Stopped for a cuppa (and cake) which was fresh and delicious. We were made so welcome, we ended up staying a while for a chat with the lady who served us and two other local ladies.

We were wanting some refreshments and this place was the only place open that we could find in mid October. The lovely lady, who was working on her own, was so helpful and had time for a chat, she told us about her day and the whole place was so unrushed. We had nice cake and a nice coffee at a very reasonable price.

We would love to have eaten here, as our ferry was cancelled due to high winds and were struggling to find anywhere to eat. However, when we arrived we were greated by a woman waving her arms telling us they were closed. We promptly left and drove further up the road to turn round; on our way back we saw 3 cars there with people eating.......

Came across this hidden gem when driving around Harris. It was great to support the local community centre and we really enjoyed the delicious cakes and toasties. We sat outside and watched the seals and enjoyed listening to a visiting piper who got everyone up dancing... The two ladies provided an exceptional service and spoke to us about their time on the island. Definitely recommend visiting the Bays Centre. Great to see a community cafe doing so well. We will definitely be back.

We were led to believe otherwise but were rather disappointed with the food on offer. The soup did not taste homemade and was extremely watery. The chocolate cake also looked commercially produced. We would not return.

We were on a drive and desperate for a cup of tea when we came across this delightful cafe. We treated ourselves to a scone whilst there with our tea and it was fantastic. There were benches outside so we could enjoy the sunshine and the prices were very cheap. Really enjoyed our visit!

We only had coffe and cakes, but the cakes were superb. Jessie served us and she did all the baking herself. Well worth a visit just for the baking.

We stopped here for a bite while meandering around Harris. The toasties were delicious, the scones very nice and the tea good. Service is attentive but this is a community centre, where you're welcomed as a guest, not catered to like a customer.

Fell upon the Bays Centre and met with a warm welcome. Lovely, simple but tasty fare. I liked the fact it was all home made and that there was also some local craftwork for sale - thank you!

Lovely cafe in community centre run by locals. Great stop off on the beautiful (but very windy!) “golden road” around the East coast of Harris. Staff are friendly and welcoming, and the home made cakes are excellent. I believe they also do Home made soup as well, and other light lunch options.

To be truthful I can't review the food from this cafe. We did try and visit but were met by some indignant locals who simply said "We are closed its a private function" 0It would have been helpful if they could have put a sign at the main road saying this was the case before we'd driven down there to visit. Don't think Tourism Scotland would be too impressed with their attitude!

This community cafe run by volunteers has a limited menu but their scones, cakes, sandwiches and toasties were very welcome. The service was excellent and the views from the windows (and outside) were fantastic. We enjoyed our first visit so much that we made sure our next day route ended back here for afternoon refreshments. Very reasonable prices and friendly staff.

Just like a visit to Granny's for tea. Freshly made everything, served with a smile and a bit of chatty chat. Nothing posh, just soup, sandwiches and cake with tea or coffee.

Driving down the amazing and slow Golden Road we saw the sign for Bays Cafe just as we were needing refreshments. Jessie and the rest of the team may not have any Michelin Stars yet but we received a warm welcome on entering the Bays Centre and her excellent soup, toasties, scones and coffee were exactly what was required for us to be completely refreshed to complete the drive down the Golden Road. Highly recommended refreshment stop.

Really surprised at this place. While wandering around, very far off the beaten track, we ran into this cool little community center. Every one was local, and warm and inviting. The food was plentiful and good, though a very limited and simple menu everything was fresh and delicious. The locally homemade desserts are well worth sampling, and there is some beautiful local driving and scenery in the area. The staff were super nice and friendly, very worth the time to see such a local jem.

Enjoy wonderful hospitality and scrumptious home made cakes in this community cafe one of the most amazing routes around this Isle. The land and seascapes are enthralling. Ride is like a rollercoaster! The welcome from staff was truly lovely and a bit of chat went down well with the simple oatcakes and cheese that I had along with the cake my husband enjoyed. A very special place.

Out on the golden road, The Bays Centre cafe is a welcome oasis. It is a very unpreposessing community centre where Jessie (and this year Rebecca) operate a cafe serving lunch and afternoon tea (open 12 to 4ish). A good Harris welcome awaits you and Jessie's world famous (well they should be) cakes simply beg to be eaten. Happiness pervades the atmosphere and a fine views adds to the pleasure of simply being there. If you want white table linen, don't visit but, if you want simple old-fashioned good baking, then please do. Conveniently situated at one end of the coffin track. Be warned - closed on Saturday as well as Sunday.

This is probably the friendliest cafe we have ever used.It is not pretentious and the cafe is popular with both locals and tourists. You will be greed like old friends. It is excellent for people seeking a lunch on a budget. The cakes are homebaked. The cafe is located inside a community village hall, so it is basic but pleasant. Well worth a visit.

Vid start/slut på den utmärkta vandringsleden "coffin" (14 km). Caféet var som ett församlingshem från 1970-talet, underbart charmigt och med bra soppor, sandwiches och kakor.

Came across this lovely cafe while driving the golden road, the two ladies were so friendly and chatty, told us a lot about the way of life on Harris which we found interesting, very accommodating with dietary needs, the gluten free cake was yummy and returned the next day for more before we left the island. I would recommend this lovely cafe without hesitation.

We were recommended to visit this community centre from a chance conversation some miles earlier. The lady who was in charge when we visited was very friendly, served excellent soup, tea and cakes, and also tried to teach us to dance to the caleidh music! This is an example of the community cafe at its best.

I had to write this as soon as I got home. This little community centre come cafe was first class and made me feel part of Island life. The 2 women who were working there were very friendly and chatted away about everyday topics and made amazing cakes and scones, as well as delicious coffee. This is a must for all who travel and love the Outer Hebrides and want a flavour of rural life and culture. Keep up the good work Jessie and friend. Alexander and Eileen, Glasgow.

Stunning view and friendly, efficient staff in a small family-run hotel. The quality of food was excellent, but fully grown humans may wish to order two main courses each, such was the rather miserly amount of actual food - scallops and monkfish respective.y - on our plates. Top marks for presentation and taste, but would have loved a little more.

We ate twice at Scarista House Restaurant during our recent trip to Harris. We have dined here before on previous visits over the last 20 years and this year it was better than ever. Beautifully prepared local food. First menu - Twice baked cheese soufflé, followed by Stornoway landed hake in a delicious sauce and some delicious vegetables. and then a chocolate roulade!. Second menu - goats cheese, courgette and cheese raviol with a nettle pesto (amazing!) followed by local hand dived scallops and the most delicious lemon tart with excellent pastry, lemon verbena ice cream and a strawberry and pink peppercorn coulis. Fabulous! Highly recommend the cooking here! An absolute delight!
