopped off on our visit to the beach and it was busy. Staff were pushed but were very pleasant. We had soup and sandwich with a piece of the wonderful home baking. Soup was excellent and sandwich was very fresh and tasty. Well worth a visit.

They forget to mention that they charge £10 to park on a public road (no where else to park) and some all in wrestler will turn up in his 4x4 to threaten you if you do not cough up. Also no warning signs about this upon entry. Legalised robbery ! Surely the islander can find a better way of making a living?

Wenn man der Straße folgt, denkt man nicht, dass überhaupt noch irgendwas kommt, aber zwischen zwei traumhaften Stränden, in traumhafter Umgebung, findet man die tolle Location… Wetter war super, supernettes Personal und wirklich leckere Kuchen, zu moderaten Preisen.. A must visit when at Vatersay, can't miss it, really. It is by the East beach (perfect for swimming), with shower/toilet facilities. Cafe has lovely cakes/coffees. However, as they don't have mobile signal or broadband, it is cash only. (Cash machine in Castlebay was broken, but you can withdraw money from RBS and Post Office)

A lovely welcoming cafe with great food, outside and inside seating areas and heavenly views. Don't leave it too late, it shuts quite early in afternoon. I had a huge slice of malteser traybake...YUMMM

After an exhilerating windy walk on the stunning beach this cafe on the hill is a real gem, Friendly staff.

This was a welcome sight after doing to loop walk of vatersay island. Lots of lunch choices and cake selection is great but what really impressed was the coffee! All three of us in my party had a latte and they did not disappoint. Really good coffee! Staff were really friendly and had a good chat with them. Tried the chocolate and orange cake and impressed with the portion size and the orange filling in the cake was delicious. Toilets very clean Worth noting the toilets attached to the building that are the public toilets are actually open before the cafe which was a godsend for us as we got the early bus from Barra and were there just after ten am and were able to use the facilities before we headed off on our walk. Will definitely visit again if back on the island

A very welcome refreshment place in this absolutely beautiful island. We visited twice, first for coffee & cake (delicious chocolate & orange) then for tea and a sandwich.

The place was recommended so wanted to try it as we we’re visiting the island. It provided lovely light meals and wonderful cake. It sits between to beaches, both beautiful. One for swimming on the quiet side and one for surfing on the wild side....

Delightful. Housed in a sympathetically- designed, modern building in a beautiful location close to the beach. Friendly and efficient service. Go - if only for the cakes.

This cafe is next to a small peninsula with beautiful beaches on either side. Cakes and soups very tasty indeed. Definitely recommend coming to Vatersay and to this cafe.

This little cafe, part of the village hall, is great for a range of drinks and snacks. Staff are really friendly and service reasonably quick. Toasties are very nice. Recommended

We called in for lunch and the cafe was very busy. Despite this the helpful and cheerful staff quickly took our order for soup and a sandwich. When the food came it was delicious. Will visit again when we come back.

We'd hired bikes and cycled to vatersay. After spending hours on the beach we headed to the hall to use the toilets, extremely clean, and get a coffee and cake. Staff were very friendly and the cake was delicious. They also serve soup and sandwiches....

A popular place for a cup of tea and light snacks. Friendly staff, willing to help and efficient. I found ther other public facilities available were of a good standard.

What a friendly place, with great coffee and cakes.Good car park, easy access and nice decor. Nice toilets and an amazing find on such a small island. We’ll frequented by cyclists and walkers. Staff were so helpful with information on the site of the Shipwreck of the Annie Jane in 1853 (viewing point about 10/15 mins walk from the cafe); the WWII crash site of the Catalina aeroplane on 12 May 1944 (wreckage still there to see with a Memorial to those on the plane, about a few mins from the cafe); and the start point of the Hebridean Way (in the village of Vatersay). Vatersay had so much to offer and amazing beaches.

Spicy tomato soup and ham sandwiches followed by a piece of one of 6 cakes on offer. Everything was home made and served with a smile. Vatersay may be at the bottom end of The Hebrides but this is top quality.And then you've got the chance to walk along crystal white beaches and a clear, green sea.

We stopped at the cafe for tea and cake and what a choice we had, at least six different freshly made cakes and nice lunch items available too. Lovely service and very welcoming.

Amazing to have a facility like this in such a remote area. It is very popular with walkers and cyclists completing the Hebridean Way. In bad weather it must be a great boon.

Great to see the community hall open and serving. On a blustery damp day it was packed. The staff were friendly, the coffee was good, just what we needed.

Stopped here for coffee and cake. Cakes are excellent and were disappearing fast. Had a lovely large cafetière of coffee to share too. Other guests were enjoying some of the other food on the menu and it all looked great.

There can’t be many places in the world where you can sit and eat lonely cake and drink great coffee while taking in a view as good as this. As with everyone we spoke to on Barra and Vatersay the staff were very friendly.

On holiday on Barra and took a drive to Vatersay cafe for lunch. Nice friendly staff serving good home made soup and sandwiches. Cakes are all home baked. Give it a try, the views are outstanding. Plenty parking also.

We were heading to the beach when we came across this little gem. It's a community venture and deserves support. I had a toastie and coffee whilst my daughter had a morning roll and a pot of tea, the food was delicious and priced reasonably. The service was warm and friendly. There was clean toilets inside and also facilities outside which my daughter took advantage of after a dip in the sea. I can imagine the the cafe will get very busy in summer but this should not put you off a visit. The beaches are both stunning as is the surrounding area, worth getting your walking shoes on for. Nearly forgot we got cake to takeaway, baked locally, very tasty.

Sheltered from wind and threatening weather enjoying a good cup of tea and the most generous slices of beautiful tasty cake imaginable. Oh and all for a modest price... So go on - detour across the causeway from Barra to Vatersay.

This is a 'must' stopping place whether waking or cycling the Hebridean Way. Beautiful cake, lovely coffee and unbeatable location.

Lovely find - we visited Vatersay, expecting just to find the beach and a few points of interest. After a bracing walk on the beach in the high winds, it was lovely to step inside the community cafe and enjoy coffee and homemade cake. The 'Toddy Tart' is a lovely local desert made with raisins and whiskey and went down a treat! Reasonable prices and beautiful views out to sea. Just as we were leaving, local ladies arrived with more home-made cakes which all looked delicious! No supermarket brands here!

After a strenuous walk covering all three beaches on Vatersay, what more welcome sight than Vatersay Community Hall Cafe! The soup was home made, plentiful and excellent. The sandwiches were fresh and tasty, and the cake (coffee and walnut, Victoria sponge, lemon sponge) was mouthwatering and delicious, washed down with a nice pot of tea or coffee! OK, now feel able to tackle the ascent of Heaval!

Popped in to vatersay community hall cafe for a quick tea and juice before hitting the walking trail. My aunt got a scone and pot of tea, all which was brought to the table by the lovely lady behind the counter. My aunt described the scone as "the best scone i've had in a long time".

A must for lunch and home baking. Great place to stop for a bite to eat before exploring the island. Recommend the cakes!

As if Vatersay beach wasn't enough the community hall now has a cafe. Fresh baking, soup, bacon rolls are all on offer. Great value for money. Friendly staff

Vatersay is right at the southern end of the Outer Hebrides. It's a stunning place and on a good day the beach nearby is fantastic. The cafe was friendly with great homemade cakes and good coffee. The toilets and facilities were very good. Well worth calling in and supporting the local community.

The location of this cafe is stunning, a sheltered beach across the road, and a long one open to the Atlantic a few hundred metres through the Machair, both of the whitest sand. A simple cafe menu, made exceptional by some great home baking, we kept returning for takeaway cake even if not eating in. Very friendly staff, run by and for the community at surprisingly low prices, 2 teas and two huge wedges of cake for £7.50.

Although a basic menu, this was a lovely cafe to sit and have a bowl of soup. The staff were welcoming and friendly.

Friendly welcome, delicious Americano, free use of wifi and the best coffee cake ever. An absolutely unreal location across from a really beautiful beach - my new dream is to work in this place! The staff kindly let me charge my phone here, too!

Just before closing after a glorious day on Vatersay beach we quickly stopped by for a drink and received the warmest of welcomes. The coffee was delicious and the cakes, looked beautifully homemade and oh so tempting. The hall setting is stunning, next to two glorious beaches and the new improved café and hall now has picture doors to the machair with picnic tables.

We were delighted with this place, just the thing after camping on the beach at the start of the Hebridean way. Delicious home made cakes, showers, lovely staff.

The cafe unfortunately wasn't open yet when we made our last trip here! Looking forward to next trip up though. Will be lovely to sit outside with my dog Daisy and have a nice coffee after a walk along one of my favourite beaches in the world!

Run by local community in a lovely new building and doing fabulous home cooked food for really good value. Next to our favourite beach and no need to take a picnic when food is this good with fab views.

This cafe is ideally situated on Vatersay next to the beach. You can park for free and explore both beaches and surrounding areas and then drop in for a bite to eat. Menu is varied and the food is fine. The girls work very hard and are very friendly. There isn't much space inside but they have outdoor seating too. Clean and cheerful.

Visited the cafe after a walk around Vatersay and from thence back to Castlebay. Very friendly welcome and good home cooked food.Nothing fancy - just good simple cafe fare...and very good value for money. If you're walking on Vatersay's glorious beaches this is the place...

Great system half a cafe and the other half two shower rooms right close to the two beaches on vatersay Wild camp close to one of the beaches then go back in the morning gave your breakfast at the cafe and support the community

Algunos lugares estupendos para comer en opciones en el menú barra y muy buena relación calidad-precio, muy concurrido lugar, que es un signo seguro de su buena.

Vinimos aquí durante un discutía de lluvias torrenciales y la izquierda en el sol con bebidas espirituosas. Aunque el café es muy escaso, es muy agradable y justo lo que necesitas en una isla diminuta! Teníamos una increíble sopa de lentejas y realmente refrescante café para ponernos en camino! :)

Es bueno ver que hay inversión en esta instalación. Pero me decepcionó encontrar cerrada. Espero que una vez que el registro se reabrirá.

Visited the hall last week 31/05/16 and it appears that extensive building work is being carried out on the hall, and the cafe / toilets etc do not appear to be open.

After a few hours on Vatersay walking the beaches and exploring the seashore, I stopped here for a welcomed coffee break. The people were warm and friendly, and the selection of food was homemade and fresh. This is the only option on Vatersay, and it's a good one.

Always a bit odd sitting in a village hall, but good snack lunch; toasties and soup were excellent, with a salad. Generous portion of tea/coffee too. handy if you are waiting for the bus back to Castlebay

Had tea here after a walk along the beautiful beaches. Tea and cakes were served in a corner of the hall and it was quite busy – Saturday afternoon. Neither the baking nor the service was particularly special that day, but they presumably vary with the volunteers and we enjoyed the experience. Quite limited parking space but there are plans to increase it

Having had a hard cycle over from Barra, we were delighted that the cafe opened early to serve us delicious lemon drizzle cake, shortbread and cafetiere coffee. It doesn't look much from the outside, but the welcome and service was excellent. We sat outside and watched the world go by then visited the beach, which was lovely.

Dropped in here for coffee and cake and found the whole experience very good. Friendly, welcoming local people a great cup of coffee and cakes, and wished I could have stayed longer. Vatersay is well worth coming across the causeway for!

I visited on 2 June, the day after it had opened for the summer. The weather was damp at the time so it was an oasis as there is no alternative on Vatersay. Serves soup, hot drinks and cakes. I believe it is due to have some refurbishment work carried out from mid-July so may not be open from then for a good few weeks - worth checking.

This cafe is based in Vatersay Hall and has a small car park and toilets. If full there is room opposite for a few cars. The setting is perfect in summer next to the beach. Staff are fantastic very helpful and welcoming . Home baking and hot/cold drinks are excellent with a few small local gifts available to browse. The hall is roomy and is a great place to relax with some light refreshments . Overall you will not find anywhere better a anywhere

This is the islands community hall which enterprisingly is open for snacks during the summer, the only such place on the island of Vatersey. Here are the only toilets on the island. The occasional local bus from Castlebay stops outside. For the more energetic its a 5 mile walk from Castlebay.Food is made to order, we had Panini, cake tea & coffee, delicious, refreshed for us the walk back.Opening times approx.11 until 4.This seems to be the first ever review on trip advisor.
