The really friendly and hospitable staff set the bright tone for this excellent meal. We’d both eaten a lot of meat and fish so opted for the pesto and tomato gnocchi dish. The portion size was larger than expected and the pesto sauce was so sumptuous and fresh. I loved the fresh tomatoes dotted in the dish as well as the chilli flakes. We had gin spritz and oh my goodness, I want to recreate them at home. I could’ve drank the dry gin with apricot and grapefruit spritzer all night. These were priced at £7.25 each which I thought was reasonable given the standard of the restaurant. The gnocchi was £18 so at the upper end of the places we’d eaten at on our trip, especially for a vegetarian dish. However, it was really well cooked, flavoursome and just what we needed. The food was delivered very quickly to our table and our waiter was very friendly. We didn’t have room for pudding but the list looked great. We had the same mains and 2 gin spritz’s each which came to a total of just over £70. I personally think this restaurant is worth the money but it’s not a cheap dinner date. I would go back.

We stayed in Cromarty for the last week in June and thoroughly enjoyed it. We dined here on our first night (a Saturday), which was very busy, but the service and food were fine. Our last night was a Friday and it was very quiet. We both liked the specials. Val chose scallops followed by chicken, while I stayed with the specials and had mussels followed by scallops. When my main course of scallops arrived (£18) they seemed to be the same helping size as Val's scallop starter (£12). I asked Val, if I was right. She agreed. The young waitress overheard and chipped in, 'No, you have two extra scallops she assured me. WHAT £6 for two extra scallops! The owner overheard and stepped in to 'sort' it. We did not expect this in Cromarty of all places. BE CAREFUL!

This cafe no longer allows dogs, apart from guide dogs. The TripAdvisor page needs to be updated to show this. Disappointing

Description on website is totally different to the experience we had. The manager was not in residence, there was no proper cook/chef so there was no food being served, not to speak I'll of Donnie who was left in charge as he was so helpful and friendly but the breakfast he cooked was inedible. Room not up to much shower had absolutely no pressure was just a trickle. We booked in for 4 days left after 2. If manager knew this was going to be how our stay was going to be he should have cancelled as we expected a bed and breakfast that served food this was just a pub with rooms. I would never recommend this place to anyone

We came ashore off the Jewel of the Seas and the captain onboard had said that we must try fish and chips in Shetlands and there were several good ones. So we selected here. There was a staff member female about 20 and she was rude to customers and a male in his late 50/60s who was maybe the owner and he screamed at people not to stand in the doorway and it was belting with rain. Coming from Australia we were shocked at how greasy it was as well as the demeaned of the staff who seemed overwhelmed - whereas they should have been happy and grateful for such a thriving business opportunity. My advise is sell and chase your dreams elsewhere.

Se presentó como un egipcio que ama Escocia. Estaba en la cima, constantemente en nuestra mesa teniendo demasiados comentarios a mi marido. Al principio fue bastante gracioso y luego comenzó a jurar en un acento de Glasgow. Mi marido pidió la hamburguesa Redcliffe Y el camarero contestó: «¡Que le den a Macdonalds si quieren una hamburguesa en Navidad! Nuestro Paté para empezar, era insípido y alborotado, la cena de pavo era horrible. Pavo procesado en una forma redonda perfecta sentado en una cama de puré y salsa. Uno de los nuestros no había terminado su cena cuando el camarero se llevó el plato sin preguntar si había terminado. Luego nos impulsó la factura justo después de que hubiéramos pedido otra botella de vino (que decidió que sería la mejor , sin mostrarnos la carta de vinos) . Mi marido se sentía cada vez más incómodo con el comportamiento y la atención del camarero. Trajo la factura a nuestra mesa cuando todavía estábamos bebiendo nuestro vino y mi esposo estaba bebiendo su café. No habíamos pedido la factura. Es Resultó que estaba terminando y quería su propina! Después de que pagamos, nunca lo volvimos a ver más que Para verlo salir del hotel en bicicleta. La factura era de casi 200 libras con dos botellas de vino tinto muy promedio , cuatro lagers, tres platos , comida muy pobre y un café . Y MUY incómodo , interrupción constante, del camarero . AVOID

Wat problemen gehad met reservatie. We hadden gebeld en ze zeiden dat het restaurant volledig volzet was, maar online bleek dat niet het geval. Ook als we toekwamen, hebben we het eerste halfuur helemaal alleen gezeten en toen we weggingen, was het restaurant maar half gevuld. Mindere start, maar het eten was verrukkelijk en van topkwaliteit. Klasse zaak. Het is prijzig en dat mag als je zo’n gastronomisch eten serveert, maar voor dat geld verwacht je wel dat de porties groter zijn. De voorgerechten en sommige hoofdgerechten waren echt klein.

Excellent visit. Last minute booking but treated very well. Highly recommended. Comfortable room with stunning views. Great breakfast. Owner lovely and very helpful.

We had booked 3 nights stay here but were a day late arriving as our ferry was cancelled, owing to fog. A 7 unit site with 2 showers with a toilet in the same room [En-suite]. One of the rooms was, imo, suitable for disabled guests. The facilities were clean with no extra charge for the showers. As the area was "remote" from the main site - hundred yards away and out of sight of the main site - access through the gate, into the shower/toilet block and chemical disposal point was by padlock code or Door Key Code. It worked and probably necessary as adjacent to the main road but slightly annoying. Good water supply and Grey water runoff easily accessed. The most expensive site we used in our holiday through the Outer Hebrides but West Harris Trust is a Community Charity so any profits presumably channelled back into Community Projects

There were four of us and we all rated The Merkister highly! Indeed it shared top place of our many dining places during a two week stay in Orkney. The welcome was warm, the service excellent, quiet and gentle and venue pretty amazing. We all ate different dishes and were all 'wowed' by what we selected. The Westray Seafood Parcel for starter was simply amazing and the seafood salad exquisite - as was the monkfish curry! Hopefully the Merkister will be at the top of the dining out list when we return to Orkney - twice - in 2025. Top marks all around.

Stayed here for one night before getting the ferry to Mull. Perfect to break up the travel, and a delicious meal for dinner. Helpful staff, comfortable large room, was worth the recommendation to head out to the lighthouse in the morning before the ferry, thank you.

Been here a few times. Lovely breaded haddock and great chips but why oh why have a king rib pre cooked in the display cabinet and then put it in the microwave and it's like mush especially when l am waiting for a breaded haddock. Really poor and really doesn't make sense Still three stars as everything else great and staff too. I only order things now that are cooked fresh and not on display but would definitely recommend on that basis

Great meal last Friday. Menu has plenty of varied choices and when the plates arrived the food was excellently presented. Really nice and friendly staff made it a lovely evening.
