We came here for dinner on a Saturday night. The service was friendly but the food was frankly poor. I ordered a sirloin steak "rare to medium rare" and it came seriously well done. It was accompanied with peas that were clearly poured out of a frozen peas bag and cooked without salt, butter or onions. My companions had fish that was clearly also frozen. Seriously disappointing that so little care was given to this meal.

Went to the Bothy bar to eat on the last night of our holiday in Strontian. Can’t fault the food, which was all very good. The staff were also friendly and attentive.Just weren’t keen on our table, which was shoved against a wall in the bar, meaning two of us had our back to the room and zero view ahead. Some of the language in the bar was also a little blue at times, which is not ideal when eating with children.

We very much appreciated being fitted in on a busy evening - advance bookings in this area are definitely recommended. Views from the restaurant area over the loch were stunning and all tables have a view. We enjoyed a tasty dinner.

Sat in the fairly busy restaurant rather than the ‘locals’ bar which turned out to be a good move (due to the view of the loch). Food was ok but nothing to write home about. Venison burger and Fish & Chips. Service was pretty slow and paid the bill at the bar (standard for this part of the world). Great view from the loch but probably not enough to make us return. A shame because this hotel/restaurant could be so much more….not the first time I’ve written this about a few of the hostelries in the Highlands.

Great food, fantastic location and friendly staff. The options in this area are predictably - due to location - limited, so it was great to find somewhere that had great food and service. Very reasonably priced too. ...and what a view!

Have frequented this establishment many times over the years and never had anything but an excellent experience on every single occasion. That in itself is a rarity these days. Bar staff excellent even in busy times, kitchen staff under pressure deliver ever time, happy friendly waiting staff, all of which are young locals which is so refreshing to see. What's not to love? If you expect The Ritz I'd suggest you try London not Strontian. If you expect good reasonably priced locally sourced food with very good service accompanied by outstanding views then the Bothy Bar and restaurant is certainly for you.

We ate at The Bothy Bar several times while staying at the Strontian Hotel, and all our meals were lovely. Hearty portions, friendly service and superb views, plus the atmosphere was lovely. The Bothy Bar is a separate entity to the hotel, although it's attached, so you then have breakfast within the hotel in a different breakfast room, and that was superb too. Our family group had a vegetarian, vegan, glucose intolerant eater and a hearty meat-eater, and all of us were happy, even our grandson who was super fussy - nothing was too much trouble and they looked after us all and made sure we were well fed. Great little spot.

The Bothy Bar offers amazing home cooked food. A great selection of beers and a superb array of single malts. The staff are the greatest asset. Debbie behind the bar works wonders serving food and running the bar. (Jody) excuse the spelling if its wrong. Head chef delivers the most amazing dishes. The Cullen Skink is to die for. Elaine brings a wonderful smile and great humour to the bar whilst serving the restaurant and various other staff. All are a credit. Under new management the hotel is run by Julie and will be a great addition to the existing team. Thank you all for your warm welcome and hospitality.

The Bothy Bar dining room is nicely decorated with paintings and photography, and has big windows overlooking Loch Sunart (although one was suffering badly from internal condensation). The service was fine. But neither of the dishes we chose were great - fatty venison stew with a cheap scone and a melted cheese slice on top, and poor quality burger meat in a bland supermarket bun. Quite disappointing for £16 each.

As a solo visitor looking for some nice Scottish food I was well accommodated here in the Strontian hotel. I got chatting with staff and locals who were great! I had haggis and goats cheese as a starter which was lovely but I’m not sure if it’s a combination I would of thought of! Main course was a lovely venison cobbler casserole. We stopped here on our way back from visiting Iona for the day, so had no reservation. The lovely lady got us a table, a shame the reserved tables at the windows were taken up by people who were not interested in the stunning view of Loch Sunart. Sadly the venison cobbler was not available, so instead we had haggis and goats cheese started (lovely) and garlic mushrooms, followed by the steak and ale pie and the paella which we can recommend both. Went with potatoes with the pie as the chips were frozen! Friendly service, if sometimes a little but inexperienced, but everyone has to learn.

The sink was in the room seperate from the shower and loo. The ensuite was miniscule no room to swing a cat restaurant was operated separately from the hotel. Not the first time i have experienced this arrangement. It's no problem as your restaurant bill goes on the hotel bill. Food is ok but to pub standard's. It was our 48th wedding anniversary and Michelle arranged the flowers very well. If you like hotels in the back of beyond this could suit your requirements.

Went to Strontian Hotel for a dinner on our short break staying in Strontian, Booked a table in the restaurant by phone and the chap was very friendly told us they were very busy so we went at a time that was suitable for them. On arrival we were told that we actually could not sit in the restaurant that overlooks Loch Sunart but would have to sit in the Bothy bar which would not have bothered us but a table sitting looking at a wall was not ideal. Ironically tables sat empty in the restaurant throughout the duration of our meal. Starters we had were very good but unfortunately the haddock and chips was very disappointing as the chips especially were like greasy crisps. We did mention this when our table was cleared. Our waitress said she would pass this on. However when we went to pay our bill no concession was offered. Having been in the hotel and catering industry for 30 years even if a customer is not right we always offer a concession. No customer should leave with a bad taste in their mouth.

After asking if they could fit in a party of six without a booking, we were left waiting for ten minutes while the waiter consulted the chef. There followed a further ten minutes to put two tables together and re-organise the place settings. When the food arrived it was more hearty pub grub than hotel restaurant. However, one can put up with a lot when enjoying such stunning views across Loch Sunart.

Hotel restaurants can be a bit hit and miss so we don't often eat in hotel restaurants. In Strontian you don't have a lot of choice. There's not much to complain about from a simple menu with most dishes home made. Service was a bit slow at first but after that hiccup was good. We went for simple starters and they were fine. Main courses ranged from OK for my burger to a very good home made pie.Overall it would be 3.5 stars as the food was fine and the price was fine. Service was fine overall but nothing made it say it was very good. If trip advisors went from average to good to very good to excellent then we would rate it good (7/10).

Lovely little place, we were made to feel very welcome despite no tables being free at the time. We had a drink in the bar and a table in the bar was made up for us. The staff were friendly and helpful. As a vegetarian, it can be hard to find a lot of choices in the game-rich highlands, but there were 3 possible options for me. I went for the veggie haggis and I'm pleased I did as it was delicious. We've booked in again for later this week and I might have this again instead of trying the other two options. I'm looking forward to our next meal as the restaurant has amazing views over the loch. Tip - book ahead. There aren't too many restaurants around and they're quite small so tend to get pretty busy.

This is my first TripAdvisor review but we felt it was worth taking the time to let others know what a lovely time we has!! The bar area was really lovely and welcoming with a good mix of locals and tourists! Always good to see locals, we think its a great way to tell if its a friendly place! We had been advised by our B&B to book and its a good job we did as the restaurant soon filled up and although no more tables were available we overheard the staff offering some late comers the option of the bar tables or a takeaway You don't get the amazing view form the bar so we were one up by booking for sure. I had the brie wedges to start and the better half had the ham hock, both were delicious, we then had a cajun chicken burger from the main menu and the guinea fowl from the specials board. We tried each others and both were really good and very good value for money. The desserts board looked tempting but we were both far too full! We finished our evening in the bar soaking up the very happy fun atmosphere, listening to the locals and joining in with their chat, sat in front of the wood stove, that although not lit had candles in it making it look cozy!! We will definitely visit again on our next trip to Scotland!

After a quick look at a very limited menu which constisted of only 5 starters and 5 main courses my girlfriend and I thought it was obviously an establishment that did a few dishes well. I couldn't have been more wrong. To start I had the tempura prawns with sweet chilli dip from the specials board. This consisted of 5 prawns that were straight as a die in shape which in my opinion came straight from Iceland or Brakes freezer and were in no way, shape or form "special". My girlfriend also chose a dish from the specials board which was the deep fried brie wedges. They were all identical in size and in both our opinion were freshly picked out the frozen section in a catalogue (Iceland or Brakes again maybe?). This came with a very tired iceberg and half a cherry tomato salad. For main course I had the steak and "caramelised onion" pie. The onions in this pie were not caramelised but silverskin and the pastry pre baked god knows how long ago. Only good thing was the succulent pieces of steak...lose the onions and use fresh pastry and it's a much better pie! My girlfriends main course was again from the specials board. Grilled chicken which was actually 3 mini fillets and no sign of the avocado and cherry salsa which was stated on the board. Instead there was a lot of chopped red onion thrown on top off the chicken and given a side portion of vegetables which had no finesse. There was no apology in the lack of salsa or even an explanation e.g they ran out. The kitchen should explain this to their front of house staff members so that they can explain to customers.Still feeling a bit peckish I decided to try the 'homemade' Baileys Creme brûlée. This was the biggest disappointment of the entire night, having previously worked as a chef for many years I have made thousands of Creme brûlées over the years and something about it just seemed off. It could only be described as bought in brûlée mix with a bit of baileys added (but not enough to taste) and then cooked off in the oven. If meals are definitely not homemade then I wouldn't recommend lying to your paying customers who keep the business going. Our overall opinion of the restaurant is that it's frozen pub grub at it's best...adequate but definitely will not be rushing back any time soon.Cannot fault the waitress who was very friendly and if I'm being honest is the only reason this review is not 1 star. This restaurant is only busy for 1 reason. Location.

Went here on the recommendation of the guest house we were staying in. Very popular with locals and tourists alike. Loved the steak and onion pie. Would definitely go back if I was in the area.

The view from this restaurant is fab. But the meals are not anything special and the prices are quite high.

We ate here as a group of 7 and everyone enjoyed the food. A lot of it is made on the premises and is of good quality. Highly recommended for a dinner above the bar meal standard.

Excellent food, good range of beer and wine and whiskey, lively mix of traveling guests and local folk. Comfortable chairs by the fire, great views of the loch.

Staff are very nice especially the chefs wife. Attention to detail makes for a good experience, like finger marks on cutlery, cruet sets, wilting flowers removed and general tidiness. Food was okay, typical pub grub, half a cherry tomato, a leaf of iceberg lettuce and six little bits of smoked salmon hardly warrants a salad so won't be ordering it again. The peas with my dish were like bullets, I could have taken someone's eye out with them of I had put them in a pea shooter! Puds are lovely and all in all just be selective what you choose.

The Bothy Bar is a really lovely place to eat. Apart from the stunning views of Loch Sunart, the food itself is excellent. The variety of starters and main dishes is great so, for example, cheese and fish do not rule the menu; there really is something to suit every taste. The chef has a real love of food and cares about bringing out the best flavours. They are happy to accommodate dietary needs.,The staff are friendly and approachable which adds to the ambience of the evening. There is no rush to leave, but it is best to book before you go. I would highly recommend a visit here. In terms of cost; it's a very reasonable price for a lovely evening out.

Went to the Bothy bar in the hotel.Very very welcoming. A small menu which I feel is sometimes better as it was not over fussy. What is great is that the also offer smaller portions. We had the carmalised onion steak pie which was to die for. The meat melted in the mouth and was delicious. I highly recommend it. Others in the bar also were more than happy with their choices from the menuHowever, the staff there were what made it. Helpful, chatty funny and not overbearing. They were more than happy to accomodate needs.Would we go back? Of course we would!!!!Good food. Brilliant staff. Stunning locationCan't guarentee the weather. But the place makes up for this

We had dinner twice. The first night I had potato soup and fish and chips, very, very good. The second night I chose the lasagna which was just okay (this is Scotland, after all). The staff were very good, especially serving a large group. The wine selection was good, too. Great place to eat!

Het eten was goed, er werden veel verse kruiden gebruikt. Het restaurant biedt uitzicht op één van de vele lochs in Schotland.

My wife and I were staying in Strontian on holiday and ate in the hotel on 2 occasions. The food overall was excellent and plentiful and the service was excellent. Well worth a visit if you are in the area. Only negative was having a drink in the bar area and some of the locals language was a bit sour so decided not to hang around for more drinks

We ate here on our first night in Strontian. It was very much things with chips or very bland looking boiled potatoes. Hubby had a steak and ale pie which came with its pie crust stuck on top in a very pale colour. Didn't seem to be home made and looked unappetising.Great views from the dining room tho and the bar looked full of locals.

After poor experiences in Oban and Fort William this place restored our faith in a Scottish breakfast and hospitality. Great service, even better breakfast made with quality ingredients.

The Fish and Chip Shop is in our experience is without a doubt the BEST IN CAITHNESS AND SUTHERLAND! The fish was white and flakes. fried in beautiful crispy batter and the chips were perfect. We have experienced other Chip Shops in Wick,Thurso and Helmsdale, plus Mobile Chip Vans in Lybsterand Dunbeath and this has been the best so far too. We travelled around 30 miles to eat here and would do so again. THANK YOU.
